History
In 523 BCE, the city of Hellen was founded by refugees of a town that was hit by a plague. The first few years were harsh for the inhabitants, who were also constantly fighting with their neighbor, Anticom, over disputed land. Five years after the founding of the city, a Republic was born. By the end of the year, the Republic had collapsed due to corruption and a plague that killed a quarter of the population.
In later 514 BCE, the Hellen army scored their greatest victory over their neighbor, Anticom. The small city was soon over-run and it was taken into the kingdom. During this time, Hellen became wealthy from the emerging trade with nearby city states. After reasons unknown, the Kingdom was somehow at war with its other neighbor.
The first year of the war was marked by a string of defeats on Hellen. More and more civilians were drafted to join the military, which nearly inflicted a rebellion on Hellen. But it had its results, by the end of the second year, five different enemy armies were prevented from invading the city itself. This was due to the courageous work of the civilians who constructed a stone wall in a valley, delaying the enemy from entering the city. Soon afterward, the two city states signed a peace treaty that lasts to this day.
Many civilians in the military left and the few reformed the military. The city once again regained its former glory and a wall was built around the city symbolizing it. New massive temples and Palaces were built, and Hellen entered a era of peace. In 441 BCE, King Terneria experimented with republic ideas, with disastrous results. King Terneria was soon removed from power by a rebellion, and they appointed a rebel called Narious as King.
King Narious focused most of his administration on the military. The military was reformed again and turned into an excellent military force. The Navy was expanded, and now pirates that once ruled the seas were encountered by Helleni Naval ships.
King Narious's son, Prince Sirus, inherited a kingdom after his father died in 405 BCE. He is the current ruler of Hellen.
Society
Occasionally, the King would visit a market, to greet people and even buy things. Normally a King is very popular this way. The King is also treated as a god, and after he dies, a temple is built in honor of him.
Hellen is a peaceful nation, but is a little militaristic. If you are in the military, you have privileges and influence. This is another way to further your career by joining the military.
The top people in the city are normally the elite of the city, including King, and his Ministers (Plus Generals). The second are normally soldiers and working class people. Third are foreigners, who are normally viewed with suspicion by the population. Fourth are slaves, who are the lowest of the city. They cannot leave the city without permission of its master or a guard, and they cannot marry non-slaves.
Military
The largest part of the military are infantry. The elite of the infantry are heavy infantry hoplites) who specialize in combating other enemy infantry. They are equipped with the same equipment and are trained to form phalanxes when fighting other enemy infantry. Their standard helmets are Helleni helmets (Corinthian helmet) and normally are armed with one long spear, one sword, one knife.
Infantry: 2,000
Heavy Infantry: 1,000
Archers are plentiful, and are trained to fight with the Helleni infantry on the battlefield. They normally are armed with a bow, and for close quarters combat, a short sword.
Archers: 500
Cavalry are another part of the army, but they are the most elite, well armed and equipped. They can hit enemy forces hard, like lighting. The calvary also has cavalry archers who serve with the cavalry.
