Captain’s Quarters
IMS Dauphin

Having just finished his evening meal, Capitaine Jean-Louis Giscard reclined back in his chair, enjoying a fine gulp of Cabernet Sauvignon, straight from the bottle. As the aged wine gushed into his mouth and trickled down his throat, Captain Giscard reveled in the mixing aromas of cedar and tobacco that permeated from the wine. Many a sailor in His Majesty’s Marine Impériale might consider wine, any wine, to be a drink for the only the meek and take good pint of ale or rum over an aged fine wine any day. The Capitaine, however, considered himself an officer and a gentleman, and though proud to have earned a commission in the Naval Service, Giscard saw himself as at least a bit more refined than the thuggish but fun-loving rapscallions under his command. Sighing after a good day’s work, he hoisted his legs up and onto the finely handcrafted ebony desk that he had recently purchased from a Harari merchant at a street market on his most recent trade mission to Chisimayu, a Somali port city on the Horn of Africa.

Just as he was beginning to relax, the door burst open with a loud thud and Maître principal Andreus Reinhardt came charging in, panting and out of breath. Quickly giving Giscard a salute, Reinhardt barked gruffly, in the accent of a man of the northern, rustic province of Marienburg, “Mon Capitaine! Land, land; there is land just barely in the distance! I have seen it with my own eyes.”

“What?” enquired Captain Giscard, “Wait, slow down, there is no land here.”

“There is, Capitaine, I have seen it myself,” replied the crusty old sailor.

“Impossible. There is no land anywhere near us, not for thousands of miles, according to these charts,” Giscard said as he waved about the charts that had been issued to him by the Grand Admiral himself.

“I know, Sir. I checked over my copies twice. The charts are clearly wrong. I had the Transmissions Officer check with the homeland too, they don’t have anything on this place.”

“Alright then, Mr. Reinhardt, let’s go take a look at this supposed landmass,” Capitaine Giscard obliged, somewhat sarcastically, as he lay the bottle of wine down on the desk and rose from his chair, donning a poncho over his crisp, blue Naval officer’s uniform.

Pffft, Giscard thought to himself, there is no possible way land for thousands of miles. These country bumpkins do make good sailors, but they truly lack proper mental faculties.

The Capitaine and his Maître principal walked hurriedly out of the designated Captain’s Quarters, past a number of storage rooms and the crew living quarters, up through a maze of hallways and stairwells, until they reached deck-level. Exiting the cabin and stepping out onto the deck, Capitaine Giscard and Mr. Reinhardt approached the bow of MIS Dauphin.

The Capitaine peered out into the sky, searching for the supposed landmass that Mr. Reinhardt had almost certainly imagined. Dusk had begun to set in, the last shades of crimson fleeing the sky quickly, in favor of a dark blue-gray hue. Torrential rain flooded down upon the ship from up above, as though it was being thrust upon the crew by the gods themselves. As if this was not enough, the rough, white, crushing waves of the ocean nearly rocked the ship back and forth and bolts of lightning seemingly shook the sky, flashing brightly and temporarily blinding Capitaine Giscard as he squinted into the distance.

“Non,” He whispered to himself, “this cannot be.” Giscard peered harder, through the storm of rain and lighting, and in spite of the howling winds and the darkening sky, but as surely as the stars in the sky, he could make out a distinct border between the edge of the land and the sea. There was certainly something out there.

“Mon Dieu!” Giscard cried with joy, “Reinhardt, do you know what this means? We have discovered a new land. Perhaps a new continent, perhaps several. Can you believe this? We will be hailed as new explorers, we will most certainly receive promotions, and may well be decorated as Heroes of the Empire. We could be trumpeting the horn for a new Era, a second Era of Discovery. We may well be immortalized in the ballads of poets, the legends of bards, and the rhymes of children. And we could become rich beyond belief.”

“Yes, sir,” proclaimed Reinhardt, his eyes glinting with excitement as these realizations slowly dawned upon him.

Giscard nodded towards Reinhardt and, brimming with jubilee, was just able to utter the words, “Mr. Reinhardt, please inform the helmsman that we will be changing our route, we will be charging, forward full speed ahead. Then, please order the Transmissions Officer to make contact with the homeland. Inform him that I would like to speak with the Grand Admiral as soon as physically possible.”

“Aye, Capitaine” Reinhardt pronounced as he smartly saluted Giscard and briskly trotted off to the Communications Deck, his heart pounding as his mind pondered the endless possibilities. Perhaps he could finally be granted a commission as an officer, perhaps he could be made a colonial governor or a titled noble, perhaps he would become a rich colonial merchant in what would surely become profitable colonies of Atruria and the beginnings of a new empire.

As recently as several weeks ago, an Atrurian ship in the service of His Majesty’s Marine Impériale stumbled across a previously uncharted and undiscovered landmass. This impressive new discovery came as quite a surprise to us, but a welcome one nonetheless. The Imperial Kingdom has since engaged in, and is currently sponsoring, several expeditions both around the coast and into the interior of the continent, in order to give us an understanding of this new region. Though we know little about the area at present, we can confirm, based on our findings, that there are native peoples living there, that have previously had no or extremely minimal contact with the outside world.

Having christened this new world Giscardia, after its discoverer, the Ministère des Colonies has founded the colony of Nouvelle-Atruriée, or New Atruria. Though we are staking our own, sizeable, claim, which we certainly expect to grow as we increase in population and discover other lands nearby, we recognize that colonization of the entire continent by ourselves would be unreasonable and we expect, and even welcome the partnership of other colonial powers in governing this new continent, ripe for the picking.

Good Day,
Pierre-Joseph Rigaud

OOC: Yep, it’s another colony-fest free-for-all type deal. It’d be nice if you made a claims post longer than a single line and if you stuck around and used your colony for RP purposes, but I’m not gonna mandate anything.

I know there isn’t much space on the map right now, but as more land is discovered (a.k.a. when I’m not too lazy to update the map) I’ll add more islands and continents to colonize. Have fun.

NOTE: PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE WHO MAP OUT THEIR COLONY INSTEAD OF JUST TELLING ME WHERE IT IS

HMS King Scott

The carrier battle group chugged slowly through the blue ocean. It was a relatively clear day, so the Queen Elizabeth class carrier and her escorts were making good time on their training exercise. Commander Mattias stepped out onto the deck of the carrier. Some F-35C's were lined up along the deck, and the crew were now checking the deck for debris. Mattias joined his Master-Sergeant

"How are we doing Sergeant?" he asked, picking up a piece of paper

"We've made good headway overnight, Sir" replied the Sergeant "We ran for about three hours on full power, then came down to half power"

"Good. I -" he began, but was drowned out as an E-2 Hawkeye flew past the carrier. The door to the ship's control tower opened and a faint voice could be heard across the ship

"Sir, I Think You Should See This!" called the voice

Mattias headed up the tower and entered the control room

"What is it ensign?" he asked

"Well sir, the E-2 you sent out has discovered land - seemingly unclaimed - about eight miles off the port side"

"Are they sure?" asked Mattias, consulting the hologramatic map table in the centre of the room "It's not on any of these charts"

"No sir, I think we must have missed it when we mapped the planet"

"Hmm, alright" Mattias said, standing upright "Change course and bring us in closer to this island"

"Yes sir"

Mattias moved to a telephone attached to the wall. He picked it up

"Flight Control"

there was a pause, then

"Launch five F-35C's - send them eight miles of the port side and run a sweep for land"

He replaced the reciever, and turned to the Master-Sergeant

"Get a message over to the mainland"

"Sir" replied the Sergeant

TO: Vamperial Order of Lynion, Vamperial Grand Headmaster Woff
FROM: Unknown Lands, Aerial Admiral Harbour
Report 298
Subject: New Islands Found
Aerial Juggernought Task Force and Aerial Armadale Task Force
Task: Routine Exercise with Armadale Task Force
Commanders: Aerial Admiral Harbour and Aerial Admiral Rove

Yesterday at 0203 in the morning of Saturday, Midshipman Joshua Huns reported to Captain Lin of the Vamperial Aerial Destroyer Boxer a new discovery of islands and possibly a larger island. Captain Lin then reported to myself, Aerial Admiral Harbour about the new discovery. We then informed the Aerial Armadale Task Force to halt the current exercise and link up with the Juggernought Task Force.

We then dispatch a squadron of AU-1 Rotor-less helicopters to investigate the islands that were sighted. After a confirm report of no life on the islands, we established a base of operations on some of the scatter islands. After we secured the islands, we then dispatch scout planes to recon the region and found out that there's other nations around.

With the islands in our firm control, we dispatch our Hunter's onto the main part of the land to recon the area. The land is a jungle/bushland type terrian with decent areas that can be used for civilian use. we don't have the man power to hold much of the area but we decided to hold our position along the northern part of the main land. We have search parties heading along the eastern part and found a few islands further south.

Our forces are fairly spread out and we can only hold what we just settled into. The islands we first found are being used as a naval base for our operations. However, we can only hold what we gain and we won't be able to advance any further. I suggest that Lynion send another military detachment and settlers to settle into the lands.

The main town we have is located along the northern coast line is Harbour Town and it'll be used as our command centre. Please send the extra man power and the settler's. We are sending other scouting parties to recon the land further south but for time being we're staying put.

The factions of ralkovia all heard of this discovery and all wanted a piece for themselves. These colonies would strengthen the different noble lines and their followers considerably. The Ralkovians Longvians headed to the chain of islands in the deep north, the ralkovians Selenex headed to a small outcropping in the middle. The raskovs headed to an island west of the large land mass and east of the long island.

In the south the Colonial Government took a large section for the use of the government. Of course battles would soon be waged as each of the different colonizing ships and ralkovians fought. While ralkovia was still one nation it was racked by different cuts in its one united landmass. The government claimed that the once named, Peoples Empire of ralkovia was now the united state of ralkovia but there was no truth in that lie. It was more of a disunited states but it would have been appropriate to call them disputed territories and quadrants in mismatched land masses attacking one another states.

Ralkovia was still strong in the fact that its national military was still running like a cohesive group but it could take one state without another one popping up. The government had given up on any hope of uniting and instead just decided that it would wait for the nobles to kill themselves off and then the military would pick up the pieces. That was why the military would need to hold Minot and use it as a springboard to wipe off nobles control in the region.

The nobles on the other hand would use their landmasses to spread their control and save their followers. It would be a bloody war as over 70 ships flying different colors headed to the region taking their proverbial claims.

Unnamed Island, Colony Of Ustio North

The Battlegroup was at anchor, and Royal Marines from the group had already been ashore and checked out the main area of the island. Many lush forests, but there was a large clearing not far from the shore. Once the troopships arrived, they disgorged large numbers of U.A troops, alongside builders who had been drafted in. Bulldozers quickly flattened the land in the clearing, and the troops and builders set to work putting down a makeshift runway. A wooden tower was quickly erected and fitted with a rudimentary radar and radio, to act as a control tower. Soon they would have a base camp from which to continue their exploration of the island.

"We pulled out of those islands?" started Harbour as they walked through the make shift town.

"We had to pull the troops out of those islands in order to maintain order," replied the captain as the Lynion Hunters were building barracks to house the men. "We also needed the extra firepower to hold this region. Unless you haven't notice sir, there's a warring nation nearby and if they decide to make a full scale war, then we won't be able to hold everything," started the captain as they suddenly stopped.

"Fair enough skipper," started Harbour as he watched a freighter unload equipment. "Have our freighters with one of the Task Forces head back to Lynx Colony and get what equipment they can find. Also, send a party to Union to gather more equipment and civilians to arrive here within the month," ordered Harbour.

"Sir there's friendly forces in the region," started a runner as they stopped at the make-shift dockyard as more freighters started to dock into the harbour.

"Any idea who it could be?" replied Harbour.

"No sir, want us to dispatch an aircraft to check it out?" asked the runner.

"Sure,"

Half an hour later

The Dingo Fighter Jet was soaring through the skies as it started to come towards an island that was already claimed. His objective was to find out the nationalty of the colonists and report back to base. If he was lucky, they would've picked her up on radar soon and radio in to her rather than her radioing into them.

In this fleet is three Xing XXVI and their compliment. The islands to the south will be an initial base of exploration and survey. A number of smaller support subs will also be sent. Landing craft will be deployed from the Xings. A small air defence surface fleet will join with the Xing's and other subs when they can reach them.

A convoy of Kiravian vessels lay in wait offshore.

On the southern portion of Insula Giscania, the island that was partly occupied by Gisca Naval Colony, a few prefabricated buildigs and trailers were being dragged ashore. They would become the city of Ádencia, the administrative centre of the colony. KE construction crews would arrive later on to blast out a harbour, and begin building a port, military facilities, and infrastructure.

West Coast of Iscardia, Kiravian Empire

Two weeks later, the convoy, minus the military support ships, rounded the Mephrasian claim, and arrived on Iscardia's western coast.

The occidental part of the country, having a longer coastline, was given priority for settlement. The ships of the Kiravian expedition carried 5,000 troops, and 2,000 government officers and contractors. Their mission was to chart the coast, and survey the land in order to report back to the Cambra áu Cólontor.

The Royal Fleet had been sailing for a few days before finally finding the island that The Commonwealth had claimed. Apparently, they were not alone to their fortune, the Kiravians were in the area as well, which would make a smoother colonization period for both peoples. After finding a suitable harbour on the southern half of the island. The built up of docks, government posts, and a few houses and towers would protect the settlement.

After a suitable buildup at the Naval Colony, 5 ships loaded with 7,500 passengers, supplies, and building materials set out for the middle of the coastal claim to start building up their already surveyed land. Their mission was to found a costal settlement, and then work inland and see if there is any future place to build a capital. If not, then the original settlement will become the capital of the colony.

Governor Thorus Vürmec, the newly-appointed Governor of Iscardia, waited with his charges at the Midocean Islands, in he Pelagic Ocean.

A severe storm had thankfully bypassed the islands, allowing Vürmec's fleet to soon be on its way to Iscardia.

The fleet consisted of the colonial transports Bæsensar, Linderium, and Danensär, and carried 15,000 Kiravians who had signed on in Saar-Silverda. They would be brought to the West Coast of Iscania to found her first permanent settlement.

Vürmec was in an Iscania [Midoceanian principal city] pub, overlooking the three ships in the port below. His attendant came in with a government-sealed envelope, and said, "Sèr, Zoingo has founded a colony just north of ours."

"Excellent! I should look forward to working with them. How soo can we get unerway?"

East Coast of Harmanito

The storm that bypassed the islands, had slowed down the fleet of ships that headed towards the coast of the Zoingonian settlement plans. Never the less, the ships slowly made their way to the shores. As soon as the ships landed, an immediate urgency to have a land grab commenced, followed by the construction of the costal areas of the settlement.

Harmanito, Now the City of Imassion

The newly constructed housing in the center of the city was home to the govenor of Harmanito untill another suitable site could be found. Govenor Von Thallen looked at his temporary house, and chuckled to himself.

"Well, this isn't a mansion, but Amsteldam wasn't built in a day."

He sat down at a desk that just so happened to be loaded off of the ships. He began writing the supplies needed, colonial population count, and the progress made before a courier brought him news.

"Sir, the Kiravians are making their way to our colony right away..." he said.

"Good, I want the housing on the docks temporary suspended and be moved to the west side." the govenor ordered. "We need to clean up the docks if we are expecting visitors, and we also need to leave room for businesses and drydocks."

"Do you want me to deliver this to the building comission?" the courier asked.

"Yes please." the governor replied.

BANG!

A swath of the GNC coastline was blown into the sky, raining down soil, sand, and stones ranging in size from pebbles to go-karts.

After the scene was declared safe, derdgers moved in. The Imperial Engineering Service was creating an artificial bay in Gisca to serve as the harbour of a naval base. The island would only have to endure two more of these detonations before work on the harbour could begin.

The ralkovian fleets each arrived in their staked out area. Colonization began immediately as each worker acted like a cog on a machine pushing it as it turned moving it forward.

Overhead a few ralkovian darts from the different factions staked each other's progress. The Ralkovian Military, slow to colonize had just arrived. At least 20 AFLA fighters flew above the military ships protecting them from enemy attack.

One of the other faction fighters flew a bit to close and the fighter erupted into an explosion as a PENTUP laser from the military ship let loose on it.

Composed of a small group of military vessels, along with a few surveying craft and a small group of transport ships, it was designed to lay the beginnings of the framework that would eventually see the complete development of the new colony. As it neared the continental landmass, the fleet split, as one group moved towards the peninsular claim, while the other headed for the island claim.

Initial satellite reports suggested that the claim mainly consisted of grassy plains, forests, and gently rolling hills. It appeared on first glance that there would be few mineral resources, though some were optimistic on that front. As the two groups eventually found their targets, and small groups began to disembark, the beaches began to fill with activity. Small camps were being set up for the short term as wide eyed explorers began to plot their various expeditions into the still unknown wilderness.

At another point on the beach, a small group huddled around large satellite maps, and began to sketch out a rough plan of the colonial capital, simply referred to at the moment as Newtown, to be situated on the channel between the mainland and the island. Lines slowly appeared to form themselves into streets and docks, while others began to mark off public squares and residential districts. As the sun began to set, the meticulous group continued to create a plan which in a short time would lead the way to prosperity for hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Mephrasian citizens.

OOC: If you don't mind, i've just spotted the long island on the far left of your map. In time, I may also claim the small island to the right of it. If you're putting nation's claims as colours, then could you please colour the long island on the left Red, for the United Kingdom Of Ustio North

Edit: You're welcome to colonize the rest of the similarly-sized island on the opposite side of the map or anywhere else, though.

OOC: No, sorry Allanea, the long island has already been colonised by me. The discussion over the small island is that Ralkovia wanted to claim it, but saw I had said I might have already. Seeing as how i already had the long island, I decided to forego colonising the smaller island to the right of the long island.

Unnamed Island, Colony Of Ustio North

The base was ready. Lines of tents & small wooden shacks stood along the flight line, alongside the Control Tower. Several marine scout parties had ventured further into the jungles, mapping locations as they went.

A blip on the radar appeared. The controllers pounced, not giving the aircraft a moment

"Unidentified Aircraft, you are entering territory under the control of the armed forces of The United Kingdom Of Ustio North. Please state your intentions"

"This is Vamperial Royal Air Force of Lynion calling Ustio North," started the pilot as he start to make a pass over the area. "I'll be turning around. I'm only checking out whose down here,"

OOC: Could I please state that I've claimed and colonised the northern part of the mainland. I've only being given some of the islands in the top left hand corner but I'm interested why other people are claiming parts of northern part of the mainland when i already landed troops there

Commander Mattias stood in the tower. He had been tasked with remaining on the island to oversee it's colonisation, while his Lieutenant would take the fleet to aid Captain Mitchell's Battlegroup hold off the invasion of Greal. The radar controller turned to him

"Vamperial Royal Air Force, Sir" he said

"Hmm, there must be more to this island" Mattias pondered "Okay, inform the pilot that Lynion forces have permission to use this airstrip if they need to"

"Sir" said the controller "Vamperial Royal Air Force Pilot, thank you for making your intentions clear. Assuming that you aren't alone, Lynion forces may use this airstrip in case of emergencies"

"You sure about this?" started the commander as a Vamperial Headmaster came onto the deck.

