Resources - large amounts of Gold were discovered in 1861, this started a population rush to the region, There were many instances of civil unrest caused by the sudden influx of Gold miners and adventureres. Following the massacre of the entire Mcleod family (12 men women and children), the Knights of Rechburg established several chapter houses, and from these they established law and order.

These include - Rechburg steel, Brunswick & Houston Heavy Industry, Caracas Petroleum, Star Eletronics, Kingston Aviation. Davout Armaments Industries and Diamond Agriculture Corporation.
All these conglomorates employ millions of people in St Gall. However in recent years the province has suffered from over population and pollution. KUNESDORF = Kunesdorf has had a colourful history within the history of the Duchy of Rechburg. Its provisional Governments have been the instigator's of two civil wars and still maintain today a strong independence movement within the provincial government.
The power of the province has for centuries been maintained by the Brunswick family, an enormously wealthy and powerful family within Rechburg society. Kunesdorf was the homeland of the original Gregorian people. The Gregorians were a fanatically strong mercantile race of people that became involved in Rechburg commerce. The Brunswick family can trace their family lineage back to these people and it is from the Gregorian clans that the Brunswicks have and still do draw their atrongest support.
There has been a constant conflict between the Brunswick Provisional Government and the Knights of Rechburg who maintain several chapter houses and institutions within Kunesdorf. Many Kunesdorfians consider these chapter houses and institutions as "occupation Barracks" and bases for "Ducal Propoganda".

A History

As for all things, for the Duchy of Rechburg there was a beginning. As a nation Rechburg was born out of the Lamorian (Barbarians) Invasions 0f 350 AD. Prior to that time the area that currently constitutes as the Duchy of Rechburg was thinly populated by Nomadic Goth tribes with a sprinkling of Gregorian traders (Greek type people), the Gregorian’s representing the larger populations of the few existing towns and villagers.

The Lamorian invasion in 350 AD changed the face of the continent, as the initial wave of invading armies swept the small nomadic tribes aside, the barbarian merchants followed and settled alongside the Gregorian’s.
Both the Lamorian and the Gregorian merchants respected the achievements of each other, both recognised in the other the entrepreneurial energy that drives men to seek profit, which in turn drives the wealth of a nation.

350AD - 500AD
Rechburg Military - 350 AD to 500 AD
Tribal based - with warbands consisting mostly of Foot Soldiers. The leaders (Nobles) fought on horse.

Rechburg Society - 350 AD to 500 AD
Prior to the Lamorian Invasion there were two distinct cultural groups within the Rechburg Region
The Nomads which literally were a Nomadic inter cultural/Racial grouping of tribesmen.
The Gregorians were the Artisans, the merchants and the traditional leaders of the towns that were placed sparingly throughout the region.
The Gregorians rarely fought, though they did produce, buy and sell weapons.

500AD to 950AD
By 500AD the Lamorian merchants had adopted the culture and style of the Gregorian’s, so much so that it became virtually impossible to separate the two races.
In 525AD Emperor Garth Hammerhead settled his court in Venetia, moving from the icy climates of the north to the almost tropical regions around Venetia and Monegro Bay. The court initially a simple hill fortress on coastal plains developed into a cultural and mercantile city.
Out of the increased levels of culture and merchants came a class of aristocrats that were simply known as the Nobles.
The artisans from the east came attracted by the nobility of the court as well as the colour and gaiety that the nobles offered, the merchants came for the riches of the nobility; and the army was officered by the nobility.
It was the nobility that brought true culture and “civilisation” to the continent, apart from Venetia other large towns started to develop, mainly on the southern, and eastern coasts,, these areas being closer to the neighbouring nations and the locality of each town favoured a particular neighbouring trading nation.
The interior and the east areas of Rechburg were extremely arable, the ample food grown there was supplemented by the ores, timber and riches of the northern Alpena Mountains, a harsh and cold area from which the initial Lamorian people had hailed from.

950AD to 1100AD
In 950 AD Emperor Julian II was murdered, this assassination instigated the 100 years war, it was a time of almost constant warfare intermingled with the occasional convenient peace treaty, treaties that were more often than not ripped up before the ink on them dried.
In 1051 the war was over, the rivals exhausted, the nobility classes thoroughly weakened and the continent lay exhausted and in ruins.
Large armies disbanded as the nobles became financially ruined and thus could not pay wages, these men turned to mercenaries and bandits. For over 10 years the continent was plagued by the bands of armed marauding men. Finally with almost all resemblance of culture and economy having been destroyed, the marauders moved on.
From the few Mercenary leaders and their families that remained grew another class of people, they were the Warrior Nobles. These few families gathered around them bands of men, but rather than seek to rob, pillage and destroy these families created a common bond that was sealed in the Knights of Rechburg, the name derived from the fortress of that name on the Regina river near which the treaty was signed and the brotherhood of The Knights of Rechburg began.

1700 to 1800 in summary
The years from 1700 to 1800 were very tumultuous for the Duchy of Rechburg
For many of the early years of the 18th Century little changed the Rechburg society The arly years will be best remembered as the calm before the storm, a time of gentility and innovation before the savagery and destruction of Civil War.

