The two swords clanged together yet again in a dance of metal, and the two men wielding them forced their wills against one another in a desperate struggle for control of the battle. Eventually, the two weapons skidded apart, showering the area in a flurry of sparks. The battle raged on, neither side gaining advantage over the other, with an endless use of thrusts, parries, and slashes.
A moment's pause in the fighting occurred, as the two combatants faced each other on opposing sides of the room. Both men had been fighting for a while now. Sweat trickled down their faces, and both were breathing heavily.
"Father... Father's prowess is unrivaled." The first man panted, gasping for breath.
"Only that of his son may rival him in combat." The second man answered. Emperor Xuo (http://genyaxadrian.deviantart.com/art/Emperor-18353463) let out a laugh, and lowered his weapon. Seeing the opening, Prince Jun (http://onigiri-kun.deviantart.com/art/Chinese-emperor-24629547) couldn't pass up the opportunity to land the final blow, and rushed forward. Seeing the weapon coming, The Emperor easily rolled to the side, bringing his blade up, and stopping right before he ran his blade through his son's back.
Jun stopped dead in his tracks, turning slowly to come face to face with his mistake. He dropped his sword, and brought his hands to his knees, panting.
"Your son is humbled by such display of skill."
"My son's skill with his sword is quickly rising to that of his father." Emperor Xuo said proudly, lowering his weapon. "But I have not summoned you in order to do battle. Come, walk with me."
And the pair left the small room, coming into one of the grand corridors of the Imperial Palace. Soldiers of the Gao-Shen lined the hallway at perfect attention, their jade-colored armor shining in the light. Imperial Courtiers, clad in their traditional black robes, bowed as they passed. The pair walked in silence for a time before coming to an open hallway, half of which was open to the outside. Hundreds of soldiers stood at perfect attention in ordered rows in front of the palace, leaving a large open pathway down the middle, leading to the palace gates.
"One day, my son, this Empire shall become yours." The Emperor finally said. "Our people are as old as the stars themselves, and our lands stretch far and wide across the earth."
"Father, I know this already." Jun responded, a bit of confusion in his voice. He didn't understand what his father was getting at.
Xuo went on "Do you not find it strange that we know nothing of the world outside the reaches of our influence?"
"Because, Father, there is nothing to learn." Jun said. Surely nothing could prosper outside of the rule of the Emperor, save from mindless barbarians and bandits?
"Are you sure of that? How can we be so certain of that if we do not look? The world is a vast place, and stretches far and wide beyond the reaches of our people. Something is there, I am sure of it."
Jun went down on one knee, and bowed his head. He understood what was coming. "What is Father's will?"
Xuo turned to face his son, his voice becoming composed and commanding. "My son shall lead an expedition outside the borders of our Empire, and will bring our culture and civilization to the outside world."
"I carry out my Father's Will." Jun made one final bow, before wishing his father his goodbyes.
The very next day, Prince Jun departed from the Imperial City to lands unknown. He was accompanied by a contingent of Gao-Shia bodyguards, and a cultural expedition, to being the culture of the Empire to unknown worlds.
Word was spread far and wide to foreign lands that a Prince was coming.
(OOC: So, my intention is for another kingdom to get word of this, so we may have a diplomatic meeting (or we can fight, I'm up for that too.) Anyway, my location keeps me out of a bunch of Eldire threads, so I decided I'd make my own.)
