The Unknown Mark 2
By the year 2070, humanity had made a great many technological breakthroughs, yet the same time the ever growing human population was putting a stain on the remaining nature resources that were left on earth. The race gain control of the remaining natural resources cause a series of regional wars between the major power blocs, yet these regional wars never progress into full scale world war, but just barely. Global warming was another major factor to the ever growing tensions along the power, yet the major power blocs did manger to enact proactive green measures from 2030s, which manger to lesser the effects of global warming. But at the expense of the third world, mainly the major power blocs force them to sign treaties which limited their economic growth in order to reduce green house gas emissions. Which left a bitter taste in most of the third world, the idea of being forever locked in a stagnate state was unappealing, which resulted in forming their own power block to completed against the Western powers (NATO plus Japan, South Korea, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, and India) and the eastern powers (China, Russia, plus a number of puppet states throughout Asia and Africa.). Time will tell when this tricking time powder keg will go off.
Many believe mankind on the path to self destruction. One way to avoid mass extinction was to leave earth and colonize new worlds, but since Humanity lacked a faster then light drive, it was decided the best option for now was to colonize the planets and moons of the solar system. From 2045 to 2068, Mankind establishes colonies and outpost throughout the solar system, yet most of these colonies were run by their respected earth base governments or by private organizations, which stir up some resentment along the colonists that they had little to no say in their affairs. All policy and decisions was made by earth base governments or organizations, colonial opinions were often disregarded. But this all changed by 2070.
It was only matter of time before tensions between the three powers blocs boil over; the trigger that started one of bloodiest wars in human history, the trigger happen on Jan 21st 2070, it was the terrorist bombing (backed by the Eastern and third world blocs) of the Western Bloc summit in Brussels, which killed a number of western bloc leaders. Shortly after the bombing, a massive assault by the third world and eastern blocs on the western blocs occurred. They pick their moment since they knew that the western leadership would be badly weakened by the bombing. The Coalition (combo of third world and eastern blocs) hope for a short and swift victory against the Allies ( aka Western bloc). Yet the Allies deny them that swift victory, and force the coalition to fight a prolong war. The war last nearly 8 years, during the course of the war both sides inflicted heavy casualties, however it must be noted that no full scaled nuclear exchanges occurred during the war, because of the threat of a MAD. Which both side agreed to avoid during the course of the war, yet there was wide scale use of tactical nuclear weapons throughout the course of the war which left large tracts of land irradiated throughout the world. The end result of the third war was phyrric victory for the allies, and the total collapse of the coalition, 800 million were killed during the course of the war. Most of the world was left in ruins for the survivors to rebuild their homelands.
Meanwhile with war occurring the solar system colonies gain quasi independence from earth base governments since they were all busy dealing with war. However, it was bittersweet most of the colonies were dependent on earth for foodstuff, also the fighting spread along the colonist who still had loyalty to their earth base governments. By the end of the war nearly half to the colonies were abandoned as colonist fled to more establish colonies which were able to feed themselves. By wars end, Mars Colony, Luna Colony, Europa Colony, Io Colony and Titan Colony were the only remaining colonies were barely functioning( the fact they were even functioning was thanks in part to the international red cross sending aid via irregular aid shipments), but they had their independence. Since the earth governments were too badly weaken to enforce their rule on the colonies, and decided to accept their independence.
After nearly four years heavy debates in the halls of many earth governments and colonial governments it was decide in order preserve humanity and prevent another world war that would led to the extinction of mankind. The Terran Federation came into being on 2084, the organization was a solely collective defense and economic union of all the earth nations and solar nations, each member state had full political freedom within the federation in theory at least.
Over the course of the next six years, Earth slowly but surely recovered from the horrors of the WW3, but at the same time Terran Federation desperately tired to research the technological breakthrough needed to master Faster then light travel, with no luck. However breakthrough occurred in 2090, when an American physicist Dr. Karl Henderson and his team finally created a jump drive and successful tested it by jumping to Alpha Centurial and back. Just opening a new age for humanity, by the masses mankind went fore and colonizes every habitable world within its reach within a span of 40 years. All those leaving the solar system on ships equipped with the Henderson drive (named in honor of its creator).
Humanity rapid expansion to the stars didn’t go unnoticed, mankind soon made contact with aliens races such as the Narn and Vulcans were friendly and non hostile to Humanity. Yet at the same time, they ran into hostile races such as the Romulan Star Empire, and the Centauri Republic, which resulted in wars between these powers in 2160 against the Romulans and a war against the Centauri in 2190. In both wars, the Terran Federation barely won mainly because of outside support form the Narn and Vuclans.As direct results of these wars the Terran Federation became more centralized and begun expand powers over its member in terms dictating political policy. Which stir up much resentment along the member worlds of the Federation. Yet no one wanted to rebel against the federation with the threat of Romulan and Centauri and other unforeseen aliens powers out there. Slowly but surely the Federation shifts from a Collective Defense pact and Economic Union to a full fledge political union with centralize government in Geneva, Earth and with local member governments who had only limited self-government over their own affairs.
Finally resentment reached the point, where the descendents of the old alliance bloc nations had enough of centralization of their worlds. They decided to leave Terran federation and found their own nation. They realize if they stay in the sol sector they would become a mere client states of the federation, which was the fate of other groups that tired to leave the federation and found own their nations. They decide to leave the Sol Sector all together and go fore into the unknown to find a new home free of Terran influence. By 2240, massive convey of transports carrying these settlers left the sol sector and headed to Diaspora sector. After six long years of traveling, they came to their new home and settled down. They named new nation the Imperium of Londinium a bastion of freedom in the unknown. The new space nation double in size within 10 years of its founding, due to the fact it was free of terran influence and also it was the gateway to a whole new area of space.But over the course of the next 100 years Londinium was the only space nation in Diaspora sector, but that changed when the Federation increasingly centralized grip begun to be felt in frontier worlds of the federation. They too decide to leave for the unknown and head to the Diaspora sector to start out new nations. Londinium look upon these nations as younglings and itself as the elder state, its leadership decide to allow these younglings to be left alone and grow on their own.While at the same time the Terran federation look at these events with interest but keep their distanced because they were too busy dealing with threat of war with their arch rivals the Centauri and Romulans , yet did keep cordial relations with Londinium. Over the course of the next 200 years these “Younglings” build their worlds and systems up and were now ready to spread their wings and influence in Diaspora. The year is 2546 A.D. or 300 Post Diaspora (P.D), are you ready to go fore into the Unknown?
