Redeeming A Nation

Ascelonia
11-10-2008, 01:21
Looking across the expanding territories of Ascelonia, President Christopher Frederickson frowned. Their gains were both ill-gotten and just plain evil. He didn't like to take credit for it, but if it kept him in office, he would do it.

The deaths of multiple nations had been forced by the Central Ascelonian Party. They gained control of half of Parliament not more than ten years ago. Ever since, their control of the Ascelonia was growing deeper and deeper like a parasite entrenched and multiplying within the bowels of a greater creature.

Christopher's party had been marginalized, the only thing that was keeping him in power was agreeing to the demands of the CAP. The Ascelonian Democratic Party had been marginalized by constant defeats. On the other spectrum, the Southern Conservative Party had split the majority of the remaining seats with the Anarchists. The country was falling apart rapidly. The Anarchists and the CAP were at total war. Violence ruled the streets and the casualties were listed on the front pages of newspapers everday. The CAP held an obvious upper hand, but a foreign power could intervene then the scales could be tipped.

Christopher was a lame duck. The CAP were nominating their own candidate for the first time ever or at least planning to. Thomas Schnider was a racist who delivered fiery speeches. He was a handsome young man and his extremely bigotry was usually ignored in exchange for more inspiring quotes about "triumphing over demons" and redeeming themselves.

Anarchists could not find a better leader than Edward Harrison. The man was of an opposing race, an opposing lifestyle, an opposing personality, and an opposing political view to Thomas Schnider. The two were on extreme ends of the political spectrum. In the middle were mostly candidates who were trying to stop the country from going either way. Though, there were so many of them that they obviously wouldn't stand a chance against the CAP or the Anarchists in the general election.

The CAP had wanted too much from Christopher. They gave him an order that he couldn't carry out. The complete and utter destruction of all impure people. Though this implied the destruction of races, it actually referred to mass murder of people below an IQ line and those who could not pass a fitness test. Chris knew that millions fell below those criteria (the Ascelonian citizens prided themselves on fitness and intelligence) and would not pass the order. He sighed heavily as he knew he would be voted out next year and, in the year after that, the CAP would gain complete control of the nation.

Description of Political Parties

Central Ascelonian Party- A group of national socialists who prefer to exterminate based on eugenics as opposed to race. They control a significant amount of people in the government and military. They will use any means to get what they want.

Anarchists- A relatively unorganized group bound together by the ideology of no government. Though, most of them see that this can be achieved by taking control of the government and disbanding it, many choose to resort to violence.

Ascelonian Communist Party- Founded by Anarchists unhappy by the Anarchist leaders and Liberatarians who were disatisfied by the moderate politics of the Northern Liberal Party.

Southern Conservative Party- A small group of everyday Ascelonians who want family values and a democratic government with strong federal powers to be the main issues.

Ascelonian Democratic Party- A dying party that has been the opposition to the SCP. They take a more liberal stance on the issues, but place emphasis on the stability of the nation.

Freedom Party- Student activists and nationalists within Ascelonian colonies and territories that want to break up Ascelonia into smaller countries.

Message from the Office of President Christopher Frederickson

We are looking for allies in this coming election. We have forsaken alliances and ignored friendships in the past, but our policy of isolationism is over. We CANNOT let these fascists claim power. We must, at all costs, seek to preserve order and civility within this state. Together we can stop the CAP. In short, I need assistance in accomplishing such a feat.

Sincerely,
Christopher Frederickson
President of Ascelonia

"My God, We're behind by 14 points. Have you ever considered allying with the Anarchists?" Frederickson's advisor suggested while puffing on a thick cigar. Karl Praxim was an anti-fascist to the core. Though, he did not agree with the concept of anarchy, he would've done anything to see the CAP lose the election.

"No," said Chris firmly. "We cannot let either of them succeed. Ultimately, their rivalry should be their downfall."

An unnatural silence fell upon the office. Smoke rings floated about the office. Frederickson picked his advisors for their skill not for their personality. He, personally, regretted it. He had a great dislike of smokers.

"I think that we need to make some political alliances. It doesn't matter if they're temporary. We need secure enough votes to keep the CAP out of office," Karl spoke and puffed a cloud of smoke in between every sentence. "You also need to campaign more in the West. The voters there are avidly against you for your annexation of their homelands, but they should join your ranks because they obviously hate the fascists and the anarchists. Before you can do that, you need to somehow take the Freedom Party out of the fight."

