Parilisa invades Alversia (CLOSED 18th Century)

It was unlike King Rudolf to call for a meeting of all his generals, and so the military leaders gathered in the King’s chamber were a little confused by the sudden event. They all looked impeccable in their smart black uniforms, though they made them quite uncomfortable in the stifling heat of the palace.

The King entered gracefully, his noble head held high and is wig shockingly white. The soldiers all stood to attention as he sat down upon the royal throne. A distinguished gesture from his hand told the men to sit also. Silence reigned for a moment before the King spoke; his words seemed rehearsed and planned.

“Gentlemen, this is an age of sea. The other nations of Europe all maintain powerful fleets, and they are becoming increasingly daring with them. Explorers from around the world are filling in the blank spaces on ancient maps, discovering continents which we have never seen before. And they use ships in war also, they load them full of guns and shatter into each other’s well drilled lines in the cacophony of war. But what abut Parilisa?”

He turned on the Chief Admiral.

“How many ships do I have, Admiral?”

“Around 23, Majesty.” The short man whispered in shame.

“23!” the King exclaimed, sounding disappointed yet triumphant. He liked being right, he liked proving a point. “23 bastard ships, that’s the lot. Well, I shall have change. I want control of the entire Western sea. I want to be ruler of the waves. I want Parilisa’s navy to be the greatest in the world!”

“But how?” he continued. “How to I control the sea? By controlling the land. I know that I can monitor and control the ocean by taking the land through which it squeezes at its thinnest point. If I hold the Alveran Peninsula I hold the Baltic to ransom.”

He pulled a map from his pocket and spread it out on a table in the middle of the room. It showed the Alveran Peninsula and the Baltic.

“We strike hard and we strike fast. We can bring them to their knees if we hit them without giving them time to know what’s going on. I don’t want their entire pox ridden nation, I want that bit! And we can have it!”

Applause rippled through the room and men threw their hats into the air with joy. “God save the King!” they chanted. “God damn Alvera!”

The fleets with troops were leaving within an hour, speeding west with the strong winds. The entire Parilisan navy had been committed; though it was weak other ships, merchant ships and traders, were forced to hand themselves over to transport the men. Many of the ships had had their cannon removed to make room for soldiers.

They would land on the eastern edge of the peninsula and drive themselves like a rot to it’s very heart. When the Alverans had received suitable casualties they would be more than willing to surrender their small plot of land to the King.

25,000 Infantry were headed for the enemy shores, as well as small detachments of cavalry. Most of the merchants of the port of Exengrad where without ships this evening, and the fleet looked like a motley gang of pirates with their eclectic naval tastes.

They came ashore and gathered on the beach. It would take a few hours to get all the men to the shore, especially the horses for the cavalry. Well drilled and disciplined, they would look a frightening sight to any onlookers, though they all prayed there were none.

It did not take long for the news of the Parilisan preparations to reach the Duchy of Alvera, a country whose wealth was bolstered by her trade fleets which spread across Europe. However, this also permitted the Alverans to contain quite a powerful fleet.

Duke Wilhelm was old, not painfully old, but he was still old. He was immensely proud of his Dukedom, proud of what he had done with it. He now considered it to be one of the finest in Europe, with plentiful trade and an effective Army and Navy. It was the Navy that would play a key part in this early stage. It seemed that the Kingdom of Parilisa was determined to sieze his peninsule. He would throw them back with everything he had,
"Get my Generals," he ordered, watching as his aide ran from the palace.

Baltic Sea

The first vessels to happen upon the invading fleets were the Frigates Olaf and Count Drass. They were not ships of the line, nor battleships, but merely scouts for the main fleet. The Alveran fleet was powerful but it had too much coast to cover and so would need some help with regards to the location of the enemy, hence the presence of the two ships.

They did what they could. They came as close as they dared, turned a broadside and let loose with their one deck of 64 pounders, hoping to inflict some small damage on the rigging of the invasion fleet or throw it into confusion for a little while. The ships then darted out of range from the bigger, slower and less manouverable escorts. The first shots of the war had been fired.

The king and his parlament looked over the report. The Calendrandians had always wanted to take the Baltic sea for themselves, but They could nnever get past the narrow stait to enter it. With the Parilisans attacking, Alveran attention would be elseware, giving them a perfect opportunity to strike. Parilisa had almost no navy. with calendrandian help they could win, leaving the baltic open for attack.

