Operation: Ascension

The continental island of Vigil was a resource rich island surrounded by nothing but hundreds upon thousands of miles of empty, blue ocean. It was an odd thing for such a large piece of land to be so isolated from anything else, but when the Tocrowkian Reich found the resource rich land they did not question the nature of it. Rather, they simply landed and began to take over. The native population was a primitive race of Non-Nordics which made the Reich's brutal treatment of them even more acceptable to the government back home.
They were treated like vermin in their own land. Their villages destroyed, forced to hide in the hills and scavenge what they could to make their new homes and feed their children. The Tocrowkians, in contrast, set up advanced facilities to harvest Vigils resources. Especially the oil and the titanium deposits dotted all over the island. Of course the work stations needed to be protected against a potentially vengeful native population, so a garrison of around 120,000 of the Reich's finest were stationed in and around the work encampments. Some said was far too large of a force for such a small island, but what was about to happen would prove those opponents of the military presence wrong...

The Immortal Lands of the Great Lord Tiger constructs many of its weapons of war using titanium, a naturally-sound structural material. Its expenditure has depleted most of the reserves inside the nation, and the Imglot government always seeks to add to its supplies, preferably by taking the resources of others.

"Admiral!"
Admiral James Huntin, commander of the Combat Freighter The Dawn's Light, turned at the call of a technician at one of the various stations arranged around the bridge. He stepped over, noting which station he was moving towards. Ah- the terrestrial scanner.
"What is it?" he asked the excited young Lieutenant-Commander.
"Sir, this planet has an island filled with T1 ore, and even some T2. Scans indicate an amount equivalent to the requirement for the internal skeleton of several Doom-Type Battleships."
Huntin was taken aback. That much titanium ore? Imglot could construct half again as many Space Naval warships as they had now, if those figures were right. And... perhaps this planet was filled with other goodies. Perhaps even palladium, for their fusion reactors? The Great Lord knew, the Imglot military machine could always use more energy.
"Contact Logistics. Take us down to the sea- hover the Light over the waves. Ready a reinforced brigade of Eradicator WACUs. Then... find out what you can about the indigenous peoples, if any. I foresee a bunch of primals wielding sticks and stones, but the Great Lord blesses the weak."
The large- but, compared to the rest of the Imglot fleet ships, rather small- freighter alighted from the heavens, coming to a rest above the ocean's surface. The waves sizzled away from its scalding hull, as afraid of Imglot as these natives soon would be.
The shuttle hatches opened, and sleds bearing dozens of the 3-story walking tank known as the Eradicator emerged. Few modern weapons of war could stand up to the Eradicator-type Walking Armored Combat Unit. Based slightly on the mythology of a past civilization, the reverse-jointed, walking tanks provide increased visibility, at the cost of flimsiness compared to other, more typical, designs.
A platoon of 500 walking tanks landed on a calm beach. Nothing stirred, but for the waves crashing into the rocky shore. Then, calmly, methodically, they marched into the forest, unaware of hostile presence.

The Tocrowkians had of course scouted the entire island and set up observation posts along the coastal regions. Low-lying and semi-buried into the ground they were not as visible as the typical watch towers many would expect. Staffed with only a few dozen individuals with advanced range-finding and commucations gear, they were also efficient. So when an entire fleet of unknowns and strange, walking tanks of all things were spotted the post that saw them immediately alerted the rest of the island.
A rapid-response armored division was mobilized and sent toward the area, though of course it would take awhile for them to get there. The first contact with the enemy would likely be the Air-Cav, which sent forward a squadron of strike-fighters to annihilate the potential hostiles...

"Air Contact!"
The Eradicators were divided into three elements; a forward unit of 180 mechs pushed forward in a wedge formation, with twin 120-walker screens flanking. It was one of the screens that called out the warning.
A cloud of hostiles appeared on their detection systems. The right-hand screen, facing the inbound attackers, twisted their torsos, continuing forward while preparing to return fire. The leading-element's leader, who was also the CO of the op, called for the left screen to sweep around, forming an 'L'-shaped wall and watching for more contacts. The right-side unit turned their bodies then, facing the jets with their armored faces.
The skies lit up with a furious glow of blue and red energy rounds, and the WACU pilots braced themselves for the incoming enemy projectiles, whether ballistic or energy.

The Solarious XIII Recovery Team was one of the few military branches that still existed after the Total Barcode Revolution. Its duty was to find and recover codeless citizens. The urgency of these individuals are due to their willingness to remove their codes, located in the back of the neck...