"Intel reports that there's someone on our claimed lands," started the Headmaster. "We got orders to drive them off and escort the colonists to our claimed lands,"

"What about the new weapon sir?"

"The cannon is going to be used on the Hutson and the Valiant," replied the Headmaster. "Inform the drop ships* to prepare to transport the equipment to our units,"

Novisar, Iscardia, Kiravian Empire

The Imperial Star flew proudly over Novisar ['New Settlement' in Coscivian], the frst Kiravian settlement in the great dominion of Iscardia.

Novisar was a well-planned town, consisting of several hundred modular homes, a few government buildings, and a half-built port.

The port was the main cocern right now, but the foundations of buisnesses, a citadel, warehouses, and larger residences were clearly visible.

In the Colonial Capitol, Governor Vürmec and his advisors were looking over plans and orders sent from Kartika. An additional 2,000 settlers, mostly Gërev craftsmen, machinists, and construction specialists, had just set sail from Saar-Silverda to shore up Novisar's economy. Two more settlements had been approved on the West Coast: Eridsula Hundred, and Cólsylsär. Another, Saar-Iscardia, had been approved as a port on the East Coast.

Military and civilian personnel were alsow orking outside the walls of Novisar. Some, mostly military men and contractors, were mapping the interior. Others were setting up farming operations in the land granted to them by the Empire in exchange for signing on to settle the colony.

OOC: I finally thought of a name for my island!

Dinadan Island, Hoel Military Base

The base, a simple single strip with makeshift hangars and aircraft sat in the blistering sunlight lining it, was alive with activity, unlike what it had been when they first arrived. Mechanics and soldiers alike stood around, t-shirts tied around their waists and BDU's discarded in their quarters due to the heat, the sounds of Elvis Presley's Suspicious Minds (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdT9g9pWZjA&feature=related) drifting across the humid air. They were pretty idle at the moment. Builders had just finished erecting a makeshift dockyard, and some were beginning to work on the foundations of a small town.

Eridsula Centlin, Iscardia

Eridsula Centlin [Eridsula Hundred] was a plantation settlement, and was mainly Anglev in ethnic composition. Fields were being marked out by indentured immigrant servants from Anglin, while the wealthy owners and middle-class support workers laboured inside.

Novisar, Iscardia

The supply vessels had arrived with 2,000 Gërev settlers, bringing the total population of Novisar to 17,000. The 30% of the new arrivals had been picked traight up from Valëka's immigrant docks, but the rest were mostly from Upper Kirav.

As Governor Vürmec, himself a Gërev, put it:

These Colonists of the Gentaric Peoples, are of such diverse professions as Metalworkers, Masons, Machinists, Carpenters, and Operators of Construction Appliances, all of which are sorely needed in this Settlement.

Port Blackfield, Gisca Naval Colony

The military dockyard at Port Blackfield had been constructed with military efficiency. The GNC now contained four settlements: Port Blackfield, Ádencia (The administrative centre), New Kēnau (A residential community for active soldiers), Vorpelsär (Which would house base support facilities, and buisness conessions), and Ingrisór (A retirement settlement for soldiers who had served on the base and their families).

Novisar, Iscardia

The town was getting larger. The port was complete, as were the roads leading out of the city, a few shops and offices, and the walls of the citadel. The Gërev were responsible for this increase in productivity.

Farms were getting started in Tabansór, a small village near Novisar, growing mostly cale and potatos, the food staples of the Kiravian Empire.

In Novisar, a ship arrived under the flag of the West Pacifica Company, a colonial mercantile corporation that had recently taken an interest in minerals in the Ralkovian Islands and Regia Ísabela. It brought a team of prospectors to search the interior for any valuable ores for export to Great Kirav.

Imassion, Harmanito, Giscardia

The City of now 20,000 people was becoming a true colonial city. The main roads in the city were finally paved with a light cobblestone that was lighter on a persons feet. The churches across the town tolled brightly every day with very rythmical tune in Central Square. The social lives of the colonists was filled with gatherings, festivals, and balls nightly. The docks and market places were filled with lovely goods from across Zoingonian colonies around the globe. Now it was Harmanitos time to become profitable....

Town of Rindalin, Interior of Harmanito

At the meeting of 2 swift moving rivers, the small town of 2000 people was growing fast due to its recent findings of cash crops that could grow on the rich soil. Many varieties of vegetables, as well as the popular wheat and barley, could grow in such climate of Harmanito. Recently more inland, some prospectors were loooking at the possible source of iron, as well as silver. But for now, these claims remained unconfirmed. And the colony growed ever steadly.

Interior of Iscardia

In the uninhabited hinterland of Iscardia, the WPC prospecting team discovered deposits of wulfenite, iron, copper, and, most importantly, natural gas.

Once these findings were reported to the Company and to the Colonial government, deeds, permits, and settlers were soon to follow.

In addition to mineral rescources, surveyors had determiend that Iscardia had considerable hydropower potential.

Saar-Iscardia

10,000 people lived in Saar-Iscardia on the East Coast. Here, industry was expected to take root in the near future in the form of maritime construction, trade, and offshore oil drilling.

The Empire did not want Iscardia to become a farm colony. It had too much territory and potential for that, but there remained the issue of finding an industry or commodity that could jump-start Iscardia's economy.

Harmanito

All along the interior as well as the middle of the country, one could look at the colony and say that its course was very agrarian. There were fields that streched for miles around with many lucrative crops, the most recently discovered one, rubber, and a few mineral deposits that had indeed contained not only iron and silver, but a few emerald deposits, as well as coal. Except for cities along the coast like Imassion, the new capital of Rindalin, and a few new towns in the interior, the population was mostly rural.

The citizens of the colony had a very 1700's style, as they did not need at this moment, all the lucratives of the motherland (except a few essentials, like modern medicine). A few areas of the colony had power supplies such as Imassion, but other than that, the charm and look of the cities was kept up. Of course, law and order were not neglected in this crucial time period, as batalions of soliders marched through population centers to keep the peace.

They had the raw materials, they had the goods, but high-yield manufacturing had yet to reach the colony of Harmanito, and few were willing to invest in a colony that had still not reached a point where its economy has taken off smoothly....

And soon, a highly valued material would be discovered in the lower region of Harmanito, one in which these 'old world settlers' would have nothing to process with at all. And the boom began....with the tiny silkworm....

Lamoni
17-10-2008, 05:58
Lemnos City, Lamoni

It was a time of great jubilation in one of Lamoni's satellite command centers. One of their observation satellites had just discovered a new landmass, and after some debate, it had been decided by the President (who had conducted his part of the internal negotiations with both Senate and the Chamber of Deputies via satellite communications, as he was still embarked on his worldwide tour of nations) that the Free Republic would colonize an island in the eastern part of the new discovery.

The colony would be known as Oreston. When the opportunity to voluntarily become a colonist on Oreston became available, the phone lines that had been made available to register Lamonian citizens for colonization had been swamped. Already, a new cabinet level position was being created in order to represent the new colony, and a seat had been delegated for the new colony in the Lamonian Chamber of Deputies, as well as two seats in the Lamonian Senate. It was decided that there would be 25,000 Lamonian colonists that would have the first right to settle on Hawk island, and a governmental structure for the colony was already being drawn up.

The colonists would have their own unicameral state legislature; which would be called the Colonial Assembly. The colony would also have it's own supreme court, as well as a colonial governor that was elected by the people of the colony, but had to be approved by the Free Republic, as well. The colonial government would be meeting in pre-fabricated buildings, at first, until the colony stabilized enough to build it's own buildings from local materials. The Lamonian colonists would also live, work, and play in pre-fabricated buildings, under the protection of both Lamonian military forces, and a Colonial Militia. Initially, the Colonial Militia would consist of 5,000 men and women who had already had experience in either the regular Lamonian Army, or in the Civil Guard (OOC: the Civil Guard is the Lamonian equivalent of the Army Reserve).

As this would be Lamoni's first colony, much would be learned from the process of taming this new land, but it was hoped that the fact that the Lamonian nation had originally been put together from scratch by refugees would provide some valuable insights into the colony making process.

The new colonists of Oreston were loaded onto Lamonian merchant vessels, which were to be escorted to Oreston by Lamonian Naval warships. The name for the colonial capitol of Oreston had already been decided, and it was to be called Silenia. As for the location, Silenia was slated to be located on the middle of the eastern coastline of Oreston. All of the rest of Oreston would spread out from there; and it was quite possible that more Lamonian citizens would be allowed to become citizens in Oreston as the colony was developed. LAIX Arms would also have a presence on Oreston, the vast tracts of available land there were ideal for the manufacture of their weapons, and LAIX Arms was expected to be a major player in the economy of Oreston.

Eventually, the first Colony ships were loaded, and they took off for Oreston with their Lamonian Naval escorts forming a protective ring around them.

---

OOC: "Hawk Island" is the Lamonian name for the island that Oreston is located on.

The Lamonian claim (Oreston) is in grey:

Saar-Iscardia

West Pacifica Co. ships filled the colony's western harbour. They were carrying mining equipment, road-building equipment, vehicles, building materials, and 6,000 contract workers. They had come to begin extracting the gas and ferroalloys of the interior. For this, however, they would need roads and infrastructure. The Company was willing to invest in building processing plants in Saar-Iscardia and Novisar eventually, which would generate hundreds of jobs. Building roads to the generous tracts of land that the Company had rented would accelerate the settlement of the interior.

Though dignificant, it wasn't a major find, and would probably not be enough to build a first-world economy off of.

Ellursär

As immigrants arrived, agriculture was becoming more diverse. Other than the ever-important cale and potatos, new Iscardian farmers were planting gourds, pears & quince, certain Kiravian nuts, and sugar beets.

Ellursär was a voluntarily collectivised farming community. It grew cale, wheat, and tubers for its own sustenance, and furit and nuts for export. Many communities like such existed throughout the Empire, and were usually associated with an extended family or a particular ethnic group, though this one was not. In such a community, all citizens had a say in the governence of the settlement and the distribution of the farm proceeds and community rescources. Private property did exist, Kiravians could not live any other way, but the citizens were subjected to group decisions.

Around Ellursär were other farming settlements: Villages where farmers dwelt when not in the fields, Commercial or Familial plantations, and isolated farmhouses.

Ville-de-Faucon
Île-de-Faucon, Nouvelle-Atruriée

With the aid of a crewman, the newly-promoted Contre-Amiral Jean-Louis Giscard hopped out of the small landing boat and onto the colony of New Atruria, his new flaship, MIS Hydra moored to an anchor off in the distance. In his pocket, Giscard contained two very important documents. The first was a direct order from the Grand Admiral of the Marine Impérial, commanding Giscard to take charge of the newly-created Giscardia Squadron, the naval force intended to serve Atrurian interests within the colony. The second document was a royal warrant, whereby His Imperial Majesty, the King had, himself, granted Giscard the honor of serving as the first Gouverneur of the colony of Nouvelle-Atruriée.

Having sent scouting parties ahead of him to thoroughly map the region, Giscard had landed on Hawk Island, or as it was known to the Atrurians: Île-de-Faucon. With the advice of his longtime military aides and the new civilian additions to his advisory staff that his position as Governor allowed, Giscard had earlier determined that this location, on the southwestern shores of the Île-de-Faucon, would make a splendid port-city, from which to rule over his new colonial domain. Already, naval engineers had begun construction on a harbor and troops from the Korps Mariners had begun the construction of a fortress on the outskirts of the town-to-be. The first wave of immigrants, clearly a hardier breed than most, had landed some weeks before and, without any form of military protection or government aid, begun establishing their place in this new world. The town, which Gouverneur Giscard planned to charter as Ville-de-Faucon, once it grew into city status, currently consisted of a number of small, rugged hamlets and centers of subsistence agriculture, barely connected by poorly constructed dirt roads.

Giscard had other plans for the capital, however. This farming business could happen elsewhere in his colonies, but the Gouverneur determined that his capital city should be a grand commercial center, a thriving metropolis from which to dictate the laws of the land and to fill the coffers of the Imperial Kingdom. To this end, Giscard had reached heavily into his own bank accounts, filled to the brim with lavish gifts from the Monarchy thanks to his discoveries, and hired hordes upon hordes of architects, engineers, and construction companies to create this city.

But Ville-de-Faucon was not alone in its rapid development. Already, on the mainland portion of Nouvelle-Atruriée, towns and villages, mainly commercial ventures sponsored by joint stock companies, had begun to spring up across the coast. Lured to the new colonies by rumors of big game, furs, abundant fishing, and the very real possibility of gold, these trading companies intended to make a killing off of the natural resources of the region before anyone else did.

And this was just the tip of the iceberg. Some had been swayed by promises of a chance to leave their old lives behind and get a new start, with a clean slate. Some had been taken in by the advertisements of the joint-stock companies that proclaimed land and riches galore for those who chose to settle the new world. Some still, were motivated by their patriotic desires to serve on the front lines of the expansion of the glorious Atrurian Empire. A small, rugged segment were motivated purely by a thirst for adventure and a love for the unknown. Whatever their reasons, it was plain to see that a massive tide of immigrants would soon wash upon the shores of Nouvelle-Atruriée.

OOC: Sorry, my week's been a bit hectic

IC: Newtown, New Avedonia

As the weeks began to turn into months, a clearer picture of the New Avedonian landscape formed. Its every stream, hill, and valley had been surveyed, and it appeared as though the land had been blessed with fertility. Soon much of the land had been parceled out, and was being offered to those who were willing to cultivate the land. Mephras was always in need of more farmland to fill the stomachs of the densely populated metropole. Soon the entire colony would be doted by small homesteads, growing various grains and fruits.

Ships had been docking at the newly constructed docks at a feverish pace. Soon Newtown was beginning to actually look like a real settlement, and restaurants and shops were springing up in the center of the town. Some of the main roads had even begun to be paved, and a plan for a colonial road system had even begun to take place. Near the harbor, plans were being laid out for the Vice-regal Palace, where soon an elegant and expansive house would appear, a suitable seat for Her Majesties Representative in New Avedonia.

In the metropole, a special commission had been formed to evaluate the new land, and to see what relations it would hold to the empire for the time being. Until the colony began to become economically self sufficient, it would be until direct control of the National Forum, however as it grew, it would be eligible for full representation in Euphova, as well as the right to set up it's own colonial assemblies to manage most of it's own affairs. But for now, the colony of approximately 60,000 people would have to settle for Euphovan bureaucrats as a government.

With these words, the first session of the Iscardian House of Burgesses was begun. The House would consist of the leaders of each Countyship in the Colony, and would operate as the legislative body under the Governor.

Iscardia now had 94,382 people. Not only did this signal for more colonial self-management, but it also brought in a new sector to the economy: Consumer retail. West Pacifica, Milana Black, and other shipping companies brought the neccessities of life to the colony, where they were sold in shops. Now a merchant class could emerge. If a valuable export commodity could be found, the ships could return to Saar-Silverda or Verdisar with more than just money.

Rindalin, Harmanito

The small city was growing at an ever so monotone pace, with a slow incoming populace that soon started to fill the city and its surrounding countryside with newfound wealth of its mineral and agricultural potential. The new govenor's office was just built there, away from the now croweded, but beautiful, city of Imassion. The countries first newspaper was to be set in Rindalin, and its first headline read:

Harmanito Post
Headlines from across the colonies

The "Greatest Find since the discovery of Giscardia"!
A few weeks ago, Sarah Wenxelton was just a poor, widowed lady that was coming to the Harmanito in a South Eastern town of Ulan-ude to reinvent herself and start all over again. She owned a small corn farm along with her son and 2 daughters when she made a stunning discovery. Shifting through here small growing sprouts, on the edge of here claim, she spotted a few small "white catipillars on my leaves" on the sprouts. Assuming they were pests, she immediately ran to town to seek the help of a pest control agent.

Arriving back at her farm was David Yarmon, the pest control agent, as well as Hindrick Truval, an Entomoligist. When Hindrick investigated this, weird catipillar, he ran out of the fields and burst into the house crying.

"Mrs. Wenxelton! You have not been placed with a money looser, but a money gainer!"

Hindrick had gone on to say that Sarah had accidentally discovered the silkworm in her backyard. Sarah paid them with the money she had to keep quiet as she set up a few sheds to grow silkworms. She was sucessful for a little while in keeping it underwraps, but when she brought the material to market, people were suspicious...and later discovered the find. Soon, all of the south as well as eastern parts of Harmanito have been dubded "silkworm habitable" and many are seeking to make a profit. However, issues have been raised.

For the most part, the factor is where can the nearest textile plants be found? Certainly there are not any in Harmanito for people to ship this lucrative substance to. Zoingo maybe? Wrong, by the time the silk would reach the motherland, it would be unproccesable. Another colony? Possibly, Pasquan de Norte has a few textile mills, but such places might quickly be overwhelmed. Dortiner has textile mills that are closer, yet most cannot switch their vital cotton production to silk just to manufacture the silk. For now, this resource will just have to wait in the stockhouses.

As for the rest of Giscardia, the likelyhood of the "migration of this domestic species is retatively low, this temperature range that Harmanito sits in is perfect, and its only food, the mulberry, thrives in this valey region." says Hindrick, the man responsible for the find.

Maybe Giscardia cannot benifit in the production of the silk, but our closest neighbor Iscardia, could benifit in manufacturing of this worldwide sensational commodity.

Novisar, Iscardia

Governor Vürmec read the Harmanito Post.

In fact, he had the diplomat assigned to Iscardia translate it into Gërex Coscivian for ease of reading. He felt it was his duty to keep in touch with the affairs of the allied colony in the north. Needless to say, he was quite pleased by what he found.

Haramanito had found a valuable export commodity. Silk. Currently, the Empire's silk supply came mainly from expesnsive, underproductive silkworks in Kyshynska, or were imported from the small acrhipelagic republic of AHSCA. As Kyshynska did not account for much, and the former Kiravian Commonwealth state of AHSCA was reeling from a hurricane, the time was ripe for the colonial outscourcing of silk.

The article was quite right. As a close neighbour of Haramanito, Iscardia shared the climatic and ecological factors for optimum silk cultivation. THis was what could make Iscardia important to the Imperial economy. It could elevate the province from a chain of coastal plantations to an economically-stable country.

He sealed the translated copy into an envelope, left the Governor's Mansion, and set off for the Commerce Secriat. They would want to hear about this.

He opened up his reports to find that scientists had confirmed that this narrow strip of land between the top of Harmanito and the bottom of Iscardia was the only place in the entire Giscardia where silk was found, and he was supprised to find that in Ulánüdè, the first silk textile mill was in progress.

I am supprised to find that such a valued commodity could have sprung up so quickly. I am happy that once again, Kirav and Zoingo have benifited mutually from an astounding find. We were so shure that there was no other place on Earth where such a resource could be found. As such, we should be weary of potential "onlookers" who may not take this so nicely of us finding and having a monopoly on these friendly bugs of ours. I would also like to ask if any dyes have taken root in Iscardia yet? If not or not that many, we have a few plantations that are willing to offer a few of their plants so both colonies may benifit from dying the silks.

Ex cearulo
The room was small, dark, and crowded with the stuff of men and machines. Packed into rows lined up against a spotless white wall were banks of computer monitors, and manning them, ranks of faithful devotees. The only light that shone in the chamber was the light of the LCD displays, gently covering the faces and hands of those who served, and little else. The room was small, dark, and crowded.