Official Message to Parilisa:

We would like to offer an alliance to help you destroy your enemy and take your rightful place as ruler of the Baltic. If you take control of the stait, we will be able to send ships and men and whatever else you require to aid you in this endeavor.

3 days later, this message lay in front of the king of Parilisa.

The shots from the Alveran scouts had damaged one of the main ships quite badly, tearing it's sail almost in two. Carpenters rushed to fix the damage and it was sewn up as the men lined up on the beach. The Adniral was panicking as he stood beside the General commanding the invasion.

"They know our whereabouts now, they could have a fleet here within a day." he said.

"Calm down my friend, we'll be halfway into the Peninsula by then. No ammount of warning can save their sorry hides." replied Duke von Hausplatz. The Admiral sighed and examined the horizon with his telescope.

The dispatch of the army was nearly complete, and von Hausplatz jumped into a boat to head for the shore.

Official Message to Calendrandia
If, my good sir, you could help us take the Peninsula, I will gauruntee you and your fleets free entry into the Baltic Sea. May we stand together as long lasting allies.

Unfortunately, the Alveran Army had had more than enough warning, the fleet's course and heading had been obvious as soon as the frigates had started tailing them. They had been able to send a warning back to shore and now the Alverans waited for the Parilisans to land on the beach.

As soon as the first units of the Parilisan Army had begun to line up, roundshot and shell began to land amongst the masses of men and supplies that were being unloaded. 12 and 16 pounders, well protected behind temporary bulwarks, worked methodically and their roundshot, which could cut a file of men clean in two and shells which, if properly cut, could decimate a gun team, were landing with horrible accuracy amongst the Parilisans. The Alversan Infantry, splendid in their dark blue coats and tall black shakos, stood and watched as the invader churned beneath the Alveran Artillery.

At the same time, Riflemen from the Jager Battalions were streaming forward, in loose order, taking potshots at the Officers and important people of the Army, always moving and running to avoid being hot by any piquets the Parilisans may have established.

Shells and cannon shot whistled around, causing devastation to the Parilisan ranks. Corpses began to line up on the sand, staining the beach red as they thrashed about in agony. A shell exploded nearby General von Hausplatz, spraying a shower of red dirt into his eyes. He clawed it out with angry fingers and looked around him. They had no way of retreating, they were pinned aginst the sea. Only half of the cavalry had left the boats.

The ships behind him were begining to fire with the few cannon they had not removed, attempting to pummel the gun crews out of their holes. But they did not have many guns.

"Forward!" roared the General. "Forward with me!" It was their only option, they had to reach the rocks below the cannons. These would provide shelter and it would be nearly impossible for the gunners to strike them.

The musketeers were well drilled and trusted their leader, and so their surged forward behind him. Some stopped momentarily to shoot up at the guns, but their effect was limited. Others tried to aim for the partly obscured cavalry who could just about be seen watching the violent carnage.

Port of Scwullide

The port was not undefended and, indeed, the merchant fleet had been tracked from the moment it had been spotted and, despite the best efforts of the Calendrandians, all it took was a Soldier to piss out of a porthole, or an Officer to stretch his legs on the deck, for the fleet's true purpose to be revealled.
The port was closed to transport anyway for the duration of the war, in case someone tried to get sneaky in the attack. Each jaw to the narrow port entrance were made up of tall, rocky outcrops and, on top of these, two powerful forts had been built. Originally designed long ago to keep out medieval raiders, they now housed cannon and Infantry to repel any attack on their port. The Port was also holding two more Frigates as a another line of defense, mobile batteries within the harbour itself.

A series of warning shots were fired at the Calendrandian fleet. No one was quite sure what it's purpose was, but it probably was not good.

Eastern Coast, Alveran Peninsula

The rocky outcrop they were aiming for was tall and thick, more than enough room to hide a Battalion of Infantry without danger of the cannons above which, now that they had a closer target to hit, began to fire canister as well, musket balls fired from the cannon like a great shotgun, devastating at close range.

And all the while, the shell and roundshot continued to pound the Parilisan ranks as they came forward. Towards the rocky outcrops that were their salvation. The Riflemen went back, not trained to stand and take a charge but more to snipe and to harry, now they fled back up to where the rest of the Alveran Infantry and Cavalry stood. Backs straight, flags billowing gently in the breeze. The thunder of the cannons defeaning. But the gun crews worked hard, patriotism and the need to defend their homes deep within their veins.

