Name: The Kingdom of Silverfall
Race Human
Government: The government of Silverfall is as relatively smooth and efficient one. The Kingdom is divided up into provinces, each with its own amount of cities and towns. Each town has its own council that maintains the daily business of the town and keeps the laws intact. Areas of towns are controlled by one city, which is ruled by a Mayor and his council. They ensure their area is kept safe and maintaining the status quo, while also maintaining their city. Each province is under the jurisdiction of a King's Champion, a knight whom has earned the king's favor through many deeds and been given land and control. They control all the towns and cities in their province. Each of the King's Champions come together to form the Advisory Council for the King. They handle most, if not all the disputes that come to the royal court at Kaluen. This leaves only the dire and pressing concerns for the King to deal with, as he handles all the other affairs of state.
The King's Champions also serve as the Generals of the Kingdom, having gotten their rank by commanding armies in peace or war time, and doing great deeds over the course of their life.
Population: 2.7 million
Land of Silverfall
Silverfall is made up of small mountains and large valleys, which are fertile for farming due to runoff from the mountains. Much of the Kingdom is flat land, with the Eastern portion becoming flat plains on its way to the Black Steppes, so the development of fortress cities is not something surprising for the Kingdom. The land is covered with large farms, which give them the great food reserves in the Kingdom and one of their exports, great mining areas in the valleys and mountains, and roads which crisscross the kingdom and give it a great tool for trade. It is a rather cool area, being close to the sea and kept in by mountains. It's winters are colder than the rest of Anfalas, although they do not last long in the temperate climate.
Economy of Silverfall
The economy of the Kingdom is very much feudalized. There are vast amounts of serfs whom till the land, work the mines and construct the many structures which are seen in Silverfall today. An extensive trade agreement with the Empire of ( ) has given them a good source of trade and they are still looking to expand trade, while keeping an eye out for raiders and pirates in the Black Sea, especially the Orcs. A network of roads and towns also gives Silverfall a strong internal economy that has sustained it to this day. The main exports are food, fish, and metals. They are gaining a growing market for cannons, with which they arm their small navy with. It is not as massive nor strong as other nations but it can support themselves and their allies and thats what counts.
Armies of Silverfall
King's Champion Armies:
The Army of the Mage -King: 30,000 infantry, 6,000 cavalry, 12,000 archers, and up to fifteen mages of the Order, including an Archmage. Defends the heartland of Silverfall, including Hethain and Kaluen, and serves as the last line of defense.
Althain: 14,000 infantry, 2,000 cavalry, 7000 archers, and up to six mages. Defends the Northern regions of Eastern Silverfall.
Khaldath: 12,500 infantry, 1800 cavalry, 7000 archers and up to three mages. Defends the Southern Regions of Eastern Silverfall.
Larkan: 7000 infantry, 700 cavalry, 3000 archers, and a single mage. Defends the entire area of Western Silverfall.
Royal Navy: Fifty-five War Galleys Patrols the Dead Sea and protects trade routes.
Royal Guard: 8,000 strong, elite warriors of Silverfall whom guard the royal family and the palace. Trained in magic and martial art, they are the most feared warriors in the Kingdom. Stays at Kaluen and with the royal family at all times, unless ordered by the King otherwise.
The military might of Silverfall is heavily based on land armies, specifically their infantry and archers, and their expertise with siege weaponry. Their infantry are some of the most elite warriors the Kingdom can offer, with strong armor and weapons, and the iron discipline of the King's Champions instilled in them, they are a fighting force to be reckoned with. Their swordsman are fearless and their spearman are well-versed in the art of war with spear and sword. The archers of Silverfall are an unique bunch; they have their own holiday where, every month, they spend two days attending a festival practicing their archery. This gives them plenty of practice and makes them a deadly addition on the battlefield. Their long bows give them incredible range and stopping power, allowing them to maul enemy armies with wave upon wave of arrows.
The cavalry of the Kingdom is small but elite, being essentially heavy cavalry, used to break the enemy at their weak points or to overpower enemy cavalry with martial might and skill. Silverfall's military might is supplemented by the Order, mages of great power whom are to counter the magics of any other foes they encounter and to strike fear into the enemy with their arcane abilities. The siege weapons of the Silverfall army is legendary. Great battering rams, capped with steel to break down walls or gates, catapults that launch a barrage of smaller rocks to take out infantry or large rocks to be hurled at walls or cities. And even the mighty trebuchet, an engine of doom for many cities, can hurl great rocks with such force and accuracy, it has been the breaking factor of many a siege.
Finally, the Royal Navy is the other weak point of Silverfall, along with the cavalry. They have only two kinds of ships, War Galleys and trading ships. The War Galleys are sturdy vessels, with thick hulls and a moderate array of cannon. This enables them to protect their shipping lanes and hunt down the marauders and raiders whom are a constant danger in the Black Sea. Silverfall cooperates with the Empire of ( ) in patrolling the Black Sea.
