Ten Eyck, Vaarshire- The island of Vaarshire, a Dutch protectorate since it was won from the British in the second Anglo-Dutch War, has voted to become independent in a referendum. The protectorate had been gaining increased autonomy in the Kingdom of the Netherlands steadily since the early 20th century. Known for its' elected monarchy and curious melding of British and Dutch cultures, as well as it's near cult-like reverence of their leader, Princess Anne de Vaar, the protectorate finally voted to gain independence, deciding that their culture was too different from that of their mother country.

With her nation now known as the Principality of Vaarshire, Princess de Vaar has decreed that her nation be open to foreign diplomats. "If Vaarshire is to succeed in the world," said the Princess in a press release, "We shall need to be open to those who wish to communicate with us. And so, I welcome any nation who wishes to open an embassy in the capital, in the hopes that it will not only benefit my nation but the other nations of the world as well."

In the press release, Princess de Vaar also stated the creation of the new Ministry of Diplomacy, which any nation seeking to build an embassy will need to contact.

TO ALL NATIONS:

We apologize for the sudden stoppage of diplomatic communication. The Vaar government, weakened by the assassination of Princess Anne de Vaar, was overthrown in October by the Party for a Communist Vaarshire. The People's Republic of Vaarshire secluded itself from the world scene in order to rebuild and restructure the Vaar political system with little distraction.

However, two days ago, a covert military operation eliminated the leadership of the People's Republic of Vaarshire and the Principality was reinstated. The government is now headed by Prince Johannes de Vaar, and is going to continue as if the aforementioned Communist revolution never happened. All diplomatic channels have been re-opened and we hope that Vaarshire can again participate in the global scene.