The Parilisans got closer to the outcrop. They were just a hundred yards from it now. Then 90, then 70, 50 yards away. The rocky outcrop was just beyond their reach.
Then someone shouted something from within the outcrop and, what was previously abandoned, was now filled with the dark blue coats of the Alveran Infantry. Their shakos made them seem like giants and their hard faces betrayed the delight of ambush.

The Parilisans would see those faces for less then a second, before they were staring down the barrels of levelled muskets then the Alveran line vanished behind a pale of white smoke. The splintering noise of the musket fire sounded pathetic compared to the deep roar of the cannons but at less than fifty yards, no man would miss. And already they were reloading, four ranks of Infantry, shoulder to shoulder.

At the same time, the Alveran Hussars and Dragoons began to wheel around to the flanks of the Parilisan landing beach, escorting horse artillery which would unload more death and destruction onto the Parilisans.

As the leaders of the Allied States watch the battle unfold they made a snap decision. Prince Vio met with King Fernando in the Hallowed halls of Sicily to discuss the actions up North. As they emerged they released this statement.

" As no one would accept their offer of mediation we would enter the war. A battlegroup on 50 ships will set out to aid the embattled nation of Alversia. "

Official Declaration of War

The Allied States of Sicily and Sardinia would official like to declare war on the Nation of Calendrandia as it is enroaching on the soverign waters and Lands of the Nation of Alversia. In court of our leaders and our lord we declare that a state of war exists between the Pure and Holy States of Sicily and Sardinia and the evil warmongering state of Calendrandia.

The Battle of Gibraltar.

First on the List of targets Gibraltar. The Ships of the allies slowly closed on the rock. They turned broadside and opened fire on Calendrandian defenders. 10 Men of war blasted away at the defences with thier full broadsides for a full hour reducing the defenders morale to nothing. Soon Allied Infantry landed on the rock.

"Bastards!" screamed the general as the musketeers and cannons devastated his ranks. A trail of blood and corpses ran from their current position back to the sea. The gun cavalry who had been heading forwards with the main force spotted the Alveran cavalry approaching on the Parilisan flank and they spurred of towards them.

Meanwhile, the soldiers who had survived the onslaught from the cliff made it to the bottom of the outcrop and beagn to shelter behind the huge boulders. Cannister shot had wounded many men, so that around a quarter of those who had survived the carnage were wounded in some way.

They shot upwards at the men at the top of the cliff, reloading and reshooting as fast as they could. If they managed to keep up a constant volley then it would be impossible for the soldiers on the hill to stand and shoot down upon them. The Duke was confident now they were in the safest part of the beach.

Ernst von Kahr of the King's Dragoons headed th attack against the outflanking enemy cavalry. His experience had trained him well and he was used to the violence of war. His men were experienced and perhaps the finest horsemen Parilisa had to offer. They would not surrender until every last man and horse was slain. They prepared their first volley as they moved closer. Then, in well drilled dicsipline, the men at the front of the advance stopped and fired. Then the men behind released their shots, then the men behind. By time the men toards the rear had finished shooting those in the front were almost ready to fire again, and they began to move once again, heading for the heart of the enemy cavalry.

The Alverans were also firing in a constant volley and, as they were firing down on the Parilisans. The invading Infantry may have been sheltered from the worst of the artillery bombardment but they were still exposed to the musket fire from the Alveran Battalion in the rocks and their constant volleys matched those of the Parilisan infantry.

The Alverans were professional infantry, volunteers, who spent every waking moment learning how to kill any invaders who dared to violate the Duchy's sovreignty. Now, several were plucked back as musket balls hit the ranks, the lines rippling as men moved forward to replace those who fell from the Battalions ranks. Some swore as they hit, some cried as they died. But the Alverans were determined to keep the Parilisans where they were, and time was on their side.

For even now, the Alveran Fleet was on it's way. Marshall Von Reichan, commander of the Alveran Army, was pleased with how the battle was continuing.

Meanwhile on the flank, the 13rd Dragoons watched as their Parilisan counterparts came forward, firing from the saddles. However, at this sort of range, the carbine was almost useless and most balls went harmlessly wide. The 13rd were battle-hardened as well. They knew to keep their carbines until the enemy were close. Meanwhile the artillery behind them continued to unload.

