[[OOC: This is an OPEN RP thread for MT nations. Feel free to post responses from your nation, as a drug-czar taking notice of the incident, or however you wish. Limited military encounters are allowed but remember that the eastern seaboard is hazardous to your health right now (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=569222).]]

Karshkovia State News Network

"... a small number of radical students protest in front of the Presidential Palace today turned violent today by throwing rocks and firebombs at the Police and Presidential Guard. On orders directly from the President, the police and Presidential Guard were to allow the protest to take place and only used non-lethal means to break up the protest if they became violent. Students were met with tear gas, water cannons and finally a 'sound cannon' newly imported from an allied nation. Four protesters were injured by falls or physically assaulting police. One police officer was injured by a thrown rock. Student leaders vowed to continue to put pressure on the government for new Presidential elections and moves towards a peaceful reunification with the Soviet States."

The images of street violence dissolved back into a close up of the anchorwoman in Zostar.

"In other news, Prime Minister Valentina Borofsky called a press conference an hour ago announcing that the Karshkovian Air Command had sunk a ship that fired upon and killed several Karshkovian Coastal Defense Force Inspectors during a routine inspection."

The image of the anchorwoman cut away to a new image of a large freighter at sea.

"Last night the Rawal Kah, a 150m long 4200 tonne ocean freighter, entered territorial Karshkovian waters without permission, bound for port in Volograd. The Karshkovian Coastal Defense Force was alerted by coastal radar stations that an unknown ship was approaching the Karshkovian city of Volograd. It was not listed for arrival and had ignored all requests to identify itself."

An image of a Coastal Defense patrol ship flashed on the screen.

"The Coastal Defense Patrol ship Kunsan was able to stop the freighter after repeated requests by radio, amplified audio, and finally a warning shot fired across its bow. Inspectors bordered the Rawal Kah and began by questioning the captain while other inspectors searched the ship for contraband. It is reported that the ship's hold was stacked with shipping containers filled with packaged heroin and cocaine with an estimated weight of over 1.5 metric tons. Some packaged drugs were taken back to the Kunsan for evidence. The Karshkovian Government then ordered the Rawal Kah, under escort from naval warships, into Volograd's ports. The crew took up arms and killed five inspectors, then tried to escape into international waters."

A video is now shown of a black and white IR camera, obviously military in nature, of a large white ship on a black ocean. White streaks flow up from the ship towards the camera, which then tilts and pulls away from the ship

"Military helicopters filled with Karshkovian Spetsnaz were deployed by the Karshenko, an Udaloy-II Class Guided Missile Destroyer, to take control of the ship and its crew. The helicopters encountered light anti-aircraft fire from the ship and were forced to maintain their distance."

A new video clip shows military aircraft taking off from a coastal runway, then cuts to video of the aircraft in flight.

"With the ship's repeated attempts to shot down Karshkovian helicopters, the Karshkovian Air Command launched two ground-based MiG-23BNs which were armed with 57 mm rocket pods, 500 kg free falling bombs, and Kh-23 radio-guided missiles.

Ten hours after being boarded, the Karshkovian Navy issued it's final warning to the drug ladened ship, demanding it stop to be boarded which was ignored. The Karshkovian Air Command authorized the use of weapons and the MiG-23s released their fugasnaya aviatsionnaya bomba-500 to sink the ship."

Video of the attack and destruction of the ship was now shown. (http://youtube.com/watch?v=4mUZ4zgvAvE)

"The FAB-500s hit the ship as shown, however it continued to slowly drift towards international waters, and the Karshkovian Navy Command authorized the Karshenko to fire two SS-N-22 anti-ship missiles into the illegal drug ship. The first 320kg warhead is believed to have exploded in the main hold of the ship, breaking its back. The second missile is believed to have hit the engine room of the Rawal Kah , stopping the ship. It sank inside Karshkovian waters five minutes later. No survivors were found though naval ships remained in the area for two hours after the sinking. The ship's registry retrieved during the inspection reveled it had a crew of 136, however the captain of the Rawal Kah had struck the flag of the ship and destroyed all documents pertaining to which government the ship was registered to."

