Ok this sort of thread has been a recurring dream of mine for quite some time. The only limitation is that you must use wooden sailing ships. For the sake of uniformity the time period will be from the mid 18th century (that's during the middle of the 1700's for you non-history buffs). A naval battle can be pretty hectic so I'm going to limit this to 4 nations beside myself.

Proposed RP Scenario
This is my proposal for a storyline based on my own countries history, however this isn’t my RP and if you guys have other preferences lets here them. If not this would at least give us a reason for everyone being in the area.
The objective is a small naval game, so the land war is negated and everything relates to convoys of troops and arms reaching Rechburg or Kunesdorf or Pirates raiding independent shipping in the area.
The Rechburg and Kunesdorf Navies were small, the Rechburg Ducal forces would have only several ships of the line and lesser vessels. Kunesdorf would have similar.
I would operate just one ducal fleet, others could operate other other Ducal fleets or those on the Kunesdorf side.
Other Players would depending on their preferences operate as their own nations supporting one side or another or as pirates attacking all sides.

History
The years from 1700 to 1800 were very tumultuous for the Duchy of Rechburg
For many of the early years of the 18th Century little changed the Rechburg society The early years will be best remembered as the calm before the storm, a time of gentility and innovation before the savagery and destruction of Civil War.
In 1721 the order of the Knights of Rechburg decided to implement change in the entire structure of the Nation. Changes were introduced from the bottom of society to the top.
The Nation was renamed the Electorate of Rechburg, the ruling Brunswick family led by the Duke Karl Brunswick named himself and his family hereditary Electors of Rechburg.
He did this with the support of some very powerful Nobles allied to the Brunswick family, the family had its powerbase in the Province of Kunesdorf.
The order of Knights of Rechburg as was expected protested in this coup for power. However the Brunswick family had carefully planned there moves and the Order found itself being outmanoeuvred by the Elector Brunswick. With the usurpation of increased power Rechburg was about to be laid open to Brunswick supporters both with Kunesdorf as well as over seas. This opportunistic gathering of Baron robbers intended to take possession of the nation's raw materials through enforced acquisition. When the program started in the province of Caledonia, those who resisted were imprisoned on false charges or dispossessed without restitution. The program extended into other provinces, the Brunswick family gaining strength in these areas by placing their own families and friends in positions of power in each province.
In January 23 1722 in Kunesdorf, the rift between that province and the order of the Knights of Rechburg came to a head once again when the gangs of Brunswick supporters attacked a Knights of Rechburg Monastic retreat, killing 23 trainee knights as well as all the servants.
The order was outraged as were many of the people of Rechburg, the veil of subservience was lifted from the eyes of the people who began to see that the Elector based his rule on personal greed and power.
People began to look for someone to resist the Elector, that resistance started within the order of the Knights Of Rechburg.
Meetings were held throughout the nation, they were usually organised by the order, the Elector retaliated by making the order illegal. Finally in 1724 resistance to the Elector began, several provinces gathered together to denounce the Elector and his forces, in fact with the Order and later most of the nation declared themselves separate from the Province of Kunesdorf and its allies.
Initially several other Provinces declared for the Elector, however their support for the Elector was limited, as many men of the allied nations refused to fight; naturally the strongest support for the Elector came from within Kunesdorf, as well as from the Elector's supporters in other major powers.
The war started with both sides seeking naval support, both to secure trade but to allow reinforcements as well.

As for my stance, i'd like to role play my nation, but in a sense i'd be fulfilling a rather pirate like stance since my navy is rather mercantile in nature. Whichever side offers the most to my nation, whether it be trading deals or simply money, they'd fight on that side as long as the circumstances suit them.
I'd enter when one of my trading vessels brings news back to my naiton from one of your ports about what's going on. We dispatch a fleet and what happens from there depends on what theparticular party offers us for assisting them. Along the way we may change sides depending on the situation.

I would imagine the Brunswick family has the most money to offer.
Lets see....How old is the order of the Knights of Rechburg? It's entirely possible that the Knights of Rechburg and the Knights of Ivory fought side by side in the Crusades of old.
The Knights of Ivory returned to DR well endowed from their campaigns in the Holy Land. There they had made contacts, treaties, agreements, and alliances with the overland merchants. The knights pooled their money and purchased a fleet of merchant ships, which brought these goods to DR. Using their wealth, power, and influence they won a majority in the Parliament. Upon gaining control of Parliament they elected one of their own as the head of state. This dynasty remains in power to this day.
If the two orders of Knights did infact fight together than it is entirely possible that they would come to their aid now, obviously not in the form of an invasion force, but they would be willing to escort merchant vessels.

