"Captain Octavius Flavius, Captain's Log, 0900 standard time, Octamus Prime, 1004 CE. We have traveled a great distance from The Outlands System. No sentient life has been discovered on any planet we have discovered thus far. Efforts are still being made to carry on despite the crew getting restless about a possible ship wide epidemic from a disease encountered on Planet XZ341, it seems to only affect the Centurian crewmen and all tests thus far have failed to identify the cause nor the exact effect of the disease. All four Centurian marines who landed on Planet XZ341 and two other Centurian crewmen who had interaction with them have been quarantined in the Medical Bay. I have decided not to turn around and to continue with our mission. Foraging expeditions have recovered a great deal of edible substances from the recently explored Omicron System, food supply will not be an issue for a great deal of time. All systems are normal and supply is adequate. Further report on the disease shall be given when new information has been discovered. Flavius out."

The captain stood alone in the center of his quarters in a white circular rim that had several panels around it and a large screen facing the ring. He pressed a few buttons and the transmission was over. He knew that the council would perk up at the mention of this "Disease" and might terminate the expedition especially since it only affected Centurians, it could be used as a weapon against them. At this point in time he was divided on his loyalty between his kind and his duty as an officer of the Confederacy. Honor bound, he opted to follow the proper chain of command. His superior could decide how to handle the situation.

With a sigh, he stepped out of the ring and approached the door which opened automatically with a hiss and closed behind him as he left. He made his way to the bridge of the modified J-8LF Liberator Class Frigate he was put in command of. As he passed through the halls to the bridge, the crewmen perked up and snapped to attention till he passed, strict discipline was enforced in the ICAF. Not snapping to attention in front of a superior was a serious infraction.

Captain Flavius stood at the helm of the bridge in the command center. He looked to his communications officer and said, "Lieutenant, send another transmission out, if their are any intelligent beings in this system they should be able to pick it up and decode it."

The man at the console who the order was directed towards immediately set out releasing another general transmission in a variety of frequencies and waves to ensure that it had the highest chance of being intercepted.

The decoded message read decoded from binary and other forms of codes -

To whomever may have found this message, I greet you as a peaceful diplomat seeking contact with outside worlds on behalf of my government. We are no threat and only lightly armed, we come in peace. Please respond so that communication might ensue.

The part about only being lightly armed was only half true. The ship was heavily armed for its size and carried a great load of marines but in comparison to most military ships and their sizes, the threat posed by this ship was minimal.

OOC: Open to anyone, this is just an introductory thread for me in the FT community. Not really looking for a fight but will if necessary. Just an exploratory effort on my part.

OOC: Mind if I play owner of the system?
IC:

A medium sized Greywatch outpost sat idlely in orbit of a planet in the inner system. Not much really happened here, people back at Prime were deciding whether the location would make for a good colonization area or not. It had been about a week since the people on board had seen a ship of any kind. A bored officer leaned back in his wheeled chair, feet up on the control panel. He flipped through a holonovel with a obvious lack of care. There were only a few other people in the control center and they were all too involved in their own activities to give a care about what he was doing. Then, a panel light began to blink. The officer looked at it, the blinking light was supposed to warn of incoming comms. Impossible, Greywatch certainly hadn't sent anyone their way and they were in such a remote part of space that they didn't expect anyone to come this way. He took his feet from the console and began getting to work. A holoscreen appeared in front of him and he began trying to decode the message, setting it to text only format; no need to get everyone else excited if it was nothing. After a few minutes the message appeared clear as day on the screen:
To whomever may have found this message, I greet you as a peaceful diplomat seeking contact with outside worlds on behalf of my government. We are no threat and only lightly armed, we come in peace. Please respond so that communication might ensue.
He was a little taken aback and didn't waste any time in letting everyone else know. "Yo, guys. We have a contact." He said, looking back at the others who all stopped what they were doing. "Psh, nice try Rob. Not buying it." The man rolled his eyes, "Fine then, I"ll forward it to you console. Check it out and tell me if you think I can fake that." The other man looked down to his console and stared, "Shit. We actually do have a contact." Everyone else had already straightened up at this point and a message was sent to the quarters of the outpost commander.
A minute later, a woman walked into the room, "This had better not be your idea of a joke, officer." The man shook his head, "It's legit, look at it." The woman strode over to hima nd began reading, "No shit. Open a channel."
<Unidentified ship, you are in Greywatch observed space. We have no solid claim on the system as of yet but are interested in what you have to say. Please proceed to the coordinates I've attatched to this message. I look forward to this first contact.>
The woman sighed, "Send a message to Prime and get the station ready to recieve. Looks like we're getting some visitors." Rob nodded, "Yes ma'am."
OOC: Let me know if this isn't okay

OOC: Perfect!

The communications console came to life in a fury of activity. The Communications Officer (CO) quickly reacted, despite his surprise at its activity. "Sir we have some kind of a response to our message, decoding now" the CO said methodically. The captain turned his head interested but kept a solid composure as if he was being informed of the morning inspection.

"Excellent Lieutenant, keep communications alive and identify the source of the message." The commander responded. "Sir, some kind of coordinates have been sent. After tracing the source of these messages we have constructed a coordinate system for this system. Response sir?" the officer replied.

Octavius thought for a moment and said, "Tell them we humbly accept their invitation on behalf of the Interstellar Confederacy Of Joukaai. Also tell them that we will soon arrive and to contact us again when they do."

He turned his rotating chair around to face his navigation officer, "Commander, change course to the given location, proceed with caution however ensure all scanners and defensive mechanisms are activated."

Octavius rose and left the bridge to go to the briefing room. He summoned his senior officers and soon several beings entered the room. His human second in command, his marine captain, his chief engineer, and his tactical coordinator all entered and sat in the conference style room. Octavius addressed them, "Gentlemen, loyal officers of the confederacy. Today we have taken another great leap for the confederacy, we may finally report successful contact with an outside entity. These coordinates have been relayed to Hq and the word has been spread. We must proceed with caution however, and try to stay to only basic forms of communication, no gestures or unnecessary banter. We may only insult them. We will land with a squad of our marines. Subcaptain Mark, you will stay aboard the ship, in the event I do not return from our meeting do not look for me, return to HQ so that an adequate retaliation force may be sent. Know your duty this day. Dismissed."

The officers left the room to their respective stations and Octavius suited himself in his dress uniform, though wore a protective atmosphere suit until the location of the planet could be analyzed. The Ship approached the designated location and awaited further response.

"Response ma'am, looks like we'll have company soon." Said Rob with a much calmer composure than before. The commander nodded, "Very well, as soon as they're in range, open bay doors in Hanger 3. I'm going to go get some people together and form a welcoming party." Rob nodded, "Yes ma'am."
The coordinates forwarded were to the station itself, but as the ship got closer, bay doors would open and a signal would actiavte to guide any shuttles or transports that the new contact deployed.
The commander walked around the station, gathering some truthworthy people to act as diplomat-dorts for this first contact with another race. She changed into a fresh uniform and made sure everything on the ship was clean as could be. This certainly wasn't something she, or anyone else, expected, but it certainly was exciting.
