Xeraph

"Good morning. This is Terry McSherry for XNN News coming to you live from the Royal Palace in Ravennii, Xeraph. In a couple of minutes, there will be an official proclamation read to us by Count Trig'an, spokesman for the government. It is anticipated that the announcement will have to do with the dissolution of the Grand Alliance of Peace Through Strength, known as GAPTS.
While we wait for the Count, I'll relate to you the highlights of the Alliance's history. GAPTS was created by the late Emperor, Alaric Tan'it, as a means to curb the potential threat of smaller nations being harassed by larger, more powerful nations. It's basic tenets were simple: members had to have a minimum population of two billion and they had to provide a minimum complement of 250,000 military personnel to the Alliance. At it's height, GAPTS was comprised of some eighteen nations whose combined populations stood at approximately 125 billion, thereby providing the Alliance with a major source of military power.
GAPTS nations came together to fight against the rebellion of the Essenian Dynasty, the Black and Grey Imperium War, the War of the Azulun Rebellion, and the most current attack against the Kingdom of Auralinia by the nations of the region of Mog Druthin headed up by the sorceror Tsaphon. Millions died in these conflicts. Millions who were citizens of many countries, but which countries banded together and defeated evil wherever it raised it's head." He paused for a moment. "Ladies and gentlemen, it looks like the Count is here and.....yes. Ladies and Gentlemen of the Empire, Count Trig'an."
Count Trig'an of the Kingdom of the Black Katanas strode tot he platform, shuffled through a few papers, cleared his throat and said, "Citizens of Xeraph and all nations allied to our Empire. It is with a certain amount of sadness that I announce the dissolution of the Grand Alliance of Peace Through Strength. Many wars have been fought under the jurisdiction of this Alliance, all successfully concluded. The nations of Tocrowkia, Comatica, Mandalore Prime, Tarlag, United Earthlings, Shazbotdom, Findan, Bynzekistan, Vhammpyr, and numerous others fought with valor unsurpassed in the annals of military history. Xeraph is proud to name all of the nations of GAPTS as it friends and allies.
It has become increasing apparent, however, that an alliance of this size and scope is no longer necessary, at least for the time being. The Empire and the nations within it's sphere of influence are presently at peace, and has been so for quite some time. The Alliance has served it's purpose, and so now must be laid to rest. Effective today, by order of the Regents of Xeraph and in collusion with the members of GAPTS, I do hereby declare that GAPTS be dissolved. Questions?" A young lady raised her hand. "Yes, Miss Sharila."
The woman stood, looked over to the right and then the left, then asked, "M'lord, what does Amra say about this?"
All talk ceased....you could have heard a pin drop. The Count narrowed his eyes and said, "Young lady, you know that's not an acceptable topic at this time."
She stood her ground. "Nonetheless, M'lord, what is Amra's position on this dissolution of one of the most important alliances ever formed?"
Before the Count could answer, there was a commotion near the large double-doors leading from the hall to the press room. The murmurs rose to a shout as the crowd parted and Amra Tan'it jumped up to the platform, surveying the crowd of reporters. He focussed his attention on the woman and said, "Well, little lady. Here I am. What do you want to know?"
Amra was the spitting image of his father, Alaric of Xeraph. Six-foot eight, two hundred thirty-five pounds of raw energy. He was clad in the traditional warrior's uniform of black leather and chainmail, armed to the teeth, long black hair cascading over his shoulders to his waist. His shocking blue eyes held her in place a minute, but she managed to stammer, "Forgive me, M'lord. It's just that we've been hearing rumors. Rumors that Alaric's son was alive and well and leading the Xeraphian armies to victory after victory." She paused, took a deep breath, and said as she pointed a finger at him. "Just where the hell have you been, M'lord?"
Dead silence covered the room like a wet blanket. Amra glared at the reporter, and then as a grin slowly spread across his face, he laughed out loud. "Well, shitfire, girl! What's your name?" She stared him right in the eye. "I'm Aura Sharila, XNN News, Auralinian Bureau."
He laughed again. "Well, Aura of Auralinia, here's what I think. It's necessary for GAPTS to dissolve because there is a better and more efficient way to deal with the bad guys these days. That's all you need to know right now about that." Amra spoke to the room. "One other thing that's gonna happen soon.....my coronation."
The room erupted once again. A new Emperor! Reporters were in a frenzy to get the news to their respective offices. Amra held up his hands, and all quieted down.
"If you knew my father, then you know me. I'm not a man for pomp and grandeur, but my Regents tell me that this sort of thing is necessary. So be it. My coronation will take place in thirty days. All nations who are listening are hereby invited to Ravennii. Those who aren't, you'll get a notice." He paused and grinned. "It's gonna be a hell of a party, folks. So come and enjoy."
He looked again at Aura Sharila. "And if M'lady would accompany me to dinner this evening, I'd appreciate it."
Aura hadn't expected this. She composed herself and said, "Of course, m'lord, I'd be honored to dine with you this evening."
"Good. I'll send someone over to pick you up. About nine?"
She said nothing for a second, then steeled herself. "M'lord, I'd appreciate it if you yourself would come for me at my residence and escort me to dinner. I'm not one to be picked up by someone I hardly know."
Again, silence in the pressroom. Most were thinking that she'd gone too far.
Again, the unexpected. Amra straightened himself, gave a short bow to Aura, and said, "My apologies, M'lady. I'll be there at eight thirty-five sharp. You'll be ready, I'm sure?"
She noticed he wasn't too sure. She said nothing, and with a simple nod of her head she tuned on her heel and walked out of the room, a small smile on her face.......