I was hoping not, the use of Ironclads completely changes the dynamics of naval warfare at the time. Instead of trying to gain wind advantage, and attempting broadsides, ironclads simply sat there and dished out punishment. This RP will take place in the 18th century (1700's) so as not to allow steam propulsion, or ironclads.

Since I have never RPed as a pirate before, I would like to give it a shot. I will have organized pirates that don't have any true home country, but fight for political power in nations. Sort of like how FARC fights in Colombia. Territory is not a big issue for me as I have no territory to defend, but will staunchly defend any nation where I have political power. The force is rather large and buit for fighting against foreign ships of the line.

Here are some Perinent facts that may help.
Knights of Rechburg are a very old order, certainly around in the times of the crusades.
We need outside nations to sell weapons to one or both sides.
Pirates can raid either both or one side only, nations selling goods in would best provide their own escorts as merchants can be attacked by anyside or by pirates.
The Brunswick family are the richest family in Rechburg. The main port is Matra, which is also the Capital of Kunesdorf.
Its main allies are Caladonia, Mantua and Saxonne in the north.
There are no ship building facilities in Rechburg and the Naval yards were at Kunesdorf in Matra and Cambaltown in Normandie, these yards may repair and requip ships only.
Both sides desperately need armaments, and reinforcements. The pay with trade in kind, thus as armaments are brought in, gold and treasure are sent out to the sellers.
The main resistance to the Elector is based on Normandie with its allies in Rechburg being Brienne, Delphia and Canterbury.
The winds around the southern coast prevail south to north, its a temperate climate.
The winds on the north blow north to south and is often cold and blustery.
the winds on the east and west coast swirl and can be unreliable.
If a ship has to put into land it may land in a neutral province if desired, if both sides are in a neutral port they may attack each other but not the port or the towns, if they do so, the province may join the opposing side.
I will announce when convoys or mercant ships are coming and going onto the map area, so players may RP their reactions.
In each announcement their will be a rough guide as to what is on board, this is information that would have leaked out.
There is no real winner or loser, its a fun RP, but keep it real and above all be nice.
As I didnt start the RP all these things need to be approved by Dynamic revolution, its his show.

Flagship: "Vengance": 90 guns: Green: Master Captain Stras
Stras was never really allied with any province, until a realization that Kunesdorf had complete control of the area. So far, he hasn't made any true attacks on a Rechburg fleet, only slave traders, but he has become eager to attack them and fight for his own glory. Born into a wealthy family, the death of all his family members left him with a huge sum of money. Along with the comanpies unwilling help in providing him with a few ships, he has purchased every single ship in his fleet.
"Defiant": 74 guns: Green: Captain Deverand
Deverand has always been the best friend of Stras, never disobeying unless he thought it wasn't in the best interest of the men under his control. This has gotten him command of the second in command ship.
"Decimator": 74 guns: Green: Captain Berun
Berun has never backed down from a fight, his persistance and vigor in battle made him a perfect candidate for the job. Berun got his reputation as a shipmate of Stras in his early years of sailing, trying to take a ship by himslef when the cannon fighting was still going on. He had bravely boarded the slave ship and killed the enemies captain.
"Stalker": 50 guns: Green: Captain Julian
Julian never served under Stras before in his life, but had idolized man from the start. Always trying to quote him and perfect his manuevers. Julian has always looked up to him and would do anything for his commander.
"Night Hunter": 50 guns: Green: Captain Gerin
Gerin, while relitively unknown to most traders, commands a ship that has been in almost every single engagement. The Night Hunter has been seen doing everything from fighting slave traders, to blasting company ships. He has described himself as a mercenary, but took up the post of joining Stras, as he has taken a fond interest in his cause.
"Blasphemy": 20 guns: Green: Captain Forder
A tiny ship stolen from the company by none otehr than Forder himself. Forder, as most captains in the fleet, had been a member of Stras's crew during his early years. His unwillingness to betray his mentor, friend, and captain, has given him a reputation as the most loyal captain among the fleet.
"Delerium": 10 guns: Green: Captain Terre
Terre was a favorite of Stras during his early years in command. Terre had shown great potential and was already a great captain, though still very young. His lack of experience got him the small 10 gunned Delerium, a tiny scout used by the fleet, though the fact taht he has been given the responsibility of a ship at all is enough for him.
I hope this is better than what it was before, I think I overdid it a bit.

Not much is known about McDoolin's early life, however what is known is that he works jobs that the normal military finds 'too sensitive' Essentially he is a privateer sanctioned by the government. Impenetrable is one of the slower ships because it sacrifices speed for resilience. Upon entering combat Impenetrable crew members drape iron chains over the side of the ship.