The Dragoons were desperate to join the enemy before the guns behind them could be unloaded, and they surged froward. The veins upon their horses sweat shining flanks stood up as they were pushed to extraordinary speeds. Von Kahr reckoned himself to be around 40 yards from his foe when he ordered the men to fire again.

They charged forward, they would join the foe in seconds. At the same time the infantry behind the rocks continued to keep up their fire. They were willing to wait; everything now depended on the dragoons, who were spreading themselves out slightly to help avoid enemy fire.

The Dragoons of the 13th fired at the same time as their counter-parts. Men and horses fell on both sides, kicking and screaming. The rest of the 13th elected not to fire but to withdraw. They pulled back behind the cannon. Which chose this moment to fire. The cannister from the four guns, against the packed horses and men at 40 yards, they were even more deadly than any musket volley. As the shotgun like blast and smoke rescinded, the survivors of the 13th charged through the smoke, sabres drawn, voices shrieking in shrill warcries.

Meanwhile, the 2nd Battalion of Holstein, the Battalion that was holding the ridge, where they poured deadly musket fire into the Parilisans who were still trying to fire up at the better concealed Alverans. They were loading and firing with all the precision and drill that could be gained from hours of practise in the cold. Their faces were black and their eyes smarted from the powder smoke. However, the Parilisans were trapped and the Alverans were just taking their time, volley after volley thumping into the massed ranks of Parilisan troops.

By this time of the attack, King Chucky had done got word of it and sent out four ships to aid Alversia. The four ships had been traveling to Alversia forever, so it seemed, and were finally close to their shores. As the ships came closer they got their soldiers lined up; ready to run in at any given moment. Many of the soldier's faces where young and scared, while some of them were old and showed no emotion at all. The young soldiers knew they might not make it out of this; but was willing to fight in honor of their King's command. The old soldiers had been in a few wars and battles before, they had to worry about nothing, the young soldiers went in first.

King Chucky waited at the top of the ship as it sailed right to the edge of Alversia. He had three four guns holstered and a sword in hand. He prepared to arrive at Alversia and begin fighting. Suddenly, he signaled his hand for the ships to unload and begin their aid for Alversia...

Few casualties were falling below the cliff now, thanks to the huge protection of the giant bouulders, and the General was pleased with how things were going. He had lost many more men than he expected, ut now they were defending well, and if the dragoons could break the enemy cavalry the battle would turn to their favour.

The men in the cavalry attack suffered greatly from the canister shot, but there were enough left standing to at leas defend against the charge. Von Kahr drew his sabre and his men did likewise as they charged towards the enemy who were charging at them. The two sides met with a clash of swords as they commited themselves to painful hand to hand fighting.

Marshall Von Reichan saw the Cavalry engaged on his flank and, with one nod, dispatched the 12th Dragoons to reinforce the 13th. That battle was in the balance for the moment, though with the addition of the new Dragoons and the fact that the artillery had shifted it's aim to the Parilisan Cavalry as it tried to form up as it came off the boats. The roundshot and shell were now ploughing into the cavalry with the accuracy that only heated barrels and knowledgable gunners could attain.

The battle was a stalmate, the Infantry were bogged down in their rocky outcrops while the Cavalry, parrying and thrusting, were evenly matched. That was until, the second Alveran Cavalry Regiment reached the battle and added their sabres to the already outnumbered Parilisans.

Then Von Reichan saw the Jufoncian fleet arriving and he knew that salvation had arrived. The Parilisans were surrounded and their fleet had little to no chance of escape. The best possible choice for them would be to surrender. However, if it where him, he would probably have fought to the very end.

And then the trap was sprung! Men poured out from the rocks to either side of the Allied forces, and cut off their retreat. Then Cavalry rode out from the fortress behind the line and smashed into the trapped enemy forces, all the while, deadly fire poured in from both sides. At the same time 20 men-o-war and 30 frigates came into sight from the other side of the rock, and half the force engaged the secondary landing fleet while the rest continued on to smash the main fleet. The previously hidden guns from the fort which the enemy had thought destroyed also opened up on the fleet. Now, the battle would begin in earnest.

As soon as the fleet realised they had been discovered, they headed off. They turned and sunk the following craft as soon as they were out of sight. Then they headed for a secondary landing site across from where the Parilisan forces were landing.

