The Emperor, whose identity has been concealed from all except those who appointed him, is now seeking a marriage to another of royal blood to cement his power. He had a bloodline leading back to the days before the Republic, making him a legitimate royal blood leader of Ascelonia. Sitting on his throne while many plotted to kill him was quite unnerving. He realized he needed an heir and a wife. The two together would unite his people and consolidate his control of the nation. The only question was who was worthy of bearing his children?

Many of the Royal Ascelonian families had died out or had been murdered or killed during the Two Great Wars. The remnants of the Royal Blood Ascelonian Families were a ghost of what they used to be. Most were either lower class or had left the country. The whole idea of marrying back into Royal Blood from his own country was preposterous. The only others left would be his blood relatives. Such a practice had not occurred in thousands of years and he shuddered to think of it. He pondered and wrote a letter to seek out a wife.

Notes: Princess Helen Thales is the youngest daughter of King Cleomenes XVIII and Queen Helen who have reigned as the titular monarchs for several years under the auspieces of the Platonists. Out of three girls, Helen is well known as an all star tennis player who has played in various tournaments over the years with many awards under her belt. She is a direct paternal descendant from both Cleomenes, the founder of the Kingdom of Aresium and Caligula who was one of the many Emperors to rule over Ancient Rome while she descends maternally from an aristocratic family with roots stretching back to Ancient Greece. She is both fertile and free of all STDs.

The tones of the gong and zither filled the hall as the tumblers launched through the air, giving way to heavily costumed actors strutting about the stage. It was a traditional Imperial opera about the war between the the King of Serasarda and the last ruler of the ancient Bajeong state in the 5th century BCE, and part of an art form that had flourished in the Namubae Empire before it had been subsumed into the Republic of Snefaldia in 1907.

This was the palace of the Emperors of Namubae, who had ruled the region of Bae for almost 100 years, and it remained in the hands of the Imperial clan of Niuhuru as the clan seat. The performance today was to honor Niuhuru, the Imperial Princess Genggiyenšu, who was the great-great granddaughter of the last official Emperor of Bae. She hailed from the Ambalinggū line of the Niuhuru Clan, which was most closely related to the Imperial family itself.

The play stopped, and polite applause followed. The patriarch of the family, Elder Prince Ambalinggū Sibeoci, nodded his head as a page murmured in his ear.

"An excellent performance, truly excellent. Is my granddaughter please with the show?"

The daughter, sitting at a place of honor on the third level of the raised dais, bowed her head with proper respect.

"Yes, my Honorable Grandfather. The show is most pleasing."

Inwardly, she cursed the old man. She was 21 years old and a young woman being educated privately, and yet she yearned for the freedom other Bajeong girls had. Her cousins, notably her cousin Abahai, absolutely despised the "lower classes" of people and their habits, and had tried to get her to appreciate the wealth and distinction of her Imperial lineage. It was a contradiction- a noble family clinging to the last vestiges of their royalty in an era where the popular philosophies were democracy and equality.

Her grandfather interrupted her thoughts. "My granddaughter is pensive. Come, sit and speak with me a while."

She rose with due diligence and ascended the silk-draped steps to the throne where her grandfather sat, and rested on a stool prepared by a servant.

"My dear granddaughter, I know you have never enjoyed these sorts of displays. You are not like your cousins." he raised a hand to silence her. "No, let me speak. We will not sit on ceremony. I know you do not care for me or my ways. I am a creature of my father's making, full of spite at the loss of our rule, it is true. I freely admit it. But there is a chance you have to become more than a provincial aristocrat, clinging, as they say in the papers, to a forgotten way of life."

She shook her head, the jewels of her elaborate crown shaking and twinkling. "I do not understand."

"You are of that age, my dear, when you must look for a husband."

The Imperial Prince paused, waiting for a response, and he ran his fingers through his white beard.

"You already know what I am going to suggest."

"Yes, Honored Grandfather."

He sighed, putting his hand on her knee. The rest of the family pretended to look uninterested, but it was quite clear the cousins and scions of the other family lines were incredibly interested in what their venerable patriarch was telling the princess. For him to take such a conciliating and fatherly pose was quite unusual.

"You think me an old-fashioned monster, but I will tell you that I will not force anything upon you. You must meet this man first, and it may well that he does not love you or think you suitable, even if you are the most suitable and lovely of all his choices."

He paused, and she stared at the ground.

"This is the new era, and unlike when I was young things have changed. If you find him repulsive, and do not love him, you will have your freedom to choose. As long as I am alive it will be so."

She nodded, and kissed her grandfather's sleeve. Inside, she boiled with fear and questions, however, and no further operas would do to change that fear.

The Imperial House of Niuhuru, heirs to the Dragon Throne of Bae, offer the companionship of the Imperial Princess Genggiyenšu to Ascelonian Emperor his consideration.

She is 21 years of age, and claims citizenship in the States-Federation of Snefaldia, the region of Bae. The clan of Niuhuru and the Princesses' family line of Ambalinggū hold the closest right to the titular throne of Bae. Though the official government does not recognize the right of the family to rule Bae, we still hold descent from the legitimate Imperial government of Bae, annexed in 1907 by the Republic.

As this is the modern day, Her Imperial Highness is given every right to refuse the marriage is she finds it unpalatable; this offer is considered a filial duty for Her Imperial Highness and she is given full rights to decline or accede to the Emperor's requests.
