Southern Greal to be given back to Greal
South Point, Southern Greal- In a narrow vote early Friday afternoon, the Senate passed a bill granting Southern Greal back to the nation of Greal.
Southern Greal had been taken over by Prussian forces following a short war, over one million square kilometers of land was given to TPF in the peace agreement. Over 350 million Grealian citizens have lived under Prussian sovereignty for over four years.
In four years of occupation the Southern Greal GDP grew over 11% and the standard of living rose by a large percentage. The decision to grant Southern Greal back to Greal was achieved by the Peoples Democratic party initiative which also had signficant Conservative Party backing. While polls showed that the majority of Grealians were satisfied with Prussian rule, other polls also showed a strong desire to return sovereignty to Greal.
Greal still owes The Peoples Freedom around $350 billion in war debts, according to the Treasury Department. Greal has been paying off the one trillion debt at a rate of around 33% a year.
Prussian corporations are very strong in Greal, but many corporations and business are unsure whether or not they will continue to operate in Greal if higher taxes come into play. Currently around six million are employed by Prussian business.
The agreement still allows for military bases there, there are currently 14 in Southern Greal. The government announced today however that 7 of these will be closed. Southern Greal is expected to be handed back officially in a formal ceremony at the TPF embassy in two weeks time.