In 1721 the order of the Knights of Rechburg decided to implement change in the entire structure of the Nation. Changes were introduced from the bottom of society to the top.
The Nation was renamed the Electorate of Rechburg, the ruling Brunswick family led by the Duke Karl Brunswick named himself and his family hereditry Electors of Rechburg.

He did this with the support of some very powerful Nobles allied to the Brunswick family, the family had its powerbase in the Province of Kunesdorf.
The order of Knights of Rechburg as was expected protested in this coup for power. However the Brunswick family had carefully planned there moves and the Order found itself being outmanouvered by the Elector Brunswick. With the uspurption of increased power Rechburg was about to be laid open to Brunswick supporters both with Kunesdorf as well as over seas. This opportunistic gathering of Baron robbers intended to take possesion of the nation's raw materials through enforced aquisition. When the program started in the province of caledonia, those who resisted were imprisoned on false charges or dispossessed without restitution. The program extended into other provinces, the Brunswick family gaining strength in these areas by placing their own families and friends in positions of power in each province.

In January 23 1722 in Kunesdorf, the rift between that province and the order of the Knights of Rechburgit came to a head once again when the gangs of Brunswick supporters attacked a Knights of Rechburg Monastic retreat, killing 23 trainee knights as well as all the servants.
The order was outraged as were many of the people of Rechburg, the veil of subservience was lifted of the eyes of the people who began to see that the Elector as a ruler basing his rule on greed and power.
People began to look for someone to resist the Elector, that resistence started within the order of the Knights Of Rechburg.
Meetings were held throughout the nation, meetings organised by the order, the Elector retaliated by making the order illegal. Finally in 1724 resistence to the Elector began, several provinces gathered together to denounce the Elector and his forces, in fact with the Order and later most of the nation declared themselves seperate from the Province of Kunesdorf and its allies.
Initially several other Provinces declared for the Elector, however their support for the Elector was limited, as many men of the allied nations refused to fight; however assistance came strong from Kunesdorf as a whole and eventually from the Elector's supporters in Europa, a major power and backer of the Elector.
A army of 96,000 Brunswick Soldiers recruited in Kunesdorf province and backed by an eventual 480,000 men from the continent of Europa invaded Rechburg from inside Kunesdorf. The now self appointed Elector Brunswick seeing his opportunity for peaceful takeover of Rechburg had failed he used the foriegn army and his own Electorial army to achieve what subtefuge and bullying failed to do..

This involvement of foreigners in a Rechburg dispute galvanised many wavering supporters to move in behind the Order of the Knights and the Ducal Government of Rechburg.
David Davout one of the leading Knights was appointed commander in Chief of the Ducal Army during the civil war, a war that was to rage in Rechburg and its seas for almost 20 years.

The Changes brought in as a consequence of the Civil War were significant. Once the Civil war was brought to a successful conclusion Rechburg society was once again restructured, however this time it developed into a series of checks and balances that ensured no one power group could ever again become all to powerful.
The rulers of Rechburg were simply known by their Christian names, just as the current ruler is simply known as Duke Leopold.
The stability of the Nation was backed by the Knights and encouraged by Mercantile classes, all of the ruling power groups within Rechburg realised for the stability to remain, the inequality of the poor had to be addressed.
With the bringing of peace to the Duchy, life was much easier, once again the artisans and the merchants returned, however by now much of the resources, the large estates, the mines and the large tracts of Forests were now owned by members of the order of the Knights, for a while it seemed that an impasse between the Knights and the mercantile class would bring a resumption of war, however through the treaty of Ghent a new system was developed. It was based around not on memebership of the Knights or the Guilds, but rather around citizenship.

Citizenship became a privilege not a right, to be a legal citizen one had to serve in the Military from the age of 17 to 25 years. To become a Knight of Rechburg one could then go on to enter the military Officer academy or join a Merchant Guild and enter business. To do neither meant being a non-citizen, which meant you were excluded from all rights and privileges that a society could offer. Non citizens were not allowed free health care, free education nor could they enter into a Guild or join the officer academy.

Society within Rechburg became regulated but stronger, there were not many people who did not embrace the concept of citizenship, thus the nation became stronger in the level military and entrepreneurial understanding.
The marriage between military and business was hugely successful for the Duchy, it gave citizens the guidance and support to further themselves, it also meant that the military had a large pool of trained reservists.

The profession of soldier became the vocation of the young, especially since the only way one could become a citizen of Rechburg was initially through the military. Military schools and institutions developed.
The best armourers were sought from other nations, a new industry of armaments developed alongside the other industries.

Society within the Royal Duchy of Rechburg became strangely structured and yet it is not without the envy of many other societies.

The Government was split equally between The Upper house and the Lower house, the Upper house was again divided equally between highranking Military and High ranking guild memebers, while the lower house was again split evenly between ordinary Military officials and ordinary Guild members.
The casting vote in both houses was held by the Duke, who also headed the National Security Council (NSC) and the National Economic Council (NEC).
The title of Duke was heriditery and maintained through the Males of the Ney familly line.

1800AD to the Present Day

Following the concept of citizenship based on military service and guild membership, The Nation had developed into a strange mix of constitutional Monarchy, Ancient Orders, all with strong capitalistic economy with a very definite socialist attitude to the development of the people. It was a highly militerised society with a strong economic influence. Loyalty and honouring the state were principles preached and taught in Rechburg schools and communities.
Pledging the oath to the Duke became a constitutional principle practiced by all Rechburgians in games, theatres and most public gatherings.

