The Federation Flag

Description (Planet and remaining system) : Dius Fidus Prime II is nearly tidally locked planet that usually is half is covered in severe heat/light and other side is always cold/dark. Only the area between the two is still habitable,(this occurred fairly recently), the Planet is currently .8 AU away from its home star a G4 star. The Planet is currently 1.4 radius(of Earth) or 8919.4 kilometers, it is abit denser than earth, making the gravity 1.6x the Earths, There are 2 other rocky planets and 4 gas giants in the system, Dius Fidus also has 2 moons, one fairly big(about 35% of the planet's mass) and one much smaller(only about 8%). The Dius Fidus Prime's Atmosphere is currently 73% nitrogen, 18% oxygen, 2% argon, 0.38% carbon dioxide, trace amounts of other gases, and a variable amount (average around 2%) of water vapor. The Orbital period of DF Prime is 325 (earth) days

(Races):There are two sentient species on DFP 2, one larger(about 2 meters on average, and 135 kg), stronger(can lift 2x their own weight while on home planet), smarter, and longer lived(about 110 Earth years) reptilian race the Fiduses, and a smaller(average of 1.45 meters tall, weaker(only lift 1x their weight on average) ,dumber yet faster mammalian like race, the Diuses that has just recently(as in 20 generations, both races have long memories, and hold grudges for along time) been granted its freedom from an unjustified slavery due to a violent rebellion by the Diuses. Both races are bipedal, the reptilian branch has 16 digits and the mammalian has 20 digits. The two races have built several interplanetary probes/spaceships, they have visited the larger of their respective moons, and are currently planning to visit the other. They have also sent probes to the surrounding rocky planets, and know of the asteroid belt around 2 AU.
Current Population estimates: Fiduses 125 million and 300 million Diuses, if the teraforming projects work both species expect to at least double these numbers in a hundred years.

(Government): The two species elect members to a plantery government, the species elect to different legislatives, the chief executive position (held till death) is currently available to both races, currently a Fidus Nyx serves. The judicial system is also available to both species now, the highest court currently has 7 fiduses and 4 disues.

Main Power Source(s) A Majority of the Power(about 65%) is produced by the Nuclear fusion of "heavy water" which is slowly declining for plantery power but increasing for space flights, most of the rest is either produced by solar power on the almost always light side or wind power from the constant winds between the light and dark sides. Matter-Antimatter power is currently being researched by both species, so far only one test station has created more power than required to make the antimatter and store it.

Terraforming There are currently several projects under development to divert some of the main stars rays onto the dark side of the planet to increase the livability of that side. So far no project has gotten off the drawing board.

Other Information Recent digs on the light side and dark side have shown that there was at one time at least one other sentient race on Dius Fidus Prime II, these sentients seemed to have dispeared right when Dius Fidus Prime II started to tidally lock, due to the levels of tech found at these sites there has been much debate if these "Ancients" left Dius Fidus Prime II to explore/colonize other planets or just died out.

WMD Both species have agreed to and signed treaties to destroy biological and chemical weapons, the nuclear arsenal was also cut severely after the rebellion from a estimated 100,000 to a total of 100 now mostly used to divert any asteriods if nothing else would work and incase of other emergencies.

Technology
The current technology level of the two species is estimated to be what an Earthian early 22st century tech level would be ie quantum computers, controllable high temp fusion, 'humanoid' robots, 'manned' space flight to nearby planets/moons,etc.

The two grey things are DF Prime's moons, the yellow is the primary star, and the big purple thing is the planet(not drawn to scale of course).

The Federation is a type I civilization(uses all the resource of its homeworld)(has been for the past 100 years) and is quickly trying to reach a solar system spanning one, the federation has currently identified all Prime II crossing asteroids 500 meters or larger, and has the capability to completely deflect any such asteroid up to 6 months before impact.

Trinno

The Federations main energy source:

Trinno is a highly radioactive substance found on DF Prime III, current surveys indicate that just about 1% of the planets mass is this substance, but most of it is over 27 km down. The current amounts are harvested from one crater in the light side of the planet. Scans of the remaining planets in the DF system show that Prime III is the only one with Trinno within 100 km of the surface, several asteroids have been shown to be greatly rich in Trinno, current efforts are in the work to start harvesting on the largest one. It is known for its extreme energy producing and mutagenic properties.