One among these many would, today, experience not just the menial routine, but yet see something new. Something different. Naturally, he had to report this change to a superior as soon as it was witnessed, for change was not a thing that sat well with the people who manned these computers. This change, however, sat very well indeed with their superiors. As the head artisan, for that was the caste of these people, they were of the artisan caste, bent to observe what his underling had requested he see, he was pleased. Pleased because he knew he had done his duty, and that his purpose here had been justified. He would report this little thing to his superiors.

So did this incident pass up the many levels of authority until the matter reached the hands of the Pudite Foreign Affairs Officer, Mr. White. When it was delivered to him, he looked down at it immediately, for it was marked urgent. Opening it, he saw that it was a map. Or rather, a computer printout of a map, complete with coordinates. This was a map that displayed a large chain of islands; an archipelago, sitting deep within international waters. Attached to it was a short dossier, regarding the political nature of this archipelago, that is, it's lack of one. It was largely unclaimed and empty. Also attached was, thanks to the document's brief sojourn through the Imperial Armed Forces offices, a short report on the forces required to ensure security of a proposed area of claim, and reports on the possible forces of those situated nearby.

Checking the coordinates detailed on the satellite image, he discovered that they were the same as the coordinates associated with a recently received foreign communique regarding the opening of land for claims. It was usual and expected for smaller, less populous, less efficient nations to, wisely, understand their limitations and, when discovering a new landmass, open it for colonization by others rather than exercising the outright annexation the whole of the thing. In these cases, it was usually the Dominion's practice to ignore these lesser peoples, but in this case, as these two invitations came at once, the Foreign Affairs Officer decided that it was not a usual situation. At the very least, he wouldn't have to have the images sent back down to the Armed Forces offices for evaluation, that would save time...

Later that day, the forces of Fleet Admiral Oksentei Sidorove, at that moment patrolling the northern shores of the Pudite colony-state of East Chitzeland, were given orders to rendezvous with an Imperial Army convoy bound for the unnamed archipelago, and ensure the safety of the shoreline of the Emperor's claim - outlined in the orders - as well as the safety of the Imperial Army ships and men as they were transported through and about the claims of the foreigner, and through open waters.

So it was that, in three days time the fleet of Admiral Sidorove did encounter the heavy transports and small escorts of the Imperial Army fleet, and proceeded to begin the journey towards what had been dubbed, by the Foreign Affairs Office, the islands of SEPTVMDECIM.

In seven days, approximately three-dozen large, pristine white ships would be within view of what was to be known as the islands of 'Seventeen', based wholly on the sixteen official Imperial colonial possessions preceding it. These ships would proceed to unload one complete brigade of Imperial Army mechanized infantry, as well as a battalion of Imperial Navy naval infantry that had accompanied the escorting ships. Following these deployments, the ships would begin to unload fifteen thousand farmer- and artisan-caste laborers, and their equipment and materials. It would be these people that would clear the way for continued Imperial deployment to the area, and eventually, the extraction of any natural resources found to be in abundance.

In seven days.

The Lamonian colonial convoy had arrived at Oreston, and had begun to offload it's passengers and cargo. While the buildings were being constructed, people would be living in tent cities, and all able bodied adults were required to assist in the construction of the Pre-fabricated buildings, to include manufactured homes.

All colonial families would live in manufactured houses, as these could be constructed more quickly than regular houses, and still maintain a degree of quality. For the first few years, all buildings in Oreston were likely to be single story, as it was quicker and more economical to construct the buildings in such a way. With such a small initial population, it was also unlikely that there would be problems with overcrowding for many years to come.

Outside of the city limits, Lamonian military engineers were busy making an Air Force base, a Naval base, and an Army base; in addition to the base for the Colonial Militia. These facilities would be expanded upon in later times, and eventually, new more modern facilities would be built. For the foreseeable future, these facilities would serve Oreston, and the Lamonian interests that Oreston represented.

Northern Iscardia

The roads built by the WPC barely crossed the mulberry-rich regions of Northern Iscardia. In preparation for the oncoming silk boom, the government had begun building its own roads into the area.

With Kiravian roads came incûm, or roadside stops. These tiny settlements usually consisted of a police station, a motel, a parking lot, and some means of food service. They did, however, have the lovely side effect of blossoming into larger towns, and even cities.

Isle of Stars, New Avedonia

While most of the development in the colony centered on the northern mainland holding, soon interest began to grow surrounding the large island to the south. Colonial Administrators in Newtown had heard of the luck of Kirav and Zoingo in their colonies, and some suspected that the latitude of the Isle of Stars could produce similar results. Eager speculators rushed to search the island for mulberry trees and the elusive caterpillar that might grant them fortune, yet, after a few weeks, the outlook was quite bleak. None had been found on the island. Others with slightly more capital attempted to bring their own silkworms and set up plantations, however the initial production levels were somewhat disappointing.

Overall, it appeared as though Mephrasian silk would have to come from another source, and the Isle of Stars would need to find another livelihood. As in the mainland, simple farms were beginning to form, as well as small market towns. Other people turned to the sea to for wealth, a pursuit which seemed to be successful. Soon regulations were being drawn up to make sure that fishing could remain both profitable and sustainable on the Isle of Stars.

Newtown, Mainland New Avedonia

As the town became larger and larger, ever new amenities began to appear, with many of the new leading citizens investing in the construction of an opera house, so that the arts and culture could develop and flourish in even this small outpost of Mephras. Near the harbor, another type of development was taking place, as concrete and steel were beginning to take the form of a naval base, a complex that would hopefully perpetually ensure the security of this outpost from those who would wish to seize the assets of the Mephrasian Empire.

IC:Newtown, New Avedonia

The Viceregal palace was abuzz with activity, as news had just broke that new lands had recently been discovered to the north of New Avedonia. Most interesting of these new lands was a vast island, approximately the size of the entire colony as it stood. Found by a stray fishing boat, the unlikely explores had reported that the island seemed to be heavily forested, and quite vast. Within hours, countless more New Avedonian craft were swarming the island, including several official colonial crafts, intent on securing the entire island as a Mephrasian claim. Flags began to appear on several of the shores, and naval craft began to patrol, and send a subtle reminder of who had found the land first.

All of a sudden, New Avedonia had increased in value by double to the crown, and it appeared as though this outpost would soon play an even more important role in the overall imperial system. Soon news would hit the mainland, and even more colonists, filled with dreams, would embark for these new lands, to enrich both themselves and the Empire.

IC:

The Ixanian Empire had developed a fondness for the colonization of unknown and unsettled lands that no one had expected but which no one save for a few would criticize and, with this knowledge in mind, the Ixanian Empire stumbled upon Giscardia which was a new continent being divided like a pie amongst the nations of the world. Her Majesty's Government decided that it was in the best interests of the Ixanian nation to take part in the Scramble for Giscardia as the newspapers called the whole event. Eventually, after some discussion and manuvering, a large piece of Giscardia was taken under the wing of the Ixanian Empire as the newest colony and subsequently the newest member of any colonial-related organizations that dealt with intercolonial relations between the thriving colonies of Ixania and, by extension, their relations with the mother nation that bore their citizens. A man by the name of Zerin Veldahar had been appointed to the post of the colony's governor and he was swiftly sent with an entourage of soldiers and colonists to officially claim Ixanian Giscardia as a colony of the Empire and that the first settlement was to be christened with the name of Port Hope in honor of the colonists' hopes for a good life in this strange new world. Within the span of several weeks, numerous settlements had been established including the largest one of them all, Port Hope, from which Veldahar and his associates managed the affairs of the bustling new colony.

The Kiravian Empire had wired telegraphs to Novisar several hours earlier, notifying Governor Vürmec that they had extended their Giscardian claims to several newly discovered areas.

At Port Blackfield, a group of long-range frigates were being prepared. Their mission was to visit each of the new territories and set up a garrison base.

The six territories had been chartered by the Emperor-Regent as:

Urenia (The claim above Altoplata)
Nova Thysklin (The claim above Mephras's island)

Oreston established, looks for partners in Giscardia

At a ceremony attended by the Vice-President of the Free Republic of Lamoni, the Lamonian colony of Oreston was established. At the ceremony, the colonial charter was signed by both the Vice-President, and the Colonial Governor; and the Lamonian and Oreston Colonial Flags were raised.

A dance followed the ceremony, with Cake and Champagne flowing. Tomorrow, the elected colonial government of Oreston will begin it's historic first meeting, and is largely expected to begin it's work of creating laws for the colony. The first expected non-binding resolution is expected to be agreed upon unanimously.

For those who are not in the colonial "know," this first resolution states that the Lamonian Colony of Oreston should look to establish free trade relations with the Mephrasian colony of New Avedonia. If the rumors about an Ixanian colony in Giscardia turn out to be true, then the resolution also states that free trade relations should be set up with them as well. This move would allow all three affected colonies to share resources, as well as open up markets for all three colonies in the respective parent nations; and is seen as a wise economic move. There also remains the possibility of extending any such agreement with the other colonies in Giscardia after it's formulation with the Mephrasian colony, and the rumored Ixanian colony.

Significant mineral deposits have been detected in the boundaries of Oreston, and the work of expanding the hand of man on the land continues. Recently, the first Hospital, Police Station, and Fire Department have all been established. The fire department is currently a volunteer operation, and is expected to stay that way until Oreston can generate enough Rushana's to support a full-time fire department. For the time being, the Police Department is being funded by the Lamonian National Police; and the hospital is being funded directly from the Lamonian national government.

Ville-du-Faucon,
Île-du-Faucon, Nouvelle-Atruriée

As Contre-Amiral Jean-Louis Giscard walked into the room, the collection of seasoned, uniformed officers of the Atrurian military and colonial civil service around the vast, circular oaken table rose. Here, in the chambers of the Governorial Mansion in the colony’s capital city of Ville-du-Faucon, the Contre-Amiral had begun holding bi-weekly council sessions with his closest advisors.

“Bonjour, Messieurs. Please be seated,” Giscard requested, as he took his own exceedingly cushioned seat, adorned with foreign jewels and symbols, at what would have been the head of the table.

“[i]Bonjour, Monsieur Gouverneur,” the men acknowledged, seemingly in chorus, as they sat back down in their own seats.

“So, gentlemen,” began the Contre-Amiral, “what news do you have for me today?”

“Messieur,” one very excited Commodore pounced up before anyone else was given a chance to speak. “We ‘ave made a very interesting discovery. Not four days ago, one of our vessels on a routine patrol mission gone slightly afoul ran into an island much further north of the continent. After we rescued the ship, I ordered an investigation of the matter. We dispatched several frigates, to take care of the matter and the news they came back with was impressive, to say the least. It appears that to the north lies a whole other continent.

Now imagine my surprise, Messieur Gouverneur, when this same event was almost exactly replicated. Just two days past, a squadron of three cruisers, two destroyers, and a battleship, were sailing eastbound, in hot pursuit of a small pirate fleet, who had been ‘arrying local merchants, with their raids on colonial trading ships. In the fervor generated by the thought of detaining these villains, the squadron neglected to review their navigations systems, and soon found themselves lost. Once they realized this, the commander of the squadron ordered his crew to halt the chase in order to reorient their course. It took several hours before the squadron was able to find its way back to familiar waters. Though they were unsuccessful in eradicating our shores of the pirate problem, the commander was confident that he had at least scared them off for the time being. However, a much more important discovery was made, that of a third continent just to the east of us.

Here, Monsieur, review these charts if you will,” finished the commodore, as he passed a file, crammed with topographical and simple maps, nautical charts, and photographs of the two continents and their accompanying islands, to the Contre-Amiral.

“Mmm…” murmured Giscard, as he licked his lips. “This is a most valuable discovery. There is certainly the potential to expand the colony into these new continents. Though, I’m not so entirely sure about the northern one, it seems to me to be not quite close enough to home for comfort. What do our loyal Bérets Bleus have to say on the matter?”
A grey-haired and battle-scarred Général, whose navy-blue beret commanded attention, rose to speak, an expansive array campaign medals and military decorations sparkling from the chest of his grey uniform and the golden-yellow epaulets mounted on his shoulders shining. “I most certainly agree with your assessment of the situation, Seigneur, and with your permission, I would like to submit to you the Korps Mariniers’ proposal regarding our colony’s course of action.”

The Contre-Amiral nodded his assent.

“Well, if you view your map of the eastern continent once more, Votre Excellence,” motioned the Général, “You will note the large island on the continent’s western coast. Initial surveying of the area indicates that it is a suitable location for growing such cash crops as rubber, sugarcane, and cacao, and that it may possibly hold some deposits of gold and other precious minerals. There is also strong reason to suspect that the mainland’s interior holds much bounty in the way of such natural resources and cheap labor, according to several of the Civil Service officers with whom I have held discussions.

I am thus proposing that we immediately colonize the southern half of said island and a small mainland portion adjacent to it. We should dispatch a squadron of ships, carrying 7e Régiment d'Infanterie de Marine and 3e Régiment d'Infanterie de Marine. 7e RIMa should disembark on the island and begin in-depth surveying and initial settlement of the area. 3e RIMa should disembark on the mainland, construct the beginnings of a settlement and then begin exploration further into the interior. Within just a few weeks, the region should be ready for settlement by immigrant populations.”

“The plan sounds appropriate, put it into action immediately,” Giscard announced, signaling the Général to take his leave and begin preparations for the eastward landing. “Now, let us turn to domestic issues,” the Gouverneur announced.

As the Général exited the room, a civil service officer, in a two-piece, double-breasted grey-brown tweed suit typical of the administrators of the colonial Civil Service, piped up. “Things are proceeding quite well, Votre Excellence, the total number of settlers in the colony, of course excluding the military garrisons, numbers upwards of thirteen million citizens, with fleet-loads of immigrants arriving by the day.

Our mainland territory is attracting piles upon piles of customers. Towns and villages have made their presence throughout the territory, though of course mainly on the coast. So far, fishing, along the coast, and game hunting, particularly deep into the interior, appear as though they will establish themselves as important parts of the local economy, along with the inevitable tourism and fur trade that they will surely attract. We have had the good fortune to be able to cultivate vast quantities of cotton, tobacco, and rice in the region, and these seem as though they will become the major crops of the region. Already, the more forward thinking among our wealthier settlers have begun establishing plantations for these crops, hiring low-wage indigenous workers, who have, thus far, gotten on quite amicably with our own citizens.

Aside from a few settlements to the north of us, Île-du-Faucon lies relatively empty. We suspect that there are a number of resources up north, but have had little luck finding anything thus far. However, as you have doubtless noticed, our capital city is absolutely flourishing. We are the largest settlement in the colony, with a grand total of four million settlers residing within our city walls, nearly a third of the entire population of the colony. Furthermore, Ville-du-Faucon has established itself as a dominating trading city, and the pre-eminent port of Nouvelle-Atruriee, and possibly the busiest port on the continent, in terms of tonnage shipped. Ship building firms have popped up all over the coast. We’ve also begun to establish a financial aspect to our economy, which began with the Nouvelle-Atruriee Banking Corporation. We now have one of the largest currency exchange markets in the region, and have begun pursuing a more comprehensive financial services sector.

In conclusion, we are expanding rapidly, both in terms of population and in terms of our economic progress.” The man sat down and allowed Giscard and the other advisors around the table a moment to ponder over his words.

IC:Pyramid Island, New Avedonia

The new massive island was slowly being surveyed by various groups, and as with the rest of the colony, it was found to have a fairly large amount of fertile soil. A team of researchers from Imperial University Euphova had done a quick study of climate patterns and soil, and recommended that the principal crop grown be the soybean. Soybeans are a staple of the Mephrasian diet, stemming from the aversion to dairy held by most of the nation's citizens. Large areas were soon zoned to be sold as agricultural land. However, in the center of the island, explorer had come upon a glorious waterfall set within a small mountain range. To commemorate this discovery, the Imperial Office of Parks designated 40 square kilometers around the site as "Pyramid Falls State Park" the first of it's kind in the new colony.

Newtown, New Avedonia

Bureaucrats had been working on routine business all day, although they had been pleased by the surprise announcement of the foundation of the Lamoni colony in Giscardia. To have a fellow Delian League nation in the area would prove invaluable in matters of both trade and security. As they eagerly watch the press conference held by the Lamoni officials, they quickly prepared a dispatch to their Lamoni allies.

To: Lamonian Government in Oreston
Dearest Brother in Arms!

We area overjoyed to hear of your presence in this new world of Giscardia, and hope that your new lands shall prove an ever fruitful bounty to both your mainland and the greater world. We in New Avedonia see it as imperative that our two colonial holdings see each other as if they were our two metropoles. To further this agenda of mutual cooperation, security, and prosperity, we would like to offer a free trade treaty between our two colonies, as well as a treaty of naval cooperation to secure the waters surrounding our holdings from those who might see to seize them. It might also be of benefit for us to consider constructing a Delian League base in the area, however this must be discussed in further detail.

We hope that soon we shall be able to have formal conferences in which to hammer out the specifics of our varied proposals, but in the meantime, we wish to offer our friendship in these new lands, and our aid if you should need it in any way.

Eternal Friendship and Brotherhood,

The knowledge that there was a colony of Mephras in Giscardia was greeting with joy in Oreston. As a fellow Delian League member, Mephras (and by extension, the colony of New Avedonia) would be the ideal choice to establish trade and defense ties with.

Keeping first things first, the colony of Oreston elected it's first Colonial Governor. His name was Xavier Talent, and he was thirty five years old. As political parties had not yet had time to form in Oreston, he had run as an independent against thirty other hopefuls for the position. His confirmation in the position by the Lamonian mainland was swift, and the message from New Avedonia was the first thing that he noticed on his desk. Xavier had always been a swift reader, and he was already formulating a response before the rest of his appointed Colonial Cabinet had even finished reading the message.

Office of the Colonial Governor of the Lamonian Colony of Oreston

To: Giles Zhang
Viceroy of New Avedonia

I am Xavier Talent, the newly elected and confirmed Colonial Governor of the Lamonian colony of Oreston.

We are very pleased indeed to hear of the Mephrasian colony of New Avedonia. It is our belief that friends and allies should always stick together. Accordingly, I shall be flying to Newtown tomorrow in a Colonial Navy AS 332M Super Puma helicopter from the FRLS Oreston, a recently renamed Adelaide Stinson class frigate that has been rendered for Colonial Navy Service. The head of the Colonial Navy informs me that you should expect me to land in Newtown at noon local time.

It is my intention to discuss the matters that you have brought up at that time, and also to see how else that our two colonies might become closer friends.

OOC to all: Would it be worth it to create a voluntary time zone system for Giscardia? It'd certainly be interesting to see what the western colonies are doing while the eastern colonies are in bed, and so forth.

Arbórisar, Iscardia

Like in Haramanito, the silk industry in Iscardia was taking off.

Plantations owning hectares upon hectares of mulberry trees were springing up all over Northern Iscardia. The farmers on the West Coast had sold their still maturing fields to corporations, instead moving North and inland to carve themselves a piece of the profit.