Dissent to the state or to the Ducal household was rooted out efficiently and effectively. Main holidays were based around historical personalities that had offered service and sacrifice in the name of the Duchy. Heroes in the military and innovators in the mercantile guilds became the focus on teenage children, they became the idol or mentors of many of the young Rechburgian children.

Rechburg RP Episodes.

Aios
The Aios operation started out as sending humanitarian aid to Aios which was under threat of revolution. Initially Rechburg set up 3 refugee camps and hospitals, also as part of the humanitarian aid many sick, old and very young were also sent many back to Rechburg for shelter and hospitilisation.
The revolution escalated, particularly when the Battlehawk Nation became involved.

The Elements of the Aios army joined the revolution forcing King Eltrich to officially ask for military help from Rechburg and Battlehawk.
The civil war only lasted a matter of weeks, the losses were light, battlehawk had 1 warship torpedoed and Rechburg lost a AA gun battery and suffered 266 Killed & wounded.
The revolt was defeated and King Eltrich remained on his throne, at the conclusion of hostilities the Rechburg forces withdrew from Aiois.
After the rechburg forces withdrew, Aios once again erupted into full war when the Battlehawk force once allied to the King declared war on the king and allied with the rebels.

Red Dawn
The ReD Dawn episode was a combination of events that were started when the Rechburg Governor Baron von Brunswick conspired to take his province out of the Rechburg Duchy and into a independent republic.
It involved trying to start a war with neighbouring Rammsteinburg by stealing their new and secret submarine "Red Dawn" and using it to attack the Rammsteinburg Navy. This was done in conjunction with a missile attack from a Rechburg Anti ship missile Battery, in which the Rammsteinburg Navy suffered heavy losses.

The Barons plans very nearly came to fruition, as Rechburg and Rammsteinburg mobilised and prepared for war, however in a catastrophic war was avoided.

Below is the list of the Rechburg Expeditionary Force. The tanks and heavy equipment are prespositioned for immediate loading and departure. The supplies and secondary equipment are loaded on containers and are rotated and kept fresh.
It would take 2 days to get full expeditionary Force mobile and its way.

Duke Leo Class (CVF), Royal Rechburg Navy Aircraft Carrier.

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k411/Game-Images/CVF_23aircraftcarrier.jpg

The carrier supports joint combat aircraft carrying out up to 420 sorties over five days and is able to conduct day and night time operations. The maximum sortie rate is 110 Joint Combat Aircraft sorties in a 24-hour period.
The standard airgroup of 40 aircraft includes the Lockheed Martin F-35B joint strike fighter, the EH-101 Merlin helicopter and the Maritime Surveillance and Control aircraft (MASC).
The maximum launch rate is 24 aircraft in 15 minutes and the maximum recovery rate is 24 aircraft in 24 minutes.
The MASC assessment phase for an airborne early warning aircraft to succeed the Sea King ASaC mk7 helicopter was launched in September 2005. In May 2006, three study contracts were awarded for MASC platform and mission systems options.
Rechburg Avionics in conjunction with other allied contractors were successful in the tender.
In July 2006, two further study contracts for the enhanced manned rotary-wing solution were awarded to Rechburg Avionics.
The hanger deck, 155m x 33.5m x 6.7m to 10m high, accommodates up to 20 fixed and rotary wing aircraft.
Islands
Instead of a traditional single island, a current ship design has two smaller islands. The forward island is for ship control functions and the aft (FLYCO) island is for flying control.
Advantages of the two island configuration are increased flight deck area, reduced air turbulence over the flight deck and increased flexibility of space allocation in the lower decks. The flight control centre in the aft island is in the optimum position for control of the critical aircraft approach and deck landings.
The radar fit includes a Foy Systems Insystem Sampson multi-function radar on the forward island and an Insystem
S1850M air surveillance radar on the aft FLYCO island.
"Two large
70t-load deck-edge aircraft lifts transfer aircraft between the hangar and flight decks."
The S1850M air surveillance radar, operating at 1GHz to 2GHz, is an electronically stabilised multibeam radar, operating up to an elevation of 0° to 70° and providing automatic target detection and tracking to a range of 400km.
The Foy multifunction radar includes two phased array antennae planes which are rotated and which scan electronically in azimuth and in elevation to provide 360° coverage. The four-sided pyramidal masthead with a spherical low-loss glass fibre reinforced plastic radome gives the Foy radar its distinctive appearance.
Aircraft carrier deck
The deck supports simultaneous launch and recovery operations. The deck is fitted with a 13° bow deck ski jump. Catapult and arresters are fitted as well as the bow deck jump. The carrier is fitted with a steam catapult or electromagnetic launch system and arrester gear. The deck has three runways: two shorter runways of approximately 160m for the STOVL joint strike fighter and a long runway, approximately 260m over the full length of the carrier, for launching heavily loaded aircraft – an area of nearly 13,000m². The deck has two vertical landing pads for the F-35 aircraft towards the stern of the ship.
Jet blast deflectors are fitted on each runway 160m back from the bow ski jump and probably in line with the rear wall of the first island. The deflectors protect the deck from the blast of the F-35 joint strike fighter aircraft engines operating at maximum thrust for take-off.
There are two large 70t-load deck-edge aircraft lifts, built by Rechburg heavy industries, to transfer aircraft between the hangar and flight decks, one between the islands and one to the aft of the FLYCO island.

An Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) is to be developed by General Atomics in Rechburg.
"The Royal Ducal Navy's CVF aircraft carriers displace 60,000t."

Systems
The close in weapons system is the two 16-cell vertical launchers for the Aster missiles. Caladonia Communications was awarded the production contract for the vessels' Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) systems in October 2007.
The Duke Leo Class is fitted with the Richburg’s Navy's new-generation maritime Medium Range Radar (MRR) to replace the type 996 surveillance and target indication radar.

Among the arsenal of the most advanced military superpowers, one weapon is the most feared. It's not the atomic bomb, it's even more powerful, while being almost undetectable and can launch a devastating surprise attack on almost any country in the world.

Operating underwater at pressures beyond the range of unaided human survivability, submarines, first widely used in World War I, are used by all major navies today. They are quiet and effective, being able to operate close to the shore without anyone knowing it's there.

The supreme silent hunter in the world is the Rechburg “Duke” series submarine. It's not a nuclear submarine, it's a hunter one, designed to attack and sink surface vessels and other submarines. The newly built “Duke Leo” is the 2nd of the Duke class built by Rechburg

Launched in 2003, the “Duke” is powered by one diesel engine and an electric motor driven by two fuel cells and features a cavitation-free screw, making it harder to detect. The Duke series was the first non-nuclear submarine to stay submerged for two weeks.

The fact that it uses fuel cells, with no moving parts, greatly reduces the noise output, making it virtually undetectable, compared to other diesel subs. The outer surface is covered in a special, non-reflective paint, that absorbs ultrasounds coming from the sonars of other submarines, making it as efficient as the F117-A stealth bomber, covered in roughly the same paint.

The Duke series-boat has a displacement of 1360 tons, is 53.5 meters long and 11.5 meters high, with a diameter between 5.5 and 6.8 meters, and it's operated by a crew of 24. The fuel cells that power the electric motor are placed on the outside of the hull and are designed to explode on the outside in case of a disaster, thus minimizing the risks for the crew.

When it comes to weapons, this submarine is armed to the teeth, being equipped with 12 torpedo tubes, a towed-array sonar and a flank-array sonar, accompanied by an internal passive ranging sonar and two periscopes.

But the most feared weapon is not a torpedo. Being able to operate in shallow waters, near the shore, with a minimum depth of 18 meters, far beyond the capabilities of a nuclear submarine, the Duke series can launch the Navy SEAL, special forces units that can go undetected and sink docked ships, neutralize the crew or rescue secret agents when all other means failed, and all this before the enemies ever knowing what hit them.

Aim - 120 AMRAAM air to air missile.
AMRAAM has an all-weather, beyond-visual-range (BVR) capability. It improves the aerial combat capabilities of U.S. and allied aircraft to meet the future threat of enemy air-to-air weapons. AMRAAM serves as a follow-on to the AIM-7 Sparrow missile series. The new missile is faster, smaller, and lighter, and has improved capabilities against low-altitude targets. It also incorporates a datalink to guide the missile to a point where its active radar turns on and makes terminal intercept of the target. An inertial reference unit and micro-computer system makes the missile less dependent upon the fire-control system of the aircraft.
Once the missile closes in on the target, its active radar guides it to intercept. This feature, mistakenly called "fire and forget," frees the aircrew from the need to further provide guidance, enabling the aircrew to aim and fire several missiles simultaneously at multiple targets and perform evasive maneuvers while the missiles guide themselves to the targets.
The missile also features the ability to "Home on Jamming," [2] giving it the ability to switch over from active radar homing to passive homing - homing on jamming signals from the target aircraft. Software on board the missile allows it to detect if it is being jammed, and guide on its target using the proper guidance system. This, contrary to the attack sequence on a non-jamming target, truly can be described as "fire and forget", as it does not require any guidance provided to the missile after launch.

Guidance system overview

Interception course stage
AMRAAM uses two-stage guidance when fired at long range. The aircraft passes data to the missile just before launch, giving it information about the location of the target aircraft from the launch point and its direction and speed. The missile uses this information to fly on an interception course to the target using its built in inertial navigation system (INS). This information is generally obtained using the launching aircraft's radar, although it could come from an infra-red search and tracking system (IRST), from a data link from another fighter aircraft, or from an AWACS aircraft.
If the firing aircraft or surrogate continues to track the target, periodic updates are sent to the missile telling it of any changes in the target's direction and speed, allowing it to adjust its course so that it is able to close to self-homing distance while keeping the target aircraft in the basket (the radar seeker's field of view) in which it will be able to find it.
Not all AMRAAM users have elected to purchase the mid-course update option, which limits AMRAAM's effectiveness in some scenarios. The RAF initially opted not to use mid-course update for its Tornado F3 force, only to discover that without it, testing proved the AMRAAM was less effective in BVR engagements than the older semi-active radar homing BAE Skyflash weapon—the AIM-120's own radar is necessarily of limited range and power compared to that of the launch aircraft.

