Scraping the Sky(Tallest Building in the world)

Self-made trillionaire and CEO of "Keep-off" Landmine and area denial weaponry company, Shaina Koznay has begun building the "Mile High" Building which will when completed dwarf the Falkasian skyscraper by 1267 feet. It will be exactly 1 mile long.

The building will have 420 floors above land, which will break the largest building record, and another 40 floors below the foundation. The building will be made of the heavily researched metal known as necklogen. The building is to show the power of the company and will be built right next to the government quarters of Emperor City. It will stand over the Emperor's coronation palace. The shadow cast by the building will cover the royal courtyard where every Emperor and Empress since Emperor Ian Raskov, the first Emperor of the raskov line, has been coronated at exactly 12 PM to 2PM. The time in which all Emperors by tradition have been coronated at.

Some people speculate that she has done this in pure spite. Spite caused by the Late Emperor Josh leaving her for a DaWoadian women. She has already told the public that this is not the reason. Even though she has payed over 3 billion dollars just to buy the land where Emperor Josh was born for the foundation.

The building will be the headquarters of the multi-national company and will be the largest building not only in ralkovia but in the world. The support of the structure will not use any of Josh's engineering or construction contributions to the world except for the metal known as Necklogen.

The cost of the building is an amazing 6 trillion dollars plus an extra 3 trillion for other costs. And then an additional 5 trillion dollars for the creation of the metal known as necklogen. The metal made public by Josh has been one of the most stable artificial elements created and can only react with a few other elements.

The building will be available for public use and will be the epitome of opulence and luxury. The inside will be designed by some of the most famous architects in the world. The building will be composed of 5 buildings in all. All but one will be used for residential and light commercial purposes.

Not only is the tallest building the world record being broken but also the tallest mall, tallest restaurant, longest and largest elevator in the world, and the most expensive building in the world.

While we have only talked about the tallest building in the world. We would like to get into more detailed talks, that is why we are talking to chief engineer of this project Jordan Scalls.

Tanya: Hello Mr. Scalls

Jordan Scalls: Hello Tanya

Tanya: So how did you overcome the issue of the wind causing the building to sway.

Jordan: We did absolutely nothing at all. The metal we are using cannot bend or sway past a certain angle. If necklogen wasn't artificially made I believe we would be worshipping it rather than the Emperor. The metal has certain characteristics that make it the best in construction material we could ever use.

Tanya: Well thats interesting but is there any safeguards? The properties of necklogen are otherwise unknown

Jordan: Extensive research has proven that it is safe to use. Though yes we do have safe guards. The inside of each story has the ability to slide back and forth opposite the way the building sways within a .000001 centimeter.

Tanya: Well thats interesting. So what are some of the problems with designing buildings of this height?

Jordan: Some problems include water flow and pumping, it takes a lot of energy to make water go up a mile. We also figured a way to reuse water to make energy. On one side of the building all the water flows down it there are turbines, as the water falls down from gravity it turns theses turbines and generates about 3% of the energy used by the building.

Tanya: So how much energy will this building consume?

Jordan: Well it uses the same energy as Sevar City.

Tanya: Thats a city with 5 million people!!!!

Jordan: Yes, its tremendous, in fact Mrs. Shaina has asked government officials for the ability to build a nuclear power plant. The buildings will also use solar panels, hydroelectricity from the nearby rivers, and geothermal power from the hot springs 2 miles away. In fact the building will put in enough electricity that it will pump back enough energy to shut down the coal powerplant that runs the city.

Tanya: Amazing. So what other problems did you run into besides water and electricity?

Jordan: Well transporting building material is a huge problem. As you know Emperor City is built in the mountains and to reach it there are many tunnels, inclines, declines, valleys, and obstacles. In fact we spent almost 600 billion to create a new path through the mountains to transport the materials, vehicles, and equipment needed.

Tanya: 600 billion for a road?!?!?!?!?!?

Jordan: Its almost 200 ft wide and has a steady increase of a 10% grade.