Arbórisar was a town of 1,220 people, out of Iscardia's 140,000. It was home to numerous land owners and planters, as well as labourers. The orderly rows of mulberry orchards could be seen from within the town's walls, rising over the nearby hills.

Sänt-Andrûsar, Nova Thysklin

Sänt-Andrûsar was a tiny hamlet of thirty civilians and fifty Imperial soldiers cowering upon the southern shore of Nova Thysklin. It had been hastily placed there after the Imperial Navy's visit in order to solidify the Empire's claim to the country.

Soon, a survey team would arrive to asess Thysklin's rescources, meteorology, and topography. The Empire's perliminary observations had deemed it likely that hydrocarbon reserves existed in the colony's waters.

Saar-Vidasa, Urenia

Unlike Iscardia and Nova Thysklin, Urenia had already been dismissed as a mineral producer. Instead, agricultural estates were being established.

Kiravian settlers (Numbering 10,000 in the first shipments) had brought cattle, sheep, alpacas, rice, tubers, herbs, and the ever present cale. Already, the first three incorporated countyships had been divided amongst townships and plantations.

Epitonium, Ruria áu Altoplata

Epitonium was a small settlement of 6,000 Kiravians, ethnically a mixed bag of Kaldev, Ítev, Gërev, and Cymrev, sitting on the other side of the Altoplata River from Urenia.

The plains around Epitonium shared the topography and minerology of Urenia, but it was supected that ores could exist in the more southerly regions of the colony.

Ft. Thurmec, Vortisia

Vortisia was, for now, the least developed Kiravian colony in Giscardia.

The only sign that it had been touched by civilisation was an unwalled set of four prefabricated buildings, eight trailers, a power generator, and an Imperial flag rippling above the rest in the cold wind.

Esteemed Sir,

As the colonial imperiae of which we are soon to become major parts enjoy the most amicable of relations, and our two communites have already cooperated productively in this theatre, I feel that it would be only fitting to conduct formal negotiations betwixt Haramanito and Iscardia (On behalf of both your other sovereignties and ours).

We would be most honoured to host such an occasion in our newly-completed Governatorial Castra in Novisar.

Colonial Governor Xavier Talent had boarded the FRLS Oreston, and was heading towards Newtown, New Avedonia. There were relations with an allied colony to establish, after all. He could only hope that his message to New Avedonia had been received, as he had had no reply from Newtown about it.

Xavier found himself enjoying the time that he was spending on the FRLS Oreston, and considered making the Oreston his own part-time diplomatic ship. In the meantime, he was drawing ever closer to New Avedonia.

Aut vincere aut mori

When the lieutenant had disturbed Fleet Admiral Sidorove, he had been in the midst of the laying out of deployment plans regarding the primary heavy machinery and personnel unloading sites on the newly Pudite land of Septvmdecim with his Imperial Army liason, Major General Petrushka Visoiur.

Excusing himself from the meeting with Mj General Visoiur, the Admiral had been taken back up to the bridge of his flagship, the battleship Vengeance of the Faithful. There, when asked by the Admiral for what reason he had been summoned, he answered thus, "Admiral, I have taken you here to let you witness what is perhaps far more important than what business you had been at with the General,"

"Yes," answered Oksentei, "And what might it be that I should witness?"

The lieutenant wasted no time in answering, "This, sir."

The man brought up an image on the computer terminal sitting before the two officers. This image was marked at the top; 'Foreign Affairs - Confidential', a designation that was borne on all documents relating to this latest, or any, venture of this nature. "This, sir," continued the lieutenant, "was received perhaps half an hour ago, from the Foreign Affairs Office in AC-0001"

The image displayed was a satellite image, similar to the one awaiting the Admiral back below-decks in his conference room, along with a certainly baffled General. However, this map was larger, and contained not only the landmass containing Septvmdecim, but other, even larger continents.

"What is this, lieutenant?"

"This, sir, is empty stretches of land, laid about far more liberally than we had at first believed."

The lieutenant handed Oksentei a small packet of papers, "This, sir, came with the image, we had them printed for you,"

The Admiral began to leaf through the sheets, and the lieutenant continued, "These are instructions, sir, regarding the newly identified landmasses, as well as a description of the support fleet that has just today been dispatched. They are mentioned in these last few pages here," the younger man flipped a few pages and brushed his hand across the page, "A few dozen large supply ships, loaded with the rest of the seventy-fourth division, mechanized infantry, whose first brigade we now contain in our own fleet, as well as a few thousand more laborers, and finally, Fleet Admiral Petr Kirdei will be joining them with his fourth expeditionary battle fleet, to lend some weight to our claim,"

"Excellent, when can we expect them to join us, and where?"

"Well, sir, as you know we should be within sight of the southernmost islands of the continent even now, and so I cannot expect them to see us for another ten days, based upon the speed and course laid out in the dossier,"

"Lieutenant, do these new orders specify anything regarding our landfall that may compromise the plans being laid out now with the General?"

"Sir, they issue instructions on where to expand our claim, however, they do not serve to decree any specific action, that has again been left to you."

"Indeed, well, have these maps enlarged and sent down after me, so that the General and his staff may see them as well. Also, alert Rear Admiral Pikal that he should splinter his squadron from the main force and make for this large island here, and have Captain Lukinich and his ships made ready to depart as well,"

"Yes sir, I will sir,"

Following that encounter, Fleet Admiral Sidorove returned to his, newly expanded, briefing with the Major General.

Three hours later, as the main force of Sidorove's fleet was nearing the southern end of the passage through the Atrurian colony of Nouvelle Atruriée, two smaller forces had already broken away. This main force, still commanded by Sidorove himself, was bound for the largest projected land-claim of the Emperor, where he was to establish, alongside the Imperial Army and Foreign Office personnel accompanying him, the colonial government of future Septvmdecim.

The first of the fleets which had been earlier ordered to pursue a separate course was commanded by Captain Lukinich, and did consist of three frigates and a company of Imperial Navy naval infantry, escorting a pair of roll-on, roll-off cargo ships and was headed through the Gestronian archipelago for the Pudite claim on the land south of Revebonia. There, they would establish a small fortification and resupply station, and begin to establish patrols across the surrounding sea, land, and air.

The second fractional fleet was bound for the northern end of the large island directly east of Oreston, the southern end being already occupied by the Atrurians, who had been nearer to begin. This third fleet was the largest, and consisted of a fleet carrier, escorted by four cruisers, eight smaller ships, as well as leading six heavy transport ships, containing, among other things, a battalion of the seventy-fourth infantry division's first brigade and five-thousand farmer-caste laborers.

Very soon, these three separate tools of the Emperor's will would make obvious their lord's claim on the lands he knew as Septvmdecim.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Ixanian Empire was well known not only for the friendliness that it showered upon the world's nations but for the colonialism that it practiced unexpectedly according to Ixanian political commentators on the reign of Anastasia the Second who had authorized Ixanian expansion into Giscardia and the naming of Remus Veldahar as the official governor of Ixanian Giscardia, the newest colony of the Empire. Veldahar was immediately sent to not only make his nation's claim of the colony official but to proceed with the expansion of the colony's borders to parts of the mostly unclaimed island to the north. A charter expressing support for the basic human freedoms coupled with loyalty to the Empress was written up and published for the colonists who trickled in while soldiers would come into Ixanian Giscardia to fortify key positions in case there was a war in the vicinity of the islands or in case the Ixanian Empire had to defend its newly created colony from other nations. The capital of Ixanian Giscardia was christened with the name of Port Hope by the colonists who hoped for a better life on the islands and it soon blossomed into a major trading city filled with ships and people of all sorts; perhaps, one day, it would be the site of intercolonial agreements undergoing their creation.

The prospecting vessel brought itself about and sailed back to Ft. Thurmec.

The ship had been chartered by Dókáreum Corporation, Kirav's major oil company, which had recently merged with the Uir Belu, Geren, & Oranej Corporation. They'd struck gold. Black gold. Liquid gold.

Sänt-Andrûsar, Nova Thysklin

Sänt Andrûsar had grown in size to a small town of 1,000, protected by a nearby military post of 500. Under the current draft of the Giscardiax Cóloniav Acta that would grant Nova Thysklin and the other new colonies their Charters, Sänt-Anrûsar would become the colony's capital. For now, however, it remained the only settlement in the entire land.

Northern Iscardia

Northern Iscardia was no longer an untamed frontier. Silk plantations, home to entire self-sufficient settlements, divided the land up in grids unseen beneath he verdent mulberry forest.

With silk had come money and trade. The Imperial Senate had ruled to keep the intra-Imperial trade monopoly over Iscardia for the next decade, instead of putting it up for review in five years. The main purpose was to keep Iscardian silk in Imperial hands, and non-silk trade was left open to allied powers with Giscardian posessions.

Novisar was now a city of 41,000, in a colony of 236,000. It had shops, restaurants, shipping warehouses filled with silk fibres, a school system, several parks, and a busy port. West Pacifica Company ships arrived daily, bringing consumer goods and leaving stuffed with the colony's lifeblood.

Klören Estate, Urenia

Urenia's Territorial Provisional Government had split Urenia into three subdivisions: Three Countyships (Royal, Gelsord, New Seyuna), an Independent City (Saar-Vidasa), and an Unorganised Countyship (Which covered 79% of the territory).

The Countyships were divided into municipalities under private custodianship (Estates) and settlements under civil administation (Särlins, or Townships). This reflected the argicultural character of the province, where plantations were effectively state-recognised fiefdoms of their owners.

Imassion, Harmanitoj

A light rainfall had decended upon the bustling city during the middle of the day, buy now, puttles had formed of all sizes up and down the cobblestone avenues of the city. The cities persons were already back on the streets after the rain, and the sound of horse drawn carriages cliped across the roadways. And walking down these streets were 2 men whose newly polished shoes splashed as they walked to the docks where they were to arrive by steemer to Novisar. (of course, automobiles still had to be imported)

"Ah, it does me good to see this city one more time," Mr. Terröns remarked as he took a deep breath of fresh air.

"Indeed, I expect to hear from you in Fort de Ríons in a matter of weeks," Govenor Lekèn smiled as he carried with him his cane as well as a portfolio. "It certainly is a more difficult job than mine considering that Brimsinton is a place on the wild frontier..."

"Still, it will be nice to settle down in the untaimed frontier, away from a city whose population is the largest in all of the colony with over 50,000 people and...." Terröns started, but was interupted by the sudden chime of the carillion in Central Square.
"Ooh the church bells and clock towers, the one sound that is music to my ears....that, sadly, I will miss..." he finished.

"Not to mention the importance of Imassion, it is starting to become a recognized city in Giscardia. Imassion is a hub of ideas, culture, and popular trade. None the less, I see that for you, the frontier holds beginning...." the govenor shook his head yet still smiled at the same time as the two boarded the steemer.

The ship gave a few whistle blasts, and pulled away from the docks.....headed to Novisar.

Fort de Ríons, Brimisnton

The small city was founded at the mouth of the large river (that is known now as the Giscaridan River) where it meets the ocean. Already, over 1,300 citizens reside in the city, as new people await the upbringing of land contracts, township deals, and the arrival of the new govenor of the Brimsinton territory. This govenor will have to settle and colonize an area that extends from the mouth of the river and the city, all the way to the other coast.....

Latican Imperium
The Imperium has laid claim to the north-most island's eastern section, under the name of Latican Giscardia. The 612. Latican Naval Infantry Contort will be moving to the south-eastern most tip of Latican Giscardia to establish Latica de Casa, the first city will become the capital of the colony and also an establish naval port. The 88th Latican Naval Contingent will be moving to secure the movement of the 612., after their initial establishment a group of twenty-thousand non-born Honduran will be shipped to Latica de Giscardia to become citizens. If anyone of these assets are damaged in any way shape or form it will be considered an act of total war against the Imperium, and as such, will be dealt with by the full force of the vast Imperium.

Latica de Giscardia
Lieutenant Colonel Reggie L. Melendez cracked his knuckles over the desk that had been placed in his 'head quarters', hell it was more like five large wooden poles with carpet draped over it, but it was a sacrifice he had to make, for the good of the Imperium and all that. "Major Rodriguez, where's the cement mixer?" He asked to his good-looking executive officer.

"Sir, the mixer is making the foundation for the bunkers as ordered by the Imperium." Rodriguez put himself in a rigged salute after relaying the necessary information. He himself was a man a nominal stature for a Latin, being of 5'11, the average height that between 5'8 and 5'9 in the Imperium, he stood a bit taller then most. His body was athletic, making a somewhat model-ésque silhouette when you add the standart issue .45 caliber on his waist, a weapon that he preferred to use in combat over the much larger G36.

"Alright, Rodriguez." The Colonel rubbed his arm, as was his habit when he was hit with one of his cravings. The quickly popped out a box of Camel Lights, opening the top a taking out one of the six remaining cigarettes in the box. The closed it and put it back on the top of his desk, the Camel facing upwards. He put the Camel in between his lips, snatching his zippo lighter from another part on his desk that was expectedly close to the pack of cigarettes, and ignited the paper. He inhaled a fresh breath, as it reached the back of his throat he felt revitalized, and put the zippo lighter down to its original position. He took the Camel out his mouth so he could finish his orders. "Damnit, Rodriguez, get every man in the unit, not including the officers of course, to start digging up the foundation for the housing complexes for those dirty Migrants, (common derogatory term for Hondurans who weren't born in Honduras, and thus survived the executions.) for the twenty thousand of them that'll mean we'll need about... lets say... I'll be nice, make forty complexes for the Migrants."

Rodriguez was slightly surprised by this, despite each housing complex only being able to hold about four hundred people, most would've made only twenty perhaps as far as thirty for the Migrants, but such a generous number, it was incredibly uncommon, and it also meant more work for his men, and for people they didn't even hold as worthy of life. "Yes, sir." He said with a bit of dissatisfied disdain as he saluted and left to give out the orders. The complex foundations would be done before the cement mixer had finished construction on the bunkers or before the three other mixers were to be shipped, but at the rate they were working atleast six complexes should be up by the time the first Migrants come into Latica de Giscardia.

OOC:Sorry for the Delay

IC:Giles had been swamped with the recent developments in the newly discovered isles, as new colonies began to appear on every side of New Avedonia. It was nearly 7 o'clock when he finally read the telegram from Xavier Talent of Oreston. Horrified at his impoliteness, he quickly penned a telegram.

To:Xavier Talent

Deepest apologies for my late reply, however I am most glad to hear of your imminent arrival in Newtown. I assure you that everything shall be in good order upon your arrival, and we shall be able to discuss many of the pressing issues concerning the cooperative development of our colonies.

May your journey be safe,
Giles Zhang

-------
After the telegram was sent, Giles quickly grabbed the phone and began dialing. Every servant and page in the viceroyal palace was summoned to quickly prepare the formal and conference rooms to receive their honored guest. Another group of workers was sent to prepare to harbor, and to ensure security of the waters off the coast. While the preparations were slightly rushed, Mephrasians were often procrastinators, yet often still pulled off good results, and Zhang was confident is his team.

By the end of the hour, over 100 people were working throughout Newtown, making sure that the streets were clean, the gardens and parks manicured, and roads were clear. Zhang realized that New Avedonia had to live up to the Imperial name, if only for a quick visit from a friendly ally.

The next day

Colonial Governor Xavier Talent had just gotten off of the helicopter that had placed him on the FRLS Oreston, and saw that the ship's Marine complement had formed an honor guard for him, five Marines on each side of two lines, with a corridor between them that allowed him to walk between them. When he had reached the halfway point of the corridor, the Master Sergeant in command of the ship's Marine detachment thundered, "Marines! Salute!"

As one, the group of Lamonian Marines saluted the Colonial Governor, who saluted them back. The Master Sergeant escorted the Colonial Governor to the ship's bridge, where the Colonial Governor met the ship's Captain, Captain George Simmer. The two chatted amiably, which helped to pass the time until the Oreston had reached Newtown, New Avedonia.

Naturally, a message had been sent to the Mephrasian colony as soon as the ship neared the colony's waters. When the ship was safely moored; the Colonial Governor's helicopter lifted off of the deck of the ship, and deposited the Colonial Governor at the designated landing zone given to them by the authorities in Newtown.

Xavier Talent was not used to speaking to other governmental authority figures, but he figured that if he took the situation to be like a large scale business meeting, then he should be fine. After all, Mephras and Lamoni were friendly allies, so their colonies should be the same way, he reasoned. After leaving the helicopter, Xavier waited for the host's greeting party, so that they could get this meeting started.

Giles watched nervously as the helicopter's propellers slowed to a stop on the newly built heliport. His appointment as colonial governor had been quite surprising, and he hoped to distinguish himself in his service. Flanked by a secretary and a security detail, he watched as a well dressed man, most likely Xavier Talent, emerged. He walked hurriedly to the helipad to greet the dignitary.

"Welcome to New Avedonia, Mr. Talent, I hope that your trip was acceptable? I am Giles Zhang, Viceroy of the colony, Please, follow me and I shall show you to the Viceregal palace, where our discussions shall be held. "

The now sprawling city of New Curco sought to mirror its mainland counterpart in both size and elegance as colonists poured into the industrial center by the tens of thousands.

Already several docks and other naval facilities had been erected to service even the largest of ships in the Republic's navy and plans to expand the New Curco docks were under way the ultimate goal for the city was to be able to process hundreds of ships at a time.

To keep pace railways and roadways were constructed going deep into New Republica's interior to growing labor towns some of which had evolved into small cities themselves.

Along with the growing population came a greater military presence as several air fields and a large army and marine base had been established with the number of active colonial reserves now reaching into the 80,000's a large number of military equipment was also directed into the new camps.

Largely anti air and missile defense systems as well as stand off capable anti ship platforms and long range artillery.

Melendez smiled as he put down the paper, all was going to plan, even his shitty head quarters was starting to brighten up with the news, but sadly, as he put the Light back into his mouth, and noticed how much had burned up whilst he was reading the report his anger flared up again, cursing in a mild fit about the draft in the room, the low quality of the "carpet shit" as he put it that was over his head.

Outside Latica de Giscardia
En Bunker 1c Lance Corporal Ramirez looked outside the firing hole that was provided by the bunker en his boredom. "Fucking hate this Migrant rat-hole." He cursed to aloud, the men en his entire squad had gone off drinking and it was his turn to cover their asses from the platoon attendance, it was a sacrifice he was willing to make, hell seventeen times before another man had done what he was doing, it was a bond that many of the Imperium's auxiliary shared, they may not have the training, or the superior weaponry of the Latican Trooper units, or even less than the Imperial Trooper units, but they had a strong brotherhood, and that was what made them a fearsome fighting force.

Corporal Ramirez looked out, his G36 was held en his left hand. It was night time by now, but for some reason the birds had left just two minutes before, it looked like they were afraid of something. Somehow there was an unnatural silence en the woods... something felt wrong to Ramirez, and as such, he pulled out his night-time binoculars, standard issue to all picket forces. He scanned the area, the green allowed him to see a figure en the, the man was naked, with what looked to be some kind of body art, holding a long staff-like tool, the top had a rather large bolder on the front, and the back was en a very curvy design, probably a counter weight for the heavy head of the contraption. Ramirez pulled up his gun, lining up the red-dot with that of the enemy body, and opened fire. The Colonial Imperium Primary Doctrine, rule 1. "Shoot first, do not eradicate, and as question later." So he fired a single round off, and the man fell to the ground, and Ramirez would keep on the look out for any more of the "natives"...