The video switched back to the anchorwoman at the news desk.

"In a later statement, President Vladimir Radchenko emphatically stated that the ship had trespassed into Karshkovian waters, was holding over 1.5 tons of illegal drugs destined for sale in Karshkovia, had attacked and killed five Coastal Defense Inspectors, fired on Karshkovian Naval aircraft and refused to give way to Naval ships. He considered the orders given by his military commanders to be fully within their rights and duties, and had acted appropriately."

A clip from the President's press conference.

"Karshkovia is sending a clear message to the international drug trafficking community on how we will deal with those trying to subvert our national laws. We do not distribute or sell our state-grown marijuana to any nation where it is illegal and we expect the same curtsy in return. Any attempt to bring illegal drugs into our nation will result in a repeat of today's events. If drug laden ships enter Karshkovian waters, they will be sunk."

The screen switched back to the reporter

"This is the second time in six months that the Karshkovian military has sunk a ship that was confirmed to have large amounts of drugs bound for Karshkovia, and the third time this year overall. Early today, the men and women of the Kunsan and the Karshenko were all awarded combat-action ribbons for the performance of their duties dealing with international drug traffickers."

"Commander Ivanova, the air-warfare co-ordinator on the Karshenko, was awarded the Karshkovian Navy's Commendation Medal for "heroic achievement," noting her "ability to maintain her poise and confidence under fire" that enabled her to "quickly and precisely co-ordinate the air-strike and firing of the ship-to-ship SS-N-22 missiles."

"The Karshkovian Cross of Merit, a military decoration of the Karshkovian armed forces that is awarded for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements, was awarded to both Commander Ivanova and Admiral Pulitz along with Captain Dimitri "Lev" Andropov and First Lieutenant Matryonan Bazhukov, the pilots which attacked the Rawal Kah."

"Captain Andropov stated that he prayed for the souls of the men whom died on the Rawal Kah, but would not hesitate to carry out the same commands to destroy a ship carrying drugs. He felt proud that he played a part in keeping the Karshkovian people 'a little safer'"

"Memorial services will be held later this week to honor the fallen men and women of the Kunsan who were murdered by the crew of the Rawal Kah during an inspection of the ship. All will be posthumously awarded the Bronze Cross. President Radchenko and Prime Minister Borofsky both will be attending the memorial services of those fallen."

"The Karshkovian Navy today sank an unknown freighter that attempted to breach it's territorial waters. The Patrol Ship Kunsan of the Karshkovian Navy first sighted the freighter Rawal Kah last night, and after several warnings was able to stop the ship and allow Inspectors to board and inspect it. However, after the inspectors found several packaged bags, of which was later identified as heroin and cocaine, the crew of the Rawal Kah took up arms and murdered five of the inspectors. A pitched battle then broke out, which culminated in the sinking of the Rawal Kah. The U.R.N Destroyer HMS Tintagel, patrolling international waters, filmed these Karshkovian MiG-23's attacking the freighter"

[OOC: Well, my big OOC explanation. Antigr is a kind of Britain-esque nation in a few ways. Being a naval power as opposed to having major land or air commitments, there will be worldwide patrols from territories and the homeland. As such, I'd like to roleplay a military submarine sent to monitor the status of that nuclear thing you set off but this happens halfway through the voyage. I quite like the sound of the China Syndrome RP but my knowledge of anything nuclear is limited at best so I decided not to make a commitment to it. Your thoughts?]

ooc: Antigr, feel free to RP as you wish! The nuclear incident is fairly straight forward. The only issue you may wish to look up is what the lethal doses are if your sub surfaces to exchange air. Honestly, all I did was use a few books I have on the subject and check Wikipedia (evil I know, but it's RP and not a term paper so I figure what the heck, why not) for data. This incident is open to however you want to respond...even up to limited military reactions

"After yesterday's attack on the Rawal Kah, a 150m long 4200 tonne ocean freighter which entered territorial Karshkovian waters without permission ladened with illegal narcotics, there has been no claim made as yet to the nation which registered or owned the freighter. No nation has stepped forward to claim ownership or express outrage at the attack.

