History: The settlement of Nisipolis, the capital of Delos, was first inhabited in around 750 B.C., when traders from an unknown place in mainland Greece colonized the islands. During that time, it was reported that there were signs of people living in the area before the traders settled in, but there is no record of them. These Greek traders landed on the northern coast of the island of Delos, in a natural harbor, and proceeded to build their houses and create a temple for Posiedon, as a thanks for granting them a safe trip. The Delotians agreed on installing a leader for life, or a Dictator.

Over the next 200 years, Delos remained a small, isolated town of only 2,000 people. When the Delotians finally decided to explore eastwards, they found a larger island, filled with resources. No one knew what – or who – was there. They quickly sent 300 men on an expedition, to find the island empty on the west coast. The Delotians also settled in this area, and with more land and even a forest, they were able to create larger ships to trade. The east coast of the island was inhabited by a small group of people, living in small huts speaking a very odd form of Ancient Greek. These people attacked the Delotians, although they quickly lost against the superior technology of the Delotians.

The Delotians, eager to trade once again with the outside world, created their ships and filled them with cargo of precious pearls, olive oil, and a few slaves. The voyage was successful, and Delos became a key trading partner in the Aegean Sea. Since then, the population has grown rapidly, though has stayed small because of the crowded area in Nisipolis and the rest of Delos

Military: As Delos is an island nation and has no hostile land neighbors, its military has little ground troops. Most of the land troops consist of elite light infantry, such as the famous Delotian archers and peltasts. Their strength lies in the navy, one of the largest in the world, and most probably the largest per capita. Delos has no calvary, due to the lack of horses, however, stampedes of goats and rams have been used by the military to scare off and even attack enemy positions.

Military Units:

Hoplite: Although the center of most Greek armies, the Delotian Hoplite is not a main part of the Delotian army, even though they are always used.

Swordsman: Usually behind the Hoplite’s Phalanx were the swordsman. These men were dressed similarly to the Hoplite, but only carried a longsword and a dagger, with a shield. The swordsman job was to usually go around the enemy phalanx and attack swiftly from the sides and retreating just as quickly, to shock the enemy.

Archer/Pelatist: The Archers and pelatists both play a similar and important role in the Delotian battlefield. Usually situated in the back of the army formation, archers and pelatists are the ones who start a Delotian battle by shooting off a hail of arrows and some javelins at the enemy. Occasionally, the archers and pelatists are in the center of a Phalanx, protected by the hoplites.