"All good ideas. I will take them into consideration," said Chris thinking. "Get me my secretary."

OOC: No... not at all, but I forgot to outline some rules...

1. No assassinations without my approval.
2. Ask me, if you're planning on doing something that might seriously change how this thing is RPed.
3. Post forces or money you're willing to donate.
4. There is an alternative option to send people to keep watch on the situation or try to do covert ops or take advantage of Ascelonia's predicament.

"Look at them... They're worshipping me. They are mere ants- perhaps, a better term- pawns, in a great game of political chess," Thomas grinned deviously to his political advisor. The people couldn't hear his whispers over their screams.

"I believe this election's in the bag," the advisor forced a nervous smile. His arms were shaking.

"Don't worry, Mike! Nothing bad's going to happen!" Thomas whispers increased slightly in volume.

"Okay... if you say so," said the advisor folding one hand over the other in a futile attempt to stop the shaking. Thomas rose as it was his turn to give a speech. A blue cross of Lorraine to his back draped over a black background. No one was sure what it meant. The ultimate struggle of a good cause against a sea of evil or maybe it meant black for constancy and blue for courage/nobility or perhaps it was just a good design...

Over the radio, Edward listened angrily to every word Thomas spoke. Especially infuriating was to here Thomas trying to stifle and talk over the endless cheers and clapping.

"People! People of Ascelonia! Please! Please! Let me speak!"- The din slowly calmed down- "Ten years ago, you elected the first CAP representatives into control of a once defunct Parliament. The Parliament was merely a puppet government installed by greedy capitalists and foreign investors. The previous Parliament had led us down a dangerous path of foreign aid to nations we could not trust, appeasing businesses during troubled times, and clamping down on YOU, the Ascelonian worker. The middleclassmen.
"They... the corrupt puppets of foreign nations allowed numerous states to be broken off of Great Ascelonia like bread crumbs off of a roll. They allowed the foreigners to seize parts of our nation. ASCELONIAN PEOPLE are now separated from their mother country. ASCELONIAN TERRITORY are now being trampled by the dirty shoes of foreign demons!
"I know that you people are intelligent (after all, you are Ascelonians) and understand what is at stake here. If you re-elect Frederickson or the Anarchists, they will work to undo all that we have done. We have helped businesses expand and grow. We nationalized the mass transit system, expanded, improved, and maintained it with vigilance. We stopped the terrorists from taking the lives of thousands of innocent people. Now, we ask you, to return the favor! Elect me and the CAP representatives to Ascelonia City and we will ensure the restoration of a Golden Age of Ascelonia!"

Screaming erupted and Edward picked up the radio and through it against the wall, shattering it. Idiots... they don't understand the gravity of the situation. He thought. A few Anarchists in the other room rushed in.

"Damn it! That's the third radio! We ain't payin for it this time," said one of them.

"I know. I know. How much do I owe you?" asked Edward leaning back into a section of a sofa.

"Thirty bucks. We oughta start chargin interest too," said the same man walking away. The man showed his displeasure by shaking his head while he walked away. The others approached Edward.

"We heard what's been going on at New Ascelon. The CAP is getting real popular around those parts," said one of the men eyeballing Edward.

"We need an alliance."

An unmarked, seemingly unimportant envelope arrived at the SCP Headquaters by courier. Due to strict confidentiallity requests, the deliverer meerly slipped the small, manilla colored enevlope into the Party's mail box and made all do haste to leave the area.

Inside the envelope was a check for 2 million dollars, as well as a coupon for a free shipment of military hardware in case it was needed. Also incased was a short letter, written on what appeared to be printer paper.

To whom it may concern, Maria Apfelwasser
This donation of monetary and military aid has been made on behalf of our country to your honorable party in hopes that it will be put to good use during the coming weeks. SCP Steps Up Advertising

Today, advertisements began flowing across the airwaves as the Southern Conservative Party began increasing advertising all across the country. Party insiders claim that an undisclosed source has donated a total of two million dollars to their cause.

The advertisements consist of a combination of attack ads against the Central Ascelonian Party and witty sarcasm against the Anarchists. The current administration was not off-limits either.

