RE: The ongoing trade in human lives.

To the macabre parody of civilisation that calls itself IStormistan, and to all those who grant that honourless blight upon the earth the grace that is their time, acknowledgement or resources, or those who possess few enough scruples to refer to the self-interested currs that form the IStormistan government as 'friends' or 'kin'.

Nearly two hundred years ago the Protectorate of Lyras was formed to safeguard the land and people from the predations of those such as you. From the wreckage of the Storn League, under the watchful eye of the remnants of the League military, Lyras came into being. War is our life, but not war for its own sake. War in the name of honour. In the name of what is right and just and good in this blackened world. War because war, however savage, barbarous and destructive, is better than an honourless, ignoble peace, with those who decry the inherent freedom and intrinsic worth of human life. With those who belittle those weaker than themselves, and denigrate them by reducing their status to that of livestock, chattel, or worse. With those like you.

You have no honour. You deny those whom you oppress, who you profit from and who you control (by dubious legal sanction, blessed by institutions that, given their ethically bankrupt state, have burned away the veneer of legitimacy they may once have held), the opportunity to progress, grow and develop as self-guiding sentient beings. You deprive them, yourselves, and, by extension, all humanity, of the potential represented in the conscious, self-directing, self-aware natures of your subjugated peoples, and that is a crime of unimaginable callousness and a horrific testimony to your complete and utter unsuitability for the position of authority that, by trickery or fortune, you have come to occupy.

Slavery, especially in the form which includes commerce and traffic in human lives, is anathema to all but the most dubious moral code. It destroys relationships and families, is ruinous to enterprise, stifles innovation and, most importantly is a blight upon the soul and character of all who would undertake it, or gain succour from it..

Those hideously misguided states that engage in this trade with you have not escaped our notice. The veil of anonymity over them has, by their actions, been lifted. That which we now say to you, we also say to them. You, and they, will turn from this mockery of governance, this ghastly, sickening and honourless imitation of all that is right in the world, or we shall strike you down.

As a state founded upon principles of honour, we cannot be true to ourselves if we allow your rampant and callous disregard for the sanctity and value of human life to continue. The people and state that together constitute the Protectorate of Lyras hold the obligation to defend those who seek protection very seriously. Seriously enough, in fact, that the entirety of Lyran society is based upon the premise that honourable defence of the weak and innocent is the highest calling. What greater honour than, clothed in righteousness and marching under the banner of good, to enter battle outnumbered by the highest possible margin, and to emerge victorious?

We cannot but regard oppression in every form – but most of all, that oppression that turns a man into a possession– with indignation and utter, unadulterated abhorrence. Not to accept and act upon these feelings and sentiments would be to embrace cowardice in the highest order, and would violate every principle that we, and all others who cherish their hard-earned freedom, hold dear. They who seek our silence on this most fundamental subject ask us to betray ourselves, our honour, our self-respect, our decency and our essence as freemen. All that it takes for evil to prevail is that enough good men remain silent, so we shall not stand silent. We will not turn a blind eye to the plight of the innocent. We will not stand idle and shirk the duty and responsibility with which we are charged in just proportion to the power we wield.

All too often those who ignore the fact that authority and power are counterpointed by responsibility have sought to shield their moral and ethical corruption behind the walls of national sovereignty. Untold wrong has sought refuge behind those ramparts, but here we proclaim – no longer. All too often has the world looked on aghast but, fearful of condemnation or consequence, has failed to act. This, we hold, is a crime in itself, and one which we shall not be held damned for.

Therefore, in accordance with the dictates laid out in the Theeb Accords, the governing bodies of IStormistan are thusly and hereby required to begin legal, executive, administrative or judicial proceedings directed towards the complete abolition of slavery in all its myriad forms, within a timeframe not exceeding one month from the issue of this proclamation, or face the direst measures which the Protectorate of Lyras, and all those who freely choose to stand with it, will justly impose.

We stand undaunted.

As the Armed Republic of Salzland is one of several nations already engaged in joint naval actions aimed at forcing an end to iStormistan's international slave trade, we wholeheartedly throw our support behind the Lyran effort to ensure that this abominable practice is eradicated from iStormistan once and for all.

Whilst La Gente supports freedom of expression and demonstration at an almost fanatical level, we can not support, condone or protect those that sell others, thus the ultimate offense against freedom of expression. La Gente will stand by Lyras.

We totally agree with your opinions on the matter, but we would like to differ on the idea that slavery can be totally exterminated. Frankly, a great many nations including our own use slavery as a means to pay off debt (though it is regulated heavily). Criminals are also used as slaves for public works projects.

