What is Earth 2050: Alternate Universe?
We are like any other earth, an offsite (Non-Jolt) role-play focused around the aspects of NationStates that we all love: Trade, Diplomacy, and War, set in the years 2050 through 2080 (PMT). You can easily peruse through a smaller, close-knit group of roleplayers, rathering than having to scroll through page upon page of post just to find your last topic.

What makes Earth 2050:AG different?
Well as you probably noticed in the title "Alternate Galaxy", so let me explain. After the end of the last round in Earth 2050, it was decided by the members to try something different, that decision was to create a whole new galaxy. In this galaxy, each member takes control of a single solar system, a planet, or shares a planet with other member; each solar system is capable of supporting up to three habitable planets, which you can build and run howver you like. RP as a peaceful trading colony, a rogue pirate nation, or a evil empire bent on forming becoming the first galactic empire.

But I only have a population that is a few million, how can I run a solar system?
Due to the scale of the RP, populations are increased using a basic scale. This also determines how many planets you get and if you get a solar system to control.

What level is the technology?
The technology for this RP is Post-Modern Tech(PMT) and takes place in the years 2050 through 2080. Any technology that would be arround during that time is acceptable as well as any current real technology.

If the RP takes place in a whole galaxy, how are we supposed to interact? Due to the scale of this RP, there are two acceptions made to the PMT technology rule; Faster-than-light (FTL) and Artificial Gravity. Obviously these are far beyond the 2050 and 2080 tech range but it is essential for the RP. Each member starts out with equal FTL technology(Minimal RP: 6 days per light-year), and as the RP progresses they can roleplay advancing their FTL technology to be able to travel faster.

Do I have to role play as humans?
No, you can RP as any species or race that you like; be it from book/illustrated novel/science fiction series/dreams (No race is vastly superior than any other race in all environments).

This looks interesting. Rules are a bit mixed up between what appears to be the last last game, last game, and this game, though. I was the Nordic Alliance, who had to sit around doing nothing for a while.

I'm interested, when do we start?

As the co-founder of Earth2050 and as someone who has been involved with Off-site NS RP'ing for over three years, I can say that Earth2050 has always been a fun RP. The people involved are of a calibre you do not often see and our roleplaying is always enjoyable. Through each restart, the core remains and that makes each and every round exciting.

Now, I was originally against the whole "Alternate Galaxy" idea, but after seeing it and being a part of it, I can say with whole-hearted honesty that if you join E2050, you will never be disappointed.

Can I play as the flood from Halo?

Yes and no, you would be able to play as the flood, but there would be some limitations to prevent you from being too powerful and stuff.

But go ahead and make your claim on our forum and I will discuss it with the other admin.

Been wondering about doing some limited-span FT RPing....
(Hyperspacial Travel + Hurtful Thoughts do not mix on these forums)

Though that nonsense about long-term or passive stealth would have to simmer.

Active camo (dumping coolant or cold plasma on the exterior, for example), maybe, but it wouldn't be foolproof, and would be quite wasteful of the limited resources on-board, or at least extremely hazardous*. Similarily, jamming (by laser or radar) could prove a nuisance.

Personally, I'd just C-frac and hope I can get a better firing-solution than you with R-bombs while trying to fry your stuff with lasers and particle-beam weapons.

There, I just brought up what appears to be your most controversial topic on-site, and noted my stance regarding those involved. I'd like to hear their say if everyone in E2050 would tolerate RPing with that. Otherwise I'd be happy to move-on and wait for a different FT sub-group to come along.

*More on that later, but lets just say there may have been a number of reasons why the Klingons weren't cloaked 24/7.

Also, I'd rather much preffer mostly slowboats and C-frac over FTL (with exceptions), due to cost, arty-gravity can suck my vacume though, as I don't believe I'd be capable of getting suitable rocket-engines to accelerate better than 160 m/s^2 unless I did something exotic (using between 5 and 24 fission reactors on a ~50 megaton vista-cruiser).

There are few military fans who will have forgotten Ender’s realization that in zero-gravity combat direction has little meaning, and the best way to assault a defended enemy point is feet-first, thus it is always best to remember, “the gate is down” [and you are in free-fall].

Though I'm wondering if the usage of larger particle-beam weapons, THELs, spacesuits reliant on mechanical compression, and fusion-drive would contribute to my tech-development limit.

I know for certain that "deep sleep" chambers and SSTO ferry-pods would require some sort of designing.

Again, no word from their admins, and no validation/verification E-mails have been recieved, just coincidentally timed spam.

So far, I can either see this as a challenge or some form of corruption from someone in power who thinks I'm a threat.

At this point, I suggest prospective members wait and see what happens. As their offsite is starting to look stagnant and their admins unresponsive.

First HT let me just say that this is nothing personal, if it wasnt for your aparent hate for how we operate, you would have been approved a long time ago. But Im sorry HT, your request is denied, you obviously do not have the best interest of the forums in mind and are intent on just screwing with us. And it is obvious that you only want to join to influence our tech approval and force your views/opinion on us.

Mainly for this reason. All rules regarding this are agreed upon by both myself and the admin/moderating team, to ensure a smooth flowing RP. If we choose to disregard the laws of physics for any reason, such as FTL or the use of artificial gravity, it is to allow for a better RP and to help our members enjoy themselves better. It is a sacrifice that must be made.

Actually, I'm pretty sure a check with Carbi or Deph would've showed otherwise, in spite of the fact that I came to know of the offsite under what could be considered less than ideal situations (especially if you checked with Carbandia, he used me as a sounding-board for his intro to FT thread).

Complaints to the draftroom about fellows ignoring the laws of thermodynamics, which is actually fairly common, even Aang-Kai vented about stupidity on NSD from various pet-sites (http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?showtopic=3549)*, the fact his name was on the member-list as an admin and no word was coming from them (as well as masking the tech forum and the apparent ban-hammering Mondoth the day he becomes aware of his registration) gave rise to a number of red flags

That and "You can't see me as I do a full burn in your base".

Other than that, rule of cool alone would've driven it forward, even on NSD, to a degree at least (Frenzia has me quoted on his use of artificiall solar-systems as decoys). Provided there were some disadvantages in the fine print.

Yeah, I should be returning to sanity shortly, at least long enough to figure out whether I should create a random star-system and create a civilization that conforms, or create a civillization and make the system conform via 50 odd years of terra-forming...

I really had myself set with the idea of an initially terrestrial planet self-nuking itself into an irradiated martian wasteland around circa 1980's, with the world coming out of hibernation and fallout shoulters around the turn of the 21st century to go all "2001: A space Oddessy" in hopes of finding a new habitable star-system (and due to my placement, could get rather interesting, as the nearest ones are [I]very close to an inter-galactic crossfire)

But then I run into the random generator giving me a bunch of unusable atmospheres, an excessive gravitational pull (See also: Why the people of Jupiter are not going to be a threat until the perfect force-fields in a super-dense and corrosive atmo and a crushing amount of gravity), only 46 survivors (how the hell am I going to build and man a spacecraft /w/ only 46 people?!), or some other curveball that would ultimately doom my system from the start (no resources left to mine, planet died-out, etc).

It could be just a bad weekend, but it looks like the system-generator wants to kill me.

I suppose I'll try freehanding something (with limits) this week.
In the meantime, I need some rest/sleep before I dig myself out of a snow-drift in the morning...