Signed,

Xavier Talent
Colonial Governor
Lamonian Colony of Oreston

---

Giles watched nervously as the helicopter's propellers slowed to a stop on the newly built heliport. His appointment as colonial governor had been quite surprising, and he hoped to distinguish himself in his service. Flanked by a secretary and a security detail, he watched as a well dressed man, most likely Xavier Talent, emerged. He walked hurriedly to the helipad to greet the dignitary.

"Welcome to New Avedonia, Mr. Talent, I hope that your trip was acceptable? I am Giles Zhang, Viceroy of the colony, Please, follow me and I shall show you to the Viceregal palace, where our discussions shall be held."

"My journey was indeed acceptable, Viceroy Zhang. I am indeed Xavier Talent, the Colonial Governor of the Lamonian colony of Oreston. It is a pleasure to extend the hand of friendship between our colonies, and it is my hope to expand upon the already friendly relations that our two mother countries enjoy.

I also have a gift for you, Viceroy Zhang, and I shall tell you what it is when we are on our way to our meeting. It is the hope of the entire colony of Oreston that you shall enjoy the gift that we have selected for you, Viceroy Zhang." With this, Colonial Governor Talent followed the Viceroy and his entourage to their scheduled meeting.

Absque sudore et labore nullum opus perfectum est
Overhead, the constant drone of helicopters could be heard, ferrying men and materials from the ships waiting offshore, as they had been for hours. Just down the beach, 007-546-168-679-Olferov could see as the massive amphibious landing ships were opened, and from their black depths were poured near-endless streams of vehicles, large and small.

007-546-168-679-Olferov, or, Zakhar Olferov, as he was informally known, had been landed only a few minutes before, along with the rest of his company, the third company of the first brigade, seventy-fourth mechanized infantry division. Only recently had the remainder of the companies heavy transport vehicles been unloaded, and now Lieutenant Olferov, for that was his rank, and the platoon he commanded were only awaiting orders.

They did not have to wait long. Captain Shchelkanov, the senior officer of third company, was spotted moments later, making rounds of the platoon commanders' vehicles. When the Captain approached Olferov's armored vehicle, the Lieutenant and his staff stood quickly to attention, fists held over the heart, in the Pudite fashion.

A quick salute was returned by the Captain, setting the others at ease before he began to speak, "Lieutenant," he greeted the men, "Our orders have just been handed down from battalion HQ,"

At this point, Shchelkanov retrieved a small map section from his pocket and held it out to Olferov, "This is a topographic representation of the southern border of Primoris Septumdecim. This area has been made the responsibility of our battalion, and we have been assigned this section here," the Captain pointed out a highlighted section of map, "This platoon," he said, referring to Lieutenant Olferov, "is responsible for the section here..." he traced out, "...to here,"

"I understand, Captain,"

"Good, your section encompasses twenty-five miles of land, you are to protect the laborers as they establish a border fence, and conduct a patrol of the length of the section every six hours, to guard against foreign intrusion,"

"Yes sir,"

"I will be establishing company HQ here," the Captain pointed out a red mark on the map, "We will depart in thirty minutes"

"We shall see you there, Captain."

A second round of salutes were offered, and the Captain departed. Thirty minutes later, the third company broke camp at the beachhead, and set off into the heart of their Emperor's new country.

A few days later, teams of farmer-caste workers would roll through on heavy transport trucks and helicopters, stringing chain-link fences across the whole of the border. They would be followed by teams of workers with heavy bulldozers, creating a road along the northern and southern borders. Until the dirt roads were finished, soldiers on the border would be supplied by air.

In the meantime, at the primary landing site, prefabricated buildings and fencing were being quickly deployed, and the garrison had already begun to fortify the surrounding land. Engineers and laborers would clear runways, and coat them with heavy steel grates, to allow heavier cargo planes to fly between colonies, and facilitate the use of smaller fighter craft from the prefabricated compounds.

Heavy concrete sections would be sunk from the shore, also, to create breakwaters and establish safe ports at every prefabricated compound, which had been selected based on their usefulness as a future port. Once this was complete, larger and more numerous ships could begin to be deployed to the colonies, for, as it was, the single battleship and few fleet carriers of Admiral Sidorove's force would be forced soon to return to Pudite territory, to refuel and resupply.

This procedure was duplicated at the landing site on the other two major Septvmdecim landmasses. Once a foothold had been established, the colonies could be expanded and put to work, beginning to bring back to their new Empire the value that it had already put into them.

Re:Right of Passage

Her Highness's Imperial Colony of New Avedonia would like to express its greatest displeasure in the recent actions taken by your government. Your attempt to regulate movement shall no doubt leave your ports barren and your trade at a standstill. In solidarity with our Lamoni allies, we too forbid Mephrasian citizens from moving in your territory, and shall subject Gataway ships to the same fees.

Good day.

To: Gataway colony in Giscardia

"My journey was indeed acceptable, Viceroy Zhang. I am indeed Xavier Talent, the Colonial Governor of the Lamonian colony of Oreston. It is a pleasure to extend the hand of friendship between our colonies, and it is my hope to expand upon the already friendly relations that our two mother countries enjoy.

With this, Colonial Governor Talent followed the Viceroy and his entourage to their scheduled meeting.

"I am overwhelmed by the generosity of both you and your people, Governor Talent. Hopefully Mephras shall be able to provide a gift of equal value." Zhang walked at a brisk pace toward the large building near the harbor. Built in a Baroque Chinoiserie style, many of the humble colonists found the building ostentatious, but Zhang simply claimed that soon Newtown would be worthy of such grand construction.

At the moment, however, the building did stick out, especially among the flurry of construction that surrounded the site. Zhang turned to Talent "I apologize for the somewhat chaotic nature of our city, but we are expanding quite rapidly, and it is a small price to pay for future prosperity. I assure you the venue shall be quite clean and tranquil." They moved up the front staircase of the building, and entered the reception hall. Everything was newly cleaned, and fresh flowers had been placed around the room. Two stewards escorted the party to the conference room, simply laid out with a large oak table under a large rug. Bookcases lined the walls, only interrupted by floor to ceiling windows on the south front, giving them a view of the harbor.

"I hope that this will be acceptable for our conference. After we have discussed for a while, the maid can show you to your quarters. I hope that they too will be acceptable."

The intelligence director was furious. "Why the hell didn't I hear of this till now?!"

"I don't know, sir! Reports indicate someone tried to hide it!"

"Bloody hell- sonofabitch! Any intelligence on who?"

"Susan Heraka."

Avery Torrington swore loudly. "Why?"

"Apparently she was a mole for private companies and some other governments. We don't know which yet though."

Torrington swore again.

"Sir, be that as it may- the official investigation is ongoing, she's charged with corruption and high treason-, we should still turn to the matter of Giscardia."

"Yes, yes... Get me the Prime Minister's Office."

Within a few minutes, a video conference link had been set up. Prime Minister Liegelor swiveled his chair around. "Yes, Avery? You called?"

"Yes sir. It appears that Susan Heraka tried to hide news of this new colony Giscardia from us. For God's sake, the Eridite Times got there faster than us! We'll be one of the last countries to get a colony there!"

Liegelor raised his eyebrows. "Who said that we would get a colony there anyway?"

"I strongly advise you to, sir. It will aid in getting a military base for deployments further off, strengthen shipping, possibly relations with other nations too, the like."

"I like it. You have a map?"

"Coming through now, sir. Oh... and it has our potential land claim on it too."

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/Brendeani/eriditecolonygiscardia2.png

Liegelor stroked his chin, though it had no beard. "Nice work."

"Department of Cartography, PM."

"Well, what do you think?"

Liegelor leaned back in his oak-wood antique chair. "I think we should launch an expedition."

His brown eyes twinkled.

Torrington smiled- a rare sight for anyone. "Aye aye, sir."

On board ELS Formidable

The frigate ploughed through the waves; lightning crackled overhead, followed by thunder rolling through the sky. Captain Eric Westwind looked up at the heavens. What he saw made him smile at its beauty- lightning dancing, entwining with the dark clouds, beautiful in its own way, as nature so often is. To some it would be depressing, but to him he enjoyed it, and the pitter-patter of rain on the deck he was standing. Sighing, he walked back to the bridge, his uniform dripping water. "Would that we see more such beauty on missions like these," he thought.

He would get his wish.

"Sir, we just got a message from ERIDCOM. Important, only for you to open. I wonder what it is."

Perplexed, the inquisitive captain replied, "As do I. Well, open the message."

The screen now read:

TO: ELS Formidable
FROM: ERIDCOM
ENCRYPTION: 9

The ELS Formidable, currently on an expeditionary and exploratory mission to find other countries, is to turn due west. Intelligence indicates that a previously uninhabited land named Giscardia has been discovered, you are authorized to claim land in the name of Erid'Lor. Reinforcements are on the way- other ships and aircraft. Your crew are to construct a preliminary port, runway and settlement in Erundon Major, by which time another frigate, ELS Furious, will have arrived to claim Erundon Minor. Civilians are being offered land and labourers jobs in Erundon Major. Attached is the map with our claim. May God be with you. ---MESSAGE END---

Westwind raised his eyebrows. "Set course to this... Giscardia."

"Aye sir."

At the moment, however, the building did stick out, especially among the flurry of construction that surrounded the site. Zhang turned to Talent "I apologize for the somewhat chaotic nature of our city, but we are expanding quite rapidly, and it is a small price to pay for future prosperity. "I hope that this will be acceptable for our conference. After we have discussed for a while, the maid can show you to your quarters. I hope that they too will be acceptable."

Xavier did notice how the grandiose building that he was being led to stood out from the rest of Newtown, but decided not to comment on it. Instead, there was something else that came to mind.

"Viceroy Zhang, there is the matter of the gift that I mentioned earlier that I wish to speak to you about." Pulling a photograph from one of his pockets, he gave it to Zhang. ( http://www.aerospace-technology.com/projects/piaggio/images/2-private-jet.jpg ) "That, Viceroy is a picture of your gift. Officially it is known as the A100 Comfort II Twin-Engine Turboprop Business Aircraft. LAIX Arms has built one of these aircraft for your private use, and will deliver it to Newtown later today under the call sign "Phoenix 1." I trust that you will find your new private aircraft to your liking, Viceroy Zhang."

After listening to the Viceroy speak about how chaotic that Newtown looked, Talent responded. "I'm sure that you would find the same scene played out in Oreston, Viceroy. After all, we both have new lands to place under the embrace of civilization; as well as resources to use. I think that we will both remember these first few years with fondness when our respective colonies grow larger, though. When everything out here in Giscardia is so new and untried.

I'm sure that this venue will serve our purposes admirably, Viceroy. I would first like to thank your colonial government for following our lead in the case of the toll that Gataway's colony would place on all go enter their territory. I fear that banding together to reject their absurd toll may be the only way to get their attention on the matter."

Another large fleet steamed into the port city of New Curco a deployment force of 25,000 regular army troops with armor support had been dispatched in response to ill taken reception of the imposed colonial tax.

Along with the additional troop numbers the colonial fleet was being bolstered with the addition of two Feathermore class superdreadnaughts as well as an untold number of ballistic missile and attack submarines.

Reports of detainments and deportation of natives were also trickiling out of the newly aquired colonies of the republic.

Lamoni actually claimed the small region north of Oreston as an expansion to it a few posts before you. You're right that you made a post about your secret intentions for the more eastern island before Gataway, but he did openly, ICly claim the territory first (and he made me a map first), so that's why I'm putting their claims on the map and not yours. Zhang looked down at the photograph, and saw the lovely civilian plane depicted there. "Governor Talent, you really are too kind. This is extremely generous, and shall no doubt prove an invaluable tool for diplomacy in our new colony." Zhang had loved flying from a young age, and could not wait to jet around in such a luxurious craft. "I have heard of the engineering and design capabilities of Lamoni, and I can see that the rumors were true."

As they sat down, the conversation turned quickly to Gataway. "Yes, we were glad that you were willing to take such a strong stand on that issue. We are most concerned with the situations unfolding in the region. It seemed that Giscardia would stay stable and peaceful, but recent events have proved the situation is less than desirable. The cooperation between our two governments has become an even more important issue. Perhaps we could agree on joint naval patrols of key shipping and coats routes near our colonies, in the interest of trade and security?"

Zhang looked up as a butler brought in some drinks. "I'll have black coffee. Governor Talent, would you like something?" Today had been quite stressful, and he needed to boost his energy. "Of course, Mr. Talent, I hope that we needn't focus on solely military matters. I feel that questions of infrastructure and trade can also be on the table, projects such as ferry systems and joint development programs. Hopefully if successful, these can be expanded to other friendly nations in the region."

OOC: If you try, I am more than ready to turn your whole country into glass. You are not the biggest fish here, you should know. Although, as an aside, nor am I. Lamoni, I understand, is quite large...

Secondly, I will of course fight for it. Gataway; I have already elaborated on my landing on all four of the Sepvmdecim sections. You have not, if you want to come and remove me, I assure you, you will not have the last word.

I am more than willing to fight a small-scale, role-play based war, but, based on what you have recently done (25,000 soldiers with armor support and four superdreadnoughts) you seem more interested in teleporting large numbers into the barren wasteland and just assuming they can be adequately supplied from... nothing... until I go away. Latica de Giscardia
Colonel Melendez had all the positions completed as he smoked his Light. "God, I love these things." He commented to himself aloud, the smoke had captured every inch of the room he was en, which had not been upgraded despite the completion of all other projects, a notion that burned at his pride. At that exact moment his good-looking executive officer bursted into the room, at the exact moment of exhale, his peak of enjoyment with all his cigarettes. "What the fuck is it, executive!" He yelled at the man who interupted his sexual activity with the device he was annoyingly holding in his hand.

"Colonel, the natives we confronted about a week ago." The officer stopped for a breath of air into his tired lungs, an advant smoked at his young age had destroyed the soldier's lungs, as it did to many of the men who served in the armed forces around the world. "They snuck threw our lines last night, atleast a hundred of them, and they're killing the fucking Migrants indescrimenately! We could have our commisions for this, sir!" He said a bit too loudly to the Colonel. En truth the death of a few thousand Migrants would be nothing to the Imperium normally, but at this juncture Latica de Giscardia was going to be the place where the Imperium could finally rid themselves of the Migrant vermin without international outcry, that was the true plan, and both Melendez and his XO new it.

"You dumb bastard!" Melendez replied in raw anger as he smashed his fist hartily against the wooden desk, breaking the cigarette which only added fuel to the cursing that he was already burning into his XOs ears. "Fucking move A, B and C Company to neutralize those bastards. I want atleast one of those fucking natives captured so we can use the fuck to learn their language." He paused as he coughed, a side affect to the many years of smoking he put himself, even at the slightly young age of 45. "Tell them to not damage the compounds, that would cause more of a shit fit than a few hundred Migrants. Now fucking move!" He practically screamed, and with that his XO was running out the door.

Migrant Complexes
Corporal Ramirez and his unit had been moved to secure the area around Complexes A and B. As they neared it they began to hear screams, a few feet closer and the first of many civilians bodies began to appear, a grin of slight devil-like satisfaction perpatrated the faces of the Latican soldiers, but they also brought their arms to bear, these natives would pay for damaging Latican property. A left arm from the commanding First Sergeant came up and the group halted. A wave to the right side was followed, and a group of savages were seen ruthlessly stripping Migrants of their clothes, rape was a crime not seen fit for even the lowestest of life, especially that of Migrants, even Hondurans, as they were still Latino en skin.

Ramirez was the first to respond with a precise bullet breaking the spine of a native, the rest of his unit soon followed suit, not one of the Migrants was raped. They continued to move around, and encircled Complex A. B Fireteam was ordered to secure the compound while Ramirez's own C Fireteam acted as security of the east wing. "12 o' clock, 19 thongs." "Thong" was a common term for natives with little body coverage. Ramirez looked forward and gave the execution-like single and the firing errupted, all of the natives dropped instantly. A call over the radio was made, signifing that Complex A was secure, and that B Fireteam would maintain this position while the rest of 2. Platoon moved to secure Complex B. The same insidents happened there, but the Complex was taken back with ease.

All over the Migrant centers these happenings occured, a total death of six Latican troops was racked up, while another two had been injured. The civilian toll of life was over a hundred, with another twenty wounded. No rapes had occured, however seventeen children under the age of eight had been slaughtered. The natives lost some hundred of their number, with three being captured. The third one was killed threw horrendous torture, while the other two were used for the mastering of the foreign tounge.

OOC: I hope that you don't still have your sights set on the newest part of Oreston. At the least you would be facing Lamoni, Mephras, (as well as The Delian League, which the two nations are part of), and possibly Neo-Ixania and Erid'lor as well. Unless I tell them not to, of course.

Since my claim did come before yours, I hope that you will let me have my claim, Emporer Pudu.
OOC: You did expand before I landed, unlike Gataway, who has not made any in-character motions toward the land I "stole". I can edit out my deployments there; as Admiral Sidorove had been attempting to avoid conflict, at least until everything was properly established, he would not have landed in overtly foreign-controlled territory.

Novisar, Iscardia

Governor Vürmec pulled on the Kiravian formal attire, that is, a black robe with silver ropework. The meeting ahead was very important, as it would supplement relations between Zoingo and the Empire, as well as help the economy of both colonies.

"Your Highness, overcrowding levels in Nuevo Italia are reaching porportions where we cannot adquately provide people with transportation, education, or even basic healthcare. Unhappiness levels there are at an all time high, and if we don't act fast they'll soon be civil unrest."

"What are our options?"

"There's the possibility we could take some immigrants here and enlargen the quotas."

"Next."

No way in hell those savages were coming over here to ruin things he thought to himself.

"There has been a new continent discovered that some of our regional neighbors have staked claims in, with this new open space as many people who want to escape the cluttered mass of humanity that is their homeland can do so.

"Excellant, make the necessary preparations to stake a claim for over in...wherever it's called."

Saar-Vortisia, Vortisia

Oil lurked below the seafloor of Vortisia's territorial waters, and Dókáreum Corporation wasn't going to let it go to waste.

The company had set up shop in Saar-Vortisia, the 18,000-strong capital of the colony. Office buildings were being built, while land for a refinery and port facility was being negotiated for.

Lûnkraft, Nova Thysklin

Seventy-seven thousand people had settled in Nova Thysklin. Though her wet, windy climate and her mostly unarable terrain (Hills and mountains, heavily forested) discouraged most agriculture, the country held vast reserves of sea oil, gas, iron, zinc, tantalum, and various other minerals, metals, and stones.

Colonists came from eight different ethnic groups, the Kaltev being the most numerous and internally diverse in subgroups. Coscivian Theism and the more traditional branches of Kiravic Christianity were the main faiths, though some Erikkan Christians and Presbyterians had come as well.

The Emperor had granted Nova Thysklin its charter, setting down that it was to be governed as a Classix Kéarita, or a republic in which only certain social classes could participate in politics. Power in Nova Thysklin belonged to the planters, merchants, intellectuals, professionals, civil servants, landowners, and the vernacular middle-class, though the rights of other citizens were equally protected judicially, socially, and economically.

