Reconstruction

Ascelonia

Ascelonia had to rebuild quickly and reconstruct what was left of their nation. The violence had brought a once great nation to her knees. Factories were cold, dark, and empty. Storages were empty and buildings were broken down. The great capitol was in ruins after the Red Tidean airstrike. The capitol had been taken a great beating and it was being argued between specialists whether it would be better to repair or rebuild on a new site miles away from the old one. Neither idea was too bad, but both were quite costly. The only question was which was costlier. The new site had a natural harbor and was uninhabited as well as safe from earthquakes, which was generally a problem only in the south, and hurricanes, which had been the scourge of Ascelonia City.

The Black Fist was gaining popularity amongst the neo-fascists who began rallying in the borderlands. The time for reconstruction was now. Engineers and specialists hammered away at the drawing boards and scribbled blueprints. They were trying to build an entire civilization back to glory in a few years. A Herculean task all on it's own.

In the disputed territories (during the treaty of Atlantica after the Second War, it was declared a neutral zone and wildlife habitat), a bomb went off. The explosion leaked hundreds and thousands of miles away from Ground Zero through the smoldering capitol of Ascelonia City and unfurling in the endless seas. A mushroom cloud could be seen for miles around the detonation site. It was clear that the Black Fist had caused the destruction, but it was unclear how many more bombs they had.

Meanwhile, the Ascelonian Revolutionary Government's compromise had collapsed and it was back to square one. They could agree on a few things for the Reconstruction plans. It was outlined here:

1. Extension of the Interstate (currently about 25,000 miles in road) to an additional hundred thousand miles in length. Installation of high-tech security system along these roadways and addition of thirty emergency rescue stations for car accidents along the road.

2. Increasing standards for attaining license, improving quality of roadways, and promoting safe driving practices.

3. Offering bailouts to Ascelonian businesses after the war. Reconstructing and remodeling factories, offices, and/or service centers damaged/destroyed by the war.

4. Expanding the high-speed rail system (currently about 400 miles long) to over five thousand miles long with the goal of linking every major city together.

5. Expanding the railway system (currently 180,000 miles long) to almost four hundred thousand miles long with the aim of using renewable energy as opposed to current coal and diesel fired trains.

6. Placing all current criminals under possession of the state under probation with tracking ID chips implanted in them.

7. Future criminals under arrest will be allowed to work for the government for companies operating within Ascelonia to pay off public debt.

8. The construction of a superstructure to attract tourism and rebuild the hospitality sector.

9. Legalization of prostitution and elimination of all regulations except those regarding STDs to improve the condition of the hospitality sector.

10. Reinvestment in alternative energy to power Ascelonia. Especially tidal power, wind power, and solar power. Objective if lining Ascelonia's coasts with tidal power plants, placing wind power plants in remote regions, and establish solar panels throughout the nation.

11. Expanding development of seaports, airports, and nationalizing a bank to allow Ascelonia to form a large and neutral bank for other nations.

12. Reduction of military budget and reallocation of resources to education, healthcare, and homeland security.

13. Promoting the acceptance of minorities and alternative lifestyles to promote a safer environment for civilians inhabiting Ascelonia.

14. Offering more classes (in universities, colleges, and high schools) related to literature, foreign languages, and english.

15. Creating more classes relating to information technology sector.

16. Legalization of recreational drugs in certain regions with strict regulation for entrance and exiting.

17. Aim to gain greater income from ecotourism, tourism (in general), arms production, insurance, security firms, information technology, literature, and banking.

OOC: Ok, here. Thanks for the link Ascelonia. I know it's short and not very well written, but I'm tired right now. I'll post a better post later, involving actually stuff instead of just an overview.

Having pledged their support in a telegram to Ascelonia, Falkasia was first on the scene. The soldiers and engineers who had orginally paradropped near the beginning of the conflict would now be taking up reconstruction duties and helping the population in rebuilding their country. Until a more permenent solution could be arranged, they would also be policing the area as well. It was a very simple and full-proof plan.... or so they thought.

