The Emperor of the Holy Geschke Dynasty, Nicholas Geschke, father of Crown Princess Abigail Geschke stood before his gathered court members in the exterior part of the gardens of his Palace. Located in the capital city, the Imperial Palace was a grand structure of both ancient architechure and history; constructed by the first King, then resized and expanded a hundred times over by his predecessors all the way up to his father.

Now, the Emperor's Palace was to serve another role: The place to celebrate his daughter's coming-of-age ceremony, more commonly known as her, "Sweet-Sixteen."

The area of the gardens he'd selected for the party was massive; perhaps large enough to accomodate a thousand people, not including the many servants and commonfolk who were touring the Palace's grounds when they weren't off on their duties.

As he waited for the invited dignitaries from other countries to arrive, Nicholas began to think extensively about his wife, Empress Rachel and his daughter, Princess Abigail.

Empress Rachel was a strong woman, born noble but humble in upbringing. She was everything Nicholas saw as fit for a woman; beautiful, intelligent, strong willed, charismatic and not afraid to stand up to him. The Empress was also a girl well-versed in the arts of Politics, as well, she'd served more than a symbolic role, plus that of a wife and mother.

Empress Rachel was also one of the most valued members of the Imperial court; handling much of the day-to-day administration and most of the public appearances to the citizens.

If anything, her biggest flaws were that she was incredibly stubborn, tended to go to the extreme and was a tad narcissistic. Though these traits were not unusual for someone of her upbringing, it seemed apparent to many citizens that the Empress sometimes got a little bit too happy when her husband let her handle some of the more important decisions.

Clearly, her traits were reflected upon in her daughter, Princess Abigail.

Abby, (As she was known) was truly lovely in appearance: Long, flowing brown hair and green eyes, curvaceous figure and a cheerful, optimistic aura to her. Though Abby disliked being told what to do, she accepted criticism a little more easily than her mother, and truth be told loved her people on a line that bordered on zealousness.

All-in-all, they were the most important females in his life, and he'd gladly give his life, everything he had for them.

Then, the Emperor shook off his thoughts and returned to the matter at hand; Rachel and Abby were undoubtedly preparing for the party in their rooms, probably off worrying about some small detail and busily making themselves presentable.

Right about now, the only thing the ruler could do was wait.

The Guards set aside their weapons and let the gates of the Palace open widely, "Head inside, to the right, down the stairs on your first left and out the second door on your third right." A guard said, giving the Lieutenant a salute. "If you haven't got all that..." He said pausing as a smile came up, "Just follow the signs."

~Back inside~

The Emperor was now standing in a private part of the garden area where his beloved daughter's birthday was taking place. The area was small enough to fit a single wooden table and some rather simple but fancy decor; a couple of potted plants and a rather large version of the national flag suspended just above the chair of the part of the table, opposite to the entrance.

"Where in Hell is that woman, and that girl?"

Though his words were hard, his tone was very soft; he'd actually been more worried than he was impatient. Ordinarily, his wife and daughter were more punctual, and the fact it was taking them so long could mean only one of two things:

First, they could be preparing to make a surprise, dramatic entrance, one which would leave the guests rather stunned but also impressed. A way which would in itself be embarrassing to him, but he'd later appreciate for their creativity and their boldness.

The second possibility was that they were planning a creative, if hurtful prank on him or his guests and would later make him lambast them for, only to end up regretful for shouting...and sleeping on the couch again.

"Is she hot?"

Prince Zerin walked into the gardens where the party was to be held in nothing more than a rather simple tuxedo he had been able to get his hands on back when was in Ixania and his hands were dug into his pockets while he carried a box in his hands which carried a gift for the Princess which he was to offer under the auspieces of good will towards her family and best wishes for the many years she hopefully would be allotted. He didn't see Abby immediately but he just assumed she was freshening up and thus he would have to wait. He knew how women wanted to make themselves look ever the more presentable especially when they were made able to legally married. Didn't Abby expect men to be after her hand during her birthday party? Zerin didn't feel like he would be one of those men but he wouldn't mind seeing if marrying her was a worthwhile venture in his book. He put the gift on what looked like a table of gifts and took the time to walk around the gardens so as to make sure he knew everything about it. His hands were dug into his pockets as he walked with an aura of rigid individualism around him; he wasn't one of those snobbish princes one may commonly believe to be the most prevalent type of his kind in the world but rather he looked like an average young man or one of those teenage commoners that would loiter at times in Ixania's many public places but he still had the countenance of a prince and still looked modest enough to be well liked. Zerin noticed the Emperor in the distance and went towards him; bowing to him about several paces from where he stood with a smile upon his face and with his words being spoken in a refined tone.

