The Hunt for Baranyi (Revised, Open, MT-PMT)

The U.N.V Baranyi, a Virginia-class nuclear attack submarine, had recently dissapeared while on a training run at the border of Ursavian waters. At the moment military command was thinking that only one of two things could have likely happened: that they had suddenly decided to go rouge, or that they had come across mechanical complications that had stopped them from radioing for aid. As a result dozens of vessels, aircraft, and other submarines were being released to search the Ursavian waters in an event that soon became televised across all of Ursava.

Then the search-effort changed to that of a man-hunt as a single Ticonderoga-class destroyer was sank by what, as the captain of the ship barely had time to confirm, was the very same submarine they had been trying to rescue. That meant that it had gone rouge and now the rescue vessels were brought back home as more combat-oriented vessels were released in a hunt for the now rouge vessel. All members of the crew were declared ‘Enemies of the State’ by President Saáry. Then, two weeks after the submarine had gone missing, the call to other nations had gone out:

To: The Nations of the Free World.
From: The Ursavian Ministry of Diplomacy.

The U.N.V Baranyi has recently gone rouge while on a standard training mission. It has sank one vessel and killed a majority of the crew. As such we have declared all members of the vessel's crew to be enemies of the state. We wish to inform all nations that might come across this vessel that the crew has officially been declared enemies of Ursava who are to be captured immediately. Any and all aid to find this rouge crew will be gratefully accepted.

From: The Ursavian Ministry of Diplomacy.

Your aid in this situation will be greatly appriciated. We must warn you that the Baranyi left dock with full combat supplies and fresh stocks of food and other such supplies. They are a dangerous force and should be handled with caution. Capture of the crew and vessel, if somehow possible, would be prefered but if it is necessary the death and total annialation of the vessel will not be frowned upon.

We currently have 6 P-3C Orions of our Navy's 5th Maritime Patrol Squadron on a training exercise in the region. The planes are armed and have full anti-submarine warfare capability. On the condition that you grant us permisson, Supreme Chancellor Steiner Olson has given us the go ahead to search and if necessary destroy this sub of yours. A rogue sub with the ability to launch Tomahawk cruise missiles is a very serious threat.

We would like to know if you have gathered any leads into the possible motives of the crew. What set them off? Let us know if you find out.

Also, be aware that the Republic Senate has not given us permission for this little operation. The Supreme Chancellor has called an emergency meeting of the Senate to ask for just that. For now however, our involvment, if you should choose to accept our assistance, must be kept secret.

Lastly, I need to know ahead of time, if we locate the Baranyi, are we clear to sink her or should we await Ursavian Naval forces? I'd like to point out that this may be time sensitive and if we don't sink her while we have the chance, she may get away.

We await your reply.

Sincerely, Kjell Hansen, Republic of Starplain Ministry of Defence

To: Minister of Defence Kjeil Hansen, Republic of Starplain.
From: The Ursavian Ministry of Diplomacy.

We gladly accept the aid that you have offered and will do our best to guide the press away from any areas where you might be operating until national permission from the Republic Senate has been granted. We would also like to inform you that we would, if the oppurtunity presents itself, have the vessel and crew detained for interogation and the trial deserved by even traitors and criminals of war. If you must sink the vessel however, you and all participating forces are being granted free use of force against the Ursavian vessel but you must also detain any and all possible survivors. Also, from what our research and meetings have deduced, this is what we are able to give you in answer to your otsecond question involving possible motives:

They intend to defect to one of many possible enemies of Ursava.
There may have been several anti-government radicals who got on board and who have seized the vessel.
They have been bribed/convinced in to a cause by an unknown party before they set sail.

These are the three most likely reasons so far. If you have any other suggestions or believe one of these to be unlikely we would appriciate any and all aid in finding out why this crew has gone against their fellow brothers in arms and the government which serves them.

OOC: I may post as the sub captain soon.