Terminal stage and impact
Once the missile closes to self-homing distance, it turns on its active radar seeker and searches for the target aircraft. If the target is in or near the expected location, the missile will find it and guide itself to the target from this point. If the missile is fired at short range (typically, visual range), it can use its active seeker just after launch, making the missile truly fire-and-forget. At the point where an AMRAAM switches to autonomous self-guidance, the NATO brevity code "PITBULL" would be called out on the radio, just as "Fox Three" would be called out upon launch.

Kill probability and tactics

General considerations
Once in its terminal mode, the missile's advanced electronic counter countermeasures (ECCM) support and good maneuverability mean that the chance of it hitting or exploding close to the target is high (on the order of 90%), as long as it has enough remaining energy to maneuver with the target if it is evasive. The kill probability (Pk) is determined by several factors, including aspect (head-on interception, side-on or tail-chase), altitude, the speed of the missile and the target, and how hard the target can turn. Typically, if the missile has sufficient energy during the terminal phase, which comes from being launched close enough to the target from an aircraft flying high and fast enough, it will have an excellent chance of success. This chance drops as the missile is fired at longer ranges as it runs out of overtake speed at long ranges, and if the target can force the missile to turn it might bleed off enough speed that it can no longer chase the target.

Lower-capability targets
This leads to two main engagement scenarios. If the target is not armed with any medium or long-range fire-and-forget weapons, the attacking aircraft need only to get close enough to the target and launch the AMRAAM. In these scenarios, the AMRAAM has a high chance of hitting, especially against low-maneuverability targets. The launch distance depends upon whether the target is heading towards or away from the firing aircraft. In a head-on engagement, the missile can be launched at longer range, since the range will be closing fast. In this situation, even if the target turns around, it is unlikely it can speed up and fly away fast enough to avoid being overtaken and hit by the missile (as long as the missile is not released too early). It is also unlikely the enemy can outmaneuver the missile since the closure rate will be so great. In a tail-on engagement, the firing aircraft might have to close to between one-half and one-quarter maximum range (or maybe even closer for a very fast target) in order to give the missile sufficient energy to overtake the targets.
If the targets are armed with missiles, the fire-and-forget nature of the AMRAAM is invaluable, enabling the launching aircraft to fire missiles at the target and subsequently take defensive actions. Even if the targets have longer-range semi-active radar homing (SARH) missiles, they will have to chase the launching aircraft in order for the missiles to track them, effectively flying right into the AMRAAM. If the target aircraft fires missiles and then turn and runs away, their own missiles will not be able to hit. Of course, if the target aircraft have long range missiles, even if they are not fire-and-forget, the fact that they force the launching aircraft to turn and run reduces the kill probability, since it is possible that without the mid-course updates the missiles will not find the target aircraft. However the chance of success is still good and compared to the relative impunity the launching aircraft enjoy, this gives the AMRAAM-equipped aircraft a decisive edge. If one or more missiles fail to hit, the AMRAAM-equipped aircraft can turn and re-engage, although they will be at a disadvantage compared to the chasing aircraft due to the speed they lose in the turn, and would have to be careful that they're not being tracked with SARH missiles.

Background to LY4 Wolfhound

Despite the tremendous export success of the LY3A1/2 Warhound series, the project had had its detractors from the start. While highly capable, and delivering all that it had claimed it would, the LY3 had a number of important issues, primarily, but not limited to, logistics. The LY3 was extremely heavy, very long, wide, and phenomenally logistics intensive to maintain in the field, due to its very high power, highly fuel-inefficient engine. These factors would limit its export capability, in a period when the Protectorate is increasingly keen to capitalise on a highly lucrative source of revenue.

Further, even while the first production run of the LY3 was rolling off, Protectorate Research and Development was examining methods of dropping weight, increasing deployability, and, most importantly, bringing the Protectorate's MBTs into functional integration and network commonality with the increasingly coherent and information-focused Lyran Defence Force.

Although the LY3 Warhound series was seen as more than sufficient to counter any feasible anti-Lyran conflicts, a work was to develop and field a more advanced main battle tank with heavy emphasis on networking and international integration, a Lyran first, and brought about in large part due to export concerns. While the Warhound series has, to date, yielded in excess of NS$300bn in foreign currency earnings, foreign competition has still seen the lion's share of international arms trade. Coalition-focussed, co-operative, innovative and forward thinking designing of the new LY4 Wolfhound has allowed the Lyran Defence Force to export the newly developed tank into a highly competitive and discerning world market. Lyras has traditionally focused on entirely domestic production of locally developed, tested and manufactured weapons systems, and thus the country has, until recently, been unwilling to participate in the international military market in large scale. The Warhound tested the waters. The Wolfhound will change the face of the international market for leading edge MBTs.

The Protectorate Research and Development Commission was charged with the task of developing a new main battle tank with state-of-the-art technologies, deriving those technologies from anywhere, and, importantly, not restricting themselves to Lyran designs. Having little experience in designing an entire main battle tank, several Lyran allies were nonetheless able to contribute niche expertise to advance the final project. The People's Freedom, Holy Empire of Verenberg and even North Calaveras assisting in elements of the Wolfhound's development or equipment. Over the course of several years and costing approximately NS$290m, the design was finally confirmed as production-ready. Somewhere in the area of 25% of the vehicle's design is non-Lyran, a new benchmark in allied co-operation. The vehicle is manufactured by Lyran Arms, at the Bredubar, Eastcudgel and Castlegate Manufacturing Zones.

