The new Arch Aristocra, Johnathon Achillies sits in his palatial office in the Palace of Nobility reading reports on recent attacks by the Island Principality of Ephebia. "Damn Ephebians!" he says angrily, slamming the reports down on his desk. "These reports, ladies and gentlemken, show that the Ephebians have increased their piracy on Juntastan shipping by 50%! This is utterly unacceptable!"
In the office sits both leading officers of The Sentinel, Juntastan's intelligence organization , The Department of Spiritual Defense and the head officers of the various branches of the Juntastan Self Defense Force.
"Gentlemen, we can NOT allow these pirates to continue to raid ships on their way to the West Coast! The West coast, may I remind you, is the sole open ports to trade with the rest of the world! Why" he says pointing to the reports" they actually raided a shipment of automobiles from Hephaestus Motors! Stole the ship and the autos as well!"
An officer from the Department of Spiritual Defense speaks up. "Arch Aristocra, we have discovered that the Ephebians are sheltering missionaries from various foreign nations that have been plauging us. We also have reason to believe that the missionaries are actually pawandah foreign spies"
Steepling his fingers, the Arch Aristocra takes on a pensive look. "Well, gentlemen, what are our options ?" An officer from the Juntastan Self Defense Fleet speaks up " Your Excellency, I suggest we lay siege to the Ephebian Archipelago and forcibly annex the Prinicipate. As you know, we have the resources to do so. If the Council agrees, and you see fit to do it, we can begin surveilling The Island Prinicipate of Ephebia for the purpose of a military operation."
"Do so. Contact the Leading Families and also the Council of Citizens and pull whatever strings you need to get it passed. I expect The Sentinel to begin gathering intelligence on the Archipelago, and for the Self Defense Fleet, Air Force and The Army to begin preparing to stage operations off the coast of the Archipelago. Also, I wish for The 300 (Juntastan Special Forces) to be inserted into the Archipelago and use the intelligence The Sentinel provides to prepare to strike at their C&C (Command & Control) facilities, electricity plants and water.
Gentleman, this will not be an easy fight. The Ephebians will not like us annexing the Archipelago. But since the Archipelago split off from Juntastan, there has been nothing but problems. It is time that Juntastan be reunified under our leadership. The Great Divorce that led to us going our seperate ways must end, and end now! Classify the operation as Top Secret and give it the designation Operation Reunification. That is all, gentlemen. You dismissed."

Sattelite reconassiance over the nation of Junstatan Ascendancy has noted a increase in all aspects of their military activity. The Junstatanian Navy has been conducting unusually large amounts of live-fire excercises, a unusual number of Junstatanian ground forces have been moved into ports, and the Junstatanian air force has been giving its pilots more flight time then usual. These, and other activities-such as increased wireless traffic, indicate a ramping up of general military readiness against the Junstatan Ascendancy. Historically, such activities have either been the precursors to either war or a very-large scale military exercise. Given that there has been no announcement of the latter, one can only assume that they are preparing to go to war.

Given the largely none-threat the Junstatan Ascendancies military poses to the State's mainland, and indeed the world as a whole, we can only assume they are preparing to fight a regional opponent. The nation of Ephebia, which is a breakaway region from the Junstatan Ascendancy, is the most likely target. The Ephebia archipelego has been vital to Intelligence Commissariat operations in the area. It has also been a staging area for an increasing number of pirate attacks on Junstatanian shipping.

Due to the nature of their culture and religion, the Intelligence Commissariat currently has no 'in-the-field' operatives or agents operating in the Junstatanian interior, government, or military. A number of Commissariat operatives disguised as businessmen have been operating on port cities that the Junstatanians have 'set-aside' specifically for trading with the rest of the international community.

The Intelligence Commissariat will continue to monitor the situation in the region. At this time, the Commissariat recommends that no action be takena against the Junstatan Ascendancy, as it is the Commissariat's opinion that the Junstatanian Ascendancy is merely about to conduct large scale military exercises.

OOC: And before you complain, all such activities are something any competent military would do when preparing for war.

Although I suppose you could rush into it without ramping up your readiness, but if you do that, your military will take alot of casualties and be ineffective.

Surface Action Group (SAG) Golf
On patrol near Juntastanian waters

SAG Golf, made up of three Type 46 DDGNs, had been on routine patrols in the area for nearly four weeks. Long range patrols were usually rather uneventful, the ships spent most of the time chasing pirates and escorting convoys. So far this patrol had started out the same way, but that was about to change.

The FLASH Traffic came in at about 0400, reporting that the Juntastanian military had entered into a heightened readiness cycle and that the proability that armd action would undertaken against Ephebia was rated "Very High".

The group's orders were to relocate closer to Juntastanian waters and attempt to gather further ELINT and to keep an eye on things. The destroyers obiviously lacked the capabilities of a carrier battle group but they were more than capable of defending themselves. For now they were the only Tolvanic surface ships being deployed, though a pair of Type 94 attack subs had be dispatched to assist in the patrolling.
