Antarctic Gunsmiths arrives, needs nuclear technology

Antarctic Gunsmiths
19-10-2008, 16:52
The Colony of Antarctic Gunsmiths announces today that we are now allowing international travel to/from our humble nation. We have quite extensive tourism plans, from skiing, to ice hikes, to photography of the various penguin species, to our first ever ice castle contest, etc.

This increase in possible tourism comes with a price, though. We are sorely lacking in power generation, and have come to the conclusion that nuclear power is best for our needs. Therefore, we are looking for bids on training and construction of nuclear power plants in our nation. Any bids can be sent to our General Assembly office, where they can forward it on to the appropriate office.

To Whom It May Concern:

The president of Tilsitsin, with approval from the Tilsitsinian Parliament, has authorized me to offer our assistance in order to meet your power generation needs.

To that end, we are able to offer Tilsitsinian technicians and equipment in order to construct a pressurised heavy water reactor in your country for the estimated cost of $13.5 billion USD.

In addition to monetary payment, if selected as the builder of your atomic energy facility, we will require your signature to enter into a free trade agreement with our nation, in addition to close consideration of a mutual non-agression pact.

We await your decision with great anticipation.

Dear Sir/Madame,

Trita Anbaric Generation has been at the forefront of Adenian nuclear generation for over 30 years. In that time, the library of expertise and knowledge is unparalleled by any other company in Adenia, or indeed the Mediterranean.

Your request is undoubtedly an extreme one; to begin a nuclear project in a nation requires inputs of billions of dollars, hundreds of thousands of man-hours, and potentially decades of research, development and testing. Your request is potentially an extremely vague one - does your nation wish to combine nuclear generation with other forms? Are there concerns that you would require to have answered? Are there leanings toward specific types of reactions? Does your nation have it's own resources, or will it require imports of fuel, either processed or raw?

Before we make a full bid for this project, we must request a more detailed brief.

Yours, with Regards,

The Colony of Antarctic Gunsmiths currently has power generation capabilities, but nuclear power will become our primary source of electricity once the plant is operational. For reactors, we are looking at fast breeder reactors, as we have come to the conclusion that this is the best fit for us. We do have limited quantities of nuclear fuel, but will be importing some as well.

OOC: Barely any money? No territory? No exchange in technology? Heck why aren't you giving everyone nuclear tech if all you want are embassies?! If I weren't already a massive nuclear power I'd pinch that technology offer straight away!

While we are tempted to take you up on your offer, the Candu style reactor isn't what we're looking for. It's a pressurized heavy water reactor, whereas we are looking for a fast breeder reactor.

Re: Nuclear Power
Message: In order to fully understand our proposal you must understand something, our population is extremely . . .wary of nuclear based power. We had a civil war that was, brutal many years ago and one of the worst occurrence was the utilization of three fast breeder reactors to essentially wipe entire cities off the map along with countless civilians. Thus the ASD, to this day, relies on solar, wind, geothermal and hydro based power systems. This has, unfortunately, limited our ability to export energy despite our ability to build state of the art liquid metal fast breeder reactor as we could not build them on our land. This brings us to our offer. We are willing to build 10 Fast breeder reactors in your country. These would be built free of charge though you would be required to staff them after training by our engineers on their systems. A single brigade of ASD'ian forces would also be supplied to provide security until your own forces were trained to our standards. The catch comes here. Of the 10 reactors, 6 would be used to provide your nation with power and export. The other 4 would be for the use of our nation. This would be entirely for export purposes and we would be willing to sell you energy from these reactors at an extremely reduced rate but all the profit from these for reactors would come to us. what say you?

RE: Request for Nuclear Technology

To all:

The People of Karshkovia can not sit by and allow such a young nation to explore Fast Breeder Reactor technology. As it seems, many nations that are offering to share this technology are not fully aware of the significants of such an act. Breeder reactors are designed for the refinement of weapon-grade nuclear material. As such, we do not believe a nation who has just recently formed should be given this techonology.

We would also like to draw the attention of all those in negotiations to our own ongoing tragedy. A Liquid Sodium Fast Breeder Nuclear Reactor along our eastern seaboard has detonated, sending tons of nuclear material into the atmosphere and potentially affecting other nations around the world with the poisonous fallout. Breeder reactors are inherently dangerous and unstable, and cost billions more to design, build, and operate than a standard light or heavy-water nuclear reactor would.

On behalf of President Vladimir Radchenko and Prime Minister Valentina Borofski we ask the other nations of the world to break negotiations with this nation and allow them to discover nuclear energy on their own. This way, such a nation can appreciate nuclear power and know the grave responsibilty that is associated with it.

As we have said, Karshkovia will not allow this nation to procure fast breeder technology. Light or heavy water reactors are acceptable but at this point in their development, we can not allow them to have Fast Breeder technology.

All options are being concidered if such techology was given to them, up to and including a tactical nuclear strike on the site of any fast breeder plant being built in this tiny country.

OOC: To RP having their own nuclear program, I understood it. If he wants to throw billions at a nation to run a load of nuclear power plants for him (cutting down on costs in a way seeing as he doesn't have to train, etc. but long-term economy it'd do some serious harm to), then really, as he's not developing anything hisself, then not a huge problem in my eyes. Remember, besides, that UK traded VX gas for the thermonuclear bomb - it's not all about population.

Trita Anbaric Generation | Wolfram House | Bristol | Cyprecia | Brittanican Adenia | BR25 6HF

To the Esteemed Mr Gorchev,

With all due respect, we do not believe that this would be an entirely unregulated trade. Certainly, all deliveries of atomic anbaric generation to foreign nations are heavily regulated by Her Majesty's Government, and it has been noted that, should our bid be accepted, it would come with conditions to ensure that no untoward activity should occur on a TAG station.

Initially, the stations will be manned entirely by citizens of Adenia, carefully vetted by ourselves, and chosen from the best amongst our ranks and that of the leading universities in Adenia. At a point that the Director of Projects, in committee with government leaders in Antarctic Gunsmiths, agrees, training programs will begin in maintaining and operating the plant. When we feel it is appropriate, the plant will be handed over to native control, whilst remaining under the ownership of Trita. Until this point, the facility will be guarded by private security firms - all property remains under the control of Trita, and any attempt to forcefully take such property will require full attention by ourselves and Her Majesty's Government.

Naturally, if our bid is accepted, we welcome foreign dignitaries or representatives of state as visitors to our facilities - Karshkovia, being a trusted nation, would be welcome to station a full-time observer on any of Trita's Antarctic sites.

Regarding the tragedy in Karshkovia, the relevant authorities have been informed. Our own experts, if required, can be called upon. We are informed that Brittanican Security Solutions, our preferred private security firm, is particularly concerned by the situation and offers it's assistance, via Gerald Holliver.

Trita takes nuclear power extremely seriously - it is, after all, our business.

Yours,

Alicia Lewis

OOC II: I'd like to make it clear that Trita is not (as it so often seems) an extension of the government! It will consider it's investors and it's funds, but also will, on occasion, bend the law (e.g. allowing foreign observers on nuclear stations, which is illegal in Adenia proper, but the law is vague abroad), in order to make a profit.

ooc: no threat against any other nation just gunsmith. If anything, it would be like the Israeli surgical strike on the Iraqi nuclear reactor in the early 90's. A few jets drop a few bombs and the nuke plant was abandoned. If they did get a breeder plant, then I'd just throw them on ignore for 3-6 months. Too many first-month nations getting nuke tech lately.