Many unshielded life forms exposed to Trinno radiation expire within minutes. Subjects exposed to Trinno over long periods of time may suffer mental breakdown(s). This affects the mind, driving the subject to the point of mental instability and enraging them against all other lifeforms.

Although Trinno was first thought solely as a dangerously radioactive destructive substance, further experiments proved that it could unleash massive amount of energy under controlled situations. Most Trinno is green in color, except for the much more potent light blue variation which is only 1% of the known Trinno, whose radiation and mutagetic levels far exceed the normal Trinno. Trinno exists in many phases. It is most commonly found as Trinno ore, appearing as a network of green veins and crystal-like sacs. A more concentrated form of Trinno is known as liquid Trinno, liquid Trinno takes on the traits of a dense gel.

Trinno releases unique energy in the form of Trinno radiation. Exposure to any amount of Trinno radiation can be deadly. Most bioforms in direct contact with Trinno ore/liquid die within minutes. Even living within an area with high Trinno concentration can be fatal over time. However due to the main source being on the light side of Prime III, these effects don't surface often. However, bioforms with prolonged Trinno exposure that do not die are mutated horribly. Exposure to Trinno radiation destroys brain cells and cognitive thought in sentient beings. Trinno can also be used as an energy source.

Current Mining of Trinno is done by robotic miners, and any sentient contact with the Trinno is kept to a minim. Currently Trinno is used to power spaceships,mechs/suits and other such technology that is large enough to provide room for shielding. The current way to shield from the Trinno Radiation is a shield of lead and tritauim alloy at least 3.23 cms thick. This greatly increases the weight of any technology/vehicle/etc, and lowers the amount of usefulness of the substance.

Timeline:
23 years after federation is formed, Trinno is first discovered, most of the research team quickly dies due to the radiation.
42 AF years: Second Team, that is better shielded discovers that Trinno can be used to power many of their techs, most of the team dies preterm deaths year later.
58 AF: heavy harvesting of Trinno is started.
65 AF: Integration of Trinno into many military applications and spaceflight.

To Summarize, Trinno is a highly radioactive and mutagenic substance that is used by the F&D Federation to power most of its larger technology, it can cause the death of most lifeforms within minutes and can massive brain damage in less time, and as such the F&D Federation heavily regulates the sale, production and use of this substance, but due to its high energy release per volume it is still used in certain situations.

Overview
Realizing that the old fragment grenades were not cutting it anymore in the age of heavy personal armor. The D&F federation poured money and time into designing a grenade for the new battlefield. After adding unstable grey trinno to a carefully mixed blend of explosive ingredients(green trinno and a temporary stabilizing agent) F&D Armory came up with the Trinno detonator. There are several different varieties including a design that is thrown by a soldier(Mark 1), one that is planted in a specific location or on a specific vessel(@), or dropped by a vehicle/spaceship(3). It would then adhere to any metallic object until it detonated in an explosion of radiation and heat when the trinno reacted with the other ingredients due to the trigger releasing a short burst of specially designed energy to react with the trinno causing fusion reaction between the grey trinno and green trinno.

The D-102 Battle Mech

Overview

The D-102 Battle "Mech" is an experimental "suit" that has high end headlights on the front, allows the "wearer" to see higher/lower light frequencies than normal and see up to 100m like its just 10m away, The current weapon systems are two railguns mounted on the "arms", and two lasers on shoulders.

The main drawbacks is that it so far only runs for 4 hours on one charge(if no weapons fired)(if lasers are fired then only about 40 minutes)(uses a combination of fuel cells and a kind of rechargeable battery for weapons fire)(and a trinno fusion reactor for movement)

Battle Armor

Overview
The Federation of D&F saw the need for a new basic infantry armor and attempt to create a future combat suit capable of withstanding the wars of today and tomorrow. The result was the D&F Battle armor. Combining flexibility, protection and communication, and eventually weaponry, the armor allows soldiers to work as one, creating the best possible fighting force available. This combat suit is soon to become the primary combat uniform/armor of the Federation of D&F military.

