The Colonies seemed to be caught in a never-ending wave of troubles in recent years. The ending of the Great War and the destruction caused therein left the Colonies in a dangerously weakened state, even for one of their inferior technology. The newly formed Colonial Senate and the first president of the Colonies, Arthur Kerrington, were enacting programs to rebuild the infrastructure, restore basic needs for many without them, and to restart the economy of the Colonies. They were meeting success, but not as much as they normally could due to the need of the military to develop technology to protect the Colonies.

Again, success was being met, but it was slow and trouble was brewing in the galaxy. Worries spiked in the Colonies as a destroyer encountered a destroyer ship of another nation at a planet, while another ship vanished on a test run of the new drive. And the ever present worry of nations like Mekanta that could attack them at any moment. They were securing relations with them simply because they had no choice. They needed strong allies to protect them during their period of weakness, and the ESUS fulfilled that niche very well. They had other problems which, while not being as glaring as the others, were requiring the military to step in.

As in this case near Neptune, they had to deal with piracy.

"Incoming enemy missiles in sector five!"

"Have PD sections six and three target those missiles. Status on the pirate force?"

The sensor officer hands washed over the keyboard in their search of the data, as the main screen showed the exchange of weapons fire. "One frigate is badly damaged, the other is limping. The destroyer is still holding us off."

Captain Ryan Daily turned his gaze to the screen. He had brought a force of one UCS cruiser, his ship, the Waking Dream, along with two frigates and a single Missile Frigate. They had been given a debriefing by Naval Intelligence on the routes of one group of pirates selling technology on the black market and they wanted it gone. So, they had lain in wait until the pirates had come in to make a deal and attacked. Now, here they were.

A flock of Wasp interceptors shot past, as flaming wrecks of pirate fighters spun off into fireballs. Railgun shots and constant streams of EMP and nuclear missiles were slamming into the pirate ships. The effects were becoming evident. One frigate was stuttering, its engines flickering as the damage strained its systems, the other struggled to turn. The pirate destroyer, however, was holding its own. The Waking Dream was moving to intercept and deal some serious damage to it.

"Have both the frigates target the still active pirate ship, and leave the Missile Frigate to finish off the dying one. When it has been sufficiently neutralized, have them begin boarding procedures. We will go after the destroyer."

"Yes sir."

The cruiser's engines ignited and shot past the small task force, it's weapons locking onto the destroyer. The pirate captain must have realized what he was planning, though, as the ship began to turn. Sensors were indicating a build-up of energy and the familiar disturbances in space that showed it was attempting to jump. Gritting his teeth, Ryan watched as the wormhole opened and the ship shot into it, heading to some unknown coordinate.

"Into that wormhole! Follow them!" The Waking Dream plunged into the gate, not knowing where the destination was, never realizing what would occur on the other side....

Core Territories, Coruscant

Coruscant, the heart of the Empire. Possible the most heavily defended world known in the galaxy and it was about to get thrown for a loop. The wormhole generated by the destroyer sent the electronic version of a scream, showing everyone that something was going on. The destroyer shot through, the captain breathing a sigh of relief. Thank goodness he had found this random coordinate on the body of a dealer whom had double-crossed him. His relief was cut short when proximity alarms blared and his rear camera screen was filled with the threatening visage of the Colonial cruiser.

"Pirate ship, you will surrender your ship now and power down all systems. Failure to do so will result in your destruction."

Their answer came in the form of launching fighters and railgun shots. Ryan grimaced. "Full speed ahead, all guns fire at will."