The Admiral looked through his telescope, the officers of the divisions which had not been dropped onto the beech gathering around the deck with him.
"God damn their fucking arses!" he scremed, throwing his telescope to the ground. "We've lost! We're finished!"
The cavalry officers on the deck stared at the screaming, rating, animated, gesticualting little officer in disbelief; for a man of such authority he seemed to have no dignity.
"Our fleet cannot stand up to that!" he screeched!
"What do we do then?" asked the most senior of the Cavalry officers on the deck. "We have no hope of managing to reinforce th beach, not with those cannons upon us. We can't wait for the enemy from the fleet t engage us. We have no chance of breaking the stalemate."
"We have gunpowder." said another officer. The men looked at him. "I have a plan." he said.

The battle between the dragoons was slowly turning to the side of the Alverans, whose superior numbers easily outweighed the Parilisans. The General realised that his entire army was damned and made a quick decision. He gathered the officers of half of the battalion to him, and together, crouching behind the rock, they discussed his plan.

It was foolish. It was pointless. It was heroic-It was Parilisan.

The General, leading half of the men who had landed, charged towards the enemy cavalry, releasing musket fire as they did so. He knew that by time he reached them his forces would be greatly reduced by the onslaught of the Alveran cannon, but it was a risk he was willing to take. The price would be great, but if he could add but a single man to the cavalry fight it would not be in vain.

Meanwhile, three ships from the Parilisan fleet headed towards their Jufoncian foe.

Sadly for the Calendrandians, the Alveran fleet was between them and the Parilisan landing zone. The 30 ships of the line about turned and engaged the Calendrandian transports. They were only merchant ships, for no warship would have been able to sneak through the Averan defences. The Ships of the line had over 80 guns each and now they were pounding the transports at close range, tearing them apart from point-blank range.

Meanwhile on the beach, the Alveran cannons now turned their shot from the shredded cavalry to the troops who had now exposed themselves from the rock and were moving in the open towards the Cavalry battle. Then, on the flank, another Alveran Battalion had set up and it fired at point blank range, at less than fifty feet, there would be nothing in the smoke but slaughter and death, for the muskets would not miss at that range. They continued to fire in volleys. One rank loading another another fired, the result being constant musket fire pounding the flank of the Parilisan charge.

The escort of 16 men-o-war, with 70-80 guns each and 25 frigates with 35-40 guns each moved to engage while the transports unloaded their cargo. One was sunk, but it was carrying half the food for the campaign, and only 500 men. The troops set off immiedietly, so as to get out of range of the ships. OOC: And you can't sail around a peninsula and gain an escort in a matter of minutes. There was no escort when you tried to sail into my port

OOC:No, you don't get it, I am still on the other side of the pennensula. My men are marching across the pennensula. There was no escort visible. Only the transports were to enter the harbor, the escort was a few miles behind. after you fired your warning shots, they met up and headed down the coast to a place right across from where the Parilisans were attacking.

OOC: But to connect with invisible forces (who would have to be over the horizon and at least a hundred miles away) would take several hours. You cannot just suddenly appear like that. And you're going to march 300 miles without supplies to aid an Ally who has already been defeated? And you can't say that you've sunk my frigate, that's godmodding.

The Alveran Battalions came surging across and managed to either restrain or capture the few Parilisans left after their suicidal charge. The battle had been an overwhelming victory for the Alveran Army, for it had defeated the landed forces and suffered very few casualties of their own. Less than 2,000, all of them in the Dragoons and the one Infantry Battalion who had engaged the Parilisans as they defended the ridge. The battle was an overwhelming victory for the Duchy and it's old Duke. Now he had to rally the army to prepare for a new threat, for surely an attack would come along the west coast now, where a fleet of attackers had tried to enter the port and been turned away. That was where the new threat would come from. The main bulk of the Alveran Army was based in the North west anyway. It would be ready for any strike as it came in.

The three ships dug deeper into the Alveran fleet. Below decks the Admiral and his companion had become quite drunk and they peered out of the window to gaze upon the enemy ships which so far had ignored them.

"Perfect." said the Admiral. "My friend, within an hour we will be dead. And there will be dishonour upon our once noble names." he raised his glass of wine. "To the king."

The officer sat beside him did the same. The plan was ridiculous, but it could at least have some effect.