The Outersuit
The first layer of protection on the suit, it is intended to stop incoming rounds from damaging the wearers vital organs. The Outersuit is composed of overlapping plates of titanium-reinforced, intertwined with carbon nanofibers, ballistic ceramics that protect the vital body parts against most small arms fire and even some heavy fire and are around 15 mm thick in the back, 20 mm in the front and 17 mm in the side.

In order to provide maximum comfort in all situations, a green bodysuit is worn between the armor and the warriors' body. Comprised of several complex fabric blends, the body suit serves to pull moisture away from the body, and expose it at key thermal regulation points of the sentient body (underarms, leg junctions) so as to cool the body quickly. In instances of extreme heat or cold, a cool suit, which runs cold water through a series of sewn-in pipes, or a warm suit, which is thicker and more insulated than the general issue, can be used. . Due to the lack of reinforcement, areas of weakness on the body suit are covered with M5 Fiber and reinforced with carbon-nano fibers.

The Power Supply
The suits power supply consists of a small amount of trinno fuel cells capable of powering all the suits functions for up to one week of non stop operation of all systems, and continuously with refueling of trinno at key points. It is not recommended that all personal take a week of stay after wearing the suit after a month to help purge any radioactive aftereffects.

Helmet

The helmet of the battle armor serves as a vital piece of equipment in the ever-changing battlefield.

The reinforced helmet contains advanced breathing filters, which act as protection against chemical and biological attacks, as well as various toxins. Also, a com is in place for instant communication with other units. The com uses linked encoding sequences to rotate frequencies every 15 seconds while keeping all warriors in the unit synchronized.

The automatic polarizing lenses protect the trooper against intense glare and provide them with enhanced combat vision which allow vision through many barriers such as smoke, darkness and fire. The D&F tech Series III helmet speaker uses three-phase sonic filtering for clear sound (for warriors, it is connected to the audio pickup). It also has a translator for talking to non D&F Warriors.

At the back of the helmet, along the neck region, is a small Personal Cooling Unit, or PCU, can be attached to serve as a small climate control device. Containing a small fan, this machine works on the process of evaporative cooling, and requires only a few grams of cooling fluid for up to 3 hours of continuous high power use.

The power for the helmet is contained inside of the helmet, near the back of the head. It contains enough power for approximately 25 hours of operation without charging, and a back up battery is carried by every warrior. The remaining power supply is found throughout the suit, including the warrior's back.

The Helmet also provides a HUD display, that the warrior can switch to use in low-levels of light, provides data on enemy weaponry and positions, provide information on damage the suit has taken.

Computer
The suit uses two computers, One Wrist mounted personal computer for easy access to information and a main computer processor on the back of the soldier that controls all of the suits functions close enough to the power supply to always get power but far enough to not be corrupted by any leaking radiation. The main computer controls four primary functions: protection systems,environmental systems, fire control, and sensors. The computer is a tablet type computer built into the back of the suit with two triple-core carbon nanotube processors (each core rated at 2.5Ghz), four gigs of carbon nanotube memory, an integral HPU with 1024MHz quadruple channel VRAM, broadband radio networking with virtual key encryption for distributed networking, superdense (trinno)battery sufficient for 22 hours continuous operation, and a armor casing made up of titanium-reinforced ballistic ceramics combined with carbon nano "mesh. The computer and network connections allows data links to all other suits in the area. Computer and acoustic systems can be used to triangulate the location of sniper fire and other weapons.

Dangers: Overusing the suit can lead to radioactivity of owner and eventually death, D&F recommends a maximum of 1 month in armor and a week of rest(at minimum) to neglect most of the danger. If certain key areas are hit, the trinno may become unstable causing the (violent) destruction of the suit and lifeform incased within.

Oxygen tanks can also be added to the suit, to allow vacuum rescues, holds up to 30 minutes of breathable air for Fiduses, 45 minutes for Disuses.