The BHS Independance, aAlligence Class Aircraft Carrier and her escorts turned towards Usarvian waters, on the bridge the ships captain; Elizabeth langely stood.

"Cowboy 1 to all Cowboys: I'm picking up something on radar; over." The Wing leader stated.

"Rodger that Cowboy 1, so are we; over." One of the four other pilots replied.

"Let's move to check it out; over." The Wing leader said again.

"Yes sir; over and out." The same pilot replied.

Soon, the F-35s peeled in the direction of the detected blip and sent coordinates out to a ship-based Ursavian command center which then sent them out to Battlehawk and Starplain.

The plane shuddered again as it passed through another wave of turbulance. No matter how long he kept at this job, Lieutenant Commander Erik Garborg would never get used to the shaking. He grumbled under his breath and braced himself as the P-3C Orion's pilot warned of more turbulance up ahead. Why can't we ever train in good weather? he thought to himself. He began to close his eyes in a vain attempt to get some much needed shut eye.
Suddenly the machine next to his head buzzed, signifying a fax was coming through.
"You gonna' get that sir?" Asked Otto Nansen; one of the plane's sensor operators.
No rest for the weary thought Erik as he sighed. "Ya ya, I'll get it."
He tore the paper from the fax machine and began to read; his disbelief growing with each passing sentence. He rocked back trying to comprehend his new orders. He quickly regained his composure and walked up to the cockpit.
He turned to one of the pilots and said, "Sig, command's got a new training exercise for us. Make our heading 3-1-5 and relay that to all other planes."
"A new exercise? But we haven't finished this one yet."
"Hey, I don't make the rules. If command says jump I jump and you will too if you know what's good for you."
"Whatever, I was getting bored anyway. 3-1-5 right?"
"Right."
"So what's the new mission?"
"It's a joint exercise with Ursava. Live fire. We have to find a sub. Whoever finds it first wins."
"Cool. We never get to have fun like this."
"Yeah, fun..." Replied Erik. With that he walked to the rear of the plane and into the cramped lavatory. He closed the door firmly behind him and nearly lost his balance as another bout of turbulance hit the plane. He took the gold-plated cigarrette lighter that he had inherited after his father died from his pocket and lit the piece of paper that he had just recieved on fire; just as he had been ordered too.
So, he thought, After 15 years I'm finally going to see some action. Though he tried, he couldn't keep the excitement from his thoughts. He did hate lying to his crew, But, he reasoned, what they don't know won't hurt them... I hope...

OOC: The Captain of this sub wouldn't happen to be a man named Ramius, would he? Now that would be quite a bit of irony right there.

Will hold off on an IC post for now. The Salzland Defense Fleet is monitoring the situation, but unwilling to commit at this time.

OOC: Falkasia, I sent you another telegram. Realistic response idea: I like it. Anyways, as I promised:

Fomer Ursavian Captain Roland Ferenk of the now rouge UNV Antal watched as his crew went about their business, knowing that once they managed to get hte large amount of drugs now on the submarine they would be able to spend the money they had gotten from the Falkasian freely and be untracable by the White Sheild. Thus they were on their way to a spot near the coast of Salzland and from there they would off-load the supplies on to another ship. After that it wasn't their concern anymore. All they'd have to do is find and remove the primary and secondary tracking beacons on their submarine and they'd be home-free. Until then though, they need to avoid only god knew how many navies...including Salzland's if they ever found out what was going on just what was going to go down just a few miles in to their waters.

Overall though, the captain wondered why the dealer had picked Salzland. Most likely it was so that Battlehawk and the others would need confirmation from Salzland before they could touch them and in that time the drugs would hopefully be transported and Former Captain Roland, along with the rest of the crew, would be home-free.

OOC: I do have somewhat of a limited SONAR surveillance grid in place (think SOSUS), so depending on what speed the Antal is making as it approaches my coast, and whether the proposed meeting will be inside or outside shipping lanes, I might end up detecting it.