Religion
The people of Silverfall have a belief in only one God, believing him to be all-powerful and all knowing. They share this belief and the same church as the Empire of ( ). Their deity is called by many names, but the one he is known by in Silverfall is Anu. He is a deity of light, justice, decency, good and all that the Silverfall people adhere to. What is not known is that they actually pray to Aluvatar, that his name was misspelled in translation as Anu and thus he became their god indirectly. There are shrines to him and his patron saints, whom have served him, throughout the Kingdom. There are two main cathedrals, one in Kaluen and one in Heldain. There is an entire week devoted to celebrating Anu's might and glory and the safety he has given to the people of the Kingdom. They are fiercely devoted to the worship of Anu and will not see any attempt at conversion. Any whom convert to other religions or give up their own are instantly outcasts.
Magic of Silverfall
The magic used in Silverfall is somewhat unique to the area of Anfalas. Magic was discovered when areas of great arcane might where discovered. People whom lived in these areas or stayed in them for any great lengths of time where subtly changed and began to be able to sense things they could not before. It was not long before it was discovered they had magic abilities and work began to find out what their powers were and what they could do. This developed in the Order, a group of mages whom seek out those whom display magical power and induct them into the Order. For their safety and the safety of others, they are taught how to control their power and to grow in skill and might.
Magic works by the Will and the Word. The mage summons up the Will required for a spell and then speaks the Word that will unleash. An example would be a mage summoning up the Will and saying the word “Burn!”, lighting something on fire. Other spells which cannot be contained in a single word are given short phrases in an arcane language and are activated with short gestures. The more powerful and complex the spell, the longer the phrase. The Four Archmages of the Order have mastered their abilities to such a degree that most spells they simply summon the Will and gesture, having the spell activate with their willpower alone. They can also cast powerful and dangerous magics which only they can handle, making them the strongest magic-users in the Kingdom. They are all based in Heldain, the magical city where the Order was founded and has become the haven for all magic users.
History of Silverfall
Silverfall began with the many tribes and miniature kingdoms of humans whom dwelt in Anfalas. Through conflict and time, they all coalesced into a series of duchies and warring states. Battles were fought and lost, alliances were made and broken, and land switched constantly. The Kingdom of Silverfall developed early on in the conflict, and began to grow enormously. The factors for this was the elite training their army was given and their skill with siege weaponry during the many sieges to take down fortified castles and cities, as well as their faith in Anu, the one True God. Soon enough, all had fallen before Silverfall and another major, rising faction: the Empire of ( ). Both consolidated their positions, strengthening territories and preparing for the final conflict. One would reign supreme over all of Anfalas.
This was not to be, as both were too evenly-matched. The powerful Silverfall army and their siege weapons were countered by the sheer size and resources of their enemy. Battles fought on both sides came to stalemates and campaigns gained them little acquisitions. Aside from the successful campaign of King Theras that gained them much of the coastal land and some inland territory on the left uppermost area of Anfalas. However, both were soon convinced to stop their war when the Orc tribes close to Anfalas, whom had been rising and gaining dominance in their own area, began a sweeping invasion of Anfalas. Both factions were hit hard by large, rampaging, looting hordes of Orcs whom smashed aside defenses aimed at each other, not at the enemy they had not foreseen. Bloodshed beyond the scope of anything anticipated by the Kingdom or the Empire became the common law of the day and both, in their weakened conditioned from their war, agreed to put aside their grievances and unite. The Patron Saints of their religions, whom are linked in nearly every way, rose during this time. Some say sent by Anu, others say they heard the call and rose to glory. Whatever the truth is, they rose and led both Silverfall and the Empire of ( ) to victory against the Orcs, driving their rampaging hordes out of Anfalas. They were forced to turn back and leave the Orcs to reside on the Black Steppes, as every attempt to destroy or dislodge the Orcs failed.
Both realized the constant threat the Orks would bear and knowing neither could handle them alone, proceeded to form an alliance. All land currently held by each faction was forever theirs and they would aid each other in any way they could. They were the two lords of Anfalas, Silverfall and ( ), and they would have to work together to ensure they did not fall. That was many years ago and both nations are currently prospering to his day. King Elsin of Silverfall, the Mage-King himself, has seen to it that his land is kept safe and the Orks kept out. On the Silverfall border with the Black Steppes, a mighty wall has been constructed, along with a series of manned fortresses, set to guard the border against Orc incursions. With their mighty stonecraft, trained armies and experience with siege warfare, it would take something on an immense level to break through that defense and bring war into the heart land of Silverfall.