The LY4 is, in many ways, a revolutionary, rather than evolutionary vehicle; in many ways it is truly ground breaking. It pioneers Lyran use of high energy military-grade ETC technology, and, even more importantly, it finally establishes the oft-maligned Cromwell system as the global benchmark for force interconnectivity and information warfare supremacy.

The LY4 is intended to be a true combined arms platform, integrated into a modern, sophisticated defence force that is willing and able to deploy the most advanced technological systems. The Wolfhound was built to be able to slide seamlessly into such a force, and provide long ranged, high endurance, high survivability, rapid reacting, self-directing and highly lethal elements to such an organisation.

Background to LY4A1 upgrade
Over a number of years, the LY4 Wolfhound has become one of the most widely exported and extensively utilised armoured fighting vehicles in history, with over a million in service in more than thirty countries. Several new developments in main gun technology, however, began to pose a threat to the existing armour schemes of most MBTs on the international market, and the Executive Command Staff, provided with forewarning of the deployment of burst-firing AT guns by successful operations of Lyran Intelligence, pushed hard for a pre-emptive upgrade program.

The main components of the A1 upgrade were the shift from Helios I to Helios II, the dramatically increased modular nature of the secondary weapons systems, and the upgrade from the WATCHKEEPER to GOLIATH APS system.

The LY4A1 has been specifically upgraded to provide significantly improved survivability against high-lethality anti-armour systems, thus allowing the more flexible weapons options to be utilised as required, within the high-tempo, high-threat battlespace.

Main Armament
The LY4A1's main gun, unchanged from the LY4, is an LY402 120mm, 55 calibre (6.6m) electrothermal chemically fired smoothbore, and is autofrettaged and stress-hardened to increase durability over extended periods of firing.
For some time, MBTs the world over have been increasing in speed, armour protection and lethality, and it was becoming more and more evident that the conventionally propelled MBT main gun was reaching its zenith. Main gun bore diameter and projectile sizes can only get so large before the size of the projectile limits the amount of ammunition carried, making vehicle combat ineffective. While the LY3 series sidestepped the issue, in part, by the simple recourse of making the entirety of the platform notably larger, that was always seen as a somewhat stopgap solution to the issue of technological advancement. So while the simple answer may have been to go with a bigger gun, because it had the very real advantage of being available immediately, it was generally accepted within the Protectorate that alternate means of delivering increased muzzle energy had to be considered.

Prolonged testing, carried out in parallel to the development of the LY3 series lead to several divergent paths, all of which the Protectorate is involved in examining.

Railguns were considered, but it was quickly established that current technology prevented their implementation on a platform of MBT size. Specifically, the power required was substantially greater than could be delivered by a tank-portable power cell. While the technology was determined to be well worth further investigation, the system was determined to not be sufficiently developed to warrant active attempts at implementation in the short term.

Related coilgun technology was also considered, and demonstrated similar issues to the railgun, complicated by extensive wear on numerous components in addition to the barrel itself.

Even evaluations of acquired former Upper Virginian examples of the Varessan-designed 'Crimson Star' magnetic catapult system were inconclusive, although primarily due to the absence of the finer aspects of what remains a very closely guarded piece of Commonwealth technology.

As a result, the electrothermal chemical system was adopted, almost more as an affirmation of the limits of current understanding than anything else.

Nevertheless, trials of several ETC-based weapons systems were conducted at the Lughenti Testing Range, with differing but generally positive results.

Logistics eventually dictated the selection, with the 120mm projectile selected, due to high parts commonality with already existing 120mm rounds.

Extensive testing of multiple means of propellant ignition lead to the selection of an adaptive plasma-based flashboard large area emitter (FLARE) coupled with the development and production of liquid propellant, designed to, in concert, increase muzzle energy into the area of 21 MJ, a similar energy to a mid-level 140mm gun. While still not as powerful as the 65 calibre 155mm LY366 fitted to the LY3 series, the notably lighter weight of the LY402 (lighter in the order of several tonnes) allowed for a substantially lighter tank, despite upgrades to armour and a far more extensive integrated electronics suite, despite upgrades to armour and a far more extensive integrated electronics suite, without sacrificing lethality.
In order to handle the dramatically increased recoil force brought about by the adoption of ETC technology, a muzzle brake was fitted, in addition to the installation of a new 600mm recoil mechanism.
The turret of the Wolfhound was designed around the autoloader in order to avoid the problems common to other tanks fielding autoloaders. The Wolfhound autoloader allows a rate of fire of 15 shots per minute and holds 30 rounds of ready ammunition; it can accommodate up to six different types of ammunition at once, and unlike most autoloader systems it can change ammunition types after a round has been loaded into the breech. A further 15 rounds are stored in the hull, and while slower to use, are available for combat without interrupting ongoing operations. The most common types of round carried are the armour piercing fin-stabilised discarding sabot (APFSDS) with a depleted uranium core and the high explosive anti-tank (HEAT) round, although Lyran-modified M1028 120mm canister rounds using liquid propellant are also available in large quantities.

