There are always nations that no one really knows about and which are faintly heard about save by those who do a lot of research and study of the maps of the vast earth on which we live. The Republic of Aresium was one of those little known nations on the fringes of Earth famous for claiming to be the only state modeled on Plato's Republic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Republic_(Plato)) albeit with modifications and innovations from the Council of Twelve which essentially served as a non elected Parliament which made laws and established foreign policy as it saw fit under the direction of the Supreme Guardians who held precedence over the many guardians who governed the provinces and who administered the laws according to the legalistic code of laws. It was a nation in which lynchings were legal and encouraged, in which publishing child pornography could get you executed, and in which Freethought was as widespread as sex. It was a neutral nation which rejected foreign aid in favor of the concept of charity begins at home and which had a theistic religion modeled after Plato's Timaeus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timaeus_(dialogue)). This was a unique nation that would soon appear on the international stage but under whose direction? Philomena Kosseri, a corporal in the Armed Forces, had risen to power after being appointed by her father in his will to lead Aresium after he died. She was a twenty seven year old woman who lived her life according to the Meditations (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meditations) of Marcus Aurelius, who won many trophies and awards in track and field events, and who was an average believer in the Platonic theism practiced by a majority of the population. She didn't seem too stern like her father or carefree like her mother but rather sat in the middle. As Supreme Guardian, Philomena Kosseri declared to all who would listen that she would retain her father's policies such as the legalization of torture for traitors, terrorists and certain criminals for the simple reason that they deserved it. She also would maintain the death penalty for child porn related offences and would also retain her nation's indifference to foreign aid. It was her who named a lesbian to the post of Foreign Minister and who had no problem with the coldhearted way of life practiced by Adra Zaril, the Councilwoman who led the Armed Forces. Adra was publically known for her support of torture and no one had any problems with it although they secretly reviled her merely for her supposed cruelty towards those who she deemed were undesirable. This didn't bother Philomena, though, because she supported such ideas. The lesbian politician put on the post of Foreign Minister, Levana Flaman, was disliked by many due to her openly lesbian inclinations but Philomena felt she was more than qualified for the post. Levana would be known for her public support of lesbian rights, her unwavering devotion to Freethought, and her master orator skills with which she dealt powerful speeches at her opponents. People openly condemned Philomena for appointing her to power but Philomena did not budge at all.

The Council of Twelve had decided that it was the perfect time to introduce Aresium to the nations of the world and to see how Aresium would fare on the international stage. Philomena felt that her nation would be criticized but that it would not have to deal with being ostracized by the vast majority of the world's nations and that it would gain some friends and even some allies. A notice was immediately drafted upon the conclusion of the meeting in which the following was stated:

The Republic of Aresium is pleased to announce that we are opening our nation's doors to the tourists and ambassadors of the multitude of nations that exist upon our vibrant Earth. Our nation is the first nation to be modeled upon the Republic as developed by ancient philosophers but we desire friendships with all nations regardless of political and religious beliefs. We desire nothing more than peace and good will and we hope that we can foster friendships with the willing nations. Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information. We wish you all prosperity and peace.

The Council of Twelve had been notified swiftly that the Kiravian Empire wished to open relations with Aresium and that they wished to arrange a visit for one of their own to Aresium as well. This was very pleasing to Philomena Kosseri as she looked over the notes given to her by Leva Osseri who was well pleased with her work. "It is essential, Councillors, that we take advantage of this offer from our friends in Kirav. For our nation's sake, we must."

An immediate response was drafted and sent swiftly to the Kiravians. It wasn't too long but rather brief and straight to the point that its authors wanted to make.

We would be honored to open relations with the Kiravian Empire and welcome a diplomat of your choosing to our nation whenever a visit is suitable for you. The Anarchist Confederacy of Third Spanish States, as a highly decentralized and non-coercive true democracy under universal suffrage and moved by anarchist ideals, does not concur with the political ideas espoused by The Republic of Aresium, believing instead that through a proper cultural shift, there will no longer exist a cave, but only a golden age of universal wisdom where the average man is no longer distanced from the wise, where every man becomes a great man, where cultural mediocrity is no longer an excuse to justify hierarchical, and naturally corruptible authority, for even the wisest will succumb to the temptations of power. Many of the greatest tyrants and mass-murderers of mankind history were considered to be wise men and genius, for when a man is doused it absolute power, absolute tyranny thus ensues.