"...Most excellent Majesty, it is a pleasure to be here to celebrate the anniversary of your lovely daughter's birth into this world and might I say that you certainly have made this ballroom look exquisite for the occassion. I am Prince Zerin of the Ixanian Empire who has apparently has caught much attention in your realm. While we wait for your daughter, perhaps we can discuss things?"

When the younger man had finished speaking, the Emperor nodded. "Indeed, I have been eager to learn more about your beloved country."

Zerin smiled. "I'd be more than happy to tell you about the Ixanian Empire but I'll give you a summary rather than a prolonged discourse about what my nation is like. It saves us much time, don't you think? The Ixanian Empire, as the histories relate, is a centuries old nation that was founded out of chaos and discord by Leto the Great who is our nation's foremost hero and who is a direct ancestor of my cousin, the Empress of Ixania, who unfortunately could not attend this party although she instructed me to bring your daughter a gift on her behalf which I, in fact, have done. The Ixanian Empire has a rich and vibrant mythology which has survived despite the mass conversion to Orthodox Christianity and we are well known around the world for our friendliness and neutrality in foreign conflicts. I'm sure you've heard of us in that regard? I've called it Ixanianism, the philosophy of being an observer in the world. We also have plenty of colonies with our newest addition being the Fort Anastasia Territories in a strange chain of islands called Terra Australis Isabella which was discovered by the Empress of the Ryou's subjects according to what I have read. We are an absolute monarchy but are proud supporters of the human rights to which all subjects regardless of status are entitled to have and which some nations are unable to enjoy due to the beliefs of their governments. We also have a rich culture, a well kept economy and plenty of historical landmarks. Ixanian pride is a widespread concept in our nation. I would, indeed, be interested in learning more about your nation, Your Majesty, and indeed I am eager to meet your daughter whose beauty, I am sure, must enshroud the senses of many men of the land. After all, not all men are immune to the swaying of the female form."

Zerin smirked. "....I do hope to have a good time here, I must say, and I hope the gifts I have brought will satisfy thy daughter well and that she will treasure them. By the way, I must say that the Ixanian Empire wishes to have diplomatic relations with your nation. I won't be getting too much into diplomacy tonight...so you can just contact Ivan Rucinsky, the Foreign Minister, for more information concerning this. He's the wisest diplomat in the land."

"Fascinating," The Emperor said in a low voice; "I knew your nation was special, but it seems I was underestimating you." He said, turning fully towards the younger man with a look of satisfaction.

"Our countries are siblings in the fashion we were founded; my ancestor, Mathias Geschke, came to this place from a distant land over a thousand years ago." The Emperor said; bringing his right arm in a sweeping gesture across the party.

"He was an explorer, and he traded with the locals of this place. He soon founded a colony here, on the eastern shores; with time, it prospered." Nicholas paused just long enough to clear his throat, allowing his deep voice a moment to recover.

"After a long war with an invading country, the foreign place which Mathias came from was in desperate need of money. So, to alleviate this, the other nation sold the land to my family and allowed him to rule as King." The Emperor then turned and pointed towards the flag draped over both the table and over the front part of the Palace gates.

It consisted of a single black star in a blue field, with twelve green and red stripes running side-to-side in a fashion similar to the flag of the United States. "This is our flag; the star represents the mysteries of God; the stripes are the twelve disciples of Christ. It is customary for the Royal family members to be of the Eastern Orthodox faith, but this rule has lessened in later years."

"After Mathias passed away, his child took over as the new ruler. The line has continued unchecked for the past thousand years. In line of succession, my father was the first Emperor, but also was the 123rd King." He explained. The Emperor looked upwards towards the Palace with a sense of pride, "And my little Princess will someday be the 125th ruler of our land."

Then, Nicholas' expression turned serious, "If you and Abby wed, then you will have to convert to Orthodoxy..." He paused, but then he smiled, "But you only need to officially do so, you may be agnostic as long as you respect the sanctity of the Church."

The Emperor walked, arms folded behind his back towards the door and out back into the party, Zerin following him. One of the guards then came up to him, bowing low before he rose up and whispered something to the Emperor. Slowly, the older man's expression changed to that of a sly grin.

Nicholas turned to Zerin, "My boy; I'm afraid we'll have to postpone our discussion of forming an alliance to another time." He said, "Abby shall be entering after her mother."

