[Turns out while I never cross posted this to NS. >_> I can't give you the specifics of the cable design because I have no idea which of the concepts would work (yay JBIS) - but wth]

Press release, Dynamic Cable Systems.

Public Relations for Dynamic Cable Systems of Battleford, Izistan revealed today that installation of the first dynamic cable megastructure in in the world had completed priliminary launch testing of several five ton test payloads in succession.

"Advances in Izistani meso-engineering, namely reduntant meso-actuator system have allowed for the construction of massive active structures with built in protection from snaking failure modes."

The first of three such megastructures on the coast of the Izistani equatorial colony of Volta. With a expected electrical draw of some fifty one gigawatts, the site is well suited to providing clean energy from extensive OTEC plants and hydroelectric sites dedicated to the agri-formation of the savannah by the Greater Hutterite Cooperative. Redundant fusion systems are expected to come online as deuterium extraction is added to OTEC capabilities.

Expected mass launch capacity is 438 kilotonnes of material from the three sites at maximum operating capacity a year. "We fully expect that this will result in the conquest of near-earth space - cheaply and safely. even with worse case failure modes our cables are deployed over the ocean - zero risk to anyone."

The other two sites are believed to be beginning testing this week. The entire system should be online within two years. Although Dynamic Cable says that the system is man-rated - "We expect that mass passenger requirements will be fulfilled by the single stage to tether work ongoing at Beluga Aerospace. We will be manufacturing the tethers, the actual hypersonic is going to beat the hell out of Barrister and operate from normal airports."