Regardless of our beliefs or of the fact that one of Plato's disciples believed the Earth was flat, we nonetheless are glad to see a different approach and attempt to secure a new paradigm in a world dominated by both long morally and intellectually bankrupt and now decadent ideologies and political dogmas, and hoping that such approach might function better than the morally bankrupt traditional western republics rife in political corruption, demagoguery and cronyism, not only we recognize the independence of The Republic of Aresium as a sovereign nation, but following the gathering of the will of our people through voting, The Anarchist Confederacy of Third Spanish States guarantees the independence of The Republic of Aresium.

We ask that although we may be different in culture and government that our two nations be friends and that, in ways, we may learn from one another and foster the development of knowledge. The idea of a functional republic shaped under the conceptions of Plato crosses my mind, and I would really rather to see it by my own. Alas, to be honest, I really need a break, as currently I am heavily burdened by the state of war that has existed for months between the Confederacy and the tyrannical, mass-murdering and inhuman government of the People's Republic of Spain, for there is no peace in consenting with the misery of a people enslaved by its government, and there is no peace without freedom. And thus we seek war for peace and freedom. Si vis pacem, fac bellum.

Therefore, I would like to schedule a visit to The Republic of Aresium, to perhaps understand how exactly your social order has worked, and to perhaps bring some knowledge to myself and to we as a people from this experience. I can arrive at any moment, provided that it would not be an issue, and will agree to any given date. If you have available time for right time, I will be coming right now, and thus, to unite two paradigms seeking for the same goal. Aresium does operate mostly according to Plato's Republic but I've modified some of it to include some of my ideas. In Aresium, your nation is viewed with interest. Aresium may disagree with the prevalent philosophies of the world but it does not deny nations who subscribe to them a sense of respect and friendliness, that is, unless provoked to give them the opposite. In essence, Aresium is friendly unless provoked. :tongue:

It would have been usual to have letters sent from foreign leaders to the Councilwoman for Foreign Affairs but the Puritanian letter never reached her desk as it was sent past her to a colleague who sat on the Council and who was also the Commander of the Armed Forces of the Republic. Adra Zaril, the Councilwoman for Defense Affairs, was the person who recieved this letter at her mansion in Laches where she had been relaxing after a well done review of the soldiers and their inventory which instilled them with a greater devotion to the Republic in which they lived. Adra had been intrigued, by the letter, when she recieved it. She decided that she herself would visit Repke in Puritania and possibly make a deal with him concerning the nations' respective armed forces. It would have allowed her to get out of the nation and learn first hand about the world.

I am glad to see interest into our anarchist ideals, no matter how disagreements may arise from the different cultural backgrounds of our nations. I am ready to go as of this moment, and will be very happy to make a visit to a different nation. However, I'd like to make a small notice on a certain mistaken assumption about our civilization. The Confederacy of Third Spanish States is not a nation per se, but an ideological alliance which draws, despite its name, people from every corners of the world. More than eight languages are spoken inside our home islands, and no official language do exist. Equally, many of our regions are heavily mixed culturally and ethnically, as for example, share the British heritage from my father side and the Spanish heritage from my mother side. Thus, we believe in internationalism, that mankind should precede national squabbling and divisions of workers and oppressed people serve only to strengthen the upper classes to which the interest of the preservation of the status quo is very high.

I am preparing to board a SA-60 Silent Jetliner (http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42283000/jpg/_42283094_sax-clouds_203.jpg) to the city of Laches, and will arrive in a half dozen of hours or so. I hope that my visit will be fruitful for our both peoples, and that we can establish commercial and diplomatic agreements.

The People's Nation of Alfegos is pleased to finally engage in diplomatic relations with this Republic of Aresium, finally showing itself to the world from its previously isolationist state. As such, with the many new opportunities that such a country has, there are the many options that both it and other nations can exploit to a net benefit.