"Prime Minister Borofsky has stated that she believes either the nation who owned the freighter knew it has been caught supplying narcotics to nations where those narcotics are illegal, or has decided to take the loss of 136 of it's citizens quietly. Because there has been no outrage, it seems more likely that the nation the ship was registered to and owned by knew of it's illegal activity."

"In a separate statement, President Radchenko made the comment that he hopes this sends a message to those who would bringing illegal narcotics into the Karshkovia. He also stated that on the other hand, the ships do make great target practice for the Karshovian Navy and Air Force and while loss of life is very regretable, entering Karshkovian territory with the express interest in delivering illegal goods is now known to be highly fatal and should deter others from seeking to do the same."

OOC: this is me claiming the freighter

IC:

Montana Inc World Headquarters

Bogota, Mokastana

An emergency board meeting of Montana Incorporated was under way. Apparently the Department of Pharmaceuticals (orange) has allowed a certain shipment to cross into a nation who was aware of its presence. Normally sending a smuggling ship into a nation without papers or a mask was never authorized, and now Antonio Montana wanted to know who had allowed such a thing to occur. All eyes were on the Departments Chair.

"Damn it, Who the hell authorized this operation without the proper papers??"

"My vice chair authorized the black shipment. His research lead him to believe the government would be to busy with the radiation poisoning to notice this. After all-"

"Shut up! You allowed an unarmed ship to illegally enter Karshkovian waters carrying millions of dollars of illegal funds. Do you know who those funds effect? The Defense Department! How else do you think we pay for their equipment?"

"It wasnt me Sir, I-"

"Shut up," into a phone, "Get me the vice chair of Pharmacy orange."

After a long couple of minutes in the Board of Directors office on the 39th Floor of the World Headquarters building, glass shattered down the side of the building towards a vacant part of the campus. Following close behind was a Chair, and his Vice, both who had turned in their resignation.

"One hundred thirty seven lives, what the hell were they doing on that boat? It was suppose to be drugs and drugs only!"

"Sir, it turns out that your vice Chair of Pharmaceuticals Orange was also running slave labor, under the table."

Antonio stood straight up, you could see in his eyes the insanity building up. Drugs was one thing, people paid to get high, it was a service, but slaves. No one dealt in slaves, not ever and not with Montana's name on the side of the ship.

"WHO THE FUCK KNEW ABOUT THIS? GET ME EVERY MOTHER FUCKER WHO FUCKING KNEW THIS FUCKING SHIT WAS FUCKING HAPPENING! I WILL HANG THEM MYSELF!"

As Montana went on storm upstairs loading his personal assault rifle down a few floors an operations team was underway on how to rebuild the shipments and get them in ASAP.

What they came up with was this....

A supply plane was to be loaded up with drug goodies, and flown near the radiation zone, it will be called "relief supplies" by your friends at Montana Inc.

It will be "hijacked"

then the drugs will be distributed over a certain area before the plane is re-taken over by the crew.

It continues on its normal course and delivers a smaller load of relief supplies, since the plan lost some.

Now to just find that contact again.

Nicoli vaguely remembered going to this nation once, a while back when a similar incident took place, or that might have just been a routine customer visit. He could not remember, so he sent the email to the contact in Karshkovia discussing important business matters that he would have delivered by courier due to the sensitivity of the material. That was usually a hint that the job was illegal.

As he hit send Antonio came down the stairs waving at Nicoli to get his attention. In front of the chest of Montana's million Dollar Business suit was his new weapon, a XM29 OICW (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XM-29).

