History
In 521 BCE, a battalion of soldiers from the Stoklomolvi Empire sailed for several years before finally reaching a random island in seemingly the middle of nowhere. Having been deprived of good food for a long, long time as they foraged along coasts, the soldiers were glad to have reached the island. The island was somewhat hostile, and in late 516 BCE the Stoklomolvi soldiers were forced to retreat back onto their ships and sailed onwards, away from the island. Their settlement was burnt down by the natives. At sea, native warships shot at them, destroying many of their own warships and damaging their transports. They were forced to land at the base of a large cliff, where they marched upwards.

Soon after, in early 512 BCE, the soldiers finally established a camp on the cliff, and named their settlement to be reminiscent of the old empire, the Imperivm Stoclomovivm. The soldiers interbred with the native population that was miraculously similar to the population back at home, and the small settlement grew larger daily. Slowly, stone was mined from the sides of nearby cliffs, and a palisade wall was constructed to keep the bears out of the settlement. A great fire consumed half of the camp due to a cooking accident, killing some soldiers and destroying many tents, and this was made worse by the bears that made it through the palisade wall. Fortunately, the records for the settlement survived, and it is assumed that the camp was rebuilt using intricately carved stone that fit together perfectly without mortar. Later examinations revealed that mortar was indeed used.

As the years went on, the settlement grew as both immigrants and new births contributed to the burgeoning population. Fruit, the main source of sustenance in the beginning, started to be complemented by grain farming as well, and these reliable sources of food sustained the population with a large surplus. In 486 BCE, the Imperivm was invaded by another city-state to the east, which soon collapsed on itself due to reasons unknown. The sons of the soldiers who first arrived fought gallantly, and eventually the majority of the enemy soldiers were enslaved, contributing thousands of new people to the settlement. The slaves were soon freed.

445 BCE was the year that the last soldier from the initial landing died. A great funeral was held in honour of all of the soldiers, and many felt that Jupiter smiled upon them after a great harvest and a sudden appearance of many a great weapon smith. The main export of the Imperivm turned out to be weapons, and the people of the Imperivm grew wealthier. Great temples were constructed to the patron god, Jupiter, and the shining city of the Imperivm stood proudly over the surrounding countryside as a great beacon to ships from abroad. The soft beaches below the cliff were built upon as a harbour rose from the earth, labourers toiling each day to build a location of hospitality for foreign traders. The warships of old, long rotted and ruined, were buried at the bottom of the sea, and new triremes were built at the harbour.

In 405 BCE, time seemed to stop, as torrential rain poured on the settlement, drenching the fields and nearly collapsing several houses. The harbour flooded, and hundreds of people died by drowning as rain seemed to never stop falling. It was after several weeks that the rain stopped, the fields ruined, and the temples dirtied. Many sacrifices were performed to Jupiter in hopes that the settlement could be rebuilt, and eventually the settlement was reconstructed. By 400 BCE, the city was returned to its former glory, albeit a bit less wealthy.

Society

The society of the Imperivm is extremely militaristic, with nearly all events that happen related to the military in some way. Naturally, the god Mars is only slightly less important than Jupiter, though Jupiter is recognised to hold more power than Mars. Soldiers give offerings to Mars and Vesta before each meal, placing him at the same rank of importance as the Goddess of the Home. Usually, however, soldiers go into battle with the assumption that Mars is behind them as long as they make the sacrifice of one foreigner or slave.

Females in the Imperivm are regarded just as highly as men. While there are fewer female soldiers than there are male, females do form a considerable portion of the command chain. Still, since the people of the Imperivm regard manpower and training as the top two importances in society, a large number of females also stay home and make children. The unfit children, such as those with severe mental disabilities or physical disorders, are thrown from the cliff onto the crags below. The children with minor disabilities, such as retardation, are put to work completing manual labour, but are not considered "normal" by society.

Worship of the gods is regarded as one of the most important activities that a person can complete in one day. Jupiter, the patron god, and Mars, the god of war, are the two most important gods, though all other gods are worshipped as well. One notable difference in religion from the mainstream is that Saturn, the god of agriculture, is generally more important than some of the other gods, such as Mercury. This is largely due in part to the fact that the Imperivm is completely cut off from the Empire of Stoklomolvi, and the people of the Imperivm, who under normal circumstances would rely on imports from the homeland, are self-reliant.

The social pyramid is quite simple in the Imperivm. On the top tier lie the ruling elite, who consist of the Monarch and the Senators. On the second tier are the soldiers, who include infantry, generals, and everyone in between. The third tier consists of the working people of society, essentially the proletariat of today. The bottom tier includes the enslaved and foreigners, as foreigners are met with suspicion and slaves are naturally regarded as the lowest of the low. Slaves can only be freed by a decree or by their masters, cannot marry those who are not enslaved, and are not allowed to leave the city.

Military

The Stoclomolvi military is a large and elite fighting force that makes up a considerable portion of the population of the city. The actual structure is quite complex, though for the most part soldiers are separated from mainstream society. Soldiers can participate in Senatorial discussions and decision-making, though cannot actually vote for any proposals and have no influence whatsoever should the Monarch become involved.

