Prince of Char'cala Overthrown
A brutal attack on the Char'calan capital city of Naudier by rebel forces acting under the name of the Unity of the People of Char'cala (UPC) last night resulted in the incredibly violent deposition and execution of Grand Prince Dam e'Daran and his family , and much of the governing body, UPC representatives stated. The violent coup brings to an end a seven year struggle for power between the monarchy and the UPC.
The head of the UPC, Rophong Zahir, and his lieutenants have taken over all government functions and have not lifted martial law. Widespread reports of the execution of those associated with the former government and members of the Church of Cal, a religious body the former Prince was affiliated with, have flooded the internet. Bands of heavily armed UPC guerillas roam the city streets, which have remained eerily devoid of violence in recent hours, the National Fleet (known as the Princely Fleet before the defection of the majority of the crews and their ships to the UPC) patrolling the waters off the coast, and a network of loudspeakers promoting the downfall of the Prince and the rise of a new and pious Zawhari state (the UPC's religious affiliation)are a constant reminder of the recent change.
How the world will react to the sudden change has so far yet to be seen. Though the UPC has only been in supreme control for only a day, talk of the reconstruction of the damaged economy, the reopening of free trade, and, on a more grim note, the reclamation of a number of islands lost to other nations in former wars, notably resource rich Mohat, are spreading around the archipelago nation, though whispers of democracy have yet to be heard.

We, the Unity of the People of Char'cala, bring to the world this day news of both great joy and sorrow. Twenty six hours previous to the broadcasting of this message, the Unity of the People brought justice to the most treacherous and fiendish Grand Prince Dam e'Daran and his spawn, and has claimed, in the name of the free people of Charmaetia, that the Principality now be known as the Armed Republic of Charmaetia, Lords Within and Around bless it. Let it be known that any attempt to reinstate those associated with the former Grand Prince and enemy of the People will be met with decisive action. We urge the nations of the world to cooperate in locating the members in hiding of the former Court of Barons and bringing them to justice for their part in the repression of the Charmaetian people.
Though Charmaetia is now free of the tyrannical e'Daran and his sinister minions, we request confirmation of our status as a free and pious nation from the world. We wish nothing but to cooperate with the nations of the world on matters of global importance and will, to the extent of the power of the People and its governing body, exercise its rights as an individual nation on the global scene to act in its People's best interests.