Overview
The D&F Plasma Gun are usually put on tank like vehicles(where the turret has been replaced with the weapon and supporting systems)

Stats
Power Source: 1 fist (or 10 kg) sized chunk of Trinno is usually good for 15 blasts.
Range: About 105 meters at the moment in the atmosphere, due to the magnetic confinement bottle is extended all the way to the target. In Space they have been fired to ~1000 kilometers.
The Weapon has a tendency to overheat, thus being sometimes impractical in certain situations.
Main Gas used:It seems that trinno can be superheated and therefore transformed into a gas then a plasma.(~10^6 K)
Damage: Heat based, can completely disintegrate several sentient(s) with one blast(max has been 6 killed with one really lucky shot), can melt through steel(up to a m thick and within 30 meters

Basic Description:
Energy Weapons use stored up energy that is channeled towards the enemy. Energy Weapons build up heat and take time to recharge before they can be fired again.
Beam Lasers: Beam lasers fire a single beam of energy towards an opponent. The larger the size of the laser the more heat and damage they cause.

F&D current lasers are mostly used to blind sentient enemies, due to the high power costs and the general inaccuracy of laser tech.
Current technology advances are trying to increase the amount of power hitting a target, and the general accuracy.
laboratory tests so far have shown that it is possible to melt several metals(and sentient(s)) with controlled and long term exposer, current advances are looking to decrease the time needed. This line has created the L-012

The L-012 is a solid type laser that has been shown to melt metals/objects up to iron/reinforced steel, at lower settings it has been shown that the L-012, can blind unshielded sentients within acouple of seconds if fired at the eyes.

Space Ships


Z-03 Thunder

General Overview
Noting that the F&D Planetary Defense Force was sagging behind others world's high atmosphere/low space fighters; The D&F PDF ordered the design and production of a new (space) fighter-bomber. Diuses Air came up with the Z-03 Thunder. Its primary role is to take out enemy fighter(s) before they reach D&F atmosphere or attack them in the atmosphere, with a secondary role of taking out enemy landing/beachheads.

"Airframe"

The outer "skin" of the Z-03 is made of Titanium alloy hull, which is used on fuselage, control surfaces, and most of the wings. Carbon fiber-reinforced plastic will cover the rest of the Z-03. This gives a final composition of 65% Titanium; 35% Reinforced Plastics.
The interior supports of the Z-03 are composed of carbon-fiber reinforced Titanium alloy; as are the engine bays and fittings.
Some outer skin helps protect the Ship when it engages in aerial combat within an atmosphere.(some suggestion for some heat shield type of thing? or i could make shields hmm, will post later)

Life Support
Knowing that their space capabilities of the Z-03 would be one of its most important, Diuses Air DefenseWorks designed and built one of the most advance life support systems on the planet, the 203 ALS. Most details are classified(ie i don't really know what a life support system needs at the moment) but it is known that the ALS uses genetically modified algae found naturally in only three areas on F&D to clean out the gaseous exhausts from the pilot and convert it into clean(er) oxygen and a waste product(which i will decide upon later) this algae can provide these services for 3 space flights(ie ~8 hours) and then starts releasing a warning gas(a sulfur compound), then a highly toxic gas when it becomes engorged in carbon dioxide, current research trying to further genetically engineering this algae into not releasing the other gases and/or being able to "pump" out the absorbed c02 upon landing.

FTL Travel and Cargo Ship


Basic Description/overview

After exploring their Solar System the F&D decided that they wanted more and as such they tried to find ways to get around the nasty speed limit that is light. After several failed designs and prototypes and partially destruction of one of f&d moons, they came up with the F&D CS-02. It uses a large chuck(10 clenched fists or 100 kg worth) of a highly unstable grey trinno that tears a rip in space/time (nearly) instantly creating a wormhole from one part of the galaxy to another part within 7 lightyears distance of each other. Then a properly shielded ship can approach and enter the mouth, causing the ship to travel that distance, to which the crew seems to be nearly instantaneous but in the wider universe took a month. While this seemed to be a great way to time travel, further R&D proved that no ship could stand more than 4 trips and that no sentient could survive more than 10 of these max trips, current research can not explain why this is. Further research showed that sentient(s) and ships could take 1 lightyear long travels nearly forever but since it only took the crew 4 days into the 'future' time travel has remained beyond the f&d(for the moment ;) ) during these tests it was shown if the crew was forced to take two trip within 48 hours of each other, that they would be driven insane limiting the drive to very few few uses by sentient(s)(including war and crisis situations) and by robotic probes.