Officials from the CAP claim that the SCP is being endorsed by foreign devils while the Anarchists believe that the SCP is infringing on Civil Rights in southern Ascelonian provinces. Nevertheless, the popularity of the SCP is increasing due to Maria Apfelwasser, who's clever mix of sarcasm and facts are pulling her ahead in the polls.

A backdoor meeting in the local pub in Fremont, a little town outside of Ascelonia City. Patricia Kirov, a long disgruntled Anarchist, was meeting with a group of people who shared the same interests. As she stepped into the pub, the acrid stench of tobacco and the ambigious odor of alcohol wrapped around her.

"Hey over, here!" waved a man who was surprisingly sober. She followed the sound to a table filled with sober people. They were dressed very well, the type you'd expect to meet in a small town on a Sunday right after church services had been finished.

"So why are we here?" asked a man with a scar running down the side of his cheek. Lucas Ferguson had fought as colonel of the Red Rovers or the 5th Cavalry. They earned the nickname for their political beliefs and their strict obedience.

"You know why we're here..." Patricia shot a serious look at him. She pulled up a chair. "We're here to talk about a new political party."

"Wha?" a man stopped himself halfway before completing the first in a three word question that was really common those days. He was Shawn Percival, the man who ran the pub. "You can't be serious... Frederickson won't tolerate this."

"Pish, posh. We thought he couldn't tolerate the Anarchists and the CAP and look what happened. They're the two most powerful parties," said Jack Harding, a notable journalist.

"Exactly," agreed Patricia smiling. She reached into her front pocket and drew out a sleek black cigarette holder. "Anybody got a fag and a lighter?"

"You know, I cannot help the party if the president ever orders the military to disband it," said Lucas rolling a cigarette across the table and tossing a lighter. Patricia made an admirable catch and placed the cigarette in the holder. She lit up and began puffing thick, gray clouds of smoke.

"Trust me... He won't."

"I don't fully understand your concern about Ascelonia. Our colony island wasn't part of that nation. The Fascists wouldn't attempt to reclaim something that wasn't there's to begin with," says Independent Ironmany's Secretary of Defence.
"The colony state of Beta is not too far from Ascalonia. Violence that is sure to arise from that country will no doubt reach Beta. Even if the Ascelonians don't attack, the civil unrest will likely inspire an uprising from the Betans. I will take no chances. Especially since Beta has been our primary source of biodiesel. Should it fall, our alternative fuel automobiles will be without power," explains Emperor Ironsaber.
"I want the garrison reinforced ASAP," he adds.
"What if the Ascelonians percieve the increased military presence as a threat? They might be provoked into attacking us," Sec Def replies.
"Then the full might of Independent Ironmany will be brought to bear on Ascelonia."
"Will there be anything else Emperor?"

Communiqué from the Ascelonian Communist Party

We are asking for proletarian brothers within Ascelonia and other nations to aid us in our great struggle against the oppressive capitalists. "This isn't good. This isn't good at all," mutters a concern Corporate Manager of Textile and Cotton Company. "If Ascelonia becomes communist, it will be a ripple affect. Several overseas colonies that we have recieved most of our materials from will attempt to break away from Ironmany's capital regime. We'll lose too much for our economy to continue, let alone prosper. Something must be done."
"I agree. The government must get involved more directly. We have to stop this before it starts," says his assistant. "But knowing Emperor Ironsaber, he must have something planned already."
The manager sighed. "I was afraid of that."

"The situation is heading towards an unpleasent direction. The last thing I want is revolution to spread out among my colonies. Espescially with communism. How much reinforcement was being sent to Beta?" asks Emperor Ironsaber.
"5,000," an aide respond.
"Triple it, and send a destroyer along with them to Beta."

Violence erupted like a Volcano... it was 11 months 10 days before the national election and only 5 days before the parliamentary election. The Anarchist stormtroopers began attacking offices, headquarters, and businesses controlled by the CAP. The CAP responded by recruiting the aid of a few people in the military. The streets were dotted with bloody corpses and blood... a substance rich with hemoglobin carrying the iron which contained life-giving oxygen flowed freely through the streets. Bringing new meaning to the words "Blut und Eisen".

Red rivers drained and trickled into gutters. Water treatment plants shut down as a boil order was initiated. It didn't help much. When people turned on their taps, red water would flow out. Shouting, fighting, and the occasional gunshot echoed through the streets.