Lûnkraft was a small indusär, or industrial town. Here, small factories and workshops assembled and repaired mining and farming equipments, as well as important building materials like cement and piping.

Novisar, Iscardia

We would be greatly mistaken were we to ignore the most populous and progressive of the Kiravian colonies in Giscardia.

One million souls now inhabited the province. Hundreds of thousand worked on, for, or with the silk plantations, while others sold and furnished consumer and capital goods to the profitable estates. Still others produced the cale, tubers, and meat to feed the other two groups. The economic explosion was attracting more advanced services and industry to Saar-Iscardia and the western cities.

Hasär, Giscardia Shpping Base

The Empire controlled some pretty small colonies. Róklin Insular Area, for example, was a half-acre of basalt in the Aquaric Ocean. Insula Ardana was an emergency landing stop poulated by about twelve people.

But Giscardia Shipping Base was worthy of recognition for its size. Or, rather, lack of size. It was a tiny square of land on the Altoplata River that the Empire had claimed merely as a way station between Iscardia and Urenia/Altiplata.

The development of the colony ['Colony' is really a general term. GSB was actually incorporated as a Dependency] consisted entirely of a docking area, a customs house, an administrative building, four houses, a rudimentary hydropower station, and a pub.

Fifty people lived there, of which twenty were KE officials. The rest were civilians hoping to render services to passing ships, or dockworkers. Excluding the bartender, of course.

"Governor Talent, you really are too kind. This is extremely generous, and shall no doubt prove an invaluable tool for diplomacy in our new colony."

"Like the Free Republic from which we came, the colony of Oreston recognizes who it's friends are; Viceroy Zhang, and we have no problem with showing due recognition to our friends." Colonial Governor Talent gave the Viceroy a friendly smile.

"I have heard of the engineering and design capabilities of Lamoni, and I can see that the rumors were true."

"LAIX Arms ( OOC: http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?showtopic=3113 ) is busily setting up new manufacturing facilities in Oreston, Viceroy. Perhaps in the future, I could show you some of their designs. I think that you would be suitably impressed. My particular favorite is the M-20 Hamsher AMTV, but I think that i'll let you see it when you are in Oreston. Of course, LAIX Arms is not the only major employer in Oreston, but it is one of the largest."

Governor Talent followed Viceroy Zhang to the room where the meeting was to be held, and sat down in the proffered chair. It looked like it was time to get down to business, and Colonial Governor Talent's suspicion was confirmed when Viceroy Zhang started their discussions on the subject of Gataway.

Perhaps we could agree on joint naval patrols of key shipping and coast routes near our colonies, in the interest of trade and security?"

"We had to take a strong position on the Gataway situation. Given the location of Oreston, it would not be all that hard for Gataway to force our ships or aircraft into their territory and have them pay their absurd toll by force. By making a strong stand now, our colonies send Gataway the message that we will stand up to their Geo-Political bullying.

If we join forces, then we would have the ability to remain neutral in any petty conflict in Giscardia. If we can convince Delos to place a Delian League base in Giscardia, then our ability to project power in order to protect ourselves would increase. In Oreston's case, we could also potentially call Ixanian Giscardia and Erundon Major for assistance if needed, but they are more of potential question marks as compared the friendly allied relations between our colonies.

I fully agree that Oreston and New Avedonia should jointly patrol key shipping and coastal routes of both colonies, Viceroy Zhang. I also offer full and free trade between our colonies; as a show of friendship. Our colonies shall support each other economically, and militarily. I believe that our colonies will be in a strong position to show the other colonies of Giscardia what two friendly colonies can accomplish together.

I also have a not yet complete plan to float in front of you, Viceroy Zhang. I am envisioning a council of all of the colonies in Giscardia, where each nation has one representative, and the council can mediate disputes between the colonies. The leadership of the council would shift from colony to colony on a six month alphabetical rotation, which would ensure that there are no favorites. What is your opinion of such a council, Viceroy Zhang?"

"I'll have black coffee. Governor Talent, would you like something?"

"I would like some black coffee as well, please."

"Of course, Mr. Talent, I hope that we needn't focus on solely military matters. I feel that questions of infrastructure and trade can also be on the table, projects such as ferry systems and joint development programs. Hopefully if successful, these can be expanded to other friendly nations in the region."

"I would like to hear more about what you have in mind with these proposals, Viceroy Zhang. I am always interested in anything that can serve our mutual interests."

In Oreston

The colonists that had explored the northern reaches of Oreston were amazed by their discoveries. Major deposits of both Uranium and Gold had been discovered, and Geologists were still trying to discover the extent of the deposits. Even without the presence of LAIX Arms, it looked like the colony would be able to financially break even within a few years... the amount of time that it would take to start exploiting these finds.

In the southern border region of Oreston, more geologists were combing the area. The make up of the area was ideal for oil, and the geologists had been sent to see what they could find. If oil could be combined to the discoveries in the north, then Oreston would shortly be able to support itself.

In the meantime, the population of the colony had grown to 100,000. This had been done via the birthrate, and more colonists arriving from the Lamonian mainland. Permission to settle in Oreston was being given in phases, so as to not overtax the colony's resources, which were also starting to grow. The news of the new and potential mineral and oil finds in Oreston were greeted with much celebration in the Lamonian governmental halls in Nephi. Lamonian financial assistance to their colony could be gradually reduced as the Uranium and Gold mines started operating, and could be reduced even further if oil was found.

Clink…

On a global scale, it was not a new discovery by any means. More than four thousand years prior, it was commonplace in the Fertile Crescent and beyond. It served a source of both medicine and light of the ancient tribes of Persia. With it, the mighty walls of Babylon were fashioned. The first streets of Baghdad had literally been paved with it. It had been routinely exploited by the Romans in their province of Dacia. The Chinese burned it in the Fourth Century to evaporate brine, creating salt. As early as the Seventh Century, the Japanese knew it by the name of Burning Water. Before the end of the Ninth Century, The Persians had discovered how to distill it. In the Tenth Century, Abu al-Hasan 'Alī al-Mas'ūdī, the “Herodotus of the Arabs,” described vast fields of it, running for miles outside the town of Baku. But it would not reach Atruria for hundreds of years yet.

… Clink… Clink…

In the grand scheme of things, however, a few hundred years was of little consequence. Lying hidden under layer after layer of rock and earth, it had been formed only after thousands, perhaps even millions, of years. The remains of life from only the most ancient of times had begun to compress these many millennia ago. Eventually the remains would be compressed into sedimentary rock. Years later, the pressures of the High Seas had caused silt to pile upon the rock, transforming it even further. Eventually, this combined with a number of environmental factors and further changes in its chemical composition, would make the last remains of some long-forgotten organism worth something once more.

… Clink, Clink…

It was not until just into the Seventeenth Century that oil was first recorded in Atruria. In 1612, Chevalier Jean-François de Montfort, leading an exploratory expedition into the Kronveldt Territory, recorded, in his personal logs, a scout party’s happenstance traversal upon a field of the substance. And even then, it would be several hundred years until the substance became so especially important. Nearing upon the winter of the Nineteenth Century it was being harvested from the earth and refined. A reasonable profit was being derived from it, due to the lighting needs of Atruria’s denizens.

… Clink, clink, clink, clink…

By the year 1860, Atruria was thriving on the yearly production of just over 3,000 barrels. Today, spurred by one and a half centuries’ worth of economic growth and technological development, it had become a key priority of the Imperial Kingdom. Subjects of the Empire needed it daily to warm their homes, to fuel their vehicles, to supply their families with required electricity, and for literally hundreds of other uses. Where, so many years ago, they had been producing a vast surplus at 3,000 barrels a year, today the Imperial Kingdom required a bare minimum of 300 million barrels of it to function regularly each day.
Its hundreds of thousands of years of rest under this ground was now being disturbed

A crusty old frontiersman, standing squarely, pummeled his industrial-grade sinker drill into the earth. His leathery, bearded face reddened, a bead of sweat trickled down his forehead, as he struggled to maintain control of the drill.

“Come on, now Père, it’s time to take a break,” his eldest son, who had thus far been waiting patiently, yelled above the noise of the drill, noting his father’s discomfort. “We’ll break for lunch and be back at this spot, searching for gold again, within the hour.”

“Not now, boy!” The bull of a man roared, “I’m almost there. I can feel it in these old bones of mine. We’ll find gold here and, before the day is through, we’ll filthy rich.”

As he spoke, the ground below began to give way, and he sensed that his drill was beginning to sink through something lighter, something softer than rock.

“Ah, this’ll be it, boy,” the man nodded and winked at his son as he drew his drill from the deep hole he had created, in order to survey the gold deposit which he had assumed he had discovered.

As the man peered down and noted, instead of gold or some other precious metal, a black, tar-like liquid, his face morphed from a portrait of joy into a contorted expression of disgust and confusion.

Running up to see what the apparent problem was, his son’s mouth opened up into a full grin.

“Père, don’t you understand? This is oil. This is better than gold, its more than we could have hoped for in our wildest dreams. We can literally make millions off this.” Looking around for a second, the son continued, “Wait here. I’ll rush home and phone the Trading Company. They’ll want a piece of this, and they’ll make us truly make us rich.” The boy nodded to his father as he ran off in the distance, towards the direction of their frontier homestead.

Atrurian Herald

Oil Discovered in the Colonies

Like so many in the colony of Nouvelle-Atruriee, Mathieu Rencharde and his family are recent immigrants to the New World. As little as two years ago, Rencharde was the owner and primary operator of a small naval construction yard based in the port-city of Ardenseilles. With the 2006 expansion of Maritime Impérial and Chantier Naval Atruriee, the two major conglomerates of the Atrurian maritime construction industry, smaller firms like Rencharde’s Ardenseilles Nautique have nearly all either been bought up or pushed out of business. Having trouble turning a profit, Rencharde was left with no choice but to sell his shipyard and seek out employment elsewhere. Unable, in two years, to find a job that could support his entire family, Rencharde was excited when the discovery of Giscardia was announced in the papers, and jumped at the chance to start a new life.

Selling all they owned, the Rencharde family purchased several one way passes to Ville-de-Faucon aboard the transport ship Merahiste. Upon their arrival, the Renchardes spent a number of months in the island’s capital city, where Rencharde was able to resume his former profession. The family was spurred northward into the unexplored frontier, up towards Oreston, by the whispers in saloons and taverns of the possibility of gold. What they discovered was even better.

Digging for gold, Mathieu and his eldest son happened on what can only be described as one of the largest single oil fields in Atrurian history. Upon discovering the oil, they immediately paid a call to the New Atrurian Trading Company, their sponsors in the search for gold, who have pounced upon this opportunity, buying up land all across the region, calling up troops of the Korps Mariniers to guard their territory, and lobbying the monarchy for an exclusive patent. So far, the expanse of the oil field is unknown, but one anonymous surveyor in the employ of the New Atrurian Trading Company commented, “this oil field is an immense find for the Company and for the Empire. It is certainly one of the most enormous I have ever seen, and may even expand across the border into foreign territory.

The leader turned to another person on his left.

"Captain?" "Yes?" "Bring a party of Jeeps, go forward, and take another colony inland." "Yes, sir." Just as the Captain was leaving, the leader said, "Oh, and please don't get into trouble with other colonists." "Yes, sir."

The Geologists that had been exploring the south of Oreston had not been idle themselves. While one of their backhoes had been digging for any sign of valuable minerals, a spout of a black tar like substance flipped over the backhoe, and news of the discovery had rapidly exploded up Oreston's chain of command, directly to the office of Colonial Governor Xavier Talent.

Word of the find in Oreston reached him at the same time as word of the find in Nouvelle-Atruriee; leaving the Colonial Governor to wonder if the two finds could be part of the same oil field. Well, there was only one way to find out. The Colonial Governor directed that a message be sent to their southern neighbors with an interesting proposal.

Office of the Colonial Governor of Oreston

To: Government of Nouvelle-Atruriee

It has come to my attention that Nouvelle-Atruriee has found oil within it's territory, just south of Oreston. I congratulate you on your find, and would like to announce that Oreston has found oil on it's side of the border between our colonies as well.

This being the case, I would like to formally invite a team from Nouvelle-Atruriee to explore for oil in southern Oreston alongside the oil exploration teams presently in Oreston, while an oil exploration team from Oreston works alongside the oil exploration teams in Nouvelle-Atruriee. In this way, the size of the possible oil field can be determined; to the benefit of both of our colonies.

The 32nd Colonial division disembarked a long the Western reaches of the Republic's latest claims, satellite sweeps had indicated other landings on both the main continent and portions of the large island adjecten to it, including developments underway inside Republic claims.

While landing and transport craft carried troops and supplies to the new establishments the fleet including two of three Feathermore class vessels along with a carrier several supply craft four anti air defense cruises and five guided missile cruisers, and six frigates three dedicated to anti air and three to anti submarine operations.

As a cautionary measure an additional 12,000 men had been drafted into the colonial units from the Republic's original claims to guard the "home front", New Curco was a bustling city compared to other nations colonial cities which set about establishing agricultural settlements, the Republic had set about quickly establishing factories and sweeping up natural resources putting only small amounts of land aside for agricultural development.

The vast majority of the Republic's original claim had been to establish base of operations for fleet sustainment and aerial force projection, as such already several large mobile ports had been established to service republic naval vessels, the steady flow of military equipment had been the cause for the High Chancellery to issue a high tariff rate, which had as planned discouraged foreign nations form coming near Republic territory.

As such the Republic found itself having a far larger concentration of military equipment and force than many of the other colonial powers, the new colonial claims would be where the Republic would establish trade destinations and more environment friendly facilities.

For now however the Republic marines set about establishing FOB's and securing a 134km perimeter around the western portion of the island while the smaller colonial detachment established outposts on the western end of the new eastern continent. Geared more towards civilian development than military expansion, however as before large numbers of anti-air defenses were to be set up as well as surveillance equipment

Nevo Republica

A secretive dockyard was under construction as hundreds of colonists toiled day and night erecting what looked like sub pens and other submarine servicing facilities. Rumors amongst colonial naval personnel were that the Admiralty would be utilizing Nevo Republica as a major submarine service station and possible production site, also being spread through the grapevine were rumors that more than a dozen ballistic missile and attack submarines would soon be conducting operations within the Giscardia theater

Official Decree, Unclassified, open transmission

Effective Immediately the tariff and tolls set in place upon Republic territories in the Giscardia territory are repealed and foreign governors are invited to meet with High Marshall Von List to discuss trade and other colonial matters.

Colonial Expansion force:
two Feathermore class SD's
1 Indestructable class carrier

Aliena nobis, nostra plus aliis placent
All across the disseminate little outposts of the Dominion that made up the colonial extent of Septvmdecim, work was progressing to demarcate and fortify the borders and secure the original landing sites, chosen for their future functionality as a port; preparing them for conversion into a full-fledged Pudite compound.

On the largest claim, Primoris Septvmdecim, Governor-Admiral Sidorove had already established what would be for a time the largest Pudite instillation in Giscardia, having already prepared an artificial harbor, an airfield, and cleared five square kilometers which were being prepared for conversion to Dominion compound. The soldiers and laborers that remained at what was known now as CC-8601, Sidorove's compound, were not working to flatten and clear a three-kilometer kill zone surrounding what had already been prepared, and to begin preliminary excavation for the vital near-surface facilities of the compound.

Similar projects, although with less extensive manpower were being undertaken in both other area's of Pudite control, with their own compounds known as CC-8602 and CC-8603, respectively.

Only four days away now were the forces of Admiral Petr Kirdei, bringing with him as he was the remaining fifteen thousand men of the seventy-fourth mechanized infantry division, a large contingent of workers, along with his own force, the fourth expeditionary battle fleet, a fully fitted out war fleet of the Imperial Navy, dwarfing the few dozen ships Kirdei's counterpart Sidorove commanded here yet in Giscardia.

Until then, expansion and fortification would continue unabated.

Dókáreum's newest oil rig had just been set into place in the seas south of Nova Thysklin. Soon, more of these offshore stations would be built, and begin drawing black gold from the seafloor.

Similar platforms were being assembled for deployment to the seas of Vortisia.

The population of Nova-Thysklin had reached 100,000. Nova Thysklin was a prosperous town of happy homes, whirring factories, and bustling shops and marketplaces. "It is truly astounding, the industriousness of your people. I can only hope that we too shall soon have industry flourishing in our colony.

Suddenly, he felt a buzz near his hip. He quickly grabbed for his blackberry, and read the quick message which was displayed there. "Good news, my friend, it appears that our action has bore fruit. Gataway has decided to suspend its trade restrictions, and has even invited colonial leaders to discus regional matters. This is a great victory, however it simply proves the importance of our unity in Giscardia. With trouble still brewing, I believe that we will still be able to move forward peacefully together."

He smiled warmly before he continued. "It is true that our military cooperation shall continue to be a cornerstone in the future of a peaceful Giscardia. It is imperative that we bring in other friendly nations, especially Ixania, to build our influence in hopes for security in the face of any threat."

Zhang was ecstatic to hear Xavier's plan for a colonial council. "I believe that this is a wonderful idea, and would serve as an excellent platform upon which nations could solve their differences without resorting to war. It could help serve as an arbiter in cases of dispute over land borders and various resource rights, among many other things. We could also introduce a rotating presidency to diffuse claims of bias or imperialism. It would be a great idea, and one we should definitely pursue further."

"I would like to hear more about what you have in mind with these proposals, Viceroy Zhang. I am always interested in anything that can serve our mutual interests."

"I believe that what we have laid out so far represent an excellent start. Items such as free trade and military cooperation will secure the future of our lands for generations to come. I believe that our next step shall be to hammer out these institutions and pacts, and also being to bring other friendly nations into our dialogue, with the eventual goal of having all nations of Giscardia working together to make the region a prosperous and safe place."

”I'll be blunt with you Fatima,” the reprimanding voice of one member of the Supervision Board could be heard even from outside the Admiral's office, ”There's a lot of ships gathering mold back there,” the official pointed at the shipyard outside, visible from Fatima's office, ”And a lot of people needing them,” that said the man stormed out of the office, not waiting for the woman to reply.

It was not uncommon by now for various civilian officials to attempt to pressure the use of League resources in a wasteful manner for their own personal gain, greed, Fatima concluded, pushed many towards curious deeds, not even here was she safe from idiots and bureaucrats. ”Gold diggers,” she muttered darkly, remembering just how harsh the Damiran officials had been on all contractors applying for the auctions organized to provide the League with various materials and equipment, ”Think they can bypass the system,” she pressed a few keys on her desktop, an overview of the most recent League plans appearing on her holographic display.

There was something akin to revulsion that made its way to the Admiral's face as she thought on the subject. It wasn't the first time that she encountered the type, it was after all unavoidable given the scale of the operation but she sure as hell didn't have the time to manage each one individually. The Supervision Board was one of the clever tricks she had created in regards to the issue. An irrelevant institution, created on their own money that was supposed to represent them in dealing with the League. What they didn't get, and she wasn't going to reveal that any time soon, was that the League ships weren't going to leave their assignments unless it was for a member's interest.