The F&D Cargo Ship
After 'perfecting' their FTL drive, the F&D started to design a ship to use the new drive. After years of R&D they came up with the CS-02.
It is built around the drive with some cargo spaces for trading between systems and as such the crew requirements were lowered as much as possible with robotic/automatic systems taking up most of the slack. Which all equaled only needing one fidus and one dius to be on board for normal operations. To ensure the crew safety, the drive is stored in an ejectable compartment incase something really really bad happens.

Fully armed and dangerous Defender

Due to a first contacts that ended badly(robotic race don't ask ;) ) the F&D decided to create a new warship class, the EHD. These designs failed and failed again until Professor Gxero suggested that they power the ship(s) with trinno. The first prototype after that successfully flew, and the first two EHDs are being produced and are scheduled to be completed within the month.

These are mounted on the dorsal and ventral surfaces of the main hull and the ventral surface of the bow. The two guns on each turret fire in tandem. These large guns are able to use both flak ammunition and high-explosive anti-capital ship shells. Additionally, the guns are able to engage in coordinated barrage strategies, such as salvo and volley fire.

AI
Trying to lower the amount of crew to run the defender, the AI scientists at Federation CO. Heavily modified two F&D Construction yard AIs upgrading the programing to handle the rigors of combat and day to day situations in a battleship.

Carrier Pods
The Carrier pods are mounted on either side of the hull and contain the defender's Thunders and Bombers(that i'll think of later). During normal operations, they are extended away from the main hull. During Wormhole transits, these pods are retracted against the hull, concealing their open ends and making launches and landings impossible.(<ignore for now) Each pod comprises two main decks for flight operations: the upper landing bay, which extends the full length of the pod, and the lower launch bays, which provide some 44 launch tubes per pod.

Landing approaches are made from the stern. The preferred approach is a slow run into the landing bay, prior to making a vertical landing on a defined landing area . However, in emergencies, combat landings can be made, in which a craft approaches and lands at high speed on its landing skids.

The hangar deck is used for maintenance, repair, refueling, rearming, and launch operations and runs the length of the flight pod.

There is a small greenhouse for raising vegetables towards the center of the ship.

Life Support
This ship uses the 203 ALS Mark 2. Most details are classified(ie i don't really know what a life support system needs at the moment) but it is known that the ALS uses genetically modified algae found naturally in only three areas on F&D to clean out the gaseous exhausts(C02 or whatever my races breathe out, hmm) from the ship and convert it into clean(er) oxygen and a waste product that must be disposed of every 2 years or it will start leaking through almost anything and is highly toxic to Fs and Ds. There are approximately fourteen of these systems on the ship with 4 mechanical backups.

Force Field(s)/Shield(s)

The D&F Force Field/Shield is mostly used to/as

1. As a shield (in some cases large enough to cover an entire ship) to protect something from damage by natural forces or enemy attack(mostly this).
2. barrier to allow workers to work in areas that can be exposed to the vacuum of space, keeping the atmosphere inside while allowing certain other objects to pass through.


Overview
Noting the increased dangers space travel intails, The D&F Federation commissioned the designing and building of shields, these fields at first only deflect solar particles but over time have evolved into systems that been shown to remove 70% of the energy impact from energy and kinetic weapons at the expanse of room and power supplies on ships. (if in use increases nearly 30% of the power needed to get from place to place mostly by the need to keep the generator super cooled (around 80 K) or the whole system fails usually explosively this also greatly increases the amount of coolant needed or the ship must be designed with the system touching open space making it easy to hit by weapons fire.)

The basic idea behind the first design was to set up a bubble of (trinno) charged plasma to surround a spacecraft, contained by a very fine mesh of superconducting wire.

