Dear Players of NationStates,

I have only told this to one person alreay but now I shall let it be known to you all: I am quiting NS.

This may come as a surprise to many (and probably a blessing to a few), I know it was to Waldenburg when I told him on MSN. I just feel that as I got older in this game, the community became less welcoming and less acceptifying. By now I've seen all that I want to see on NS and I believe it is time to call it a quits.

It has been too many a times that I have sat idly by as the elitist nations of NS have pushed me around and let my joy die and turn into sorrow so that they can look better to their buddies. It has been too many a times that I have recieved messages in my telegrams box, in my email inbox, and on MSN that have threatened me, harassed me and insulted my intelligence in many ways. I am much more intelligent of a man than is known to the players of the game and that is widely thought, and it has been neglected and abused by nations who feel that there is no help for the new players and ones who just aren't as smart they.

There is a point were a person can longer take the harassment and abuse handed to them and I know I have taken the amount that I would not wish upon my worst enemy. No one deserves to insulted and harassed constantly because of mistakes made earlier. Do you not think I notice your snide comments and remarks about me? Well I refuse to be surrounded by such idiocy and hypocracy. Perhaps the elitist air of this game shall pass and I may come back, but until such a day I will longer waste my time to be harassed and insulted by those who think they're better than me simply because of a date when I joined.

You may insult my intelligence, my gender, my state of mind, my mental attitude, and how I RP. You may call me a faggot, a failure, a loser, a dumbass, a retard, a prole, or what ever else rolls off of your tongue. I know I have been called many of these and it is simply time for this to stop. I know the players that make this comments won't stop saying them so it seems I should just stop playing.

It may seem as if I am giving up, as if I am weak because I can't take the massive volleys of insults handed to me, but that is untrue I am giving up on NS and how it's players can't handle being nice to eachother. I must say, no matter how many times you can tell me to shut up and no matter how many times you can curse and scream at me, I will not get rid of the last bit of decency inside me and lose the last remnant of fun from this game.

I will be leaving for however long it takes the rest of NS to get the decency to respect eachother's personalities and their amount, or lack there of, of intelligence. I may be gone for a day, perhaps for a week, maybe a year. How ever long it takes the rest of NS to catch up with the rest of the decent part of the world is how long I will be away. With the attitude that escapes this place it seems it will be much longer than I would hope.

I bid all of you a good day, and a good night. Some of you have treated me with respect and may have been one of the few reasons I hadn't done this months ago. Others of you I may not have known long or at all but have learned enough about you to develope a friendly aspect towards eachother.

Perhaps I shall see you again on this game, perhaps you may have come to the same decision as I. However, in ever sense of the saying, I truly don't care.

Waldenburg 2 will be given the password to Greston and will using it for however long he pleases, just saying this as a heads up so you won't start flaming him thinking it's me. But I must disgress so good bye friends, good bye allies, and good by NS as a whole. Perhaps you will prosper without my presence.

Greston, I cannot explain how angry this makes me to hear about how that crap goes around. I've heard plenty of crap, and I'd hate to see a good, respectable member of the NS community leave because of this.

I'd ask that you stay around. Block them, and I'm sure if they create new emails or IM's to bug you, the favor would be returned by any respectable NSer that happens to get their hands on those emails or s/n's. Any TG's should be turned over to the mods, and let them deal with the no-life idiots who feel they have to do this **** to other members of the NS community to make themselves look "cooler" to other no-life NS'ers who probably (amends statement).

And I'd call for NS mods to ban for life anyone who is found guilty of this crap that goes on. I don't care if it's the biggest names or someone most of us have ever heard of, if they do this, and proof can be brought forward, they should be banned for life. Period.

They can take their **** elsewhere. Those no-lifers have no place on NationStates, period. It is those people that make NS less fun, ruin an otherwise great game, and drive off anyone they don't like. I've been the target of some people on Draftroom, and I've put up with it, all but ignoring them - and having enjoyed my success pissing some people off to no end.

But its unfortunate that other people receive far worse treatment than I ever got. And those people who are at fault, those who are guilty of doing such actions, should go (amends statement) and should never be allowed back on NS or its forums.

Greston should stay. And any of you have a problem with me, my defense of him, or anything I say... deal with it, deal with me, or shove it. Got it? Good.

On a side note, reading over what he said simply pissed me off. Something needs to be down about the uptight and elitish nature and atmopshere of this game. It has effected each and every one of us in at least one way, and I feel that action needs to be taken. As ViZion said above, perhaps chain mailing nations who send threats would work, although I doubt they could even read them over their huge egos. Something needs to be done, and I suggest we start on this thread by offering up ideas.

