Candidate: Karou Kamiah
Age: 30
Religion: Christao
Previous Position: Foreign Minister Under Incumbent Prime Minister Elenore Romney.

Position on Issues:

Gay Marriage - Supports the current laws of Gay Marriage in Kanami (currently legal) wants to allow schools for an opt out program about the teaching of the issue. Kids may be allowed to leave when it comes up.

Defense - Allocate more funding to the defending the nation and her allies. Including opening more military installations abroad and remote communication outposts.

Economy - Reduce some of the restrictions on business, make the Romney tax cuts for businesses permanent. Cut the income tax for all citizens by 20% 5% by the wealthiest few.

Reduce tariffs on foreign imports and encourage more businesses from abroad to open.

Stevid - Hopes to continue the blooming peaceful relations between Kanami and Stevid (after a long time of fighting) and hopes to begin economic trading.

AHSCA - Recognizes the former Kanami protected state as fully independent and autonomous. Want's to begin trade and renew old relations that fell after the war. Want's Stevid (former temporary occupier) to unconditionally recognize AHSCA's right to exist as a nation state.

The Ryou Black Islands - Want's to remain friendly but want's to incite more discipline into the nation. Will break all relations and brand Ryou as a terrorist nation if it continues down the path of constant war mongering.

World Assembly - Remain out of the World Assembly (Kanami was once a member of the former United Nation)

Emergency Preparedness - Relives the Government should set up an Emergency fund reserve in it's fellow allies and within. Includes money, supplies, and instructions for Government Order.

Want's all schools and churches and homes to have an emergency kit for individuals and families.

Stem Cell Research - Supports the current Government restrictions and methods of practice, on the issue. (Partly legal)

#2

Democratic Party

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g310/AShadow17/Nation%20States/Candidate.jpg

Name: Anson Zurwa
Age: 35
Religion: Roman-Catholic
Previous Position: Mayor of Carmina Gadalica City (capital)

Position on the Issues:

Gay Marriage - Want's to make amendments to the current law to reduce potential discrimination. Make adoption easier for the couples and have the Supreme Court overturn previous modifications to the adoption law set under The Romney Administration.

Defense - Focus on internal defense for the nation from external attacks by terrorism or military. Set funds on a "as needed" basis determined by his cabinet and the Senators. Supports external military establishments sparingly.

Economy - Begin advancing more national industries for further export.
Abolish Income Tax entirely but establish a Sales Tax and remain with the business tax for companies making a Net income of over $250,000 or more. Plenty of opportunities for tax rebates for businesses and people.

Invite more foreign business to open up in Kanami.

Stevid - Supports continued relations with Stevid much like Kamiah's positions. Want's Stevid to denounce the Knights Templar organization and outlaw it and bring the group to trial for crimes committed during the South Seas War. Hopes they will engage in a strong discussion regarding these matters.

AHSCA - Also recognizes AHSCA's right to exist as a Nationstate and want's Kanami, Stevid and AHSCA to discuss this in full.

The Ryou Black Islands - The Ryou must begin aggressive social and poltical changes in the country, including reducing the military, reducing military spending, allowing free, open and safe elections or Kanami will terminate relations with them.

World Assembly - Remain out and not to become intangled in any other international alliances (spare Kanami's allies)

Emergency Preparedness - Supports his opponents ideas

Stem Cell Research - Wants to ease restrictions on this issue, but certainly wants to keep it under government watch to prevent the abuse of the technology.

The Allied Congress of New Kereptica along with President Joseph Keipir officialy endorse Karou Kamiah, especially in her stance on how to deal with Ryou. We feel that it is not business of one country to dictate how another should be run.

The United Island States of AHSCA won't endorse any paticular candidate but still wishes well for Kanami and it's people to make the choices they feel best. We still hope for better relations after our rocky fall out.

Diplomatic Communication

Latoia wishes to endorse Karou Kamiah, as we believe she would be a good leader, from what we can see here regarding her stated policies.

Further, if she is elected, we might be interested in more formal relations with Kanami, mainly trade and a diplomatic partnership.

The Empire of Mephras would like to formally endorse Anson Zurwa for the position. However it should be noted that we find both candidates to have moderate and well reasoned positions on the important issues, and we believe that either one would be a successful leader of the good people of Kanami.

As the former Princess of Aqua Anu, Kanami I wish you the best, whatever happens to my former country. Both candidates are meritable, I know Ms. Kamiah well and I've stood by her many times, but I feel Mr. Zurwa is the best choice. Regardless, best wishes.

Unfortunatley we cannot find for either candidate, we simply don't desire either of them. But it's the choice of Kanami's people, not ours.