Turning his head towards the Palace's entrance, he gave a nod to the guards standing in front of the double doors. Both of them grasped one part of the doors and opened them widely, allowing Empress Rachel to walk through. The guests at the party cheered and applauded wildly.

"Announcing, her Imperial Majesty, Empress Rachel Geschke!"

She was a woman somewhere in her early 40's, yet still held the fire in her green eyes and curvaceous figure that showed off her authority; she wore a bright, crimson dress that showed her lean, curvaceous figure. Her long, straight brown hair was tied back into a ponytail with a red ribbon. Nicholas' heart skipped a beat as he watched the younger female emerge behind the Empress.

"Announcing her Imperial Highness, Crown Princess Abigail Geschke!"

It was Abby, and the moment she had stepped down the stairs, everyone stopped what they were doing and watched her as she descended the stairs with her mother.

She was beautiful, one worthy of royalty: Though she appeared very similarly to her mother, she instead wore her hair straight back with a silver tiara sitting delicately atop her head. The Princess also was wearing a blue dress that conflicted with her mother's coloring, but it still made her look good.

Empress Rachel walked towards her husband and embraced him tightly; hot love burnt through her heart as she felt his strong arms wrap around her. The two of them released each other as the Princess came up and hugged her father.

Then, as the family turned towards Zerin, Abby's green eyes widened as she looked upon the Prince. "Abby, Rachel, this is Prince Zerin of the Ixanian Empire." The Emperor said as he gently grasped Abigail and Zerin's wrists and guided their hands together.

"Hello Prince Zerin," Abby said innocently, "I'm Princess Abigail, but you can call me Abby." She smiled as she put her other hand over Zerin's.

"Fascinating," The Emperor said in a low voice; "I knew your nation was special, but it seems I was underestimating you." He said, turning fully towards the younger man with a look of satisfaction.

Zerin smiled. "....Feel free to ask questions about the Ixanian Empire, Your Majesty."

"Our countries are siblings in the fashion we were founded; my ancestor, Mathias Geschke, came to this place from a distant land over a thousand years ago." The Emperor said; bringing his right arm in a sweeping gesture across the party.

"...Was Mathias of German ancestry? The Empress of Ixania has a German mother who is one of many Germans who live in the Ixanian Empire and they all have been accepted with open arms. I must say that I have no German blood in me. Only the Empress' branch has the German blood."

"He was an explorer, and he traded with the locals of this place. He soon founded a colony here, on the eastern shores; with time, it prospered." Nicholas paused just long enough to clear his throat, allowing his deep voice a moment to recover.

"...He sounds like an interesting person and I wouldn't mind learning more about him. I am sure there are books about him that you can recommend for me to read."

"After a long war with an invading country, the foreign place which Mathias came from was in desperate need of money. So, to alleviate this, the other nation sold the land to my family and allowed him to rule as King." The Emperor then turned and pointed towards the flag draped over both the table and over the front part of the Palace gates.

"...I suppose that he was a good ruler and that his descendants, his successors, varied in terms of virtue and style of government?"

"....The Ixanian Empire has been an Orthodox nation for centuries but we also have many Lutherans as a result of German settlement over the course of our history; many of my family's members are versed to some extent in religion as well. The Empress, I recall, was blessed by Orthodox priests at birth. She is, indeed, one of my many cousins."

"...The House of Leto reigned for many centuries after Leto the Great's death and it was a marriage between one of his direct descendants with a member of the House of Schverzinski that propelled my family to power as the Imperial Family of Ixania. We are the Empire's second dynasty to reign, in fact. I also hope your daughter has a good and prosperous reign."

Then, Nicholas' expression turned serious, "If you and Abby wed, then you will have to convert to Orthodoxy..." He paused, but then he smiled, "But you only need to officially do so, you may be agnostic as long as you respect the sanctity of the Church."

Zerin smiled. "....I will do what needs to be done should I be chosen to wed thy daughter and I have always paid respect to the Church regardless of my beliefs concerning the Divine. If I do not convert, be assured that I will always respect the sanctity of the Orthodox Church. It is, after all, a virtue of my family to be tolerant of religions even if you don't believe in them."

Zerin smiled as he watched the Empress come into sight; he felt she was quite the attractive woman and he made a mental note to know her better since she may end up being his mother-in-law in the near future. Although he was a bit focused on Rachel, he really wanted to see Abigail. Perhaps, he thought, Abby would have inherited her mother's looks.