"Come on Nicoli, we got some Hazas to take care of."

Nicoli always did love the hunt.

103 Nautical Miles East-South-East of the Karshkovian City of Pechora

Captain Sentzke was sat down in the metal-framed seat in the corner of the sail, or conning tower, staring blankly up at one of the toughened LCD monitors that made up the room. 100-odd miles off the Karshkovian east coast and radiation readings were already rising rapidly. The Pontevik, a nuclear hunter-killer submarine of the 2nd Oceanic Fleet on patrol in international waters, had been sent to monitor the situation, and a small communique had been sent to them, informing them of the submarine's presence.
"Steady at periscope depth"
"Very well. Raise radar and communications masts"
The standard half-hourly check for radar contact or new orders was a boring and seemingly pointless exercise, something that annoyed Sentzke - he was supposed to be asleep in his bunk at the moment, but instead was required, courtesy of red tape, to be on the alert for new orders. His communications officer broke his thoughts.
"One minute gone, no communications, no radar contact"
"Retract masts and dive to forty metres in thirty - "
"Wait a minute...incoming transmission, encrypted level five. Recieved"
"Scrap that order, remain at periscope depth"
It was a mildly tense fifteen seconds while the message was decrypted by the submarine's computer systems. It was more tense when the communications officer read out the transmission to the captain, who rose to his feet with haste and grabbed the print-out to see for himself.
- Sattelites picked up ship under attack from naval vessels just outside Karshkovian waters. Ship returning fire, sunk. Coordinates attached, report to area and investigate, priority two -
"Bloody hell..."

The Captain sat down again in his seat while the conning tower was totally quiet around him, anticipating an order. He was alone with his thoughts again, and it was a minute, a very long minute, before he spoke again.
"Turn to bearing two hundred thirty relative to our current position, dive to a hundred and thirty metres, both turbines full ahead together, we should make the fifty miles in about an hour and twenty minutes"
The green and red lights above one of the control panels flashed alternately, signialling a change in engine output as the officer of the watch moved the twin turbine control levers up to the FULL AHEAD position, just below the red-labelled 'ahead flank'. The submarine began to turn sharply as it rolled to port by several degrees. In the engine room, a bell rang and a small screen began flashing the words FULL AHEAD, or at least its translation in Antigran. A man picked up a radio mouthpiece and spoke loudly.
"Engine room, be advised we will be answering a full bell, all ahead full"
The two massive metal shafts began to rotate much faster now and the water-jets surged as the submarine's speed jumped from ten to thirty-one knots. Things were rolling.

170 Nautical Miles East-South-East of the Karshkovian City of Pechora
DDG-149 "Sagittarius" - Udaloy II destroyer, Karshkovian Navy

Captain Belachas rubbed the back of his neck and rolled his head to relieve the tired ache in his neck muscles. His ship had provided an escort for the newest addition to the Karshkovian Navy, the SSV-49. It was a large ship, its hull derived from a nuclear powered Kirov-class battlecruiser. In addition to its role as a fleet flagship, the SSV-49 would serve in electronic intelligence, missile tracking, space tracking, and communications relay roles.

He had wished his ship had been nearby when the sister ship to the Sagittarius, DDG-101 the "Karshenko", had sunk that freighter. A little real action, even if they had not been ordered to fire, would have been a great teaching tool for his crew. Ah, well, such is life.

It had not been more that 10 hours after he had made port and given his crew shore leave when the order came to cancel all leave and get his ass to some nameless spot in the ocean far outside of Karshkovia's territorial waters.

