The Onager is the ancient Greek name for a wild and untamable animal similar to the donkey that at one time could be found around the Mediterranean Sea. Eventually the word’s meaning came to include the mule, and Onagers were used by militaries throughout the ancient world to carry the supplies needed by armies across any terrain and all distances. In today’s world, transporting supplies across battlefields is just as important to the modern army as it was to our ancient predecessors. Today’s Onager is a new unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) that is STWs newest solution to the constant need to improve battlefield logistics, indeed modern forces may come to rely on the Onager today as much as they have in ancient times.

Overview
The Onager UGV is designed as a semi-autonomous robotic vehicle that is also capable of being teleoperated by a remote operator. It is moderately fast, with a top speed approaching 25 km/h, designed with modular capabilities, and armored well enough to survive hits from weapons using .50 caliber BMG shells or their equivalent. The primary function of the Onager is to transport supplies such as weapons, ammunition, or water across the battlefield to be quickly and efficiently distributed among troops in combat areas; it is also capable of performing reconnaissance and medivac missions, and acting as mobile cover for fire teams in open areas.

Capabilities
The primary role of the Onager is the transportation of supplies through combat zones where regular soldiers are at risk of being caught in a cross fire or killed by enemy ambushes, it allows soldiers to stay with the relative safety of their fire teams and eliminates the need to risk the lives of soldiers to ensure units continue to be supplied with battlefield necessities. Each Onager is equipped with a 45 Kilowatt electric engine and enough battery power to run for about 12 hours without recharging, it has a six-wheel motor-in-hub drive train that gives it the capability to traverse the roughest terrain with relative ease. 30 cm of ground clearance allow the Onager to maneuver over obstacles including logs, stairs, and rock faces while a shock mounted skid plate protects the vehicle’s underbelly from being damaged by debris. Each solid rubber wheel has an individual suspension with selectable stiffness that allows the vehicle to be adjusted for the best possible utility in all terrain, in tests the Onager was even able to negotiate a 30 degree side slope, climb steep hills, and negotiate through a .5 meter deep ditch with ease. The Onager’s frame was designed to be light weight and rugged, including high strength aluminum tubes reinforced with titanium nodes.
The Onager has a 3 and ΒΌ cubic meter interior storage space accessible from a sliding door located on the back of the vehicle, it can hold a payload of up to 750 kilograms and maintain top speed and performance; the cargo hold also includes a power outlet for electronic devices to be plugged in for power. The Onager can also be equipped with a “Medical Pod” capable of carrying a single patient; the medical pod can be slid in to the Onager’s cargo compartment and is then bolted in for security. The medical pod draws its energy from the Onager’s own power source and includes a single neon lamp, a supply of blood plasma, a small surgical kit, and basic vital sign monitoring devices attached to a 2.2 meter long slide out gurney tray. Though not spacious, the medical pod equipped Onager can carry wounded soldiers back to cas-evac points faster than any human being and all the while protects them from enemy fire.
The Onager is also quite capable of filling a reconnaissance role, supplying information to friendly air and ground units, even while performing another mission; it comes equipped with a 2 meter tall telescoping mast that allows it to use its sensors more efficiently.

Defense
Because of this vehicles relative low mass, standard armor types could not be mounted on the Onager in any sufficient amount to provide the level of protection needed for the Onager to work at peak efficiency. To address this issue STW created a new type of light vehicle armor, capable of stopping any type of small arms fire and even defeat attacks from weapons using 12.17 mm BMG rounds. This new armor consists of two layers; the first layer is made from ballistic resistant polyethylene, a rigid plastic material that works by encasing impacting projectiles in multiple layers of armor, preventing them from ricocheting unlike standard armor, the surface can be painted to any colors desired; the second layer consists of ceramics. The armor is 4 centimeters thick and is applied to the vehicle in 211 molded to shape panels that are 30 centimeters square in area. The separate panels can each be replaced individually and weigh in at only 6 kilograms each, making repairs to the vehicle exterior a job that only takes minutes even when performed by a single technician. Several hundred test panels were tested thoroughly and proved nearly impervious to small arms ranging from 5.56 to 7.62 mm, each test panel was also able to defeat 2 to 3 hits from a 12.17 mm BMG round fired at 100 meters.

OOC: just to put you out your misery....
~IC:

"When is it available for export?" thought a general in the Burtilanian Land Army, after she had reviewed the leaflet. She was very interested in intertwining robots in with the usual army.
She decided to start researching, to try and find out something.

OOC: It weighs 3,000 tons?

OOC: I believe he's referring to Metric tonnes (1,000kg), as opposed to the Imperial (2,240lbs) ton.

I use the Imperial system normally, in my own notes I wrote it out as 25 mph, I convert everything to metric because that's what my nation uses IC. I must had looked at my notes (which would read 25 mph (40 km)) and typed 25 instead. The missed it in subsequent proofreads. Thanks for pointing that out.

OOC: I suspected something along the lines of such. 40 is still pretty slow. I know of tanks which can do 60. Your call though.

Its job is mainly to carry things back and forth, speed isn't as much a necessity as stability. Its actually a bit faster than most UGVs with the notable exception of the Crusher.
