A Lesson in Sacrifice [ATTN: Prestonia]

In the aftermath of perhaps the lease expected and least appreciated decisions by a Prestonian in their history, at least for the nation of Zukariaa, there were dozens of vengeful, bigoted responses throughout the countryside and in temples everywhere. Immigrants from the Kingdom of Prestonia were rounded up like cattle by groups of religious cultists in the dead of night; the authorities bought off, the temple in support.

Hundreds of them, men and women, even children, who had come to Zukariaa for their own reasons, many of them bright people (for Prestonians), or loyal public servants, were now facing something they had certainly not come to Zukariaa for; gruesome deaths.

Some struggled, calling for help, but most authorities turned a blind eye to the goings-on. They were as religious or bigoted as the cultists, or perhaps cultists themselves. Men who thrived most when worshipping the polytheistic gods of Zukariaa in the old ways, with the oldest of rituals; sacrifice.

The practice had been abandoned as a government sponsored means of pleasing the gods during the Industrial Revolution, but parents continued to pass on the practice to their children. It was never a true mystery why livestock or black people or Rosbanis disappeared at frightening rates in the midst of religious festivals. And now, these cultists to the God of War, or the High Father, they believed the gods were certainly offended by the election of an African to the top parliamentary station in Prestonia.

This belief was said to be backed by the reappearance of a comet (strangely enough, one that had been predicted for a decade, but the cultists conveniently ignored this). So now they gathered in shrines only a week after the election of Stanley Freeman as Prime Minister of Prestonia, their abducted pray in hand.

For hours, hundreds were sacrificed with their throats cut, left to have their blood spew and fill altars, soak and harden on temple floors. In one place, a lightening strike convinced these cultists that the Prestonians had defiled a temple with their blood, and so to appease them they rounded up still more and sacrificed them to make up, they thought, in numbers what the Prestonians lacked in purity.

By the end of the night, as the Sun rose in the sky, the nation only began to see the horror. Nearly four thousand ethnic Prestonians were dead, and the government refused to even release a statement.