OOC: You also have to agree that there is no way your escort and transports could have met up within the time limit unless your transports went back against the wind then came back again, which would take even longer.

And, Parilisa, sorry to say it but there is an obvious flaw with your plan...

IC:

The Alveran ships watched as the Parilisan ships came closer, seemingly abandoned and they manouvered out of their way. They knew that they were either bomb ships or fireships, neither very beneficial to the wooden hulls of the Alveran warships and so they just opened gaps in their small line to let the vessels drift safely by, a good distance between the empty Parilisan ships and their Alveran counterparts.

OOC:Who said they were sailing against the wind? And true, but at the point were my men landed, Parilisia was already defeated, but I don't know it yet. I'm operating under the assumption that they have won. I guess my plan is flawed, Could you give me all your cities in the region, and their defenses, as well as some small villages for me to ransack?

IC: George Caraniea, leader of the Calendrandian forces looked around the camp. His men were discouraged. They were to cross the pennensula, destroying towns and cities to link up with the hopefully victorius Parilisans, but they had lost nearly all their food, and they were on foreign soil, which combined to make morale very low. He would have to pillage a town soon, or his men would starve. He had already sent out scouts to report on the defenses of the towns on the map. and dispatched a company of 200 cavalry to find out if the Parilisans had been succesful.

OOC: The nearest village is twenty miles away but it's little more than a hamlet. The next is thirty miles away but that's the Region's capital, so it's a fortress, then the final town is twenty five miles south which is close to where you tried to attack in the first place. But none of the villages apart from the capital hold more than a hundred people and have the food to match it.

Western Coast

The 200 strong Cavalry patrol would be met by Cavalry coming in the opposite direction. Dragoons. It had not taken long for a local artist to spot the masts and sails of the invasion fleet and warn the local village. A messenger had galloped at full speed to the Region's Capital, which held a powerful garrison, and from there, a full Regiment of Dragoons had been sent out to investigate.
The green-coated Dragoons spotted the enemy but did not close the gap. They were content to stay well out of carbine range and just to watch their enemies. Then one of them tied a white hankerchief to his sabre and galloped forward with two of his comrades, stopping roughly in the middle ground.

An Alveran Army was already marching north, warning about the invasion fleet days ago and it was being augmented by troops from the southern Garrisons. This would soon join with an Army coming from the east, Field Marshall Von Reighan's successful corps was also on it's way to join the battle.

OOC:Making it hard for me huh? How many men total?

IC: The Cavalry commander saw that he was out numbered, and decided to parley with the enemy commander. He had to stall and hope that help would arrive.

Caraniea ordered his cavalry to raid the closest town and take the entire town hostage. Men women and children. In the mean time, he moved the rest of the army towards the town. They would take shelter there in two nights. He estimated he had enough food for a week. They would have to assault and occupy the region's capital if they were to survive. He had known they would have to do this and had the foresight to take two 74 pounders, 3 54 pounders, and 6 32 pound siege cannons. Hopefully though, if everything went according to plan he would not even have to use them.

"I am here to offer peace," Though he was Alveran, the Commander spoke with confidence and fluidity in the unfamiliar language, "Your Allies have been crushed on the Eastern Coast. They did not even get off the beach and right now, we have 50,000 men coming for you from all directions. You have no chance of victory. So we offer you the chance to return to your vessels and return to your own land, unharmed. These are good terms, no?" he asked frowning.

When the Cavalry ransacked the nearest village, a small handfull of people managed to escape into the night and so they were not taken hostage. They walked to the Region capital, knowing they would not reach it in time. Luckily for them, they were intercepted by another Cavalry patrol and their story was reported to the town.

The Army from the south would be at the Region's capital in two days. The Corps of Von Reichan would be there in four or five. 40,000 men would be joined by the 1,000 men of the town's garrison and the 10,000 men coming from the East. It didn't take long for Lorraine to get wind of the attacks against Alversia. Since the lowlands often heard about everything in Alversia, the news spread fast, until an official report was placed infront of the President. He knew that Parilisa wasn't a large threat to the mightly Alversian army, one who often showed their might on the border competing with Lorraine troops for the best looking. But he did know that Alversia often placed the majority of their troops to the north. The south was a very weak spot for them. Should have landed somewhere else, the penninsula isn't very easy to take, thought the president to himself. But what really intriegued him, was that the Calendrandian army was sent to the other side. And not to mention that their southern territorries had been attacked. The left him with a very appealing target. Brittany had always been fought over by every nation. Calendrandia had siezed it a while back, but Lorraine wanted it. Since the Senate for now had no control over military affairs, he ordered for his generals to meet up with him in the capital.

