The Tolvanic Navy Fleet Air Arm (FAA) finds itself in need of a carrier based interceptor for use with its carrier battle groups. The FAA has lacked a dedicated interceptor since the retirement of the F-14E in 2002. While the Tolvanic military's current strike fighter, the excellent Aequation F-194A "Pandora", has acceptable air to air performance it is better suited for air to ground and strike missions. To that end we are extending a tender for an aircraft that meets the following criterion:

Top speed of at least Mach 2
Ability to supercruise
Reduced RCS (full stealth is not required)
In-flight refueling capable
Two engines are preferred

The total procurement run is expected to exceed 1,250 (including spares and training models).

We await your submissions.

F-3 FireCat Variable Geometry Naval Fighter
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v293/grunt74/NS1/FireCat.jpg
The F-3 FireCat Variable Geometry Naval Fighter is optimized for use aboard aircraft carriers and in salt-water environments. Replacing the original F-3 HellCat II , the FireCat is more advanced than many state of the art land based fighters. Featuring variable geometry wings and 8 swiveling hardpoints, as well as 6 regular hardpoints the FireCat is a potent fighter. Advanced phased array radar is also included since it was necessary to accommodate the Phoenix missiles. The FireCat features several radar cross section reducing features such as its butterfly tail and delta-shaped wing(when retracted) and is coated with radar absorbent materials. Refraining from putting weapons on the outer pylons further decreases its RCS and thermal signature. The FireCat continues the Cat tradition and it is a worthy successor to the F-14 Tomcat and the HellCat II. High speed, high maneuverability and low observability make it a cutting edge fighter for the 21st century.

OOC: Why retire the F-14? Everyone knows that F-14>all. And Lulz @ TPM.

OOC: The same reason the US Navy did in RL, the F-14 required much more downtime per flight hour than most planes and cost an obscene amount of money to maintain.

OOC: And super-advanced variable geometry fighters with RAM coating slathered in a generous helping of salt water wouldn't?

OOC: in just the past 5 years, in real life, it has become much easier and less expensive to maintain RAM coatings. For example the maintenance of coatings on the F-35 costs 10 times less than the F-22.

OOC: And super-advanced variable geometry fighters with RAM coating slathered in a generous helping of salt water wouldn't?

OOC: I don't recall requiring variable geometry wings. I'm giving all the weapons designers on NS a chance to post their designs. If you have an issue with their designs take it up with them.