I second this. It's sad to see a good RP'er go... it's sad to see that this happens, and it's happened to me sometimes, and I've admittedly jeered at a person (Roef) once and got a warning (which I deserved). There's not much more I can say.

They (the little annoying dicks know who they are) can say whatever they want, but it's not going to matter - you can first ignore them and have a mod delete their posts, and if they're still around after you ask them to leave you can bring in a mod to intervene. Problem is, from what I understand, it's one of the times (and, unfortunately, this is FAR from the first I've heard of such a thing here on NS happening) when it transcends NS and into IM's, emails, myspace/facebook, things like that. And that is where you go from questioning the line to outright crossing the line, no questions asked. Pathetic life people must have to do that. Well, I wouldn't even say pathetic life since its clear they don't even HAVE a life.

Honestly, I don't know the whole story. From what Greston has told me over the last few weeks, Gat appears to be one of the people he has a problem with. Then again, I can't ever remember Greston and Gataway not fighting about something or other...

EDIT: Alright, so that's going to be a yes, actually. I think Gat may have reported Greston for flaming or some such nonsense, but again, I don't really know the whole story.

Its a shame that anyone would let the musing of a few insecure individuals get to them that much. Although maybe its a good thing for him to be gone. He can explore the world outside of NS. It is always best to figure out who you are, because then no one can touch you.

I only pray that the pain that I read in his farewell speech was not in other aspects of his life.

Wow I had no idea this actually went on in Nation States!? I've been a member since January and I had a nation in early 2007 and I never experienced any harrasement? Whats wrong with some people!?

The only negative comments I've ever seen were on new nations Rp's when older nations take advantage and abuse them. Its quite sad how some people actually sent abusive emails to Greston!?

I've always been friendly as far as I know and I plan to always be friendly and not abusive and I totally support a ban on members who would do such a thing to other members

I can't say I know Greston since I just now came back myself.

Having said that, the kind of bullshit that's causing Greston to leave the game is EXACTLY the same sort of bullshit that caused me to leave the game for nearly a year.

There came a point when the fun I had playing this game was not worth the increased blood pressure from certain people who pissed me off OOCly, and most of you know who you are.

Why don't Gat and Greston just ignore eachother then. Block TG's block eachother on MSN/AIM whatever instant messaging program you use and there problem solved too easy.

Gataway has capitulated oocily to me.

Gataway's territory is now controlled by the Unkerlantian Imperium and a Viceroy will be placed as the new head of state over the Imperial Republic of Gataway. I will now be controlling every aspect of his government and all other IC actions.

For the time being all of Gataway's alliances will remain as they are unless the governing body of those alliances states otherwise in the form of a TG to me.

It is my hope that this will be satisfactory to all members of the NS II roleplaying community.

It always is. Regardless, I've always known Greston to have a fairly thick skin--this came as a surprise to me.

Whenever I've talked to Gat (TGs), he's had nothing but bad things to say about Greston, and he makes it very clear that he dislikes him. Greston, on the other hand, has only mentioned Gat to me two or three times, and he always just said, "we have OOC differences." Quite obviously I don't know the whole story though.

It is sad that things like this happen. I know some people just don't get along but this is just ridiculous. Forcing someone of a very entertaining and mostly friendly game is pathetic. Whoever you are you should be ashamed at yourselves. I am disappointed and I had no idea that things got this bad on NS.....

The saddest thing is that you will always find this sort of people all over NationStates and beyond (Youtube, MySpace, etc) but it is always pleasurable to discover people like the fine posters here in this thread who would never do such things towards their fellow players.

There is another solution dude, when you start feeling low because of how II is going, visit general for a bit.

I can understand though how you would be upset... I just tend to use the ignore feature on people who are going to get nasty out of character with me.

I agree with AMF. I dont have any contact information for Greston so I cant help in any recovery efforts. Actions like these where very commonplace back in '03, though not acceptable then and certainly not now. It is a shame that people have come to N.S. looking to prove some sort of superiority over others and it has created a bad image for us good players who are outrage by such acts of calis and malicious people.

Greston if by any chance you are looking at this again... come back and those here who are writting to you can help. Dont leave just becasue a few bad apples have started at you.

I have done much thinking since I made this post. In between the time I posted and now I've been contacted by numerous people asking for me to come back, even people I didn't know before started messaging me to come. It seems more people than I half expected actually cared and I am truly sure that I can't leave when there are so many behind me. I promise I am coming back, I just simply need a break from NS. I'll come in and post every once and a while but I definitely won't be on half as much as I used to. Thank you all of you, I am really surprised some of you cared.

I am simply speechless as to how many of you came and replied and expressed your concerns. I feel as long as there is enough people like you guys on NS, I can stay.
