Name: Av Alta Ava Ateril *Roughly Translated* Domain of the High Elvers

Race: High Elves

Background

In the ancient past the High Elves were great benefactors of the less developed races of the world and aided the more primitive, and less intelligent, races that bordered them, or were within a reasonable traveling (in Elven terms) to their lands. However, during the War of the Titans the High Elven civilization was radically changed where once there were benevolent beings who actively aided lesser races, now there was a people forced to fight to defend themselves from the encroaching darkness. As had the War of the Titans affected all the other peoples of the world the corrupting influence had come to alter the lives of the greatest of all elven kind, the High Elves.

For a long period of time did a conflict persist in the elven lands as the High Elves attempted to stem the onslaught of the now corrupted folk that surrounded their beloved forests. The now barbaric peoples that surrounded them brought fire to their plains and axe to their woods. With such savagery encompassing them the High Elves had little choice, it was basically adapt or die.

To defend their lands the High Elves resorted to outright genocide of all of their neighbors who resisted them. They meet savagery with savagery. Aggression with even more aggression. And so forth.

This process continued for a number of years till the High Elves finally conquered, or destroyed, all the peoples who had threatened their ancient homes. Yet, there was a massive number of beings who had either been captured by the High Elves or had fled to the edges of the High Elven domain. The High Elves had firmly concluded that peace could never be achieved if the corrupted races were free. So it came down to the choice weather to destroy all those how they had fought or enslave every single last one of their former foes to prevent the threat that the High Elves so feared from returning.

Thus the great High Elven lords, highly skilled mages by any standard, forced a radical change in their formerly intelligent neighbors, with the use of profane arcane arts, basically removed the higher mental abilities of their former foes and turned them into essentially mindless slaves. As well, they added a certain trait to their slaves to ensure their loyalty, they would only listen to a being who was skilled in the magical craft of the great lords of the High Elves. This trait was added to prevent the new slaves from being abused by the common people and to make sure that a future rebellion by them would be very unlikely.

In the subsequent years the High Elves began the expansion of their realm into the lands that they had conquered during the wars to preserve their lands. The High Elf Lords began the construction of the great wizard towers that, to this day, dominate the landscape of the wilderness and cities of their land. Furthermore, the High Elves used their slaves to begin the construction of the great cities of the Elves; cities of white marble, cities of high towers, grand libraries with prodigious works on a vast array of topics, and various other things.

Through many long years did the High Elves continue the construction of their great cities, while also beginning the proliferation of knowledge (of all sorts) so that they might make their future all the brighter and help to ensure that they would never again face such a massive attack upon the light of the High Elves. Yet, this knowledge came a price, many of the great High Elven lords became corrupted by the very research they hoped could be used to defend their lands. Knowledge into the forbidden fields of necromancy, of magic that could corrupt the very souls of others, and of the ability to freely dominate the will of other sentients.

Despite various corrupt persons emerging the High Elves remained strong in the face of adversity as they always had done, but now had created special units of mages who were trained to root out dark magic wherever they found it and to eliminate any threats, be they or external or internal, to the integrity of the High Elven Domain. They became know quite simply as the Eye.

Much did the High Elves essentially follow the course of expansion, with only a few major conflicts since the time of the War of Titans. However, they always have maintained a constant vigil on their borders and endlessly wage war against all those who would dare to intrude on their lands unwelcome.

Society

While it does appear that High Elven society revolves around what appears to be a essential caste system it in fact simply guided by a rather unique sense of morals, ones that demand that one respect the dignity and accomplishments of others. Which is one of the reasons why there appears to be a caste as the magically capable amongst the High Elves are treated with a great of reverence and often are capable of commanding the loyalty of more ‘normal’ High Elves with relative ease due to the complex social system of the High Elves. Due to the complex social mannerisms of the High Elves the manner of the government is also quite different then other shorter lived races in that it is generally accepted that long term actions might take decades, if not centuries to come to fruition.

In regards to their slaves the High Elves tend to treat them quite well; they are kept feed, clothed, in shelter, and not abused. However, they still are quite mindless and need the direction of a well trained High Elf mage in order to perform any really complex task as they lack their higher brain functions and thus are not capable of complex thinking process or complex activities.

Overall, though the High Elves are quite high in their belief that it is their duty to prevent the return of darkness to the world, look down on other races are impetuous and slow witted, and believe that the only truth in the world is logic and that emotions, including empathy, are signs of weakness.

Economy

As a state that does a good deal of trading in the know world the High Elves have adapted a versatile currency that is based on gold and silver coins with standard coins weighing 10 grams, 20 grams, 30 grams, and 40 grams. The trading ratio of silver to gold is roughly 11:1 in weight.

Government:

The general system of government is based upon a complex house where the rule of the Domain is divided amongst various houses, both great and small, which are dominated by the greatest mage of their respective house. As a result of this rule of the Domain is quite localized and the laws vary according to what house rules the locality. However, there is a High King who rules over the High Elves and is generally the greatest mage of the High Elven Domain, which makes his amongst the most able mages of the world. The rule of the High King is justified by his descent from the first High King who managed to subdue the various foes of the High Elves and cast the spell that forever dwindled the minds of their foes to little above animals and bound their actions to the High Elven lords through now forgotten magics. As well, the first High King left various artifacts that could only be handled by his direct descendents which helps cement the rule of his various descendents.

But it will cost you in that you must allow me to tie your history into some rp and this factbook, though also please shoot your idea to me first. As well, to state I know that I did not tag as Eldire, but it also prevents random other rpers from Eldire to pop up and ask me for things.