HAZMAT troopers stormed through the detonation sites, searching for surviving natives and samples of the radioactive material. They would get an analysis to learn more of the nuclear weapon detonated. The whole incident was declared as a volcanic eruption and it had been covered up. Silver iodide and dry ice were deployed by Ascelonian aircraft all around the site to prevent radioactive debris from being driven by the tradewinds. Instead, the cloud seeding would produce rain, which would drive the waste towards the ground in the disputed territories.

Supplies were pouring in from Falkasia. There were plenty of handouts to keep the population happy at the time. Factories were in the process of being reconstructed. The bulldozers bore the insignia of Falkasian companies. Roads and rails were being expanded and repaired all across the country.

The hand of the Imperial Authority expresses great sorrow for the misfortunes that have befallen its erstwhile ally. However, the Ascelonian people endure, and the eyes of the Emperatium are not ignorant to their suffering. As we speak, aid packages are being assembled. Several noble houses have expressed interest in providing economic aid for the Ascelonians. As we grieve, we hope to bring the two of us to our feet together.

We are currently in the process of reconstructing a nation and reestablishing a government. They say, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, but teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." That's what we're trying to do. Teach Ascelonia how to fish. Though, we already know, we forgot and began specializing in taking other peoples' fishes. We're relearning and on our way to rebuilding our country.

Arkadica Security Assumes Monopoly

There are many times in the history of this world, in which one force overtakes another. In this case, it is Arkadica Security, which has consolidated and gained control of all private security firms (including Ascelonia Security, which was the national industry at the time) within Ascelonia. The Ascelonian Revolutionary Government has set aims upon funding and even nationalizing it (though purely as a ceremonial title as opposed to actually taking control of it).

Ascelonia seeks to demilitarize their nation and let the Arkadica Security Inc. assume the responsibilities of preserving the peace.

Varangian Mercenary Forces had been hired to Help with the reconstruction and a number of larger Air Carriers were bringing in the troops and their materials. Mercs worked side by side with the Falkasian forces just being glad that they were getting paid not to get shot at as one of the battalions provided roving scouts and stationary sentry positions around both forces.

ooc: I rewrote part of your first post...what do you think? Feel free to use it or abuse it :)

It was felt in the hearts and minds of her people: Ascelonia had to recover herself quickly and resolutely. The need to rebuild what was left of their nation was unspoken but strong.

Violence had brought the once great nation to her knees, and while her people were battered and bruised, they were not broken. Factories which once turned out much sought after goods were now cold, dark, and empty, but they would once again sound of machines and smell of chemicals. Stores stood barren watch over desolate, litter-strewn streets, but they would see the newest products displayed in their windows and the streets would be bustling with people. The cold wind moaned through the holes of broken down buildings, as if in despair at the sight it was witnessing, however the buildings would be repaired and the wind would no long moan in sorrow. Here and there grey or black smoke columns rose from still-smoldering fires. Once firemen would have seen to the fires; but now even the fire stations lay in ruins. The great fire engines crushed under tons of steel, brick, and concrete of the stations that once housed them. These would one day be repaired and the firemen would return to keep the people safe from fire.

The capitol had been taken a great beating and now lay in ruins after the Red Tidean airstrikes which decimated its center. The question wasn't a matter of when but where would it be rebuilt. Specialists squabbled now over rebuilding the city or moving the capitol to a less damaged city and rebuilding a new capitol elsewhere.

While both were costly, the new site would offer a natural harbor, giving the new capitol shipping and trade traffic it lacked before. Unlike the old capitol, it also lay on land not subject to earthquakes.

OOC: It's pretty good, though my nation hasn't degraded to that point, there's plenty of damage created by the CAP and Anarchists.

Things were progressing quickly. The Ascelonian goals were be reached one by one. Though the process was expensive, they were making Ascelonia more advanced. Ascelonia would never be able to physically take over the world, but they would be able to catch up in economics.

The Ascelonian Revolutionary Government convened in a final gathering to agree on a new government.