Once he had reached the location, a new set of orders for his eye's only stated their mission was now to observe and record radiation counts from possible fallout generated from the Karshkovian Fast Breeder Reactor that had gone super-critical. He broke this news to the crew as best he could, many of his young sailors were from or had family and friends from Pechora, and ordered the ship sealed and the NBC warfare defense systems activated. Outside door and hatches were tightly sealed, and the rule of thumb was now to seal any hatch internally that was not of immediate use. Outside air-ducts that brought fresh air into the ship were shut tight and new ducts equipped with NBC air filters were opened. High-pressure air pumps made sure that the ship had positive pressure internally; any and all air leaks would be going out, not into the ship. Radiation detectors all over the ship - inside and out - normally in standby were now operating normally.

The down side of this meant that the men were not allowed outside, nor were they allowed to smoke anywhere other than specially designated areas in the ship. This, coupled with the news of Pechora, the intangible danger of the invisible monster, radiation, and the cancelled shore leave moral was low. Unlike some other captains, Belachas believed moral was the life blood of a navy ship. Low moral meant that men were not focused on their jobs thus they were not prepared to handle an emergency with top efficiency. To counter this, he had instructed the cooks to serve the men some of the officers' food and offer ice cream and other treats that normally were reserved for special occasions. Steak, spare ribs, BBQ chicken, Corn on the cob, and other much anticipated food items were set for midday and nightly meals. The commissary had slashed prices on cigarettes, and the captain had authorized the communication center to set up a relay network to pipe in mainland state-run TV and radio stations so off-duty personnel could use the televisions in the lounge areas and keep abreast of the latest news. It was a limited risk as the state-run stations would be well aware of the images and news stories they ran, and the affect on their viewers.

It was the early dawn hours; the sky to the east was just starting to lighten and the next scheduled shift change was a few hours away. Belachas had just run his final circuit of the bridge, checking on his people in the nerve center of the ship. Looking at his watch, he was debating whether to leave his First Officer in charge of the bridge and head down to his state-room to finish some paper work or to stay on the bridge and put off the paper work as long as possible.

In a dimly lit room, Sonarman First Rank Mikhail Borisovich listened to his passive sonar array aboard the "Sagittarius", and cursed repeatedly his luck at being recalled from shore leave.

Mikhail was no longer a wet-behind-the-years academy graduate. His last assignment had been the "Sagittarius’s sister ship, "Odin" and there he had his first taste of combat after the sinking of the "KarshkaMAX". After the Odin had laid into port, Mikhail had received a promotion for his part in detecting the hostile sub. While the Odin's Captain sat before a review committee, Mikhail had been transferred to the Sagittarius when one of her more seasoned crew members had come down with appendicitis.

Unlike the Odin, the crew was mainly made up of Karshkovian citizens, born and raised in Karshkovia. It didn't bother Mikhail at all, though he did miss the diversity at times.

Mikhail's CO from the Odin had transferred to the Sagittarius as well. A former Stoklomolvi naval Lieutenant Second Class who was fair but firm with his men when on duty, but was not adverse to playing poker with the rest of his men off duty. Mikhail liked him and often would ask many questions on and off duty to learn all the wisdom his CO had to share from his years as a Sonar Operator himself.

Since the sinking of the KarshkaMAX, Karshkovia had undergone more changes; due in no small part to the nation of Stoklomolvi's international aid, the country's infrastructure was now totally renovated and modernized from the decaying ex-soviet area equipment and buildings to state-of-the-art western designs. The President's new "Green Plan", while only receiving a luke-warm reception from the people, had created new jobs and electric wires now ran to even the most remote village and hamlet. New dams and green power stations were being built while the roads had been repaved and now every willing person given a right to free college educations.

The military was not exempt from this overhaul either. Military academies were rebuilt and modernized, with the best foreign teachers money could persuade. Some equipment was modernized, while other state-of-the-art teaching tools and simulators were now available. Over two years ago the Navy received its first Nimitz-Class aircraft carrier, and naval pilots were now doing day and night trapping with a nearly flawless safety record. The newest Nimitz carrier had arrived not more than three months ago, and was now out on its first deployment in the south Pacific.