His ship was attacked by McDoolins fleet and O'rulin was pushed into service. He lives for the chase and is exceptionally good at it. As such he has been given the fastest frigate in the pirate fleet. It is important to point out that Doggard has 4 pursuit cannon instead of the standard 2

Jack Wells is a bit of a superstitious man. He loves an unruly boat, or as he calls it 'One with spirit'. As such he was given the Hammond to command. She's quick, capable of outmaneuvering most vessels afloat.

John is a man of many talents. He can gamble, curse, drink, fight, and kill. He loves to get down and dirty and his ship reflects this. Boisterous thrives in up close action. Most, if not all, her guns are carronades.

Brother to John. George is a hunter by nature and so is his ship. Using long guns for the well placed far shots rather than getting close. His ship is fitted with rifles as opposed to cannons, and cannonades .

I've created a new nation, Callidon, that will be a kingdom whose settlers were partially the forefathers of Sarzonia (which may require modifying Sarzonia's back history, but meh).
Here's the squadron, representing the Kingdom of Callidon:
Columbia, 44, is a Constitution-class frigate designed by Joshua Humphreys. It was built along the same plan as the Constitution itself and is a mix of speed, strength and firepower.
Constellation, 36, is a Constellation-class frigate, also designed by Humphreys. It's built the same way as the original Constellation, which was known as the Yankee Racehorse.
Alert, 32, is how I'd imagine a Joshua Humphreys-designed 32 gun frigate. It measures 152 feet along the waterline and is armed with 26 24 pounder long guns and 10 32 pound carronades.
Carolina, 26, is essentially the same class as the USS Saratoga, which fought in the Battle of Plattsburgh. Unlike its later sister ship, it is armed with 26 18 pounder long guns.
Defence, 22, is a large for its class ship sloop. It's armed with 20 18 pounder long guns and two 32 pounder carronades.
Right now, the only ship that I have a crew and somewhat of a back history for is Columbia. Callidon is currently planning to construct a 74 gun ship of the line to be named after the country itself. It'll be armed with 32 32 pounder long guns on the lower gun deck, 30 18 pounder long guns on the upper gun deck and 20 32 pounder carronades on the spar deck.

Yes blub plse come back as a Kunesdorf palyer, that is you are the legitmate Elector, trying to put down a revolt. Tho within the concept of this game we are merely using Naval forces.
Events on land will be reflected (all be it abstractly) by what happens at sea to a large extent.
Blub or anyone else welcome to pick up the Kunedorf cause or you can share it. That is there could be two Kunesdorf fleets.

You can be any faction (But Imperial Kunesdorf would be great) As such we are all operating between 7 - 10 ships. Just keep them real for mid 1790's.
If you choose Kunesdorf then I will give you a brief rundown later, if a pirate just nominate a trade route and go for it.
No hard and fast rules but some guidelines at the beginning of the RP, basically have fun in the bath with your toy boats, like the rest of us.

KUNESDORF = Kunesdorf has had a colourful history within the history of the Duchy of Rechburg. Its provisional Governments have been the instigator's of two civil wars and still maintain today a strong independence movement within the provincial government.
The power of the province has for centuries been maintained by the Brunswick family, an enormously wealthy and powerful family within Rechburg society. Kunesdorf was the homeland of the original Gregorian people. The Gregorians were a fanatically strong mercantile race of people that became involved in Rechburg commerce. The Brunswick family can trace their family lineage back to these people and it is from the Gregorian clans that the Brunswicks have and still do draw their atrongest support.
There has been a constant conflict between the Brunswick Provisional Government and the Knights of Rechburg who maintain several chapter houses and institutions within Kunesdorf. Many Kunesdorfians consider these chapter houses and institutions as "occupation Barracks" and bases for "Ducal Propoganda".
Main Cities - Provincial Capital - Albany, centre of the Province, other cities - Posen, Hamner, Levin, Matra, Knightsbridge.
Main Military base and Knights of Rechburg Chapter house -Matra, Albany and Knightsbridge.
Main naval base - Matra.
Ports - Many small ones, Larger Ports - Matra, Albany, Angeles. (Each of these Ports have two Forts(castles) at the Port entrance.

For the purpose of this RP Kunesdorf can claim abstract Foriegn aid, that can be raw material, troops and ship. Kunesdorf has two fleets the 1st can be 7 - 10 ships the 2nd must be no more than 7.
For all Naval bases of each Province of every nation in Rechburg and Kunesdorf have at least 1 fort at the entrance, some will have 2.
A Fort may fire hot shot, ships at sea may not.
Each fort, consists of 100 guns in stone (concrete) emplacements, they have a garrison of 500 troops not including gunners.

Its from the modern era factbook. He just forgot to erase it I hope. My little pirates won't be able to go against F-14s or anything like that.