We are not arguing that slavery has some purposes when not abused, but sometimes it is an economical solution rather than to put our nation in debt bailing out homeowners, why not make them serve the banks for a few months. Make them work off their debt. There is still a bigger issue concerning the world, the use of legal/vague terms to define slaves. The use of "indentured servants" who serve a virtual life sentence for no reason (though in many countries such as ours, it is much better to be one of these such servants than to serve life sentences in prisons or to be executed).

Personally, Ascelonia wants to reserve the right to use slavery when it comes to criminals and convicts, as well as con-artists and those in debt.

We are behind this endeavor, to liberate IStormistan, but we request that a treaty be hammered out so that IStormistan will remain a sovereign country with all current territories, rights, resources, and populations as opposed to a collection of protectorate, colonies, and puppet states.

I've being informed about the current engagements that Lynx has suddenly begun due to the use of slavery. I admire my own men for doing their part to bring down slavery. In response to your call from your telegram, you have my permission and the permission of the Governor of the Vamperial Colony of Lynx, Vamperial Assassin Headmaster Sherman, you can use Lynx as a base of operations. I've also committed an armada to help Lynx with the downfall of slavery.

Good Luck Lyras.

RE: The current troubles with IStormistan

To the honorable and glorious Protectorate of Lyras, we of the Foundation of Terran Tribes wish to applaud your resolve in the matter Istormistan's deplorable actions. The world needs more nations like yours to stand up and do what is just and right. Unfortunately the FTT is not currently a signatory of the Theebs accords, and the current political situation of the Foundation makes it unlikely that this oversight will be corrected in the near future.

As such, the Foundation is unable to support any endeavors in correcting IStormistan's policies with sanctioned military force, and can only officially offer amnesty for any wishing to flee IStormistan and limited foreign aid.

However, there are a numerous Mercenary Tribes residing within Foundation territory that are well armed and trained. Foundation law prevents the FTT from employing these tribes in external matters without a declaration of war regrettably. Numerous grants and subsidies are available, however, to defray the cost of employing these tribes so long as the employing nation can give reasonable proof that the contracted forces are on missions of humanitarian nature.

While I am sure that the proud military of Lyras is quite up to the task of correcting IStormistan in its mistakes, some of the above named Merc Tribes have earned a reputation for removing obstacles discreetly while leaving no tangible threads to connect any actions committed to themselves or their employers. Given the charged nature of the situation their services may prove most helpful.

Please contact the Office of External Concerns if you wish to discuss matters further or if you wish, we could provide you the codes to contact the Mercenary Review Board of Nevah Crem if you wish to move matters forward in a more expedient manner.

War Office Briefing Room Underground Secure Complex, Palace of the Revolution; Tailville DR, Wagdog...

They had woken her from bed; with her husband and vice, no less, for this? While yes it was important, especially considering the tenuous status of the Theeb Accords ever since UFAN's de-facto dissolution, all the same just how long had it been since the last slavery-busting crisis Wagdog had actually had to intervene in before its' allies had successfully brought the problem to heel? Seven, eight years? A decade even? Obviously not long enough for those inclined towards the 'peculiar institution' to get the proverbial hint already...

"Okay..." Stewardess Christine Friedrich was tired raw, and she sounded it; the company was agreeable but far from her preferred case. "So you're saying Eileen that we basically have a repeat of the Strator case? A nation offering citizens for sale; Hell, ten percent of its' citizens!?" That threw her, she had to admit; not holding that many in such bondage since she'd heard of worse places in that regard which didn't particularly bear naming at such hours of the night if it were to help her sleep. Rather, that IStormistan would wish to sell so huge a percentage of its' labor force abroad; talk about likely shooting oneself in the foot. But then again these were the sorts of states by both policy and morals she didn't want sticking around after all...

"Essentially." Defense Secretary Field Marshal Eileen Millenhaus had experience in that regard; frankly, it was she who'd led the old Seventh Army Group, her nation's contribution to the forces tasked with enforcing the Stratorian situation's settlement until the Theeb process was in place and further occupation had (at the time) been deemed unnecessary. Hardly seemed close to twenty years ago, even to her; but Time had its' way about that indeed. "The Lyrans would likely have it handled well-enough ma'am; but..." Marshal Millenhaus let the matter hang; Her Excellency knew the history as well as she, and could draw the appropriate inference.

"Haha..." Christine rested her face in her palm looking across the briefing table, surrounded by the usual main cabinet officials. "So you say you want us to put your old unit in as support, eh?" She sighed even as she smiled. "Barronia, Vetaka, probably Holy Marsh soon looking at that mess; we're everywhere lately so it seems. Yes, why not let the 'Old Bloodstones' in on the fun?" She was only partly sarcastic; her assent was somewhat flippant, but genuine all the same. "Yes, we have neglected these matters; go ahead and I trust you to see to the preparations together with your successor in command of said 7th Host as well as any naval elements which may need sending. But let the Lyrans advise on what is needed first; it's getting tight and I am not liking these disappearing merchantmen we and everyone else in our region seem to be having lately, hear?"