Unlike the Odin which was literally eight months out of the shipyard when he was assigned to it, the "Sagittarius" was a well used, smooth operating ship. The crew was well aware of any quirks and knew how to work the ship to her maximum efficiency.

Mikhail still had the habit of absently chewing on plastic toothpicks as he listened to the ocean noise all around him via the passive sonar. Though the Sagittarius' sister destroyer, the "Karshanko" was nearly fifty kilometers away to the west, her dual-shaft screws were still audible even with an expanse of ocean between the destroyers. Unlike the Karshanko, the Sagittarius sat silently in the water, using quiet water jets located under the water-line to stay in position.

Mikhail missed listening to the pod of humpback whales he was so familiar with. They swam off the south coast of Karshkovia near Volograd but now that he was assigned to the Sagittarius, he rarely was in the waters where his large friends swam. During his time on the Odin he had become so familiar with the pod that he was able to pick out individual whales through their calls. He even had taken to giving each their own unique names, and made tapes of their songs. A professor who taught underwater sounds of Marine life and how to differentiate that from artificially created noises at the Naval Academy was the person who introduced Mikhail to the sounds of the whales. As a thank you gift, Mikhail had taken the tapes he made of the whales and when he was off-duty, he transcribed the tapes, indicating which whale was singing during each minute of the tape. He sent these tapes to the professor whom he was told was ecstatic over each tape sent. Unfortunately, there had been no whale pods in the Sagittarius' operational area and as such, he had no more tapes to send.

As he replaced a well chewed toothpick with a fresh one from a 100-count box he carried with him while on duty, a sound, barely audible, stirred Mikhail from his thoughts. He leaned forward and adjusted the pitch of his headset input, reset some noise filters to block out the surface noises and listened again.

"Got something, Mikhail?"

Mikhail looked up to see his CO, Anatoly Yakovlevich, watching him intently.

"I'm not sure", Mikhail said slowly as he reset the gain controls, "perhaps...a swish of something far off but ..... I lost it"

Anatoly plugged his set of phones into the console and listened, his eye's shut as he concentrated for the sound. After a few minutes he started to take off the phones when he heard it...a very faint, low frequency swishing. He first thought it may be a whale far off, swimming at a quick pace but the swishing was too rhythmic and whales were very rare in this part of the ocean.

Mikhail's hands flew over the sonar computers, marking the noise and setting the beginnings of a track, "I have it, sir! There it is again. Very faint."

"I hear it to. Run it through the computer and see what you can find."

"Aye Aye sir, already on it."

While Mikhail ran the sound through the computer's memory banks for a match, Anatoly called up to the bridge to inform the command crew.

"Con, Sonar, new contact Bearing Three-Five-One, designate contact number Sierra one four."

"Sonar, Con aye. Contact Sierra one four. Designation?" Captain Belachas answered back after reaching the com set.

"Distant underwater contact, possible submerged submarine." Anatoly referred to the information on the console, "Sir, the computer is not able to determine speed or heading as she is too far out or running too deep and silent to get a fix. She's not listed in the computer's database of known sub types but given it's not a prop-driven sub, it narrows the list of suspects."

"Sonar, con aye. Keep an open ear and let me know when you have its heading and speed. We are in open international waters so keep an eye on it." Captain Belachas switched off the connection and turned to his First Officer, "Keep an eye on that sub. I'll be in my stateroom and anything short of the outbreak of War or a direct attack on the ship, I'd like not to be disturbed for the next eight hours."

"Aye Aye, Captain" the First Officer said with a slight grin.

"And Bill, no brush-fire wars or border squabbles."

The First Officer chuckled, "Aye, sir. Only in the event of major wars."

Captain Belachas smiled and patted his First Officer's shoulder as he turned and walked off of the bridge, "Good man, Bill."

