Somewhere in Cerberus

Usually when a major revolution happens the fire is ignited by one man. The first serious attempt at a democratic reformation in The Peoples Freedom since the untimely death of President Matt Booch was no different. Leaders of revolutions tend to be great men, worshiped as living legends, they are superior military strategists, great orators that inspire many to the cause, religious figures with uncompromisable morals, or beloved politicians. Once again, this was no different.

Senator John Norris was this leader. His rise had been spectacular, he did not conform to the corruption that plagued the Senate as they took deals from religious leaders and defense contractors. This man did not take bribes, voted down the pay increases, introduced reforms to limit military spending and decrease taxes, and reform ethic laws. Norris became an enemy of almost very established politician in the country. The famed Generals hated him, threatened him. He was there anti-thesis their anti-christ. He was the opposite of them, better than them. But he was untouchable. Norris was untouchable because he was the people's hero, the press's hero, and the corporations hero all in one.

While he had been a pain in the corrupted officials collective butts for some time, it had only been a severe problem in the recent year. Norris has committed the unforgivable sin. He had escalated the power struggle by founding the Libertas Party which was expected to sweep the elections in just two months time. His party had all the money in the world, the voter's support, and the unyielding determination and vocal skill of quite possibly a living god, Senator John Norris.

But if Norris expected the old powers to simply shrink into the shadows peacefully and die, he was sorely mistaken. For thirty years, they had uses money, coercion, and brute force to suppress any serious threat to their fat hands full of money. They had reached an end point and a point of no return. With elections just two months away, the time for desperate action had come.

Norris looked in the mirror and once again drifted away into his own thoughts. It was, after all, incredible that he had come this far in such a short time. He truly did have God's blessings. With His help John Norris was certain that he would be able to usher TPF into new age- an age filled with hope and optimism, progress and freedom. The task had not been easy so far, he was facing challenges at every corner he turned, and yet he was breaking through these challenges with the strength that he never knew he had, encouraged by the untold millions of citizens who looked to him to lead them into a new future. A future that everybody could be proud of.

The speech that day was at Weston University, named after the famous general who had killed himself during the civil war that had founded modern TPF more than twenty-five years ago. Tens of thousands had come to see Norris speak, formally announcing his campaign for the Presidency, which had sat empty for ten years since the untimely death of President Booch. The speech was originally going to be in a small amphitheater, but in the end it had been moved to the stadium, over sixty thousand people sat in the seats to watch him, thousands more blocked the outside of the massive stadium, watched over by police. News was everywhere- the media was truly on Norris' side as they broke away from the corrupted politicians greedy grasps. The motorcade took a fully twenty minutes getting through the crowd, it going wild with excitement and glee here was their hero, speaking to the people themselves.

Norris exited his armored limousine with his trademark smile and handsome body, waving to all his faithful supporters. His bodyguards stalked in the shadows, more intelligence arrived everyday pointing to a plot- here was one of the worst places to protect. Nevertheless he strode forward like a chivalric knight clad in moral armor and protected by God. The noise was deafening as John climbed the stairs to his podium. He shook the Dean's hand, and smiled his trademark smile for all.

He was on every news channel, billions were watching on this Sunday night at the dinner tables, in the bars, at work, military personal stationed around the world watched, the new breed of officers and the enlisted clearly more excited than the weathered veterans. Beautiful flags of The Peoples Freedom swung slowly in the light winter breezed behind him. Never before perhaps in that football stadium were the crowds more loud and raucous.

" Thank you! Thank you! My friends, I come humbly before you today. It is no secret of the struggles our country has had to face in the last four long years. It is no secret that our country is depressed and in the dark, struggling to find that light. I am that light. Like the sun itself I have come to free you, my fellow citizens, from the darkness and give you all warmth again. For far too long have we been held captive by these corrupted politicians that spend trillions of taxpaper money on useless projects, these men openly take bribes, insult this country, and take advantage of you my friends."

" These same men, blind by greed and petty disputes, have lead this nation downwards time and time again. These men have lead us into a fruitless and completely unneeded war in Foxbury, leading to the deaths of millions and the loss of a part of this nation. These men have destroyed- no, raped the Constitution and your rights! Your rights, my friends, the ones that we have bled for in our history. These same men tax you all horrendously, taking as much as sixty percent of your income to use in worthless government projects and into their own fat pockets. They have created a government that is as big as a whale, they have given into lobbyists and foreign powers. These men have forgotten what values our great nation was founded on- they have helped tyranny and aided communism, they have tortured political opponents and have shut down small business in favor of mega corporations."

" Clearly, these men are not your friends. I am. It is time to kick these greedy men out of government, and install a new government responsible to you, the people of The Peoples Freedom. A government that will not surrender to foreign interests or domestic bribes. A government that will follow its duty to defend you, a government that will follow and respect your rights to the letter. It is time for Prussians to say no Tyranny and poverty and yes to Freedom and prosperity."

Cerberus - Today billions of people watched as Senator John Norris of The People's Freedom announced his candidacy for their upcoming presidential race. This news, coming so close to the Yanitarian elections, has drawn extreme interest with it's implications for Yanitarian-Prussian relations, especially with the large Prussian minority in Northern Yanitaria and Province Oriental. During the short speech, Norris derided the existing government of TPF, claiming that they are responsible for such things as their war in Foxbury, Corporate Favoritism over small business, and unabashed bribery, among other things. These revelations where shocking, as many people outside of TPF were not aware of the government corruption, which have now essentially required any Yanitarian party in the presidential race to voice support for the Libertad party, or at least against their opposition.

In response to these major allegations, King Norheim II has voiced concerns over whether or not the elections in TPF will be entirely honest, and has made it known that should he be asked, he would create an organization that would have the capability of watching election stations, although he has not made any commitments yet. As of 7:30 this morning, news leaked from the Parlement building that a number of conseillers have started putting aside money from their own pockets and from their campaign funds to begin training volunteers, a fact which easily found its way to the press for obvious reasons. A number of conseillers, notably from the Alternative Liberale, have called this act blatant pandering, and preparation for interventionism. The controversial move seems to have sparked intense debate, although the extreme minority status of the AL party has limited its extent.

This last week turmoil has begun to boil over in the Prussian nation of The Peoples Freedom as new political powers move for the government. Led by a Prussian Senator named John Norris the movement, calling itself the Libertas, has been quickly growing in support, promising dramatic changes to the corrupt current government of the nation. With both Senatorial and Presidential elections nearing sources from within TPF, as well as Sumerian foreign political watchers, are predicting an increasing chance of the movement attaining its goals in regards to the government.

Current Prusso-Sumerian relations are strained by the perceived corruption in most elements of Prussian government, providing a strong backdrop for interest in Prussian politics by the Civil Senate. Potential success of the Libertas movement could provide the Nesselrode resurgent energy to rekindle Prusso-Sumerian relations, and as such are being watched closely. A recent poll of the Civil Senate shows that current trend thinking among the Senators is in favor of the new movement in Prussia, however non-interventionist sentiment has been expressly reiterated.

John Norris and the Libertas movement has gained a small following among Sumer's minority European immigrant population, many of whom are of Prussian descent. For the moment only a small portion of the population, and perhaps the government, are watching the process in The People's Freedom unfold, however as things along the Prussian election trail begin to heat up and further boil over, it is likely more and more eyes, at home and abroad, will watch the issue.