As such, the People's Nation of Alfegos wishes to invite dignitaries from Aresium to Alfegos, so that discussions can take place between our two nations for the betterment of both. Hopefully, this will allow relations between the two nations to blossom, and result in burgeoning relations between both.

Welcome to the International Community. I hope you find us an interesting group of nations and countries. Lynion is willing, should you require it, a military agreement of some kind whether its selling of military hardware or training your military should you require. We do however, have some resources that we can sell to you and a resonable prive should require it as well.

The People's Nation of Alfegos is pleased to finally engage in diplomatic relations with this Republic of Aresium, finally showing itself to the world from its previously isolationist state. As such, with the many new opportunities that such a country has, there are the many options that both it and other nations can exploit to a net benefit.

The Platonic Republic of Aresium is pleased to announce that we are more than willing to establish diplomatic relations between our two esteemed nations and that we desire the exchange of embassies and the establishment of trade to start things off before further diplomatic correspondence.

As such, the People's Nation of Alfegos wishes to invite dignitaries from Aresium to Alfegos, so that discussions can take place between our two nations for the betterment of both. Hopefully, this will allow relations between the two nations to blossom, and result in burgeoning relations between both.

It would be a pleasure for myself to visit Alfegos in the future and I would be more than willing to host a visit of the President of Alfegos or any other significant politician to the capital city of our nation, Laches. We look forward to further correspondence.

The city of Laches was abuzz with its inhabitants following the routines they had established for the day such as going to school to learn about the world around them or heading to the cafes for some fine food and discussion about whatever came to their minds. It was in the course of this usually seen background that Adra Zaril, the Councilwoman for Defense, arose from her deep slumber of the previous night to look upon the new day that replaced the one now departed. She had been well known for her sadistic inclinations and was said to have supported the torture of criminals and traitors but no one questioned her concerning these inclinations and beliefs. Adra changed into her uniform while her husband groggily walked to find his own. Both of them had been in the Aresian Armed Forces but Adra had a higher rank than her husband. Their children rushed to the dining room to have breakfast with their groggy parents before each of them rushed off to their own routines. Adra Zaril recieved news of the letter from Lynion after she finished her meal and was interested. The Vamperial Kingdom has offered to train Aresian soldiers and this offer interested Adra very much. She had been looking into establishing military partnerships with other nations and had already done so with the Puritanians so she decided it would be good to do so with Lynion. Assuming that Philomena, her liege, would have recieved word of the letter as would Levana Flaman, Adra Zaril departed from her husband with only a tender kiss before heading to the mansion of Philomena Kosseri who most likely would be diving into her study of political thinking whilst being observed by her stoic bodyguard. The mansion was heavily guarded for obvious reasons but Adra was able to get in without any problems merely because of her identity as Adra Zaril, the Councilwoman of Defense, and the possible proponent of limited torture. It was said she supported torturing criminals and traitors but no one wanted to question her about this for the most part. The mansion was simplistic yet adorned with portraits of family members and relatives along with busts and sculptures of folk and mythological heroes and figures. The route to where Philomena was, in her study, was paved with such items. Philomena's study was filled with them as well including a massive statue of an armored woman that looked like she was the personification of Justice clad with a soldier's armor to suggest a dual persona. Philomena, on the other hand, was dressed in nothing more than a cardigan sweater and jeans and was sitting at her desk with a copy of a book on political thinking open whilst her bodyguard stood and watched without emotion on his face as usually happened with him. Philomena smiled at Adra and welcomed her with a smile. It was said Philomena did not question Adra's possible support of torture because she herself supported torture in certain cases such as with those who commit treason or those who murder children. Philomena was well known for her continued support of the harsh laws her father and previous leaders had put in place in an attempt to harness virtue within the land and to expel vice and treasonous thought. Adra stood at Philomena's desk while her liege continued to read the book while paying attention to her colleague. "....I am sure you recieved the letter from Lynion or, at least, word of it, Philomena. It contained an offer to have them train our soldiers which I have treated with much interest."

Philomena nodded her head. "....Levana told me about the letter which she recieved from them and recommended not only the full establishment of ties with them but also consideration of the offers they made. I am supportive of having them train our soldiers since we do not know whether or not we can always maintain the neutrality we treasure so much in the face of warlike nations and nations which are willing to pave the way to continuing their power with the blood of innocents."