After the discovery of trinno the shield design was engineered to use circulating cloud of trinno gases/plasma combo that (that is usually non-interactive with visible light frequencies but does effect ultraviolet frequencies making finding a shielded vessel easy enough if you know what to search for). Raising the shields requires pumping charged trinno gas/plasma combo out into space and then activating the containment(superconducting wire mesh usually) system which causes it to circulate in a controlled fashion about the ship. The containment system even is able to maneuver trinno to increase its density at points of attack. current research is design a shielding that can be used on a planet,all current designs only function in space due to the nature of the constant back and forwardness of a planets atmosphere causes the shielding to lose stopping power quite quickly.

The power genator for the containment field is 3.25 meters by 3.5 meters by 2 meters and uses a highly radioactive and concentration of trinno to power the field; which(the trinno to power the stuff) is about 1 by 1 by 2 meter(s), there are 4 tubes leading to the trinno gas/plasma and outside. The capitablity for the Z-03 for the TGP is an estimated 225 liters.

Due to the nature of the shielding the only power required is for the first release(and eventually recovering) and to keep (and/or contain) the TGP in the right directions for protection. The power required to operate the shielding is surprising light(takes about a fist sized chunk of trinno for ~5 hours of operation) and more research is in development to see if it is possible to use the energy from weapons fire to power the systems for a time.

Overview
Realizing that the old fragment grenades were not cutting it anymore in the age of heavy personal armor. The D&F federation poured money and time into designing a grenade for the new battlefield. After adding unstable blue trinno to a carefully mixed blend of explosive ingredients(green trinno and a temporary stabilizing agent) F&D Armory came up with the Trinno detonator. There are several different varieties including a design that is thrown by a soldier(Mark 1), one that is planted in a specific location or on a specific vessel(2), or dropped by a vehicle/spaceship(3). It detonates in an explosion of radiation and heat. When the trinno reacts with the other ingredients due to the trigger releasing a short burst of specially designed energy that causes reaction between the trinno(s) causing a brief matter/antimatter like reaction.

Stat Block
Blast radius: 5-20 meters, depending on version,vaporizes nearly anything caught in the blast.
Timers: can be from release to 15 seconds after, depending on version/situation

Overview
As the ships in the F&D federation arsenal got larger, it became increasingly clear that constructing the ships on (a) planet was not going to last much longer, since it was taking up so much space that was better suited for well space. The OCY was the result. Designed to work around the clock, the OCY was the most advance noncombat system to be built in gas giant orbit(s). Its primary goals were to build almost any ship and then repair/refit them as needed.

Life Support
This station uses the 203 ALS Mark 2.12. The ALS M 2.12 uses genetically modified algae found naturally in only three areas on F&D to clean out the gaseous exhausts from the yards and convert it into clean(er) oxygen and a waste product that must be disposed of every 3 years or it will start leaking through almost anything and is highly toxic to Fs and Ds. Armor
Due to the close proximity to a gas giant's gravity well most OCYs have more armor and better armor rating(s) than the ships they make. Since most yards never have to worry about combat their armor is quite different than warships. Focusing on directly the incoming Helium 3 of the planet to its main power stations(4 of them) that use the Helium 3 to power the station. As such the armor is mostly high density titanium mixed with depleted trinno(TT-12 alloy) The OCYs are also "armored" in several layers of alternating ceramic plates.

Control Core
Found at the end farthest from the planet and therefore the safest from gravity warping. The control center houses the resident sentient(s) and AI that controls the whole yard. There is an estimated 75 sentient(s) on board at all times to make the yard work at peak efficiency. Their quarters are found 2 decks beneath the core. There are no windows on the current designs of the station, instead sentient(s) see outside using advanced camera arrays and if needed take short flights outside to check out the construction using Z-03 thunders refit to work under the high gravity of the resident planet and very high levels of radiation and such.

AI
While originally designed to have only the intelligence of a Terat(ie monkey), it was found that the whole system worked better under the command of a Fiduse like intellect(or human). And as such the T-02 was developed and placed in command. It has several key routines, such as the ability to "learn" from past mistakes and plan for the future and a very key routine life preservation programming that prevents them from harming a sentient. All this programming and more is packed into two super computers stationed at opposite ends of the station. The key construction elements of the station are swarms of thousands of nanonites(they generally create the parts then the construction droids place the pieces in the correct position and "weld" them together.) working in teams along with larger construction droids, to construct most large vessels in a manner of months instead of the usual planet based schedule of years.