Endorsement by President Thomason

I must say, I like Karou Kamiah's platform a good deal more than Anson Zurwa in all. I have been granted authority by Congress to appoint a Vice-President. If she were a Latoian, she might have been offered the post, or at least a place in my cabinet. As things are, I sincerely hope she wins this election. If she does not, then I trust the people of Kanami will have the good sense to find some post where she can be of use.

OOC:

Well, technically she could be given the job, with Congressional approval, but the thing is she would not have a place in the Order of Succession. So, if anything happened to Thomason, she would be kept on in her post as VP, not bumped up to the Presidency, which would be given to the Speaker of the House.

Besides which, she wouldn't want it anyway, and why should she? She's from Kanami, and she obviously wants to lead Kanami.

Kanami, our gracious friend and ally, as always we look forward to your elections, and we look forward to who will be our next friend in the Prime Minister's chair.

My endorsement officially goes to Ms. Kamiah, she's a woman I've known since Ms. Romney took office, and she's a woman I deeply admire. But I do give my compliments to Mr. Zurwa, he too seems to be a fine candidate.

Best wishes always,

Your Grace,

Thank you so kindly for your letter of encouragment and endorsement of my capaign. In my time in office with Elenore, you have always stood by our side even at risk to your relation with Stevid. As Kanami and Stevid prepare to embark on a new period of friendship, I'm glad to say we can end the tug-a-war you have been feeling since the Hanover War began.

Even if I don't win, I hope that I can take up your offer to stay with you in Kurona for a week.

Yours truly,
Kaoru.

Your Grace,

While you endoresed my oponent Ms. Kamiah I do wish to write to you, as there is the potential I could be the next Prime Minister, thus your next Partner in the world.

Kurona has always been a country i've long admired, adhearing to it's moral principles and never faltering, and you, Lady Weaver have been a rock when we have both faced challanges. If I am elected, I look very forward to be able to work along side you.

My best wishes to you and your family,
Anton Zurwa

While this government never officially backs another foreign elction candidate during election time, we will unvail that we lean closer to your way of political thinking than your opponent. Although we differ on some key issues, namely AHSCA- a state that we still do not officially recognise and no closer to coming to an agreement dispite a meeting with their ambassador to Stevid once every two weeks.

However our country shares many things in common with your political principles including more prosporus relations with each other and our policies on the Ryouese government (Though ours are less hardline than your own). If you were to be elected than our countries would become even greater friends, but the same would go for your opponent too. Kanami is a good friend to Stevid despite past relations and the Empire wishes it to remain that way.

Thank you.

Official Reply,

thank you for your letter, Stevid. In my time you have certainly have been very testing of my Foreign Diplomacy skills, and I am very pleased once again we can come back to terms with each other, end our destructive bickering. I encourage you all to watch the up and coming debate to get a sense of both our plans.

Town Hall Debate!

(ooc: I don't know if any of you are planning on giving me questions or not either way I'm going to do this simply by the issues.)

"Good evening, I'm Roger Corman, and I'll be your moderator this evening. This is the final debate. On the right we have Foreign Minister Karou Kamiah, and on the left we have Mayor Anton Zurwa. Each candidate will have 3:00 minutes to answer the questions, and they will be cut off if they go over. They also will have the ability to rebuttal their opponent two times.

Welcome you two, let's have a good clean debate. Let's start off with the issue of Gay Marriage, there are many that want to see the old ruling overturned to keep marriage between a man and a woman, both of you support the current law regarding, assuming that the Supreme court were to overturn the Gay Marriage Act of 1988, what would you do to protect the rights of gay and lesbian couples?"

Kamiah: "I'm glad this has been brought up, assuming what happens, happens, as Prime Minister, I would have Parliament first return to make an Amendment to restore the right of Marriage, if that were to fail, then I would return to have a bill drafted ensuring that the same-sex couples can still have the same rights, that is the same rights given to married couples. Right to visitation in hospitals, right of adoption and everything else."

Corman: "Mayor Zurwa?"

Zurwa: "Well if that were true, I would simply petition to disbar the judges and select new ones. The Supreme Court ruled back in 1988 that Gay and Lesbian couples still have the same rights as heterosexual couples. We don't need a kangaroo court."

Kamiah: "I disagree to the extent that we simply need to disbar the judges, it that is Mr. Zurwa's plans, our Court will be in a constant state of Chaos, it will be a mess, our senators will be spending more time recommending new judges instead of legislating, it's something we don't need. The purpose of Disbaring judges is there to prevent corruption, and conflicts of interest. We need diverse judges but we don't need to cycle them every time we disagree on an issue."

Corman: "Rebuttal?"

Zurwa: "Now Minister Kamiah, I would not even begin to dream of removing the Supreme Court every time I disagree with them, I certainly only would use the power of disbarment sparingly, but I'd rather not have our judges continue questioning decades old decisions, when it's not needed."