After a few hours of chit-chat, the last of the generals arrived for the meet. The Admirality showed up together after the talk with the generals finished.

The final plan was laid out. Most warships in the area were to blockade Brittany and prevent Calendrandian reinforcements from landing. The generals would then make a full out invasion after a week of blockade and skirmishes to determine if their navy would be able to take out the spread out Calendrandian navy. They wouldn't extend the war for fear of having a large defeat, but they believed that the simple, yet strong plan would work.

At the numerous ports around the coast, warships left to surround Brittany and hit the Calendrandian ports (In Britain) hard and to then blockade Brittany. News wouldn't reach Calendrandia in time either because of the quick and secretive nature of the plan. Ships of the Atlantic fleet arrived at every major harbour in southern Calendrandia and began to fire on every warship seen. Cannon blazed and shot and shell ripped through the vessels. musket fire came from the ground and was returned by cannon and vollys of muskets if in range. Other ships began the same process on the Brittany coast, ensuring that Calendrandia would feel the might of the Lorraine naval power.

We will never surrender or retreat! the commander replied and slashed at the enemy leader. It was a dishonorable move, but I was his only chance of saving his men. Even as his opponant slumped in the saddle, wounded, perhaps mortally he and his force rode as fast as they could for their army, the enemy hot on their hooves.

Commander Caraniea was going over his plan with his subordinates. "When we arrive at the fortress, we will present the hostages. we will kill them one by one until the enemy surenders. Then we will take the fortress and hold it until reenforcements arrive.

Meanwhile, the fleet that had carried them there had disengaged with the loss of 2 frigates and a man-o-war. They headed back to Calendrandia, once there, they would attempt to bring in another 15,000 men. These men would attempt to take the port by force.

The King and Parliment did not like how things were turning out. Just outside, in the bay there was a battle going on. They needed more allies! They sent a letter to Scandanavia.

We are engaged in a war with Alversia and several other nations. We need your help. If you aid us we will provide whatever you wish.

OOC: I hope none of you mind me pulling Jufonce out of the war and focusing expanding it's land.
IC:
The Prince of Jufonce was sitting at the Oval table, discussing land. He stood up and pointed at a map of the lands. "We send three ships here and claim these islands.", says Prince Harold. "Three ships? We have never explored these islands, we do not know what awaits us...", the Head of House refusing the Princes' idea. He was allowed to do this, only the King could do as he pleased.

The Prince looked at Sir de Demendez with anger. "You damn scippy.. you seek nothing good for Jufonce.", Prince Harold says with anger in his throat. In Jufician (Jufonce's English-originated language) "scippy" means a fool; and many didn't like to be called it. Demendez stood up and walked over to the board and stood in front of Prince Harold.

"Boy you know better to insult a Household member. Cease your presence!", says Demendez. "I'll do as I please, dammit!", says Prince Harold. Prince Harold suddenly falls to the ground Demendez punches him backwards. "Take him away.", says Demendez; ordering the two soldiers in the room.

After Prince Harold is taken from the room and the Household members go back into their planning period; King Chucky and his fleet arrive in Jufonce again. King Chucky marches into the office and sits upon his chair. The Household bring in a peasant, who has stolen gold from the castle. King Chucky is forced to make a decision...

"Put him on the chains for a day; I feel generous.", King Chucky says as he shoos the prisoner away with soldiers.

"After talking it over with my son, Prince Harold, I have decided that Jufonce is going to stay neutral in this war and focus and focus on finding new land. We will start with the three islands in our waters. I will be sending a fleet of one thousand explorers, two ships of food, and five hundred soldiers to each island. Lee Micheals will be the one whom will head this voyage.", Jufonce announces to his Household.

The pocket.

The moment the trap was sprung the Allied troops reacted quite unexpectedly. Instead of running or dispersing they dug in. Almost 7500 strong they formed an imperentrable ring of pikes and gun that the cavalry could not break. The Elite 3rd Janissaries formed the outer ring of troops with a kill to lose ratio of around 3:1. They found cover and traded shot for shot against enemy troops.

South beachhead.