Zerin was astounded at the beauty of Abigail Geschke. She looked marvelous! Zerin felt himself consumed by an instant attraction to the maiden but he didn't let it show outwardly as he restrained it. It was not in his nature to drool over a woman in public but rather he mentally drooled over them. Zerin did have a fondness for women, yes, but seeing Abigail made him feel like putting her among the best of the best but, then again, Rachel was also there. He never had a problem with doing that with much older women.

Zerin did not expect to have his hand put with Abby's by his father but he did not mind it. He simply assumed that he must have been the favored suitor for the fair maiden of the Geschke clan and he really did think that Abigail was an attractive young woman. "It is a pleasure to meet you at last, Princess Abby and might I say that you look amazing tonight. You must have been graced with your mother's looks for both of you look like twins or, at least, like equally gorgeous nymphs."

Zerin smiled at Abby before taking a brief look at her parents to see their reaction. He didn't want to appear like he was really attracted to Rachel Geschke because he didn't dare want to ruin people's marriages. Instead, he turned his entire attention towards Abigail. "I brought a gift for you from myself and one from my cousin, the Empress of Ixania. I can take you to them if you like. I would also love to learn more about you, Abby, and you may ask questions about me at your leisure."

Zerin didn't think much about marriage, at first, but he didn't think that it was something to avoid. He was willing to give Abigail a chance and willing, as well, to refuse her if she wasn't all that good as he was told.

She seemed to catch his drift as she soon followed him, wrapping her arm around his as they walked back up towards the Palace, leaving the Prince and Princess alone.

Zerin didn't have a hard time understanding the main reason why Nicholas and Rachel departed from his presence and assumed they were really hoping that he would become the soulmate of their precious little girl. That was a prospect, Zerin knew, that he was willing to entertain.

"I wonder sometimes what it's like to be able to influence people like daddy does." She said, "He says the best trait for a leader is to put the interests of our people before my own."

What Abby was asking was how she could best influence her people if she were in her father's position. Which, as the Crown Princess was her destiny, though her main concern was towards her people's future first, Abby also was excited to say the least at that which her position would give her.

The Empress shook hands with the Lieutenant, "How do you do."

"Lieutenant James Walker Imperial Army and no you were busy there for i was waiting till you made your rounds of the guest's"said James as he saluted back before his hand was taken by the Empress as she shook it

"How do you do."

OOC: I shall not be posting this weekend much due to an upcoming medical matter that needs more attention than NationStates does. However, I shall post when I am able to afterwards.

"I love music, and I love to make people laugh." Abby said sweetly, "But I do also love to just have fun, do things that normal people do." She said the final part with a hint of longing, her expression turned to one of curiosity.

"....Make people laugh? Can I assume you are a comedian when not acting like a princess? As for music, do you have any particular kind you are most fond of? Abby...you shouldn't think that you aren't normal. All of us are humans whether we are the sons and daughters of great monarchs or the sisters and brothers of vagrants. I don't think being royalty makes us abnormal."

"I wonder sometimes what it's like to be able to influence people like daddy does." She said, "He says the best trait for a leader is to put the interests of our people before my own."

"...Then he should weep at the sight of those leaders who do not have that trait. The ideal ruler is one who puts the interests of the people first and then his or her own. As long as you do not forget about the people, everything should go well in your reign. The people, Abby, are the backbone of the nation. It is they who shape the nation. A government leads but the people act."

Zerin smiled. "....The Empress has always tried to be supportive of the people and she has always tried to listen to them even if she finds their ideas to be absurd and even idiotic but to listen to them gives them the idea that she cares about their welfare which is, indeed, a proper thing for any leader to do whether he or she is royal or not. My cousin, the Empress, enjoys the support of the vast majority of the population and she is well respected, I am sure, by the leaders of other nations. It is a well known fact that Anastasia once brokered peace between the Ryou and the Romans and it is well known that she had become quite the colonialist which no one expected. I don't even think she expected it herself but she hasn't shown any signs she's willing to forsake colonialism. Indeed, we Ixanians have plenty of colonies but we treat the colonists and the natives, if there are any, well. I've always heard about stuff like this even if I try not to get so...engaged in politics like Anastasia does; Anastasia being the name of my cousin."