"Indeed Ma'am; tomorrow's meeting, we cover that next." Upon Christine's signal that the meeting was about to adjourn Miarshal Millenhaus saluted as was proper, then casually remarked, "You sure about Roger wanting to hear it from me rather than you? I suspect he'll like the news when he wakes in a few about as little as you did!" Once the formalities were dispensed with, the old friends were much like they had been for decades even if Millenhaus had aged the worse of them by far; attractive in her way and with some of that dark red to her hair yet but still clearly getting on in years.

"Likewise, ma'am." Air Marshal Daniel Rendish was also an older man now; by far, not least due to having led two major and countless minor bombing campaigns during his many command postings with the old Wagdian Red Army Air Force. Following the hardliners' attempt to unseat the duo that was Charles Lind (then General Secretary) and Christine Friedrich (then the deputy, rather than the current reverse situation that now prevailed...), however, a good chunk of both the Army and Air Force officer corps had to go for one or another set of disloyalty-related offenses. Sad business, that; but if it led to a combat veteran getting the top chair rather than some desk jockey like arguably was the case before, perhaps worth it. Especially a veteran who had zero illusions about what putting his own fellow airmen in harms way meant; had learned about that in the cockpit directly, moreover. "7th Host's air component can be ready to go by the time the Lyrans need any serious assistance, assuming we let 'em know we're revving up; particularly so for follow-on duty which would be my main recommendation. As the haft of a spear follows the point, ma'am."

"Indeed Rendish, I was thinking that; and Eileen do tell Roger that he should've asked about that before he even made his first square if he were worried about his beauty sleep!" Christine referred jokingly to the rank-insignia of a 2nd Lieutenant even now, a single enamelled national-flag-colored square on their arm-of-service lapel tab; for an officer of both Millenhaus' and new 7th Host commander Marshal Roger Barton's specialties that being a bright red tab. The colors may have changed a bit on the square since Barton's lieutenancy days, to match the flag's changes since, but not the rank or service tabs in their respective meanings; besides he had a marshal's five gold stars now so he truly couldn't complain.

"Indeed, haha!" The upper-echelons of Wagdog's military, even if not all campaign veterans like Millenhaus and the very uppermost on the Joint Chiefs, were still nonetheless mostly a tight-knit group; frequently academy graduates from the same earliest classes-as-such if not direct from the revolutionary period itself prior before even formal officership. Hence they knew about such details of each other's service careers more often than not; perhaps a bit antiquated a social structure for a force of its' size but equally a good way to foster teamwork where required. "It shall be done, Your Excellency; goodnight and pleasant dreams." As all retired for hopefully some more sleep, the value of teamwork was clearly going to rise in a few short hours.

Well well, another slaverlord appears eh? I admit you move fast Warmarshal; indeed, so fast that while the old JCS around at the last Stratorian nipping was presenting matters to the General Secretary you and Vetaka and company had Strator back to Theeb-compliance in no time. With luck, we can beat that record here. Anyway, to business...

PRELIMINARY ORBAT COMPRISES VII CAV-MECH LEGION AND VII TACTICAL AIR WING, UNDER EACH SUBORDINATE HQ RESPECTIVELY; CAPABLE OF EXPANSION OR CONTRACTION AT LYRAN REQUEST, PLEASE ADVISE.

REGARDLESS, AIR-LAND CAPABILITIES WILL REMAIN IN ANY CONPLAN BECOME OPLAN UNDER AEGIS OF FM ROGER BARTON, 7TH HOST CO; AND NAVAL MAY BE MADE AVAILABLE IF CRITICAL TO MISSION.

Don't you just hate it when they do that? I had such lovely essay-length explanations ready for EXCOMM's enjoyment but the damn machine puts it into fragmentary-order form the minute I spell-check it! Alas my time on duty tonight is running down; midnight crises are bad enough anyway, whether one signs up or not. Also, though we stand with you the Stewardess will likely not be able to make her 'official' statement until tomorrow; with the benefit perhaps of more political perspective but also the risk of preparations becoming outdated. Shouldn't be a problem but it bears noting until she's once again awake and coherent, which given our contingency meeting's disruption to her sleep already will take probably the whole 7th's ration of coffee for the day; so I can just tell their quartermaster-general is going to love me for the requisition order once he hears.

In any event, stand undaunted friends; we arm and await your word...