Adra smiled. "....We would fight till the last man for the sake of Aresium even if we were outnumbered and if victory were rejected as a mere illusion by those around us, Philomena. Although it is our mutual opinion that war should only be relied upon as a last resort, we would fight if we were attacked regardless of the situation. You do remember, I am sure, that we decided we would fight the crews of Kanna's ships if she had attacked our shipping lines. You know that I would crave their demise if they did such an act."

Philomena flipped through the pages of her book. ".....The essence of government is its ability to defend the nation and people overwhich it presides and this, Adra, is but a universal truth acknowledged by all people regardless of ideology and prejudice but let us not talk about the essence of government. We should focus on the letter from Lynion. Now, my proposal is that we fully accept their offers and extend the olive branch. You, Adra, are to meet whoever they send in representation of their government and you are to tell them that we look forward to working with them. You must be courteous with him or her; It's possible other nations have maidens in high positions."

Adra nodded her head while flipping through one of Philomena's books without much interest. ".....I shall make sure everything goes well, Philomena, and you have nothing to fear concerning my meeting with their representative. The soldiers of Aresium and Lynion shall work together in unanimous solidarity rather than shed each other's blood in needless bloodbaths. You know fully well of my successes with the Puritanians which, indeed, will return to us with the men and women of Lynion but, however, nothing is certain."

Philomena closed her book. "....Nothing is ever certain in this world. I remain fully confident in your abilities, Adra, and I pray you shall meet with success lest our reputation become tainted with bad fruits. You should get going now, though, and look into sending a response to Lynion. Make sure Levana knows so that her response does not conflict with your own."

Adra nodded her head before swiftly withdrawing from Philomena's study amidst the cover of the stoicism she had perfected during the course of her life such as when she was approached, as a child, with things that bored her and didn't make her excited. Dressed in her military uniform, she proceeded to head to the complex where she worked where she composed a response to Lynion after notifiying Levana Flaman of her intentions.

Military training will be watched by two sections of our military forces that we use for battle. We'll be sending Officers from the Lynion Hunter Corps (combination of marines and Spec Ops) and Officers from the Lynion Assassin (Elite Spec Ops) Divisions to help out with the training. They'll be under the command of a handful of Vamperial Masters (equalivant to generals) and Vamperial Knights (equlivant to colonel's or commanders). The Head Vamperial Master is Vamperial Master Rathma who has seen many conflicts other his years. Even though he's a bloodthirsty, partly cyborg (due to wounds from wars), Rathma is one of our best strategists we ever have and a great trainer. We'll send a detachment of two companies of Lynion Assassin's and Lynion Hunters.

Military hardware is very limited to selling to other nations but we mainly produce weapons that nations can use to establish their military forces on. We can arm your army with pistols, shotguns, SMG's, assault rifles, anti-armour weapons and a few other things or request. Navy is a simple fleet of frigates, destroyers, cruisers and AA ships to start off with. If your after carrier's, we don't sell or make them anymore. Air Force will be limited but I think we can sell you FX-18 Foxes Fighter Jets alongside an AA System and if required, we can setup some anti-shipping batteries. I would like to point out, that the weapons that the Lynion Forces use are never for sale. We make weapons and supplies just to get you on your feet.

The resources we were talking about are gold, sliver, oil, fuel, metal, natural gases and steel metal that you can use. We also supply wood but thats in a limited supply. If you want anything, please send a reply back and inform me what you require and I'll see what we can do to help you.

The arrangements that you mentioned in your letter concerning the training of Aresian soldiers sounds acceptable to me and to my colleagues in the Aresian Armed Forces who are, indeed, looking forward to working with Rathma and other officers from the Vamperial forces which you may send along with him. Rathma is welcome to come this week and he will be welcomed by an official Aresian military group and taken to one of our military bases.

We see no problem with any of this and look forward to obtaining well made, we hope, supplies and weapons from the factories of Lynion. We would definately hope that the hardware you supply us with is of top quality and not merely obsolete or discarded hardware which has no use in your nation. Please tell us the costs of the hardware, etc so we may calculate the necessary funds.