President Christopher Frederickson looked out across the city. A salty tear slipped down the side of his face as smoke rose out of the streets from fires set out of hatred. Stormtroopers from both sides and the army were tearing the city apart. The Southern Conservative Party stormtroopers were about to enter the fray as well.

"DAMN IT!!!" screamed Christopher as he tried to get his subordinates on the line. His secretaries were more and more useless. Most of the staff in the Presidential Mansion had either fled or were hiding. The three secretaries in his office barely heard a radio message above the static. The Independent Ironmany would be aiding the government in stabilizing the country.

It was probably too little, too late. Thoughts danced in the president's mind. The telegram wires had been cut. Radio stations were being attacked. The country was falling apart. It was only 3 days till the parliamentary elections. This can't go on. A bomb exploded. Two secretaries jumped up to see what was going on. A crowd of Anarchists were storming the Mansion.

About thirty Anarchists, most were bearing semi-automatic rifles and wearing black bandanas over their faces. Some chose cruder weapons instead. They chose axes, butcher knives, or swords (God knows where they got them). There was one question... Where were the guards? Where were the Goddamn guards?

"Greetings!" shouted an ambassador as he tried to greet the Bushdome representatives. Ascelon City was a much more stable place due to it's more conservative population. There would be less violence here. Though the occasional gunshot might slip past your ear, it was not uncommon these days. The police were incompetent and easily influenced by anyone with enough credits.

The ambassador stretched his hand forward to greet the representatives, but instead the Bushdome observers were rewarded with an explosion of blood. The two secret service guards protecting the ambassador ducked and try to herd the observers to a helicopter nearby.

BOOM! An explosion had ripped through the Kirbing International Airport. It was clear that the Anarchists or the CAP or some people were taking this too far. Screams erupted from the airport immediately afterwards.

"What the-?" Christopher looked up. "My God... the world is falling apart before my eyes... foreign invaders..."

"There may be a chance that they're just fighters aiding us," said the last secretary. The other two had been sent out to restore communications. They never came back.

"Why would they send fighters?" he pondered. A guard rushed in. He was carrying a heavy assault rifle.

"STOP! I order you to stop!" screamed the President as the soldier kept running. The president followed after him. It was his pet peeve, insubordinance. The soldier stopped and panted. He bore the look of shame on his face. "It's okay boy... It's okay..."

"I'm sorry. We got trained with live rounds. We got trained with hand to hand combat against POWs and robots. We were kicked, punched, and hit with everything, but we were trained for this. We weren't trained to shoot civilians. We weren't trained to fight people that we could meet walking down 'Anytown, Ascelonia'," he panted as tears mixed with sweat on his face. "We ran... couple of us ran inside. The others ran out and were shot down. Jim... he got hit with an axe. I bolted. I'm sorry. Most of the people we fought were people who couldn't speak our language. People of races that we probably wouldn't see more than an occasion."

The Anarchy signs were being spray-painted all over the city. The Ascelonian flag was being burned all across the city in demonstrations. The fighting had died down and the Anarchists had control of the city. Where the hell were the CAP? Eddie thought.

He was looking at Fort Zenith from behind a pillar of an apartment building. He didn't want to risk being shot. The soldiers inside the fort fired a couple of artillery rounds into the street, but they refused to damage the city any further. The soldiers were exchanging rounds with the Anarchists down below.

A squad of soldiers charged down the street. The Anarchists shifted their attention for a few short seconds to cut the soldiers down. Casualties were piling up as the soldiers became more and more stubborn. A roaring of engines could be heard...

Five military trucks carrying the great blue cross of Lorraine on their hoods and the CAP flags hanging over their khaki canvas'. Microphones blasted, "Surrender now or die, Anarchist pigs."

Two very persistent Anarchists stood in the street firing at the trucks, which slammed into them at a decent forty miles per hour. Soldiers in the fort stopped firing and cheered as the CAP relieved them from the Anarchists.

Edward's guards pulled him into the apartment building. He struggled to light a cigar as they made their way up the stairs. Troops wearing hobnailed jackboots began deploying from the trucks and dispersing the Anarchists who had been firing hopelessly at the canvas of the trucks, which were made of thick bulletproof denim.