The bulk of the Stoclomolvi military is formed up by the heavy infantry, which include the principes and triarii. Principes, commonly referred to as the "principal infantry," are far larger in number than the veteran triarii, or "heavy spearmen" in the colloquial. Since the triarii are few in number, they form phalanxes when charging into battle, and in the early days of the Stoklomolvi Empire triarii were some of the most used infantry due to their effectiveness in both morale and physical attack. Principes are the general infantry, each soldier equipped with a heavy gladius and scutum. Principes are known for their extensive use of the testudo formation, often accompanied by spears jutting out in all directions to form a "spiked turtle." However, the formation is either extremely slow moving or stationary, though the effect on enemy morale to know that any attack would be useless is rather devastating.

A smaller but still large portion consists of the velites, who are light infantry skilled in archery. The typical weapon used is the composite bow, and the velites bombard their foes from a large distance. However, good composite bows are quite expensive, and thus only the more wealthy can afford to become archers. The majority of the velites are all from the third class; working men and women who join the military but cannot afford proper equipment are given light swords and javelins. These poorer velites charge to the front, throw their javelins, and then retreat to await the heavy attack by the main infantry.

The smallest section of the Stoclomolvi military is the cavalry. Most cavalrymen are highly trained, wealthy elites who think of war as nothing more than a game. Typically, the cavalry hide behind locations that the enemy will march past, and when the main army is engaging the enemy the cavalry appear and trample the flanks of the enemy formations. Due to the heavy armour of the cavalry, it can be likely that no casualties are sustained at all, though should more than a few deaths occur the cavalry will retreat. The elite cavalry have very fragile morale. A smaller portion of the cavalry are the light cavalry, poor peasants who feel that it is glorious to fight for their city. These light peasant cavalry appear to charge the enemy and then retreat before reaching the enemy, and then turning around to deliver a "Parthian shot." While poor, the light cavalry actually have higher morale than the heavy cavalry, since they actually fight for something.

Since the people from Stoclomolvi were originally from the very advanced Stoklomolvi Empire thousands of kilometres away, they brought with them their knowledge of advanced siege weapons. While few in number, these monstrous machines can inflict massive terror in the enemy, since the largest siege engine could lob stones that weighed several dozen kilogrammes. More often than not, ballistae and onagers were used in battle. Engineers are very prised, and form one of the top tiers of the Army of the Imperivm.

A messenger rode towards the city of Stoclomolvivm. The city was - well different. It was somewhat Greek in nature, but not pure Hellenistic in style. It appeared to have a more Western style to it, something he had not seen before. Nevertheless he rode onwards to the main gates, where he stopped, waiting to be addressed by the guards.

Nice factbook Stok. I've only got a few bones to pick about it:

1) Roman culture had no influence on Greek culture until the late 2nd and early 1st Century B.C. due in part to the Punic Wars. We're hundreds of years before that exchange happens. So if possible, change your language to Greek, your god's names to the Greek versions, and that's it.

2) Your money. I know you primarily rp soviet-esque nations a lot, but please, please change your money to something similar to Ancient Greek coinage.

3) Again, concerning the Roman aspect of your military, there was no real such division amongst the greek militaries of the time; aka no princeps, triarii, or velites (peltasts for Greeks, cheer, cheer). Also the term Auxiliary in a military fashion wasn't used until the late 1st Century A.D. to make a clearer divide between Roman citizens and non-citizens in the armies of Rome.

Other than that mate, you're ship-shape.

My people came from Stoklomolvi to relate it to my NS nation, or else this RP will not work due to the rules. It's not really whether or not I want it to be Roman or Greek.

Stok. Our rp is already within the acceptable realms of the NS forums. I've been a part of such rp's as this for the better part of about three years. So believe when I say that that's a bullshit excuse. I don't want you to think I'm being an ass here. Simply saying that that is a sorry excuse. If you want it to fit your NS nation, fine, but it still needs to be changed. You can make the excuse that, eventually, after the events of this RP, that it changes to how you have it now. But for our purposes, you need to change it. Unless of course TWSP doesn't think any of what I brought up is a problem. If that is the case then I will cede the point.

I've gotten paranoid over what's in NS and what's not. A past thing about "Warhammer" or "Star Trek" has been subject of furious debate, and threads about both have been closed. But hey, realism prevails, I suppose. I'll edit stuff later, and maybe add a whopping two ships to my awesome divided by zero navy.

Thanks for understand man. I appreciate it. You're a good roleplayer and an even better man for ceding the point unlike some others *cou-CA-gh*.

Thanks. ^^ To address your points now,

1) Will do. Culture is not as much a matter as other things.

2) Gold coin? Drachmas? The Persian currency?

3) I'll just change the names around. Principes -> hoplite, Triarii -> heavy spearman or something, composite bowmen -> composite bowmen, Velite -> peltast, Elite Equite -> elite cavalry, Auxiliary Equite -> light cavalry, ballistae -> scorpion, onager -> onager, trireme -> trireme. Sound fine? They will be rather mixed, as to avoid strict divisions.

What should I do to my history? I'm going to have to rewrite that, it seems.

1- np
2- just settle for drachma and decide the weight and such for your own, or you can use my currency, which would, in a way, increase my trade influence
3-sounds good.
