Star Trek: The Infinite Domain

Space...Human beings once looked to the stars with ignorant gazes. Often wondering what our place in this vast expanse was. Often questioning, are we alone? For thousands of years we existed underneath that dark blanket, unknowing of what lay beyond. Religion said God could be found amoungst the stars, putting to rest our questions as to creation and the Universe. There was once a time where people like Copernicus and Galileo were pursecuted by the religious establishment, stating their theories to be nothing more than blasphemy. Centuries later we took those uncertain baby steps into the stars. Humanity held its' breath and took that world changing plunge into the abyss. Since then, we haven't looked back.

Space brought our world together. Many answers were found out there, but more questions arose. We pushed the envelope, our thirst for knowledge only multiplied. How far can we go? What can we find out there? Who can we find?

All those questions were laid to rest when they made contact with us. They were an enlightened race of sentient beings, far more advanced than us. We were indeed masters of our Earthly domain but in the greater scheme, we were mere children, awakwardly speaking for the first time. Withe their help, we reached out to others, finally joining the Galactic Brotherhood of advanced planets. Our world came together like never before in its' history, effectively ending the notion of nation states and a united world state emerged.

Now, we look to the stars from distant planets and galaxies. We are now part of an intergalactic Federation of Planets that strive to create peace amoungst the stars. Of course, the notion of fear and with it, the need to destroy the source is not just a Human facility. With this new found enlightenment, we strive to make the Universe a better place. Now, we look with great ambition and hope once again, to boldly go where no man has gone before...

OOC: I've never been much of a Star Trek fan. I enjoy some of the movies and am looking forward to the upcoming movie. Of course, I like the notion of Star Trek. So, here I am feeling out the angles and seeing how this will work out.

The Plot: The basic plot revolves around the crew of the USS Valiant, the sister ship of the USS Enterprise. The main story arc is the discovery of the scientific research vessel, Galileo, having been attacked by a mysterious adversary. Evidence points to Klingon intervention and a certain item of extreme importance is stolen. Tensions rise within the Federation as fingers are pointed as the team aboard the vessel consisted of multiple races. They go on the search for the missing scientists and uncover a plot with galactic implications that could not only destroy the fledgling young Federation, but Earth as well.

I suppose, but this is an illogical world, so why should we?

Well, sometimes too many cooks spoil the broth :p
Kulikovia
13-11-2008, 17:42
True true, there's no reason why the three of us can't forge ahead. We'll just have to have more characters apiece and I'll control more npc's. This is no daunting task at all.
Alversia
13-11-2008, 19:03
We can't bring our own races into this can we?

I don't see why not, that will help ward off the mods.

I rather like the Vulcans being the first alien race to make contact with humans, though. I love the end of Star Trek: First Contact -- one of my favourite movie scenes ever!

Sorry, I've been rather busy lately, the IC thread will be up later today. Alverisa, I like your idea, the Valiant can discover that race, we'll see what happens.

Can I be an admiral?:)

If not, I'll go for second officer or a civilian science advisor. I'll have a full character description up later today.
Kulikovia
16-11-2008, 12:52
You can have more than one character
The Romulan Republic
16-11-2008, 12:56
Well, I'd rather stick to just one for now. I'll take second officer on the Valiant, or if someone else wants it, a civilian observer/advisor like Tom Paris was in Voyager's pilot.

Must...resist...urge...to play...Romulans.:)
Kulikovia
16-11-2008, 13:02
Good luck with that

Sorry, just saw the op has reserved the Valient's xo, so I'll be playing as a civilian observer.

Name: Dr. Thomas Alexander

Age: 34

Appearance: 6 foot 3 inches, light, untidy brown hair, average appearance, in average physical shape. Blue eyes.

Resume: Graduated from Oxford with an MD Vulcan politics and a degree in interstellar law. Did a PHD exchange with the Vulcan Leadership Accademy, graduating with a degree in First Contact situations. Served for three years as an aid to Councilor T'var on the Vulcan High Council, and spent the last year teaching a course on First Contact situations at Star Fleet Academy. Just assigned as a civilian advisor to the Valiant's mission.

Personality: fairly studious and profesional, has a slight tendency towards insubordination. Little personal life. Personal interests include literature, Vulcan and Earth philosophy, and target practice.

Bio: born on a lunar colony, he grew up in the equivalent of the suburban fringes. His father was a clerk, his mother a medic. He developed an early interest in politics and law, and his star rose rapidly until his extended stay on Vulcan. Now, many of the establishment on Earth view him as too in-line with Vulcan interests, and have been impeading his advancement on the road to an eventual seat on the Federation Council. Dissatisfied with teaching, he quickly accepted his assignment to the Valiant, though he does not know who got him the assignment, nor weather they intended it as a chance to prove himself anew, or a chance to get him out of the way.