The trucks groaned as Anarchists dropped their weapons, one by one. The trucks soon started roaring down the streets, crushing the Anarchists beneath them. The impact either killed them instantly or made them cripples for the rest of their lives.

"Falkasia's getting involved, too?" asked Thomas in a rather furious tone of voice. Not only that, but the messenger in the room smelt like cigarettes. Thomas hated cigars and the CAP had them banned. Unfortunately, they didn't have the capacity to enforce it.

"Yes, sir. Falkasia is endorsing the SCP," he mumbled nervously and cowered into a semi-fetal position as Thomas rose almost into a striking stance.

"This could get ugly if the Falkasians interfere. I want the violence stopped immediately. Order the stormtroopers to stop the beatings and killings. Just clear the streets of the Anarchist vermin," Thomas said distastefully.

Harsh light flared to life on the TV screen as a bomb detonated in Ascelon city, coloring his hands with wan light. John Decartus sighed as the first bomb was followed by another. More light spilled into the dark room.

"Friend, it is not healthy to read in the dark," Gustaf rumbled.

"Of course, but watching taxpayer dollars being thrown down the drain is the worse alternative I'm afraid."

The wisened Lord Commandant leaned against the door frame. Stattatco gunfire filtered into the room, across several million miles of Holy Terra. His friends face was puckered in a sour expression. Not even a lemon would have been bitter enough to prompt such an expression.

"Instability is a son of a bitch Gustaf, and when I meet the donkey that made the word, I will punch him in the face."

"I don't see why you're so angry about this brother."

The Magister of Foreign Diplomacy sighed, "It's something called credibility Gustaf. When the fireworks that we have planned go off, we may have none. Who the hell would let a Comguard set foot on their soil after this? Or a Drakonicum citizen for that matter?"

Gustaf had no answer.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jorghens dug furiously, but with control spurring himself onward as his entrenching tool bit into Terra. There was a thunk as the spade hit something solid, and he called out. Within moments, the ten of them had retrieved a massive box from the soil. There was a noise of gears for a small moment before the box opened with a click. Ignoring the musty smell, he pulled off the cloth padding and revealed equipment that were decidedly not ceremonial.

The President, his secretary, and a guard cowered in the Presidential Office. The Anarchists would have a hard time finding it, because the entrance to it was disguised as a wall. Unless... knocking. Knock! Knock! Silence... they couldn't give away their position. The President and his secretary got behind his desk while the boy raised his gun to the door.

BAM! The door creaked open. Oh... it was just a group of survivors. Or so they thought as their bloody bodies fell on the floor. The boy had lowered his assault rifle when he saw the supposedly friendlies, but failed to raise it back in time to confront the mob of angry Anarchists.

He cursed as the Anarchists pumped a few rounds into his body. Diarrhetic expletives streamed out of his mouth as he hit the floor. An Anarchist carrying a pitchfork ran it through the poor bastard. Blood poured out of the boy's mouth like a fountain. The red liquid stained the Anarchist's clothing. The Anarchist smiled and wore the blood almost like a badge of honor.

They began knocking over bookshelves, ripping up books and shattering picture frames and plant pots. They were working their way to the desk. The Anarchists wanted to instill fear upon their victims. The secretary pulled a pistol out and began firing at the Anarchists. Two of them hit the ground.

Sadly, an Anarchist whipped around and nailed the secretary's hand to the floor with three shots. Another revolutionary ran over and placed an axe in the secretary's chest. They dragged the president out and were prepared to kill him.

The military were pulling out anti-tank guns and machineguns into the fray. Anarchists who were trying to retake city centers were slaughtered. The streets were littered with the bodies and black blood-stained bandanas of the Anarchist movement. Edward stole a peak at the city outside. The fires had been stamped out and the CAP were now out of control. They were killing off surrendering Anarchists.

---

Over at the Anarchist headquarters in Ophelia Elementary School, the CAP had set up five gatling guns facing all around the school not to mention the countless machineguns aimed into the building. Gregor Philander raised his microphone, "Get the hell outta there with your hands up and no one get's hurt."

"Screw you!" came a shout from the building. Guns blazed immediately. Bullets flew through the glass windows. The doors of the back entrance opened as the Anarchists tried to retreat. They were gunned down like dogs. CAP officers surveying the damage were throwing up and crying. There were still children there.