”Ah, here it is!” she finally found the file she was searching for, a map appearing in front of her eyes, ”So, Giscardia?” the location wasn't as unknown to her as it was years before, but she still had some rather embarrassing deficiencies when talking about the area, deficiencies that she fully intended to fix at this moment. Several officers in the League were assigned to the situation, a substantial report addressing the latest developments and everything she needed to know about the region waiting for her to read. The establishment of colonies by League member nations in the area made the report more than just a trivial curiosity, plans already made for a Delian base in the area to protect the interests of those member nations.

The location of the base was chosen on Mephrasi soil due to the tactical advantage it offered in the unwanted eventuality of a conflict in the area whilst a close eye was kept on several nations. It was perhaps an unwanted truth, but it wasn't the first time somewhat dangerous exchanges erupted out of minor colonial squabble and the area had no lack of colonists with antecedents in that field.

Ixanian Giscardia had been flourishing under the administration of the Viceroy and his associates who spent their days usually reading reports and holding meetings in the Government House which was where colonial politics had been centralized for the sake of simplistic politics in Ixanian Giscardia. There were already many settlements that dotted the landscape along with television stations that usually broadcasted shows imported from the Ixanian Empire such as the cult classic animated series, Labyrinth, which had premiered on the Ixanian Giscardian Broadcasting Network which had been created in order to promote the cultural growth of the colonists rather than merely airing shows from the homeland. The IGBN only aired a few shows from the homeland with the vast majority of its programming being colony-made shows such as one program that showcased fish markets and farms that were doing quite well in Ixanian Giscardia under shrewd economic management and there was also a program created for children so that they wouldn't be left out of the television industry in the words of the government. Movies were also imported for the people to watch at their leisure and the first native born child's family recieved much in reward for their achievement. It had also been decided, by the colonial authorities, that the colony would be open to intercolonial diplomacy with the other colonies in Giscardia.....

OOC: I don't have enough time to do a full scale message from the Colonial Government so please assume you've recieved something like that from Ixanian Giscardia. Thanks.

Approaching New Avedonia

The flight plans had been filed and transmitted before the aircraft had taken off , and the Comfort II business aircraft was now approaching New Avedonian airspace.

"New Avedonia control, this is Phoenix 1, requesting a vector for landing, over." This was the gift that Colonial Governor Talent had promised Viceroy Zhang, and it was finally arriving. Everything had been checked, and re checked by the technicians, engineers, and other specialties at LAIX Arms; and it was confirmed that Phoenix 1 was good to go.

It was hoped that Viceroy Zhang would be greatly pleased with the present that he was about to receive.

Arduum sane munus
The waterfront of the landing site at CC-8601 in Primoris Septvmdecim today could not have been compared to the appearance of that coastline fourteen days ago; now, the beach was mostly covered in steel and concrete, and extending from the land were great long arms, sheltering what had become a large harbor. Beyond the harbor, massive prefabricated warehouses were filled to capacity with all manner of construction equipment and material, as well as a few devoted to military supplies and a large section of waterfront devoted to food and fuel.

Stretching only for five square kilometers, the heavily crowded compound beyond the waterfront was a hive of activity; with the newly arrived reinforcement fleet of Admiral Petr Kirdei having docked here last night, the influx of workers and soldiers have created a surplus of labor, and even now, having started hours before, the compound is nearly completely walled, a preliminary step to creating the compound proper.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in Primoris Septvmdecim, the border walls of the colony are completed and now, with the aid of Admiral Kirdei's soldiers, fully garrisoned. Currently, work is underway to complete a series of barracks and small defensive positions along the lines to house these garrison soldiers.

Now, also, for the first time the center of the vast wilderness of Primoris Septvmdecim was being explored. Teams of geologists, surveyors, and engineers are being deployed by land and by helicopter to chart the surface of the colony, and scout for possible mineral or fuel deposits underground.

The same process was common to all of the three Pudite holds in Giscardia, as thousands more laborers poured in, work could accelerate and with the arrival of the remainder of the soldiers, proper and complete fortifications could be completed. The first small beachheads have, in these past two weeks, grown into flourishing industrial enclaves in a vast foreign land, supported by tendrils of military outposts, surveyor teams, and the consistent naval and aerial patrols undertaken around and above the island.

Septvmdecim was now undisguisedly a Pudite colony, and all that remained was to complete the transformation of this newest of the Emperor's extensive holdings.

"We certainly shall stand together in this new land. Hopefully the presence of the Delian League in this area shall allow for peace to be maintained. Should ever you be attacked we shall be at your side, I assure you."

Zhang was overjoyed to hear of the Ixanian message. "This is indeed wonderful news. I would love to establish relations with the Ixanians. We could invite them to a new conference, or to our current one, depending on their schedule. But of course, our goal should be to establish lines of communication as quickly as possible."

"I agree. I also think that the council should be located on unclaimed territory that is converted for the use. An attack upon that special territory would be an attack upon all of Giscardia, and would be dealt with appropriately."

"Again, Mr. Talent, I am in agreement, it is a wonderful idea. In fact, the Mephraians would be willing to give of a small amount of their territory to form an international zone for this council. However we would need to look deeper into questions of sovereignty and control, should a city develop in the international zone. A Government would need to develop that would allow freedom for diplomats, but also ensure basic rights for the citizenry. Possibly a committee should be developed for this endeavor?"

"I completely agree, Viceroy Zhang. Let us get started."

"I feel the first move should be to extend an open invitation to all nations in Giscardia, to allow for a complete conference and to allow for us to hash out those things that are most important to all involved. If even one nation won't agree, it leaves us in danger. We must try to get everyone to agree to at least basic rights. For our two nations, I shall start a daily ferry from Newtown to your colonies, and hopefully soon offer flights to Lamoni territory from our small but growing airport."

The New Avedonia control was surprised at getting a call, as the airport was still at this moment rather young and on most days, only one or two flights came through. However as soon as the plane came into view, the air traffic controllers realized what was going on. They couldn't help but be impressed by the sleek, new jet that had just landed at the airport.

Soon a call went out to the viceroy at his palace, and his PDA began to buzz once again. The message was kept vague, and all that was disclosed was that something of interest was waiting at the airport for the viceroy.

"If it is ever needed, Oreston would gladly accept whatever help that New Avedonia can provide. As both of our colonies are part of The Delian League, I agree that we should uphold the standard of how all of the Giscardian colonies are expected to treat each other. With all of the available land and resources in Giscardia, there is a reduced need for war." Colonial-Governor Talent was ready to get to work on the proposals that he had laid out, but he also wanted to be polite with his counterpart. It would not do to antagonize an ally when there was no reason to do so.

"Viceroy Zhang, in the Ixanian matter, we think alike. I would certainly like to see their representative at this meeting, and given Lamoni's friendship with the Ixanians; I think that they would come most quickly indeed were a message sent out inviting them to this meeting. If you wish, I can compose and send a message to them from my PDA. I know the right people to talk to in the Ixanian Foreign Ministry."

"Again, Mr. Talent, I am in agreement, it is a wonderful idea. In fact, the Mephraians would be willing to give of a small amount of their territory to form an international zone for this council. "I think that a committee would be the best way to study this particular issue, so long as their advice is not delayed or ignored. I have seen wonderful ideas get shot down in endless committees back in Lamoni, and this idea is simply too good to get bogged down in red tape."

"I think that it is only fair if Oreston picked up at least half of the costs of the ferry system, Viceroy Zhang. In this way, we would have a joint project to show to the nations of Giscardia. It would prove that international co-operation can solve more problems that it would create. For my part, Oreston would be willing to allow citizens of New Avedonia to travel to Oreston merely on their passports, with no visa requirement; if New Avedonia was willing to return the favor for citizens of Oreston traveling to New Avedonia. We have an airport in Oreston, Vista Colonial Airport (OOC: Think this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tri-Cities_Airport_(Washington) ). I think that it would be suitable for flights to and from our colonies. It only has five gates at present, but the airport itself can easily be expanded when needed; as the airport planners were wise enough to purchase plenty of room for expansion... enough to fulfill the needs of a city the size of the Lamonian national capitol, if need be. The longest runway is 2,347 meters, at present, but that is also expected to expand when the need arises."

---

Phoenix 1 executed a smooth landing at Newtown's airport, despite only getting their landing information at the last minute. The Comfort II business aircraft was not a jet, but the pusher configured propellers and the wing were designed to achieve a longer range, as well as a higher maximum speed. When Phoenix 1 had been guided to it's parking space, the pilot and co-pilot exited the aircraft, and secured transportation to where the Colonial Governor's helicopter was still waiting. The pair were to head back to Oreston with Talent himself, where they would be taken back to the LAIX Arms facilities there. Then they would be permitted to resume their normal lives of test piloting aircraft for LAIX Arms.

Dum vita est spes est
The small, deeply tanned man crouched silently on the thick bough of the coniferous tree he had chosen as his hiding place. Lekti saw before him there stretched a small clearing, spotted with occasional young trees, and through this clearing, there ran a dirt path. Behind him, there were more trees, large, old-growth trees, trees that had been standing before his grandparents were born.

This path before him, though, it was not that old. This was new; the new peoples had made it, with their great beasts they had pushed the earth to shape their needs. Truly, he thought, they were a mighty people. Lekti had seen them before, but only fleetingly; when they first arrived, he had been one of a small party sent to intercept them. If they seemed strong, to parlay, if they seemed weak, to capture them and return.

They were indeed strong, climbing off their moving islands in numbers greater than he had ever seen in a single tribe. They were unified too, they moved together, as one being, they worked. Then it was that Lekti and his delegation approached them.

When they came out of the forest, there had been a small commotion, and very soon they were intercepted by a small group of men. These men, face-to-face, were tremendously tall, standing perhaps a whole body length taller than Lekti, and they carried strange clubs, unlike the weapons that Lekti and his people had cleverly left in the woods, so as to avoid appearing threatening. In addition to their prodigious height and strange armament, their flesh itself seemed foreign; they were covered in chitinous plates, their head a hairless bone sphere, leaving only small beady eyes and a mouth the like of a long tube hung over the shoulder of the man.

Unfortunately, the decision to leave the weapons behind, soon thereafter revealed itself to be none-to-clever. For, within seconds of meeting Lekti's group, these new giant men started to fight. They fought unlike anyone Lekti had ever seen, they did not even have to move to kill, standing there in a line, these men simply pointed at those they wanted to harm, and great explosions would wrack across their body, even at a long distance, as Lekti and the survivors discovered as they fled.

Now, Lekti, the few survivors of the welcoming party, and the remainder of the tribe's fighting men were gathered here, along this pathway. For, Lekti knew, this new tribe was mighty, and far beyond the power of anything he or his people could muster. However, perhaps if he could win a small victory, he could rally others...

It was then that he heard it first, the clanking roar of the newcomers beasts, followed by the crunching of the stones and dirt as the beast moved down the path. Minutes later, they were in sight, massive dark beasts, carrying, Lekti knew, the men and materials of this new tribe.

He let the first few beasts pass, for Lekti knew that there was nowhere for these things to go further down the path; it was incomplete, and they were not wont to leave it, no, he would wait for the rear animal.

When the final great thing rolled into sight, Lekti let out a short, bird-like chirping, to alert his brother-warriors that the target had been sighted. It would not be Lekti that launched the first attack, no, that honor fell to another.

Uurutu smiled when he heard Lekti's chirp, for he knew then it was almost time. Uurutu had been with Lekti on the ill-fated delegation, and there was where he had lost all three of his sons, now, he needed to avenge their murder by dishonorable cheaters. Now, the two tribes were at war, and Uurutu would show them that...

When the second chirp came, Uurutu acted quickly; using his stone blade, he quickly severed the final cable that held up the large limb suspended over the path. Seconds later, accompanied by the war-shouts of his brother-warriors, it crashed into the 'head' of the offending beast, producing a tremendous crushing noise, and followed quickly by the appearance of blood, displaying to Lekti, Uurutu, and their comrades that, indeed, the rear beast was dead.

Within seconds, the road was a scene of chaos. From the woods poured dozens of the tribesmen, armed with an array of bows, clubs, and spears, shooting arrows and javelins into the armored sides of the heavy transport trucks, or swarming the crushed cabin of the rear vehicle. Seconds later, the fighting started. From the rear hatch of these trucks, the damaged rear vehicle as well as the now-stopped lead four, sprang first the soldiers of the second platoon of the third company of the first battalion, mechanized infantry.

These men had discarded their more heavily armored vehicles for precisely that reason; they were heavier, and did not fare well in the muddy conditions of these half-finished roads. Therefore, they operated out of the engineer's transport trucks.

When they climbed out of the back of these trucks, many were greeted with the heavy blows of clubs and rocks dealt by the small, but well-muscled arms of the native resistance. Largely unfazed, in the full-body combat armor of the Imperial Army. Heavy ceramic and metallic plates absorbed the relatively weak, blunt strikes by the small men, and the heavy, eight-point four-two millimeter rounds of their weapons proceeded to inflict far more grievous wounds on the enemies of the Emperor.

Within two minutes, every native man was dead or had dissipated back into the forest, with the only casualties of the Dominion being the two men who had been crushed to death by the tree. The forty soldiers who still had transports loaded back up, while the ten men left without a vehicle formed a perimeter around their wreck and offered what aid they could to the five engineers who were also in the truck in removing the debris and corpses from the road.

The resistance would endure this defeat, but it was of no consequence, these people were nothing to stand before the inexorable onrush of civilization that the Emperor brought to his new colonies. It was only a matter of time before they were all but wiped out.

Progress would continue on the colonies, undaunted.

IC: The Holy osean Empire was delighted with the confirmation of its request. With Osea having problems with overpopulation, ther was no problem in finding people willing to become Colonists. Cities were soon established.

It was quickly discovered that the colonies had large amounts of raw materials which were slowly being exploited by various industries. It was also discovered that the land was very fertile and could be used for farming. But the Osean's quickly started eying other territories in Giscardia and decided to send a message anouncing their intentions.

To: All nations with colonies on Giscardia

The Holy Osean Empire wishes to announce our intend to expand it's colonial possesions on Giscardia. A map showing the territories we are colonising is included with this message. We also wish to open trade and diplomatic links with other nations in giscardia. Finally We invite any nation to establish an embasy in Osea(OOC:Use the link in my Sig).

The ship docked....

Novisar, Iscardia

As the Zoingan ship's gangplank fell onto the dock, Governor Vürmec approached its threshold, where he greeted his counterpart.

"Welcome, sir, to Iscardia. It is a great honour to host you here in my colony," saide he. Vürmec touched his shoulder in the traditional Kiravian salute, and then beckoned for his guests to come further.

Nova Thysklin

Iscardia was undoubtedly the superlative of the Empire's Giscardian Colonies. That being so, Nova Thysklin was next on the list.

It, too, was now home to a million people. Its economy was quickly developing: Manufacturing and Mining brought considerable export saars to the colony, fueling the development of extensive service industries, especially in Sänt-Andrûsar, Plätsar, and Dersylvum.

Slôpfeld, Triàncula

Triàncula [tree-ÄHN-kyu-la], the triangular island between Iscardia and Gisca Naval Colony, was a colony in passive rebellion. It demanded independence, not from the Kiravian Empire, as one might assume, but from Iscardia.

It had been settled as Amtum Triàncula (Triàncula Countyship) by silk planters, and was home to about 24,000 people. Citing geography, and the fact that incomplete infrastructure forced Triànculans to tend to their own affairs without Iscardian assistance, the inhabitants of the island had begun a peaceful petition to the House of Burgesses for the right to seceed, but Governor Vürmec had ruled it a matter above colonial jurisdiction.

With their request deffered to the Praetor, who was unlikely to grant it, the Triànculans had set up their own Charter, Legislature, and governmental apparatus. They had even elected their own Governor, Browen Veltskur, who reigned from Slôpfeld.

Ruri áu Altiplata

Altiplata was one of those monments when Kiravians questioned just how colonialist they actually were: When they got a piece of land and were left usnure of what to do with it.

Altiplata was home to eighty-thousand people, living in a few small towns near Urenia.

With farmland her only known rescource, though some minerals probably existed, there was little to attract investment. Even in agriculture, Altiplata would be outcompeted by Urenia.

Several proposals had been made to the Praetorium. One was to use it as a penal colony. Another would have Altiplata used to resettle the natives of New Harbour and Karesta, two other Kiravian colonies. A third involved uniting the two West Giscardian colonies as Colonia Urenia eð Altiplata. Urenians had rejected it.

Since then, it had flourished from being a small army base to become home to the city of Troyes, and the smaller towns of Nowell, Ecclesia and Horsa. Saar-Vortisia, Vortisia

620,000 people, 230,000 of them in the capital, hadd attained Vortisian citizenship.

Saar-Vortisia was a cold city on the country's coast. The buildings were no larger than five stories, giving it the appearance of a large town, rather than a colonial capital. An oil refinery was half-completed on the watefront. Hydrocarbons were already being exported straight to Great Kirav from the offshore rigs, but when the refineries were complete, the oil and natural gas would be processed in Vortisia itself.

Vortisia's legislature, the Provincial Congress, was weak. Even its Governor made few independent decisions. The Empire, at least for now, made Vortisia's decisions from Kartika.

Sänt-Andrûsar, Nova Thysklin

In Sänt-Andrûsar, the residents were all gathered near the edge of their city. Today, Hâskeln University was to be chartered.

Many of the ethnic groups that had settled in Nova Thysklin, especially the Kaltev and Krinstev, had a cultural bias towards intellectuality and education. When you put over a million of them in one place, there was no question that a university was soon to follow.

A stage had been erected close to the street, on the edge of the land where the campus would be built. Upon it stood several men in Kiravian-style academic robes. Governor Candur was there as well, in full Imperial Regalia. He took the podium, and read aloud the Charter, sent straight from Kartika, and signed by Emperor-Regent Blackfield.

As Regent for the Kiravian Emperor, Sovereign of the Colony of Nova Thysklin, I enstate the following Charter into Law in order to further the Intellectual, Educational, Cultural, and Professional Development of that Dominion.

Hâskeln University, in the City of Sänt-Andrûsar, Capital of the Realm, shall be recognised forthwith as a University, and accorded the full rights, fineries, and modes of address thereof.

The Charter went into further detail about financing, Iatic names, and the University's working languages, as well as how the University was to recieve land grants from which to extract income. But the Governor didn't bother to read it. The crowd was elated. Cheers rang from the assembled colonists. Their country was no longer a mining outpost. It was becoming a significant part of the Empire, as Iscardia had.

"You have to forgive my friend here, unfortuantely forign policy is one of his govenorial duties that he still needs to learn." Lekèn laughed.

Terröns rolled his eyes and laughed as he followed the 2 behind them.

"Quite understandable," said Vürmec, grinning, "Most of our Governors don't have the pleasure of conducting diplomacy. A streetcar is waiting to take us to the Colonial Building, where we may speak further."

"Ah yes....Alec....when do the streetcars for Harmanito arrive?" Lekèn asked his friend behind him.

Terröns replied. "Hmm...I believe that the shipments should arrive in a month or 2."

"But for now, it will be nice to ride in a street car..I truly miss the ones in Zoingo." Lekèn remembered aloud as continued alongside Vürmec.

"You and your past memories...you know that you would have to leave them to come here." Terröns commented.

"I know...but back to the subject at hand...I believe that both of our colonies have much to discuss." Lekèn turned to Vürmec.

