History of Nalijbol
In 386 CE, the Kingdom of Nalijbol, as it was called at the time, was founded on what was virtually, at the time, a secluded island. Their first ruler, King Alaric Dominus I, was a true tyrannt. He forced his people to work harder and harder to expand his borders. Eventually, Nalijbol controlled the entire island it inhabited, and also a half dozen of the smaller surrounding islands. Some of them already had an established nation, including leaders. However, none of them could withstand the opposing military's power.
King Dominus I was quickly assassinated by his son of the same name. Even so, the moment was bittersweet, as Dominus II was just as oppressive, if not more so. A group of citizens banned together to form the Guild in the Shadows. Their main objective was to overthrow and rebuild Nalijbol's government. Decades came and went, and their efforts seemed futile. But by 613 CE, their dream had somehow been realized. The new leader, Imperius III, was much more gentle than the previous. He wrote the first real constitution and made the Kingdom into something much more similar to a democracy. He renamed the country the People's Democratic Empire of Nalijbol.
With Imperius' new-found power, though, came greed. He eventually turned into a mirrored image of the despised King Alaric Dominus I. He again began to force the expansion of Nalijbol's borders--- without the people's consent. Again, the still-thriving Guild in the Shadows rose up and assassinated him. From the early 700's to around 1460, all was peaceful and Nalijbol had become very stable. Eventually, though, all good things come to an end.
Explorers from the far East and West became common. Soon, many of the surrounding islands had been inhabited. By the 1550's, war broke out. Of course, it was against the now Holy Empire of Nalijbol, with their leader, Emperor Alaric Dominus XXI. Unlike his ancestor, he was a benign ruler and didn't fare all too well with war and expansion. In fact, none of the next three rulers did either. More than 80% of Nalijbol's acquirred land had been lost in the next 250 years. And still, war waged on.
By the early 1800's, a very persuasive ruler put his foot in the door. Emperor Xavier Pemberton I, who was an extraordinary negotiator, was sent to several of the foreign nations where he met with their leaders. Within five years, the fighting completely ceased, and Nalijbol's borders have remained the same since then. Pemberton I also wrote Iht Cärte ylâ Librös, Nalijan for "The Document of Liberties." However, over time, foreign relations fell back down the drain as Pemberton II and III came into the picture. The current leader, High Lord Xavier Pemberton IV, now in his mid-sixties, is now striving to repair the damage done in the last century.
