OOC: The island in question is a NPC for all intents and purposes. It's basically just an unclaimed rock in the middle of nowhere. Anyone who deploys military forces withour first Tging me will be summarily ignored. Feel free to RP as criminal/pirate elements on the island, within reason of course.

Isla de la Serpiente
Southeastern Caribbean Sea

Isla de la Serpiente, Snake Island, was one of the more aptly named islands in the region. The island was home to seventy-one distinct types of snakes, twenty-two of which were venomus, at last count. The island was effectively unclaimed as nobody really wanted it, it was small (just twelve sq. km), it had no natural resources, and it was infested with the aforementioned snakes. The only inhabitants were the assorted varieties of scum that populated the island's two small "towns". It was these sorts that brought the attention of the Commonwealth to this remote island. The island were located rather close to the islands of the San Espada Province and served as a base for all manner of smugglers, criminals and worst of all ,pirates, that operating in and around the islands.

The local pirate gangs, there were at least twenty, had become more and more of a problem and it was becoming increasingly difficult to police the waters of the area adequately. As a result the Tolvanic government decided to take the fight to the pirate's doorstep and seize control of the island and root out the unsurly sorts that lived there by force.

Puerto Garcia Naval Station
San Espada Islands

The 23rd Amphibous Ready Group (ARG) departed the San Espada Islands a little before midnight bound for OBJ Viper (the code name of Snake Island). The small but deadly unit was built around a pair of amphibous assault ships (and their embarked Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU)), and three escorts. It would take the ships a little more than four hours to reach their destination, with a little luck the locals would never see what hit them.

The tall man with the handlebar mustache fancied himself as the Magnificent Matal e'Chakar, a suiting title, considering his garb. He frequently draped magnificent silks about him, wore outrageous hats, and decorated his weaponry, customizing them until they were completely different weapons from the original. He was two things more than cosmopolitan, however: proud, lucky and vicious. It was said that he was descended of a Sudanese pirate mother and a Charmaetian buccaneer king named Nuristasi e'Chakar, and it was a claim he boasted at every chance he could. He had escaped death at the hands of treacherous crews and international armed fleets, despite extraordinarily unlikely odds of survival. And he repaid those patrolling cruisers with blood as he stole all manner of cargo before shipping it all out to the black markets.

It was his luck that served him once again, for while returning to port at the Isla de la Serpiente on his slightly more powerful than usual mothership, the Lau'qi, he had intercepted a much smaller craft travelling at high speeds in the same direction. The panicked crew had by chance come across a number of battleships headed in the direction of the pirate bay, and had imemdiately turned tail and fled. The ship was small enough to escape detection, fortunately.

He immediately dispatched one of his daughter ships to give word to whomever was in the pirate bay, and steamed as quick as possible in the same direction. As the ship lurched ahead, its recently scavenged main battery gun, a G5 artillery piece with a specially engineered base and recoil dampening chassis, groaned in disapproval. He fixed his hat, a wide brimmed violet tiger striped monstrosity, on his head, and posed as the waves thrashed at the steel giant beneath his boots.

Approaching Isla de la Serpiente
Southeastern Caribbean Sea

The 23rd ARG had met up with a squadron of six Type 12 patrol vessels at about the halfway point of their journey. The smaller FACs would be put to use intercepting any vessels that attempted to flee the island, freeing the escorts to provide fire support to the Marine landing units.