"We do indeed," answered the Kiravian, as he lead his guests off the dock to the waitign sivler streetcar.

"The first and foremost would be trade, of course. With an extensive land border, trade betwixt us would be easily facilitated. How do you feel on the subject, Sèr Lekèn?"

"Excellent. Our mills will certainly process your silk and return it to you for reexport to Zoingo. In return for this stimulus to our industry, what can we offer your colony? Central Iscardia has some mineral rescources, and we also have significant non-silk agricultural areas that could sell low-cost foodstuffs to your people."

Ruri áu Altiplata

Large ranches covered the countryside of Northestern Altiplata. 12,000 more settlers had come to take advantage of the fine farmland. The Empire was hoping that the population would increase quickly enough to populate the Sotuh and inland areas to gain their geologic rescources.

Ruri áu Altiplata

Deposits of oil shale, natural gas, mineral sands, iron, and palladium were being worked in Altiplata. They were not majour deposits, but they were large enough to bring some money into the lightly populated province.

Cymrev, Gërev, and even some Corçev labourers had immigrated to work in the mines and gasfields. The last of the Kiravian Giascardian colonies to rise was beginning to prosper.

Saar-Vidasa, Urenia

Urenia's capital was the most beautiful city in Kiravian Giscardia. Her stone streets and old-style buildings were more reminiscent of Coscivia's gilded cities before the Great Fall than they were of grey, rigid Valëka or sleek, sterile Saar-Silverda. The Colonial Senate ruled from a pillar-fringed hall next to a Catholic church in the works near the centre of the city. The Governor managed the colony from a smaller building nearby.

The colony sold food, wool and wool textiles, meat, animal products, cotton, tobacco, wine, tea, and some citrus to markets in Great Kirav, Kaviska, and Xirya, as well as her sister colonies of Iscardia and Nova Thysklin. The planter class lived in luxurious mansions in the villages near their estates. Thw workers were well-off as well, and lived in clean, comfortable quarters in the very same villages.

OOC: Sorry this is a quick post, only had a few minutes before class, will come back later

Zhang was most glad to hear of the close connection between the Lamonians and the Ixanians. "I think that your previous relationship with the Ixanians will prove extremely beneficial for the future of our colonies. I would also agree that there is a large risk of getting bogged down in red tape. We must guard against unwanted bureaucracy and make sure that all legislation is efficient and proper. You are most gracious to offer to finance half of the ferry route, although I am sure that in short time, the initial investment will pay off several times."

"As for the subject of visas, we are also quite willing to fore go the need in New Avedonia. This is a program that has found extreme success in Mephras proper, and we find no reason to not extend the privilege in our colonies. No doubt the blending of our people shall only benefit both of our populaces."

Zhang studied closely the map of Vista Colonial Airport, again impressed with the engineering skill of the Lamoni engineers. "That shall be most suitable for the beginnings of flight links between our colonies. I believe it would be best to start with one or two flights a day, and then increase the number as the passenger levels increase, something I'm sure will happen quickly. Hopefully Newtown's airport shall increase in size quickly and soon be serving more cities around Giscardia."

Viceroy Zhang looked on as the craft he had seen only in miniature began to land at the airport. "Xavier, the plane is quite more magnificent in person than in model form. I cannot wait to take a tour. It seems quite luxurious from what you have said. I should get in contact with the Empress herself and tell her of the skill of LAIX arms, for both personal and military craft. She has recently expressed interest in expanding the Mephrasian Military, and I'm sure you would have some designs that would interest her, and her military advisors. But enough about that, would you mind if we took a quick look?"

The City of M'Abe'bra

The King of the Zha, Tousalo Pwambé, was celebrate his coronation with a great feast. All his lands were in celebration for the momentous occasion. His capital city, M'Abe'bra, was packed full of his subjects and dignitaries to pay hommage to the new King. Chieftains presenting small gifts, whatever thing of value the could find and shamans were giving blessings to him. Last of all the great Royal Shaman, Serou, came to bestow a blessing or gift.

"Young King", said he, "My gift to you is not of gold, spice, or metal. What I give to you is a warning, I see in the future is Iron...Iron...Iron.. as far as the eye can see, there is nothing that stop it, no craftsman can make use of it...Flee at once!"

The court erupted in laughter, the King was furious with him.

"For making a mockery and casting pall on this most joyous of days, I sentence you to death, Serou. Guards, seize him!"
-
The old man was quickly overtaken. Out of the crowd came his grown son, Butoa, to speak his thoughts to the King.

"This is an outrage, you cannot do this to the man who so loyally served your grandfather and father and brothers! You, who are nothing more than an upstart whippet does not even to deserve to be in the presence of so great a man as my father!"

Before the King could give the order for him to be captured, Butoa ran as far and fast as he could away from the house of the king and creat city. He wandered for days with nothing to eat with little sleep, for fear of the King's men chasing him. He would make his way to the coasts he thought to himself, where he could eke out a living.

After this gross display of insubordination, as a punishment, Serou would pay both his son's and his. He was smothered in the richest of hineys in the Royal Larders and set atop a nest of fire ants. The King saw this as just punishments for saying suh ridiculous things, but in his heart of hearts he was worried at the possibility of it coming true.

Navoli, Barinoko

Thousands of Nuevitalians had heard of the pening of new lands and had chosen to settle the newest part of the Sovereign State. Where they would be settling was similar to their homeland in climate, but terrain was very different. Savanna dominated the landscape, rolling plains as far as the eye could see.

On the coast, in a natural bay a new town was being constructed. Navoli would be the new capital of this territory, It had only a few complete houses for the first settlers, and the roads were still dirt paths, but the town was on its way. In a nicely built house was the new Governor-General of the colony, Col. Phillipe Triet. Triet was a stern, austere man but, he would get the job done and was fiercely loyal to the Ponetean Crown. He had arrived several days earlier to oversee the progress of the town before the first settlers arrived.

Several guards walked into his office dragging a ragged figure.

“What is it?” asked Col. Triet, referring to the figure

“We caught this one trespassing around the perimeter, what shall we do with him?”

“Dispose of him, of course, now I’ve got to return to work.”

“This must be some magic of my father’s.” thought the semi-conscious Butoa, who could now understand the tongues of these strange looking men.

“Wait!” he yelled

Triet was much taken aback by this out burst

“You speak our language? Tell me your name and why you saw it fit to sneek around our town.”

Butoa told him what had happened to him and about the lands. It was called Barinoko, and inhabited mainly by the Zha and several other lesser tribes. It largest city was called Őœŕųńđı to the northeast and its capital, M'Abe'bra, lay near the center of it. That was the home of the King of these lands.

Triet heard these things and listened, and then he told Butoa of their home, Ponente.

“Ponente?” Butoa was astonished, his Father’s prophecy was coming to pass. For “Ponente” was the Zha word for “Iron”.

Triet saw these organized natives as a threat to their settlement. This could not be allowed, he would have to act.

The Colonel smiled slightly and chuckled before saying: “Tell me Butoa, do you like revenge?”

South Central Barinoko

To the immediate north of Navoli there lies a group of five villages close to one another called Ank'uluar or "five villages" in Zha. Their names were Mousa, Kenota, Salubar, Zholidi, and D'Ajmena. They were small, fairly peaceful, and thriving...which was soon to come to an end.

Butoa was directing a group of tanks dispatched to deal with them, he had been promised a great rewad for his services in the conquest of Barinoko. He directed them along the rudimentary routes used by his people. They arrived at the first of the villages and opened fire before running over their houses and buildings soon the whole plains arond them were alight. Total chaos ensued, any who tried to fight back were quickly gunned down. The air was filled with the scent of burning flesh and screams of survivors and the dying alike. This was but only the beginning Butoa thought to himself as he oversaw the great devastation.

Iscardia has already raised a very small Colonial Army, and we are served by the Imperial Navy from Gisca Naval Base. There are also Imperial units stationed in Iscardia for the time being. However, after they leave, which is by next year, according to the perliminary plans, Iscardia would likely not survive a prolonged invasion by a foriegn power. We would like to arrange a mutual defence agreement betwixt Iscardia and Haramanito, by which we would both use our provincial forces to each other's aid."

"Aye. The Kiravian Empire, too, is vast, and has obligations of its own, namely to our sole remaining alliance, the Oceanic Defence Coalition. Also, instability in Nova requires that Imperial forces be stationed in Great Kirav to defend the metropole.

So, seeing as we are in similar situations military-wise, would it also be acceptable to conduct joint training operations as well?"

Sänt-Andrûsar, Nova Thysklin

The Thyskan capital was the finest example of a colonial city in the Kiravian style. The likes of it had not been seen since Emperor Raincedar's resignation. Her streets were lain out in grids, sloped over by the occasional wedge or circle. Green parks, the framework of the University buildings, and the steeples of churches could be seen from above. The city's busy port and industrial district processed, packaged, and exported the mineral wealth of the Thyskan earth. Factories churned out metal products and machine parts to be sent to Verdasa and Iscova for assembly.

Her buildings of local black-brown stone and darkened cement bordered streets of reddish-brown gravel. Children played games of improvised fieldball upon them, each play terminated by an oncoming vehicle.

The city shamed Novisar in its complexity, and Saar-Vidasa in its size. Saar-Vortisia didn't even hope to measure up. Sänt-Andrûsar was truly the finest Kiravian city in Giscardia.

OOC: I would really, really like to become involved in this. I've been away as Orbath for awhile now and I've been back and playing as a puppet for about a month now. I have a good story line for why Orbath disappeared and I think this would fit in nicely to help me reappear on the world stage. I have edited myself in on the map (the purple area on the eastern continent) however my 'paint'' software distorted the name I added so when someone gets time and want to be nice, If they could just add ''Orbath Minor'' to my claim I would appreciate it. Other than that consider this my tag, I'll have an IC post up around 9 eastern time tonight.

OOC: I'm not infringing on a claim of yours am I? Or did I just walk in on some other argument? If the former is the case, I'd rather not fight and would gladly choose somewhere else.

IC:
It was three years prior that Orbath nearly destroyed itself. It began as the alliance Orbath was apart of began to crumble, it's members and Orbath's closest allies drifting farther apart, some going into isolation while others maintained strained ties at best. With the lack of trade Orbath entered into economic decline. The current President, James Andrews attempted to rectify things but this became increasingly difficult The threat of terrorism and even outright revolt combined with the stress of the economic decline drove Andrews to a heart attack. After recovering he attempted again to fix things, nearly suffering another attack before being advised by his doctor not to return to his position.

In his absence, the Vice President took control of the nation. The VP was supposed to organize elections as soon as possible but became power hungry, doing everything in his power to put off the elections. During his reign several of Orbath's old allies suffered from their own revolts. The VP declined to show support, practically ignoring that these events were happening and attempting to convince the people that they weren't. It didn't take long for the Orbathian people to realize what was going on and they soon became anxious for a change in power. The largest riot in Orbathian history took place in Orbath City, millions of angry, mostly jobless men and women took to the street. The VP ended things before they became violent by declaring that campaigning would begin the next day.

Almost a full year after the former President resigned, a new President, Alfred Flint was elected. He immediately brought sweeping changes to Orbath. His radical policies were heavily questioned at first, however, in the coming months Orbath began to again rise. Flint kept the nation heavily self sufficient, however as Orbath continued to regrow he saw it necessary to bring Orbath onto the world stage.

Present Day
It was the first time in several years a meeting had been called in the war room and for several people, It was the first time in over four years they had been in the room. It had lost some of its more modern touches, some touch screens being replaced by maps, some laptops replaced by file folders but the atmosphere was the same. Sitting at the head of the table was President Flint himself.

Flint was not as old as many of the men at the table, however his balding head thinly covered in wispy white hair combined with deep wrinkles across his face could tell you otherwise. From just looking at the man, one could easily mistake him from being in his eighties. His swagger would tell otherwise though. Truth be told his was only in his forties and still had lots of bounce in his step, still stood straight and tall and was still quite the basketball player.

Flint rose to his feet, clearing his throat in a very official but dramatic manner. He spoke in a very serious tone which made the occupants of the room even more nervous, after all, the war room was an unnerving place.

''I'm sure your all wondering why I've requested your presence, especially because some of you are no longer, how should I put it... in the same positions of power you used to be. Despite this, I've called you because you are experts in a particular field or at least the closest thing we have to them. I'd like to start by formally introduced each of you so you all understand each others strengths.''

Flint pointed to a man seated to his left wearing a dark silk suit with thin charcoal pinstripes.

''I'd like to introduce first, His Excellency, The Count of Throppe and former President of Orbath, James Andrews. I've asked for His Excellency's presence because he was President during two colonizations and currently heads our only colony, Throppe.''

He then pointed to a man in a Throppe Defense Forces Uniform kept perfectly pressed, golden buttons shining brightly, many medals placed across his chest.

''Secondly, The Right Honorable Viscount of Throppe, Arnold Robertson. Mr. Robertson commanded the entire Cripistan Task Force including many Anagaonia ships. During his time in Cripistan he oversaw the creation of several colonies from the ground up. He has also practically lead Throppe and also is responsible for its rapid and heavy modernization.''

He then went on to introduce the two men to the rest of his staff, many of them former subordinates of Robertson and former colleagues of Andrews. He took a brief break, sitting down, sipping from a glass of water and tossing a manila folder to each person seated at the table.

''I've called you all here to take a look at this area here, known as Giscardia. This area has already been extensively colonized however we have been left with several options. I have proposed the area highlighted. I believe if we are able to secure the area with little problems we will be able to harness the area for some of its resources and bring some wealth back into Orbath. From there we have other economic possibilities, be it trade with natives or other colonies.''

Without waiting for anyone to speak, Robertson piped up.

''What kind of hostiles are we looking at here, what are the natives like.''

Flint responded to Robertson's gruff and to the point demeanor coolly.

''The natives haven't had any prior contact with humans until now. Most of them see us as a threat and have retreated away from humans. Because there is very little unclaimed territory left, we are going to be dealing with them.''

Robertson nodded, shooting back with a comment.

''They are going to feel threatened and up against a wall. Fighting them is going to leave us with a bunch of angry nations breathing down our neck. I think its best we try to involve them. It won't be too hard to teach them how to build houses and such. We can pay them and allow them to purchase things. It'll help transition them to our society. Provided we are nice to them, they will respond well. We don't need to go knocking down their settlements or anything.''

The room went silent though most nodded in agreement. The meeting lasted nearly eight hours, though for the most part, everyone seemed to agree. Andrews and Robertson brought valuable insight into the mission. Robertson was considered so valuable that he was instated as Task Force commander on behalf of both the militaries of Orbath and Throppe.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A combined Task Force of Orbathian, Throppe and Royal Orbathian Foreign Legion soldiers would be deployed to secure the claim. The morning after the meeting, ports bustled with activity as ships were loaded with the needed supplies and munitions. Two waves of ships would be sent, the first consisting of the 1st Expeditionary Group. It would be their job to firstly secure a beach head, then expand outwards building a runway and securing several strategic locations. Follow on naval forces would consist of soldiers for securing the entire claim, supplies and a small number of civilian contractors. As soon as a runway was established, soldiers and supplies could be brought in from the air, greatly speeding up the process of securing the claim. If things went according to plan, it was expected to only take a week to secure the entire claim.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Six Days Later
The grey ships sparkled in the sun. partly due to having been polished but also because the sky was bare, allowing the sun to shine down upon the fleet unobstructed. General Robertson sat in the bridge, a place he'd never expected to be again. He wasn't sure if he wanted to take on the role of Task Force commander but ever since he'd left the military even being head of a colony didn't fill the space the military did. There were so many things about the military and the navy in particular that made him reluctant to give it up. Although he didn't want to recognize it, he wasn't physically as fit as he used to and he wondered if he could pass the physical tests. He looked out all around him, first at the bright blue sea and then at the bright escort ships that surrounded him. Many of the ships were fairly new and more advanced than the ships he served on. A notable difference was actually on the ship he was aboard, the ONS Vigilance, an Indestructible Class Carrier. Not only could he carry more aircraft than his old ship, the ONS Overstrike but it was also well armed, capable of defending itself from the air or sea.

He watched a touch screen map, noting the position of his fleet and the site he had chosen for a landing. For the past week he'd studied satellite images, finally deciding on the northernmost low lying beach, one of very few available. From what he could see, much of the shore consisted of cliffs and rolling hills which smoothed out further into the claim. Other than that, much of the area was flat and no major rivers, lakes, depressions or mountains existed, giving him nothing to use as a tactical advantage or to assist in marking a border. To him it mattered little, during his time in Cripistan he'd managed to keep two warring colonies apart that shared the same border and he didn't expect much in the way of resistance from anyone. It was his hope that people would keep to themselves at least until he established himself, from there he could work on creating ties.

Robertson had chosen a dawn landing, it would be much safer for everyone to land in daylight, the soldiers would be well rested and he thought they might appear less threatening to the natives if the came at night. He studied the map once again, if they maintained their current heading and speed they would arrive at the right position off the coast the next morning.

Iscardia

Iscardia's population was 3,060,000. Silk production was booming, and falling prices were resulting in increased demand. Service industrues were widespread, both in the plantation towns and the coastal cities.

Iscardia's Senator had been appointed to the Committee on Industrial Agriculture. Her Governor had been put on the A-list for Lord Deithlin's exclusive annual ball. As the colony prospered, so did those who governed it.

OOC: I forgot all about this but I still want to participate; I wish I could have expanded up north but it's not a problem for me.....

Ixanian Giscardia, though marked with the record of being the smallest colony that the Ixanian Empire posessed, was standing tall with the larger colonies with fully developed settlements and ports which took in imports of food and medicine from the homeland every month and, indeed, Her Majesty's Government had been quite pleased with the work that the Viceroy had been producing with his entourage of associates; it was even rumored that the Empress Dowager of Ixania had decided to visit Giscardia in about a week which excited the masses who were vehemently supportive of Ixanian Monarchism with their coins having the Empress' face upon them as did their paper money bills.

A battleship would be used to transport the widowed Empress Dowager to the smallest colony of her beloved nation and, hopefully, the other colonies wouldn't impede the ship's path. The Empress would have visited had it not been for her upcoming trip to Cazelia but she didn't let that impede her desire to bestow her best wishes to the mother she loved. Next to the Empress and the rest of the Imperial Family, the Empress Dowager carried a lot of fans under her belt.

She had been a prime German beauty, in the words of article writers, and she still had a youthful vitality despite the ongoing aging process. Eventually her ship reached Giscardian waters and, during one night, the Empress Dowager stood outside, looking upon the calm waters of the sea, and remembering the days she had set sail in Ixanian waters with her husband, the father of her children, the man she had loved with a grand devotion. A soldier came up towards her with a bow to announce that they would land soon. She smiled sweetly, thanked him in German, and then looked back at the water and the stars above.

OOC: I'd have posted her landing in this post but I have no time so it will come later; I ask that all of you refrain from attacking this ship and so on. I really don't want the Empress Dowager kidnapped, etc.

OOC: No, it's Gataway I had the issue with, but since he refused to ever actually physically do anything about my landing troops on what he "claimed" (he made an OOC comment for it, I made IC moves, we both think we're in the right...) and has since then apparently dropped out of the thread, I have decided it's mine.

(Yours was just a convenient map to quote)
