Bothering roef! [open to all, ooc]

Roef

Here you can all say how bad i am, cus i dont want these massages in my wars and IC threads.

MODEDIT: No, you can't say how bad he is. You can say what he could do to improve. If you're a newbie, you can also ask for help yourself.

If you hunt for this thread later and can't find it, it'll probably have been moved to Gameplay, because that's the forum about how to play all aspects of NS.

I'm leaving it here for the time being, though, because I hope it will stay limited to specifically International Incidents RPing.

Well, that's on account of the Draftroom.

Yea, thanks to the draftroom. But here you can all, say every OOC thing to me, if its an unfriendly thing.

I have several things to say:

1) Please, listen to advice offered. You don't have to take it, but if it's logical and generally makes sense, then I'd advise you to take it. (Advice about advice, lol)
2) State clearly what the topic status is at the start. Open? Closed? Semi-Open? Something useful for closed topics and choosing who to RP with would be a sign-up thread-cum-OOC thread. Makes for better coordination.
3) Don't run away from topics. That makes you look bad to everyone. And never, ever, lose your head. >.<
4) Don't be afraid- call people out on god-mode if they did do it, and don't be afraid to ask politely and all. Chances are, if you're friendly and don't take offense at too much, people will like you.
5) I suggest improving your English; it makes for better understanding between all sides. I was confused a bit by your posts in the Oil In Roef Claimed Lands thread, whether you were opting for war or peace.
6) Consider the other options. There's always more options than just war. Keep an open mind; think out of the box. Sometimes I am guilty of doing neither.
7) The underdog can win. Lynion can attest to that.
8) We're all imperfect, from you to me to, well, everyone on this planet really.
Northam-York
21-09-2008, 10:49
That's pretty good Eird Lor. Just one thing, what does it mean when you used the word attest?

7) The underdog can win. Lynion can attest to that.
Kewen
21-09-2008, 10:56
it means, lyion won when he was on the losing side

attest ns more or less "he can give evidence to support that"
Erid Lor

I saw somewhere that he beat Volzgrad, who had a large numerical advantage, yet Lynion still beat him.

If you were looking for the definition, then:

"To affirm to be correct, true, or genuine", or so says the dictionary; I couldn't figure out a clear way to explain it in my own words, despite being called a 'walking dictionary' IRL (hence my signature xD).

I may be new in terms of post counts, but I've been watching for a while, unable to post... :P :D

(Sorry for unrelatedness to the actual thread in this reply roef)

Edit: And for a short-form way of explaining what I just said, see ^, Thanks Kewen.

@ Lynion: No offense to Roef, but I think it was the classic human defence of self-pity and passive aggressiveness. I should know...

In any case Roef, all's you need to do is lighten up, listen to other people, and have fun.
Kewen
21-09-2008, 11:17
i dont think its possible for someone to have fun, and lighten up when you have the same group of people followiong you from thread to thread and posting more or less
"YOUR NOT LISTENING NOOB, why are you not listening <insert rage > you are lame for not listening to worthy adivce, stop RPing till your learn some skills."

which is a summary of what people do to roef in every thread, even when he asks them to go away nicely once or twice. i read Roef's threads, because i hate it when people acuse others of not listening then do it themselmes a la hypocrit(notsure if thats how you spell it)

Kewen, you sound like you're a teenager screaming, "I TOLD YOU SO! SEE, I TOLD YOU SEE! I'M SMART! I TOLD YOU SO!". XD

Roef, all you gotta do is take the RPing a little slower. This will aid you in knowing what is going on to a better degree, which will aid your responses. You should also take those slower as well, so you make your points clearer.

Roef, I know you want to RP better, correct?

Last year I had this same problem. When a whole group of nations invaded me, I panicked and got..."upset".

I've seen your designs, you're getting better at them. I would like to offer a little advice. Read other people's threads for examples, and see their RP posts.

Lapse, dear, it's time for supper and everyone's been so worried about you! It was very naughty to wander off like that. Now just hop in the back of the squad car and we'll take you home.

Roef, your reply was exactly right. Thank you for looking after him.

All, I'll add a bit to Roef's first post so you have a reason to expand your comments a little. I know we have stickies on how to RP, but not everyone reads them. II has its own customs, and they're sometimes a bit hard for newcomers to fathom.

The occasional live thread can help. so if there are any experienced players who can give specific examples or general up-to-date commentary, here's your chance. Newbies might also post about what they find confusing.

Mods will be keeping an eye on the thread, so flamers and spammers can expect the sky to fall on their heads.

This was a public service announcement. We now return you to our regular programming.

I'm guessing that live thread means "One that's commonly posted in"?

Well, I suppose i'm still considering redoing Sky Of Aces thread (It got a bit out of hand last time). If I do, and Roef is prepared to listen to and take on board the advice myself, Lynion, Alversia, Salzland & many others have given him, I don't see why he couldn't join that. I'm still planning it though, so don't expect a Sky Of Aces II thread to appear in the next 5 minutes,.

Well, the original was about a group of elite Fighter Pilots during 1943. It was more a character RP, but at the same time it was a war RP.

Lynion will know about it, and Ursava signed up.

At the moment, it's likely to be set sometime in the 1950's, but i'm not yet decided. I don't think you were online at the time of it. Here, this will link you to the IC thread - it's finished now, obviously.

Well, it wasn't that bad. Yes, it could. I was originally thinking 1950's, but if other Nations would like it to be later than that, i have no problems with that.

OOC: Alright, i understand... Go ahead...

With what?

Ustio North, what I actually meant by "live thread" was one that is having a lot of current posts, as opposed to the stickies, which tend to have a rush when posted, then die off to a trickle (if they're not locked).

Try to keep this one general. No harm in starting a separate sign-up thread if someone shows an interest in your RP, but in terms of this thread, see what you can say that would be helpful in all II roleplaying.

For example, which works better for you: a separate sign-up/OOC thread, with the action taking place in another IC thread, or just plunging into the RP and including very occasional OOC comments?

Is it worthwhile making a detailed factbook for your nation before you start RPing, or do you build it up as you go along? Is it acceptable to change your factbook if you find a particular detail doesn't work? What military strength did you start with, and how did you figure it out? Can one successfully RP a non-war -- one in which shrewd diplomacy, or mutually assured destruction, averts a conflict?

I don't mean anyone need answer all these questions, I'm just trying to suggest areas newcomers might want information on.

And yes, regulars, this has all been done before; I just thought it was time the latest crop had a go.

Oh right. That's kinda what I meant when I asked, but thanks for clarifying that.

For example, which works better for you: a separate sign-up/OOC thread, with the action taking place in another IC thread, or just plunging into the RP and including very occasional OOC comments?

Well, since i'm answering this post anyway, i'll say a bit on my nation and RP's. Sky Of Aces had an OOC/Discussion/Signup Thread, where characters were formed and ideas were planned. Once we had the relevant players and information, I created an IC thread. OOC was to be kept to a minimum in the IC thread.

In answer to the three areas I emboldened:

1: Yes, I would reccommend taking the time to write a detailed factbook. I recently re-wrote my factbook to be a bit easier on the brain for reading, as my first one wasn't very clear.

2: Yes. I had to change part of my history to work with the rest of it, and the Sky Of Aces RP (If you're looking at my factbook, the Revolution originally happened in the 1940s, but since that was when SoA was set, it was changed)

3: Personally, I started with a Military overall the size of the UK, when my nation was around that size. Once I was of a similar size of the USA, I updated my Military to be a similar size. Now, i generally add about 100,000 personel every 2 months, which I see as a reasonable build up.