Additional armament
As with the LY4, the LY4A1 utilises a medium autocannon as a co-axial weapon for use against light vehicles, the excellent and battle-tested KWF PAK2 25mm automatic cannon being again chosen. The PAK2 can destroy lightly armoured vehicles and aerial targets (such as helicopters and slow-flying aircraft). It can also suppress enemy positions such as exposed troops, dug-in positions, and occupied built-up areas.
This chain-driven weapon system uses sprockets and extractor grooves to actively feed, load, fire, extract, and eject rounds. A system of clutches provides for the use of alternates thus allowing the gunner to switch between armour piercing, high explosive and high explosive incendiary rounds, as well as manually selecting the rate of fire.
It has a rating of 31,000 mean rounds between stoppage (MRBS), which is much higher than many comparable devices.

The standard LY64 7.62mm machine gun, essentially analogous to an FN MAG, can also be fitted atop a command-operated remote weapon station, for conventional anti-personnel, general defence roles.

Also available, though rarely fielded, is the LY60 HMG. The LY60 heavy machine gun was one of the first weapons designed and produced by Lyras, appearing in both watercooled and aircooled versions. Combat experience demonstrated that the aircooled version was highly suitable for many applications, following a modest increase in the mass of the barrel, and it is in the aircooled version that the LY60 serves today. In AA roles, the LY60 is used on several Lyran AA platforms, and serves as the primary co-axial weapon of the LY2 Mastiff series. The weapon is a belt fed, short recoil operated, open bolt, fully automatic weapon. Metallic disinitegrating link belts can feed it from either the left or right of the reciever. The quick change barrel is removable with the barrel jacket as a unit. The bore is chromium plated to increase barrel life and durability. The weapon fires the the LY112 14.7 x 115mm cartridge. The LY60 has a maximum effective range of 1400m against air targets, and 2200m against ground targets. The standard firing controls consist of a push-type thumb trigger and sear release buttons located between the dual spade grips. Alternatively, an electric trigger can be installed for mounted vehicle applications. The gun is simple in design and rugged in construction, and considered one of the most reliable heavy machine guns in service anywhere in the world.
The LY60 entered mass production as an infantry support weapon, with a tripod mount designed at the Lughenti Test Range. Within three years, the heavy Lughenti Type-I mount was replaced by a lighter design, and it is the Type-II that continues to see service within Lyran infantry formations. Guns produced prior to the arrival of the Type II mount have been retrospectively upgraded.
The infantry version of the LY60, however, had a relatively short primacy within Lyras, being replaced in numerical majority by the version fielded as primary armament for several LY219 variants. It also finds use in several anti-aircraft roles, alongside the KWF PAK2 25mm cannon.
Very similar to the Soviet-designed KPV, the LY60 provides almost double the muzzle energy of a conventional 12.7mm (ie, .50 caliber) weapon. With muzzle velocities between 960 - 1030 meters per second and bullet weights near 60grams, the LY60 generates muzzle energy of about 32 kilojoules, and, again similarly to the KPV, penetrated over 30mm of steel armor at 500 meters range and approximately 20mm at 1000 meters.
When vehicle mounted, LY60s feature still-heavier barrels and longer belts.

The Wolfhound mounts two lateral grenade launchers. Each launcher is electronically-fired, and consists of four barrels which can be intermixed with either smoke, fragmentation or chaff grenades. The smoke grenades are capable of shrouding the tank from visual or thermal detection, and the chaff grenades are utilised as a means of breaking up the tank's radar cross-section.

Helios II Anti-Tank Guided Missile
The LY4A1, as with its LY4 predecessor, utilises side of turret mounted, box-launched ATGMs, and again like the LY4 utilises the Helios series, in this case the Helios II. Helios II was developed following a decision by High Command of TPF to design and implement a new gun-launched anti-tank guided missile. The decision was based on the fact that the original ATGM designed for next-generation Prussian main battle tanks and armoured fighting vehicles had been a dismal failure and something of an embarrassment to the otherwise highly effective and professional TPF military. According to High Command and the Army Office of Weapons Systems, the new missile should have the capability to destroy any MBT on the market today, with the minimum of trouble. In addition, High Command ordered that the missiles have Beyond Visual Range capability, to take advantage of the Army's and Marine's new high-tech information orientated battlespace. In short, the intent was to field a system able to destroy hostile MBTs while they remained outside of visual and gun range. A number of corporations and teams began work, and in June of that year, Vickers Tank Factory won the contract.