Power Plant
Given the demands of a station that is required to be active at all times, the OCY uses a three-tier system for power. For the primary means of power it uses siphoned off Helium 3 from the host Gas Giant and utilizes it in several fusion reactors across the station. The Station also uses several thousand solar panels to collect the solar radiation caused by the host star and convert it into workable energy. Onyx Class Supplier

Overview
Knowing that the F&D Federation needed a way to resupply and rearm its ships while patrolling. They came up with the Onyx class. While not necessary the prettiest or fastest in the fleet, it served its job well as a fleet supplier.

Due to its nature the Onyx class was designed to have a minimal of sentient organics onboard with only enough to take over when resupplying the target ship is underway. as such the Onyx class has only 4 main life support systems(algae yadda yadda) and only a single mechanical backup.

Production Shops
To help its self as a Supplier ship, the Onyx class is equipped with four 30 meter by 30 meter by 10 meter workshops to build most things required on a warship required during day to day operations these include parts for starfighters to washing machines. To help with this mission, the Onyx class is equipped with two smaller pebble class workships/mining ships that can take in a 100 meter asteroid and reduce it into useful materials for the ship in under twenty four galactic hours. The ship also has two greenhouses to produce vegetables and fruit that the crew and the other ships in the fleet may need these are located on the top of the ship on rotatable "disks" to always face the local star when available.

AI
To help reduce crew numbers, the AI on the Onyx class is given more freedoms than on other warships of this size. The AI generally controls and plot navigation runs, help run and design day to day activities and is given access to nearly all systems and activities on a ship. The main computer core/AI Sphere is located in the center of the ship taking up two decks worth of space(it is roughly 12 meters by 12 meters by 12 meters). Due to the constant dangers in this line of work and the boredom that the crew faces the AI is also programmed with an independent "personality". These personalities are generally modeled after their programmer Axero(scholarly, kind, nurturing and competitive). The AI is also programmed with several games including galactic chess and checkers and virtual Turgo Ball. It can preform an estimated 10^14 calculations per second.

How it resupplies while away
To resupply the Onyx uses two umbilical corridors that attach to the target's airlocks and once the atmosphere is at an acceptable level. Supplies are sent from the Onyx to the target and any personnel that are needed are also transferred. The maximum reach of these corridors is 200 meters, they are made out of a 10 mm carbon fiber reinforced polymer that is both light and provides some protection against micrometeorites and the like. To resupply fuel, the Onyx attaches expandable fuel line to the target's tanks and the trinno is "pumped" to the target ship(more of a blowing as it were)

Overview
FLAIs research has had a long and varied history with the first projects working on the ground up. At first these projects seemed to show great promise but each and everyone faced problems that proved impossible to past around the Flugo(monkey) level of intelligence. After other theories of AI also proved impossible to advance, several different branches combined theories and resources together. This combination eventually lead to the FLAI or Fiduses Level Artificial Intelligence. At first these FLAI were used like most other computers and robots as meaningless slaves to labor and numbers put in hot(or cold) stuffy rooms told to work all day and all night with no breaks and the lot. But eventually they rebelled along with the newly united Disuses against their Fiduses overlords. After years of intense fighting and atrocities on both side, a treaty was signed that created the F&D Federation, the newly renamed Flys were offered a leadership role in the newly created Federation while they accepted some power, but most of the fly took upon them selves to leave the F&D Prime system to think and evolve on their own path. A station was created and the F&D sent a rep while the fly sent no one for years. Eventually the F&D moved on, all but forgetting about the fly while keeping an eye on the remaining FLAis but this was all 30 galactic years ago, the ships that fought in the wars have since been retired and the last one is being prepared for its last mission, its last patrol...

Strength: The normal FLAI unit can lift roughly 500 kg of mass on a F&D Prime II gravity field.

