Name: The Kingdom of Moderia

Races: Man, Elves, Dwarfs, orc labourers

Population: 4.3 million

Background

A thousand years ago, a foreign kingdom ruled Moderia brutally and killed tens of thousands of people who stood in their way. After two hundred years of bloody rule, the Moderians rebelled with their new courage and drove the foreigners away from Moderia. The people of Moderia experimented with republican ideas for a dozen years, which had nearly disastrous results. Afterwards, General Prector was proclaimed the First King of Moderia, and he accepted the throne. Prector's descendant King Micro is now the current leader of Moderia.

Now, humans live peacefully side by side with the Elves and the Dwarfs. Dwarfs supplied most of human mining needs, and Elves supplied archers. Recently, Orc labourers are more commonly seen around, they are paid little for so much work. A large Orc rebellion two hundred years ago nearly destroyed the economy, so now orcs are less used as labourers.

Magic is mainly used by Moderian spies and doctors. Nowadays, Moderia uses its edge in technology to make up the lack of magic. Large fortresses are now armed with cannons. There are many roads for traders and visitors.

Government

The King is the most powerful man in the Kingdom. He also chooses members of the Lord Council. Each Lord is represent their Province and have their own council. Normally a Province is divided into districts, and each District is run by a council member. Normally Lords who are chosen are loyal to the King.

The Military is obedient and very loyal to the King.

The largest city in Moderia and the capital. The city is surrounded by a massive wall forty-five feet high, and sixteen feet thick. The Imperial Palace is located conventionally in the middle of the city. Large water aqueducts and more recently, water pumps, have served the city's water needs.

Fortress of Kerdia (http://bfme2.heavengames.com/lore/article_pix/helms_deep_1)
A large massive ancient fortress based near Aurora. Recently, the fortress has been armed with cannons to hold back any invader, though the fortress has not seen any fighting ever since the Great Orc Rebellion. The garrison numbers around five hundred men, but the fortress has the ability to hold five thousand more if necessary. The garrison is commanded by Captain Sider.

The most modern fortress in Moderia. The fortress was built about twenty years ago near the border with Darkmoor Forests. The garrison which numbers seven hundred is commanded by Captain Epson.

Armies of Moderia

Moderian Army: 20,000 Spearmen, 30,000 Swordsmen, 10,000 archers, 10,000 cavalry, 4,000 Axemen, 1,000 Musketeers,

Reservists: 30,000 Spearmen, 40,000 Swordsmen, 15,000 archers, 10,000 cavalry, 5,000 Axemen, 1,000 Musketeers,

Moderian Navy: 25 Ships of the Line, a hundred other smaller vessels.

The military influences all aspects of life in Moderia. Normally young men looking for a career go to the military first before finding other successful jobs. The army is a efficient killing machine, capable of taking on any opponent. Normally during a battle, the Moderian army organizes itself into a arrow head, aimed at the enemy, then stays this way, unless they were confident of victory. The Moderian army is purely defensive.

Cannons were recently introduced into the army's inventory of siege weapons. The army still uses siege onagers and rams, but cannons have added a new interesting angle to the army. Cannons have also been added to fortresses around the Kingdom.

Muskeeters have also been added, though they number a total of one thousand, plus another one thousand as reservists. Musketeers are excellently trained and know who to handle themselves in a middle of a battle. They work together with archers to destroy the enemy formations. Though their handguns are inaccurate, combined, their mass of fire can destroy an enemy.

Cavalry numbers are almost similar to Musketeers. But Moderian cavalry are the deadliest of the deadliest. They can hack down anyone in their path, whether they are prepared or not. The cavalry is led by a Lord personally chosen by the King. Cavalry archers also play a role.

Recently the army added giants to its formations, though there are few of them. Normally, their purpose is to cause chaos and panic among the enemy, allowing the Moderian army to destroy its opponents.

An average Moderian soldier spends thirty years in the army, then is transfered to the reserve army. They are given their own land also as part of the reward of serving for thirty years with the army. Many young Moderian men have spent most of their lives drilling and training in military maneuvers.