Zerin pulled out a little coin and pointed at the image of Anastasia's head that was on it. ".....All coins have the head of our Empress upon them in honor and recognition of her reign. It is a tradition to do this for any monarch we may have including those who we may not agree with although, thankfully, we have not really had any....bad monarchs...if you get my drift, Abby. Anastasia has, as well, sent you a gift. She would have come here herself but she was unable to do so due to political matters but she wishes you all the best. She remembers when she was your age, she told me....back when she was being groomed for the role of monarch."

"I was merely entertaining a foreign diplomat and a growing friend of my daughter." Nicholas explained, flashing towards the Prince and Princess. Though he did indeed want his daughter to be happy, he wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, and it was rather rude of him to not pay attention to all of his guests.

Like any father, the Emperor wanted his child to grow and be happy, but if she rejected this man like all the other suitors, then he'd have to accept it. A rather interesting discussion he'd had with his wife recently was how Abigail was so young and had already started dating. Though she'd not entirely aggreed to it, Rachel gave her consent to the Princess having someone to be with.

Of course, this whole party served a double purpose; first to celebrate the sixteenth anniversary of his beloved daughter's coming into the world, and to experminent into Abigail's taste in men. If this Prince Zerin was all that he expected, then he had one less matter to worry about when it came to his little Princess.

Though he knew Zerin too was Human, and therefore, he also wanted to make sure he had his consent as well. The only way the Emperor would accept Abigail pairing with the boy was if they both aggreed to it; both he and Abby.

Returning to the matter at hand, he looked at the young Lieutenant, "Have you been in combat recently, Lieutenant?" The Emperor asked, examining the much younger man's arm with almost tender concern in a rather gentle voice. Empress Rachel looked at her husband in a way that bordered on examination, as though she were trying to see right through him.

Though he was a monarch, and a well-approved one at that, something that she'd realized from the day she'd met him to the day she married him, was that Nicholas paid too much attention to others than to himself. The Empress watched as Nicholas stood regally, yet close enough to the Military officer so-as to examine him.

"I guess, its that kind spirit that I fell in love with." The Empress thought as she watched her spouse turn his attention towards her. "Is something wrong Rachel?" He asked her, "No dear." She said quietly, "I'm just wondering if the young Lieutenant here would like to tell some more about his nation." She lied.

The Emperor nodded, "Indeed; I am fascinated by other cultures, and it is widely encouraged here in the Empire to share knowledge."

The Princess had listened in to every word he'd spoken, clearly this man wasn't like the other suitors. He wasn't afraid to voice his beliefs, and he showed her proper manners, even though it didn't seem like he was doing it to gain favor. Rather, from the way he'd spoken, from the way he'd acted thus far, it seemed as if it were entirely out of the kindness of his heart. She had noticed the gift he'd given her, and she truly did appreciate being given gifts, but it wasn't the present that she focused her attention on.

The words he'd spoken about being a leader, how it had make her think; slowly but surely, it was supplanting the spoiled and stubborn thoughts she originally had.

"Maybe...a true leader can find compromise between their own interests...and that of their people...maybe." The Princess' thoughts were. "I see: Your cousin sounds interesting." She said aloud, "Though from your description, she sounds like she had to grow up quickly." Part of her tone was that of someone who genuinely cared about others.

The fact that Anastasia, as he'd said, was the leader of a mighty nation definetly sounded hard, but to do so in such a way as he'd described made for someone who reminded the Princess of her father.

When Zerin had spoke of how her father should weep over leaders without that trait, she nodded. Nicholas did have to make some tough decisions sometimes, especially when everyone in the country depended on him to be so perfect, so glorious.

The whole thing made Abby think quite a bit; being a ruler was hard, but seeing her people smile meant that her father was doing a good job.

"I should sometime like to meet with her Majesty." Abigail said when Zerin was finished, "But right now: Would you like to dance with me?" She offered, extending her hand out to him with a sweet smile.

She said aloud, "Though from your description, she sounds like she had to grow up quickly." Part of her tone was that of someone who genuinely cared about others.

"....A leader can surely find compromise but he must always rely upon politically rational judgment and thought when making his or her decisions concerning the nation. As for my cousin, she was able to have a childhood but she just had to spend much of her time being brought up in royal etiquette and what not so that she would be a good monarch for the Ixanian Empire. Her father, I believe, simply wanted to make sure the Empire was in good hands when he died."

"....I am sure it would not be a problem for you to meet Her Majesty at all."

Zerin took Abigail's hand and walked with her to what looked like the part of the garden cordoned off as the dance floor. "....I do look forward to dancing with you, Abby. I'm pretty sure you are a graceful dancer!"