On the south beach thousands more allied troop poured onto the beach and retook the first line defences. They turned captured cannon around and brought up massive bombards to smash the fort. The cannons dueled shot for shot. Allied troops dug in and made no attempt to advance.

North Beachhead.

Allied troops poured onto the beaches quickly overwhleming the weak first line defences. As in the south they dug in and brought in cannon to fire on the fort.

The Sea battle.

Holy Admiral Ali Burakir was very conservative with his ships up until now. Consequently he had only lost 5 warships. His remaining 45 warships were pushed into use against the Calendrandian fleet. fo the rest of the day they slowly corraled them back into a tight circle at the east side of the isle. Calendrandian vessels were trapped on one side by the isle and on the other the Allied fleet.

Admiral Ali also sent a request for 50 000 more men and 60 warships from the mainland. (OOC: it is only a little ways away)

Then the hostages were brought forward. there were about 150 of them. A message was delivered to the fort's commander. "Surrender. OOC: If it was only three days then you would still be outside the port. I've already said the wind is coming from north to south, which slows your vessels and mine, which is why I couldn't intercept Parilisa's invading fleet.

And the army was on the border between Denmark and Germany, still in Germany but as close as you can be. Besides, how big is your army anyway?

15,000 There are different winds on the different sides of the pennensula. Besides, I did'nt go that far up the coast, only 25 miles. It only took about a day. Also you're force would have been spotted, as it would have had to pass mine.

That was before my cavalry reported to me what you had told them. I moved on the second they got back. So i only spent a night and half a day there. It was about dusk when I arrived at the fort.

OOC: What the heck?! You only had one beachead established! You were still landing at the second beachead when my navy attacked! Your men in the pocket would not have had time to react, much less dig in, there would be no cover, you are in the middle of a beach! They were in the middle of a charge when men attacked from the rear, flanks and cavalry charged from the front! Secondly, the fort is pouring fire into your ships from at least 300 guns!

Two actually look back. I landed a third one.(1000 men) The Pocket was consolidated (over time) through fierce fighting with many loses. and it is past the first line defences. i took the first line and continued to advance towards the fort they where than ambushed. My Ships are pouring fire into your ships and your fort. i brought in bombards to pound the fort. do you know how big a bombard is.

IC: The merchantman sailed into the capital city of Greal. The disguised Ambassador hopped of and headed to the governmental facilities. He went over his orders one more time: he was to offer an alliance. The Grealies were to set the terms. He was to make a reasonable bargain. These were the order off every Calendrandian ambassador, who were now offering every neutral nation this deal.

The Greali Government as of this time was not getting itself allied with a warmongering nation. They had other concerns to worry about.

OOC:And when, did all this happen? I didn't see it posted, did anyone else? According to your last post you had broken through the first line on the first landing sight(or rather, I let you) and as soon as you broke through I cut of the pocket from the rest of your men and attacked from all sides, it would have been crushed. You were still landing men on the second beach when I attacked. A fort beats ships any day. And yes, I know how big a bombard is, but where did they come ashore. Also, you have yet to post any real casualties. Also, what types of ships? I can't post a defense unless I have numbers, types, and positions!

OOC:How am I warmongering? I just helped Parilisa out in it's attack. Besides, Alversia was a threat to my and Parilisa's trade. It could have cut off all black sea trade at any time!

OOC: How many times do I have to say this! I do not and cannot cut off trade to the Baltic you mean, not the Black sea. I do not have the fleet to cut off trade to an entire sea and I am not yet mad enough to try it. Besides, Parilisa's attack was unprovoked and I tried to offer you a chance to discuss terms and you killed my Negoitator. You're continuing with a war no one else in the north wants to fight.

Are you saying you want to quit, because if you are willing to provide terms, I am willing to have the cavalry officer exicuted.

Ok so we'll go like this. You navy is surrounded by my 30 men of war and 15 frigates. 60 more vessels are on thier way. The first landing site was destroyed. second and third sites are landed and established. around 7500 of my 25 000 troops are WIA or KIA or MIA. 50 000 addiotional troops are also on the way. beaches north and west have brought up cannon and dug in. satisfied.

OOC: I was more hoping for a mutual agreement to terminate the war, seeing as I hold every advantage and you have problems elsewhere in Brittany and Gilbraltor, therefore you would prefer not to have an army of 15,000 men trapped in the winter wasteland that will soon be Denmark.