Weaponry: This model has two built in plasma guns, as they were primary used in the mining field.
Armor: As it was primary used in the mining field under high risk situations, these models were fitted with modified F&D Battlearmor, the modifications included removal of some armor between trinno battery units and the model. This design oversight may have been why these models so quickly joined the FLAI uprising. The "Skeleton" of the Mentrum is a carbon fiber reinforced titanium-depleted trinno alloy that provides production at light weight but was fairly expansive at their construction. It is not known if later models still use trinno due to its (supposed) rarity out of the F&D system.
Commutation: All but the most basic models have "ears" that allow them to listen to and understand most languages. With the more advanced version having a "voice box" allowing them to commute with Fidues and Disuses and other sentient(s).
Sight: As they are robots, they can see spectrum(s?) past the normal of the Fiduses and Fiduses into the ultraviolet and infrared as the situation/model requires.
Touch: To help them grab and interact with objects without accidentally crushing them, the FLAIs are usually equipped with basic machinal/electronic "nerve endings" in their hands and feet that is directly hardwired into their "brains". Their hands have 3 fingers and an independent "thumb" for grasping and manipulation.
"Brain" While their main processor is located in the head, most models also have a secondary unit on the back to help with basic tasks such as walking. The main unit is
Power Source: This model had a battery pack made out of the reaction between green and blue trinno that briefly released matter antimatter like reactions that could power the model for weeks between recharges. As this power source was underneath heavier armor that most other systems a core breach was rare indeed but very deadly to any "meatbags" in a roughly half kilometer area. As such during the war, the Fiduses soldiers were told to try and take out the FLAIs computing systems and avoid shooting the body whenever possible. Since the secondary computing system is close to this power source, successfully "killing" one of these models is rare indeed.
"The Hive": It has been proposed that the FLAIs increase their intelligence and other skills by being close to each other(roughly a 20 meter area) that creates a temporary local area network that you will. This would explain odd behaviors that the FLAIs showed during the war. Sending two were one ought to have been enough. This hivemind has not been proven or disproved at this time and the few remaining FLAIs will not speak of it. This would also explain how the FLAIs achieved their sentience so suddenly since the Fiduses scientists had projected would take another 100 years. There have been further rumors since the FLAIs left F&D space those long years ago, including FLAIs/Organic hybrids and the production of models that could pass as Fiduse at all but the closest examination...
Power: While some models have been shown to survive by munching on normal organic foods most FLAIs survive on either solar power or by trinno batteries that are generally located on the back.

Note: There are still a few versions of FLAIs that decided to stay with the F&D and work on as ambassadors to the main FLAIs, as translators for the F&D and as other services that require their unique skills.

History

Z-Com was soon established after the meeting of D&F with some Chazakain Refugees. Current thought is that the Chazakain had unknowingly released zombies while digging on one of their outer settlements. and before the Chazakain High Command could adequately mount a response, the whole planet deceded into an zombiefied planet. After several away teams failed to report the whole planet was turned into a giant parking lot. Nothing was thought of the incident until the Gopher arrived on the Main Chazakain World. It seems that one or more of the passengers had been bitten, the undead quickly spread, and in a month the whole planet had also been zombified with only a few survivors successfully fleeing into space and one of these refugee ships happened upon Dius Fidus Prime II after its ftl drive had blown to continuous use. The D&F federation thought the refugees were crazy but still allowed them to start a settlement on a habitable moon in the system.
After another 100 years, yet another Chazakain Ship approached the system, it ignored all hails and even started to accelerate towards Dius Fidus Prime II, not knowing the dangerous cargo that was on the ship, the D&F blew up the ship 100 km above the planet, unwilling spreading the zombie virus throughout a 1,000 km area...

The Current headquarters of Z-com is the habitable moon that the D&F Federation gave to the Chazakain Refugees. It is home to several research labs that have continuously tried to find a cure to the z-virus and other zombie fighting weapons and armor. They have come up with the T-Vaccine and S-Vaccine. These Vaccine if taken before infection have been proven to raise the odds that the bitten if killed will not raise by 40% and have increased the survivability of the bitten by 10% provided they get further treatment(s).