"Goddamn cowards," said Gregor disdainfully. "It's like hiding behind a puppy."

"What the hell was that?" kept echoing over and over in his radio like a broken record. Gregor picked it up and answered, "What?"

"IS THAT GUNFIRE I HEARD??? I THOUGHT I ORDERED YOU NOT TO KILL ANYONE!!!"

Gregor held the radio away from his ears. Screw him. He thought. He picked up his pistol and shot in the air three times. His men all turned to face him. He waved his arm and they began moving out.

The Anarchists relented. A few guards entered the room and slaughtered the last of the Anarchists. The agents belonged to Independent Ironmany.

"Thank God," the president gasped a sigh of relief. Fighters zooming overhead began pulling out of Ascelonian airspace. It was still disappointing. The CAP would be hailed as heroes.

It was the day before Parliamentary elections and the CAP had taken a humongous lead across all provinces in Ascelonia. They were deemed as the heroes of the Black Night (Not a racial slur, but a reference to the Anarchist usage of the color). The SCP were also stepping up the ladder due to advertising. The President's party did not gain much. Rarely anybody heard about the attempted assassination.

OOC: Sure. I'll get you started.

The secret service guards were shocked when they came back into the hotel rooms only to find them empty. They had only been gone for a few hours dining at a fancy restaurant. Where had they gone?

News Brief on Crisis from Anarcomm:

The people of Anarcomm had their eyes glued to Ascelonia and its current crisis. Prime Minister Collette O'Leary (Social Liberal Party) had made it known that she was monitoring the situation. Former Chairman of the National Workers Council Jean Lambert (Independent), now the leader of a militant trade union, held rallies to show solidarity with the Anarchists of the Black Night and promised to help in the event of a revolutionary insurgency. Lambert's union donated 500,000 dollars to the Anarchists and another 500,000 to the Communist Party.

O'Leary felt that it was time to act before the parliamentary election. She announced government support for a popular front against CAP, and urged voters to support Frederickson's attempts to stabilize the country. Lambert co-endorsed the Communists and Anarchists, but denounced the Southern Conservative Party along with CAP saying both should be kept out of government.

O'Leary offered support and friendship to Frederickson's government and she and Lambert both offered to hold negotiate a coalition against the CAP after the parliamentary elections.

"The polls are closer than ever..." Christopher frowned as he watched the flash across the screen. The Communists had came out of nowhere and were now becoming powerful. An alliance... that's what they needed. The Anarchists were now getting warmer to the Communists. There was no one to ally with. The CAP were growing warmer to the SCP. The Freedom Party was the only "major" political party remaining. There was no reason to join forces with them. Besides... it would be political suicide.

"Votes have been pouring in the morning and we are here to give our midday results. It is a deadheat, but the CAP-SCP alliance is holding up. The CAP will lose seats, but maintain it's current control of the Parliament if this pattern continues. On the other hand, the Anarchists and Communists will have control of the other half of Parliament."

The CAP would lose an extraordinary amount seats in the Parliament. Virtually half of their seats had been lost. It was the Communists'. It had to have been. The Anarchists had been declared criminals and villains. It was the commies who brought them back. Thomas pondered about what his next political move should be. He drew out some plans and called a few party elites. He wore his leather trenchcoat and a business hat proudly.

Thomas Schnider was about to shake things up...

They made alliances. The SCP allied with the CAP because they were both conservative. The Anarchists allied with the ACP because they were both leftist.

"Greetings, friends from the nation of Bushdome," said an Anarchist in a rather serious tone of voice. "We have matters to discuss... especially to collapse of the government. Take off your foreign aid worker disguises. You're liable to get shot in these parts."

The Anarchist wore the CAP blue cross of Lorraine arm band around his right arm. It was pretty much expected of anyone active in politics or government. He led the Bushdome representatives towards the beehive of Anarchist activity.

"Perfect... the foreigners are falling right into our plans," said the new Anarcho-Communist leader, Orion Turner. He wore a black cap with a red hawk on it. He was eyeing a large map set before him. It was of the great nation of Ascelonia.

"Excuse me. I would prefer it if you didn't say it in front of our guests..." said an Anarchist leading the representatives from Bushdome.

"What? Why are you still wearing that piece of %&^*!" screamed Orion indignantly.