Corman: "Moving on to the next topic, let's talk defense, after the bombing on Carmina, what are your plans to better prepare Kanami against areial strikes?"

Kamiah: "My planes would include a stronger and more comprehensive air defense grid. Currently our budget and defense systems allow us to monitor about 3% of Kanami Airspace, begging your pardon, but it's a 3% is ridiculous, it's a big ass sky, we need to be able to see much more than 3%. This is where my remote viewing posts come into play and remote stationed missiles on uncharted unoccupied islands in our vicinity."

Zurwa: "I agree, we need to vastly expand our aerial defense, which is why I purpose Star Wars..." [laughter] "Only kidding of course. My plan includes remote posted missiles, quicker response combat fighters, and I want to see new cluster based technology to take down not just one at a time but several. The blue prints are on the desk of our Defense Department, now we need to invest in them. "

Corman: "Next topic of the Economy what will you do to reduce spending by Parliament."

Kamiah: "First and foremost, ear marks, needless spending projects cost us billions a day. I will take my line item veto pen and get rid of every spending project that isn't important to our country.

Zurwa: "While Ms. Kamiah has a point, ear-marks are 20% of the problem, we need to reduce spending by cutting back on other matters. My task will be to prioritize first, any program that isn't producing I will cut or allow private industry take over. Our space program is something I truly am grateful for, we've all had our lives changed by it, but it is a program that can be easily footed by a private industry. "

[after commercial break]

Corman: "Now one of the two big subjects, Stevid and AHSCA. The nature of these will expand our candidates time. First we come to are the matters of the United Island States of AHSCA, our former protectorate state, obviously there was a great deal of fall out from the result of the war, now what are your plans to mending the relations with them and keeping them reassured that Kanami recognizes their independence and is not out to return them to our protection? "

Kamiah: "Well AHSCA, is something I consider one of my biggest failures. I know Prime Minister Romney feels the same. We got carried away, we dropped the ball, and we lost their trust, as such we kept silent with each other for a while. Now I think both of us are ready to start anew. AHSCA is it's own independent nation, it doesn't need us. We will begin with a simple trade agreement and culture exchange as well as the simple humanitarian system.

Zurwa: "Truly AHSCA is a state that's more than earned our respect. Much like Ms. Kamiah, I want to begin more friendly relations with the state, I feel Lady Shino bears no hard feelings for us letting her down on our agreement to protect the islands. Now they have embassies, they have relations in the world, they are stronger."

Corman: "Both of you have stated you will make attempts to get Stevid to recognize AHSCA, how will you go about this as Prime Minister?"

Kamiah: "I will sit down with David Conroy, the Prime Minister and we will go over all the reasons together, as to why Stevid must recognize AHSCA. I have gained a lot more respect for Mr. Conroy since Kanami and Stevid made peace with each other and I know he can be stubborn, but I still know he's a reasonable man. I also want to see an expansion of the Treaty or a new non-aggression pact between them, I want to see Stevid open an office at the Embassy Island Complex just as AHSCA opened an embassy in Stevid, I want to see more meetings between all our ambassadors."

Zurwa: "Ms. Kamiah certainly has some great goals, ones I can agree with and maybe expand upon. The first thing Stevid needs to do, is stop listing AHSCA as 'Unfriendly' on their nation's embassy page, it's my belief that it has caused sever fallout and has maybe deterred nations from opening embassies with AHSCA. That simply has to go, it's something I will demand of change, before anything else. There is no rhyme or reason as to why they would be displayed as unfriendly, that brand should only be used for nations that have been threatening to the peace and stability of Stevid's security, or world security, something AHSCA does not do. I want a dialog between the three of us, even it if takes time I want Stevid and AHSCA to come to terms. It's going to be hard at first, but we can do it."

[commercial break]

Corman: "Now let's talk about Stevid, how will we continue maintaing peace with our ex-enemy?"

Kamiah: "Stevid want's peace just as much as we do. Yes the AHSCA issue will put a bit of a strain but we need to do it. As Prime Minister, I will make sure we can continue keeping our peace, by working to keep our cultures open. I've always felt culture can be a great peace giver, and the more we learn of each other, the better friends we'll become. "

Zurwa: "Like Ms. Kamiah I think Stevid and Kanami can continue to build peace, I feel our fighting has gone on long enough, Romney felt it too when she reached out to Stevid even way back before the Second War between us began, after much trial and tribulation we've reached the point where we can unite around our friends, especially Kurona, Ms. Kamiah can testify to the impact of the Kuronan princess our bickering had and she wrote an amazing book about it and now is the time we don't have to keep causing her concern that she'll have to chose between us."

"Unfortunatley our time has ran out (really I'm too tired and lazy to keep the debate going :P) we thank you for your time, remember to vote."