"Captain!" a young sailor shouted. "The island in search grid Two-Sigma is emitting high levels of carbon. Approximately 290 bits per cubic feet spread over a diameter of 3-miles."
This is a high enough level to suggest a large incursion on land. It could be the rouge personnel we're looking for, thought the Captain. He turned to pick up the amplifier and shouted out to the Front Deck.
"Handlers time to launch Golden Eagle Observers!"
After the cuts back on military budget after the Revolution, military scientists turned to Nature for guidance and discovered a new stealth unit available all the entire time, Golden Eagles. Due to a variance in how Golden Eagles are raised, their calls (though changed causing problems during mating) were found to be easier to be translated. This research led to the GE-Human Interface Unit.
After the order, Vance, the Handler on duty at the time, prepped his Eagle, who called itself Levax, for flight. Levax chirpped which translated to Vance's eyepiece. What is happening? the translation scrolled. Did we find where they are yet?
Vance chuckled and brought up the HOTU (Human Output Translator Unit) and replied.
"No my friend, we aren't sure but possibly." With that comment, Levax seemed to smile.
Levax hopped off Vance's arm and took off. Moments later, Levax could see island ahead... along with its pain. He could see the land stripped of its trees, flames burning with their smoke choking up the air, and the main concern on the Strider-class ship. Craters were almost everywhere. To the north were walking behemoths with possibly between Levels 5-6 Advancement while to the south were towers and aircraft with Levels 5-6 Advancement as well. However, these units indicated no Level 7B Advancements probably introduced by Dr. Rasgard. If they were here undetected by Levax, may their souls soar to the Guiding Lands.
He watched anticipatingly as the Eagle flew away. He soon crawled out of the cave and thought how fortunate he was. The moment he had crashed on the island, he was found by a clan of the indigenous people. Called the Non-Nordics by the secondary inhabitants, they loathed the secondary people for treading their sacred grounds with odd machines making holes in the ground. Now they were desperate enough to get anyone to help them topple the invaders. The cave they were in was full of active F-Zion crystals, the primary ingredient in his mutant programs. How blind the government was to his research!, he laughed his research hand in hand with the cloning research would create the most lethal and powerful army in the world. The demons will rise again in man's final hour.... He turned and faced his creations and the Non-Nordics.
"Kill them all, none must live." With that order, screams, yells, and howls were heard in the cave.
The tomes of History shall not forget Dr. Rasgard.

When the first anti-aircraft fire filled the air, command informed all elements that weapons were free. The Squadron instantly targeted the bizarre tank-like weapons, dropping precision-guided munitions aimed for their legs in particular. At the low altitude they were flying, a few casualties were of course suffered but the high-speed the strike fighters were flying compensated somewhat. They made several passes over the strange enemy weapons, releasing waves and waves of fire every time they did.

The legs of the Eradicators were targeted by the enemy munitions, and a considerable number of the walking tanks fell to the onslaught. Their lasers, while making a brave show, lacked the ability to track such small targets. Luckily, the Eradicator-Class was equipped with twin shoulder-mounted missile racks. These small munitions were multi-purpose, capable both of ripping apart enemy armor or tracking fast-moving aircraft.
The CO called for the leading element, now down to 143 units, to fire a barrage of six missiles each; the unit-to-unit computer link enabled them to ensure target lock on all enemies, as opposed to the chance of untargeted units. A volley of 858 missiles streaked into the air; of those, 52 malfunctioned from damage or expected error, but the other 806 sought out enemy targets.
The two flanks had lost the most units, being reduced to 52 and 89 units; 284 walkers stood. Of those, 47 were heavily damaged, reduced to limping. With the missiles- at least hopefully- thinning the aerial threat, they would still stand a chance against ground-based enemies. Or so it could be hoped.

The Air-Cav retreated after emptying their payloads. Compared to the losses the enemy suffered in the raids, the Reich lost only six fighters and that was only because they hadn't been prepared for the type of anti-aircraft weaponry the exotic enemy weapons carried. The fighters took off into higher altitude to avoid any fleeting enemy exchanges as they went back to base to re-arm and re-fuel. Meanwhile, the first sign of Tocrowkian ground forces was seen on the horizon in the form of a division of main-battle tanks.

The sight of enemy ground units would have been discouraging, had the Eradicators been anything but. Able to see above the wreckage now littering the ground, the heavy Wrath-type lasers spewed thick beams of red energy, targeted at the rolling metal boxes. The formation quickly divided, the three units becoming one; forming a V shape, the opening towards the enemy, they continued the barrage of laser fire, the occasional missile adding to the offense.

The charge, lead primarily by M1K Jaina (http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?showtopic=4473) main battle tanks also targeted the legs of the exotic enemy weapons. The Jaina's formidable protection afforded them from suffering disastrous casualties at the hands of the enemies direct energy weapon, but some losses were of course unavoidable. To support the armored push, several dozen attack helicopters were sent in, also targeting the legs of the walking tanks.

The Eradicators, anticipating the enemies targeting their legs, decided that it was time to shock and awe. The full division, directed by the commander, unleashed the remainder of their missiles towards all available targets. While they would be left with nothing but energy weapons, a barrage of thousands of missiles should obliterate a large number of targets.
It was time to consider retreat.

The time to strike was now.
"Charge!"shouted the crazed Dr. Rasgard. As he ran toward the tanks the natives had called Jaina, a large swarm of mutants looking like a cross between the inhabitants, bears, and tigers flanked by distorted-looking crows carrying pots of molten lead with gunpowder mixed in.
As they neared the tanks, the tiger-bears charged forward and clawed into each tank, ripping the bodies apart inside. The birds poured the lead over the heads of the infantry scorching their bodies.
As this was happening, Dr. Rasgard laughed insanely on a hill.