[OOC: I remember the last time something like that was posted that I can remember, I replied and it turned out it had nothing to do with me. Not a good omen for this time, eh? A slight modification you may want to make is that medium-sized Antigran SSKs and SSNs, as well as anything larger, have two smaller pump-jet propulsors as opposed to a single propeller. I really wish I had more time in which to make better posts. One last note - I'm sorry I didn't phrase it clearer, but your government will know of an Antigran submarine making observations through means of a somehow invisible communique - wink, wink - so you might wish to have your men in boats latch on to that at some point. Sorry 'bout that]

The Karsvik-Class submarine's black hullform moved near-silently through the water, the huge pressures exhibited by the depth of 210 metres unrelenting but unaffecting, the supremely strong double outer hull and many seperate inner hulls not complaining. The Karsvik-Class were Antigr's latest class of submarine, possibly the most advanced in the way of computer power. Most of the subs only had their computer systems fitted one or two years ago, almost five years after the first batch of subs were ready. Sitting in front of one of these computers was a Warrant Officer, with a seaman either side. He would usually be standing up behind them but further red tape required that all officers be as able to work seemingly basic equipment as the seamen allocated to those areas, and the reason his face was adorned by the light reflections of two massive LCD monitors, as well as the further three either side. His head propped up on his arm, he studied the endless mass of the ocean through the cyber goggles through which it was presented for any sign of life. Nothing. Not even fish.
"Sir?"
He leant back in his chair and observed the screen of the man to his right.
"Problem?"
"I had a contact, it's dissapeared"
There was a long pause, during which the Warrant Officer took a long gulp from his cup of tea.
"There it is again, bearing nought-nought-four relative to our current position. Weak contact, maximum effective range of our sonar"
"Towed array?"
"Yep"
In a slow but fluid movement, the seaman picked up a mouthpiece and flicked several switches to connect him to the sail.
"Conn, sonar, sonar contact, again, sonar contact, bearing nought-nought-four relative, nought-nought-nine actual, strength weak, speed undetermined, depth undetermined, probably zero from the readings we have, looks like a surface ship of considerable size"
"Roger, sonar, conn, probable Karshkovian vessel as sighted not far from here two hours ago as per sattelite. Keep us informed, good work"

The men took a distinct liking to the watch officer. For one thing, he praised his fellows, and managed to take the best of things with ease, up to a salvo of anti-ship cruise missiles from the last Colstreami war from which he and his sub were lucky to escape. The man himself was on the bridge, talking to the captain.
"Should we tell them who we are and why we're here? I'm sure they'll be weary of intruders"
"Only if prompted. This has become a matter of interest to the ministry of defence, and as such, is somewhat a secret. Besides, if they do declare war..."
He smiled and picked a banana from the out-of-place fruit bowl standing on a metal desk.
"...They've got the most to lose"

ooc: no problem. I made some slight corrections to my post. In my next one when they get a fix on the exact sub-model I'll intro the information on our government knowing you were to be in the area :)

HMS Jonathan Byrnes (DDGN-77)
205 nautical miles SE of Pechora, Karshkovia

The Byrnes had been deployed by the Admiralty to monitor the recent failure of a Karshkovian nuclear reactor. As the Commonwealth had no real interests in the region the response in Brayton had been rather lethargic. As a result it had taken several days for a ship to be dispatched and even then it was only one ship. The irony of selecting of a nuclear powered Type 46 (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13684904&postcount=157) destroyer for the patrol was apparently quite amusing to the bureaucrats who'd ordered the deployment. However, amused was not the proper word to describe the current mindset of Commander Sir Simon Barker, CO of the Byrnes, Barker had little love for this region of the world and even less for his current mission. Instead of chasing pirates or putting the Fear of God and the Crown into tinpot dictators foolish enough to defy the Commonwealth, he was stuck near Europe monitoring the growing plume of radioactivity generated by the failure of the Karshkovians ancient Soviet shitheap they called a reactor. The Commonwealth had utilized nuclear energy on a large scale for over sixty years and they had an almost flawless safety record. The only saving grace was that the Government hadn't committed the Commonwealth to cleaning up this mess, all he had to do was keep an eye on things and make sure they didn't get too out of hand.