Tanya: WOW!?!?! How much explosives did you have to use to do that?

Jordan: Well it was all supplied by the company itself for no extra cost but we used almost 5 megatons of explosives.

Tanya: WOW!!!!

Jordan: another problem was the foundation but we can't get into that

Tanya: Thank you very much. We'll have more for you next broadcast.

OOC: ...necklogen? Sound like something old ladies would use to get rid of saggy neck skin.

OOC: Ehh its my special metal. I originally called it, Ralkovium, but then I realized that it would never catch on just like Americium. So necklogen works just fine.
Also people don't comment about how its impossible to build a building that tall please, you can tell me how to better my design but I am MAGIC MAN and I have science negation ability. SO HA

We're intrested in learning more about this monumental achievement in engineering.

OOC: What about an earthquake? And if a material cannot bend or sway, it will simply fracture. Sorry, I come from a family of structural and mechanical engineers, so I sorta know how to shoot down (not literally) all these UBER-MASSIVE building designs.

OOC: Yeah... it has to bend in the wind, this would cause discomfort to those living at the top of the building. It is not impossible to build such a building, just very difficult and costly. You don't even need to find a new metal to build the new building. Steel and concrete serve the purpose.

(Well if you read my post it says it doesn't bend past a certain angle. I am studying to become an engineer, while I am not a civil engineer I am aiming for an aerospace engineer, I know buildings have to sway, necklogen just does bend past a certain point.

As for the Earthquake, ralkovia is not on an active fault line. We do have mountains but thats because ralkovia had an encounter with an alien race that terraformed the entire continent early on in its history

The entire continent ralkovia is on is terraformed actually.)

OOC: When you go past that "certain angle" in terms of wind speed though, you're screwed. Also, how are you contending with the massive gravitational pull the top floors would exert on the bottom ones? A simple steel web structure might not be sufficient here.

I advise a design something like the John Hancock Center, except with sides at a greater angle.

One of Third Spanish States Fallout Vaults is probably taller, and more useful as well.

Of course, all non-military tech of Third Spanish States is quite PMT. But anyway I second Binaria's statement. There are other ways to make a landmark of a building rather than size. The Reichstag is far from the tallest building of the world, but it still is known in both positive and negative ways.

If you really want to make a building highlighted, you should make of it a historical crossroad of your NS, because no matter how hard you try, unless you tech-wank something monstrous, there'll always be someone with a taller building, even if the different is just one inch. If you use this building as the setting for the RP a major event in your NS, if it has stood the test of time or witnessed the flow of time, it'll have much more impact and become much more interesting to read about than just claiming "I have the -est!"

Or any of ZMI's megacity thingamajigs. Or an Otagian Zeus-class arcology. Or one of those zany space elevator gizmos that are so popular with those PMT folks these days.

Mind you, anyone that needs to invoke aliens and invent a new metal to build the thing probably isn't even PMT.

(its mostly to wank off Falkasia's achievement cause I'm bored and otagia seriously leave my threads alone. You are not welcome...get the parka out of my thread.

Seriously, are you still pissed that I didn't want to RP with you in the freaking oil war thread? Because you seem to have forgotten my favorite saying of,"Forgive and Forget."

I don't like negative nellies

Between you and me otagia there should be an unspoken rule of you stay away from me and I stay away from you. Unless you would like to comment about how cool I am and since I don't see that in the near future you stay on your side of NS and I'll stay on mine. Ka-peesh?)

Not really, I'm just commenting that this would be much closer to FT than PMT, which tends to keep some level of realism. Inventing new elements that are better than everything (also known alternatively as handwavium and unobtanium), while also claiming that aliens did it, doesn't quite fit the criteria.

And again, ZMI stuff and orbital elevators are bigger.

EDIT: Also, to paraphrase the great Terry Pratchett, anyone that uses more than three exclamation points is probably off their rocker.

I've always heard that the material du jour was phlebotinum, but your mileage clearly varies. I personally like handwavium, the "v" makes it sound futuristic n'shit. Is swearing allowed here? I can never remember.