The Helios was designed to be a high-speed, top attack, ATGM. Vickers incorporated a number of unique (or at least rare) design features to achieve this end. Helios utilises a tri-seeking warhead, which allows it to select one of a number of means to acquire and destroy designated targets. The primary seeker, which is most commonly used, is the missile's radar. Using millimetric radar, the Helios II is able to acquire, identify and track and engage enemy AFV's. The secondary seeker-head is a laser beam-rider. This was primarily designed to allow UAV's and special forces (and also regular infantry if equipped with laser designators), to target enemy AFV's and employ the anti-armour capabilities of an MBT from BVR. The third and final seeker is a fiber-optic guided seeker. This is perhaps the most jam-proof and secure way of guidance, but it is limited in range. In order to defeat and confuse active protection systems, which generally utilise radar for targeting, two independent counter-measures were integrated into the Helios II. The first was an active radar-jamming device, designed mainly to jam the NS-standard millimeter wave length APS radar, thus allowing successful bypass of most APS systems. The second counter-measure is a conventional (albeit compact) chaff dispenser. This also allows for it to confuse the APS radar by presenting a number of false positive contacts. Helios itself is designed to be gun-launched, propelled by the tanks main cannon, but can be box-launched when booster-assisted. Upon clearing the firing platform and reaching required velocity, the missile's ramjet fires, propelling the missile to mach 3.5. Helios then goes into top-attack mode, whereupon it identifies the target, adjusts and then dives at the target at engagement velocity.
Helios II's warhead is a tandem-charge HEAT system, with the first (EFP) charge designed to initiate any ERA while the second, a shallow cone shaped charge, provides the majority of the penetration/damage. The tandem charge also allows it to penetrate any roof-mounted reactive armor, which is increasingly common on many vehicles.

Seeker: Tri-Seeker, Radar, Laser, Fiber-Optic
Warhead: One Explosively Formed Penetrator, One Shallow Cone Shaped Charge
Propellant: Gun- or box-launched, ramjet assisted.
Range: 14km
Penetration: ~1,000 IRHA equivalent

Active Protection System
The LY4A1 Wolfhound uses a new active protective system developed from the world-benchmark WATCHKEEPER. The new system has been named GOLIATH, and, like its ancestor, has been developed in partnership with Krupp Steel of The People's Freedom.
The WATCHKEEPER APS has become one of the most well-known and effective active protection systems available today, owing much of its success to the tremendous export success of the LY4 Wolfhound MBT, LY219 Ironheart series of combat vehicles, and LY6 Werewolf Assault Gun, the former two in particular being some of the most widely exported armored fighting vehicles in the world. Originally an interim solution by TPF to Lyran requirements for an APS suite, TPF designers, despite the system's success, often thought of it has an interim measure.

Responsible for a great number of saved vehicles, especially amongst the LY219s fighting on the Cancun peninsula during the Mokan Civil War WATCHKEEPER nevertheless proved to have some trouble targeting and destroying multiple threats that originated from greater than 30 degrees elevation. Thus, designers began work on the GOLIATH, which was to be a multi-tiered system that could combat multiple threat natures effectively, quickly, reliably and flexibly.

The Lurker Missile System
Each Infantry/Mechanised Regiment has a Lurker Battery attached - 1 battery = 9 launchers.

The Lurker Missile

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k411/Game-Images/Lurker.jpg

A revolutionary missile that can stalk a target until the perfect moment to strike is being developed by the Ministry of Defence for use against terrorist or regular military units
The so-called lurker bomb will also be able to shadow Rechburg troops for up to ten hours or 100 miles, ready to take out enemy targets with surgical precision at a minute’s notice.
The 12ft weapon – officially named Lurker and made in Rechburg by Davout armaments Corporation

It made its first test flight in Normandie last year and is expected to be operational by 2007
One of the biggest problems facing Rechburg troops in terrorist or irregular enemy enviroments are the constant ambushes. The insurgents often escape before a counter-attack can be launched because they know the terrain well, it takes time for air support to arrive, and the Rechburg Army are reluctant to use existing powerful missiles for fear of causing collateral damage such as killing civilians or flattening homes.
Lurker's ability to ‘stooge’ above the troops means it can be guided to a target within seconds. And its deadly precision requires only a small warhead of 50lb, compared with the Rechburgs smallest bomb of 500lb.
The Army wants to be able to fire salvos of Lurkers, having several in the air at once to hit multiple targets. The missiles, also known as ‘loitering munitions’, are expected to replace some regular Rechburg airsupport roles.
Lurker can be guided to its target by troops on the ground with lasers, by operators in aircraft or helicopters, or by the Army’s new Watchkeeper surveillance drone.

Once airborne, however, Lurker is unable to return to base. If it is not used in action, it is brought down in a controlled crash after it runs out of fuel.
Karen Davout, head of loitering munitions at Davout Armaments in Christipole, Normandie, said: ‘I can see these being used where small, surgically precise effects will have greater utility than an artillery shell or a bomb.’
Davout armaments leads the Lurker development team, which cost the MoD £74million in its first year. It includes Rechburg firms Qinetiq, Thales and Roxcel, and several smaller and academic organisations.
The concept of a lurker bomb is the cornerstone of the MoD’s Indirect-Fire Precision Attack project. Lurker is one of six projects that include an artillery shell that can electronically ‘sense’ its target, a new anti-aircraft missile for the Rechburg Royal Navy, and advanced guidance for the new Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS).
The first GMLRS batteries have already been in action in Aios where Rechburg troops were operating. Nicknamed the 70km sniper – the rocket’s maximum range – about 250 precision-guided rockets have been fired so far this year, according to an MoD spokesman. At £60,000 a rocket that works out at £15million, a cost that the MoD is well aware of as it seeks to develop Fire Shadow.
‘We need to get Fire Shadow’s price to around that, which is a big challenge,’ said an industry source.