[OOC: One thing that I feel happens too often on NS in these kind of RPs is that there is too many military ships. Now, with three 'sides', there should be more civilian ships. No guilt on my part, though]

OOC: Antigr, are you suggesting that some civilians should get caught in the crossfire?

also, Karsh, do you have a buyer in your nation to respond to the courier? or at least give me an idea of where he should end up at.

IC:

Office of the Director for Human Resources, Pharmaceutical Orange Department

The World Headquarters campus had information for every nation that Montana Inc operated in. Buyers, sellers, industries that relied on Montana, and every detail down to a list of Dockworkers at every Pier they owned.

However that didn't meant that the local area didn't need some one running the show as well. On the North side of the Campus was the Local and Regional Headquarters. With offices and meeting halls for the lower level operators of the company. One of these offices was the HR department for Sur Region, of Pharmaceutical Orange. Two large oak doors lead into a walkway up to a massive desk with files and pillars on both sides. A little lavish for a regional director, but when the first explosive blew in the oak doors and forced the Director to hide behind his desk, it became apparent that steel is better at stopping bullets then wood.

"Come on out, I know you know about running slaves in my company!"

A sprat of bullets into the pillars and bullet proof window was fired more out of anger then attempt to kill. Behind Antonio stood Nicoli, with twin custom Automatic shotguns.

"Antonio you have gone mad! I am innocent!"

"Bullshit! I found the Chairs files I know who is involved!"

"You don't know everyone!" The director yelled from behind his desk, quietly loading the small sub machine gun.

"Who else is involved?"

"Everyone Antonio!" he said with a sudden confidence in his voice, "Hell the Chair of HR even formed a position for the slave trade, Director of HR International Beta!"

Quietly Antonio told Nicoli to find him, and to get Paramilitary Battalion Jericho onto the campus, since they were the ones head up by Antonio's private head of security. If the conspiracy was as big as it sounded. He would need more guns. Suddenly the director jumped up aiming and firing the gun blindly towards the door. Antonio dove and fired one High explosive straight into the Director's chest, blowing out the glass behind him and sending flaming body parts raining down from the office window.

Meanwhile in Karshkovia

The couriers plan was landing somewhere in the recently radioactive country. He was unsure of what was to come, but he knew the buyer would be waiting for him at the airport, hopefully two bodyguards would be enough.

ooc: I'll let you run the buyer if you wish, I'll focus on the Karshkovian ships/military trying to stop drug smuggling. The buyer doesn't have to be of Karshkovian blood with the great influx of immigrants we have. If you do want to run a Karshkovian citizen, feel free to review my semi-updated fact book listed in my sig. That should give you a feel for the nation :)

Antigr - I agree with your thoughts and that's why I limited myself to one destroyer. For my part, Karshkovia will not bring in any more naval ships than that one destroyer and to be honest, it kinda is like a Character RP with a single ship instead of a single character. For the actual airdrop shipment, it's going to be fairly limited in my part to a couple of citizens, and maybe a squad of regular military soldiers. Nothing fancy or unique on my part. I'll keep it fairly realistic with limited numbers. Karshkovia doesn't have satillites yet, and we have yet to launch our first one let alone any spy sats so I'll play it up like that.

Now, if someone new (or current) wishes to play an unaffilliated smuggling ship (you don't have to play it as having any connection to your country if you wish), that would give our naval RP some extra spice.

TO ALL: I'll be leaving this weekend for a writing convention and will not have net access. If I don't respond to your posts until Monday, please do not think that I have abandoned the RP. I'm just getting ready for the event and packing/getting things arranged for my absense.

OOC: that is a great idea, but since I am the one exporting the drugs it is obvious my guys can import and export without to much government intervention.

So who wants to blow up a freighter of mine?
