Tucker Island's President stood behind the stage's curtain preparing to make a very dangerous and contraversial speech. He looked out the window to see many protestors outside the front doors. Many journalists from various nations were climbing out of cars. He read over his speech. Every so often he'd glanse between the curtain and see thousands of people and about 20 cameras.

There was a reporter from Lamoni coming out of her car as well. Her name was Julia Lasley, and she worked for LBC 1. No one seemed to know what this announcement would be about, but Julia had a reporter's determination to find out what it was. She smiled and waved at any other reporters that she might have known, and headed into where the speech by Tucker Island's President would be made.

President Burkley was not usually as nervous, but ever since the terrorist attacks any issue must be taken into high consideration. This speech could cause an attack very easily.

George Turkin, wasn't in a good mood. He had just gotten of a 12 hour flight from the Beauts. "Oh, Tucker Island, that will be an easy post," "I wish I could get that post," they all told him, and yet, he's not in the country 5 minutes, before he's assigned to cover some big press conference. He was getting too old for this, he told himself. Well, maybe it'll be something interesting, he through, knowing that these sort of things were rarely interesting, unless you were some geologist in Yanitaria, or some astrophysicist in Stoklomolvi. That's what these big discoveries usually were, some tiny rock, or far-away star. With any luck he might actually get some sleep during this press conference.

At that moment the Secretary of the Senate stepped in front of the podium on the stage. "Ladies and gentlemen, please stand," she asked as everyone stood. "I give you the president of Tucker Island!"

Reporter Jackson Kostu of Miskonia was ready with his camera, waiting for the President's speech to begin. He had come 6,000 miles to be here, although it had been ordered to by Nargasoa Network News.

"This oughta be good." Sebes Hermann said to himself, his voice quiet and filled with sarcasm.

He had traveled thousands of miles from the UNN headquarters in Saáry, across the ocean, through two other countries, across another body of water, and to Tucker Island where he had been informed it would be a "slow assignment" where he'd just enjopy the sights of the nation and taste some of the local food. Instead he had to leave a rather comfortable hotel room to hear a 'major' announcment which was most likely something involving the environment or something like that. He looked up at the stage and waited to see what would happen.

President Burkley walked across the stage to the podium. "Hello my fellow citizens and visitors to this grand Nation," he began. "This will be a short speech, and i will take questions afterward."

Tom Denham sat in the crowd, watching the President. He had his questions on this "Great Find" of theirs, but he waited silently for Burkley to make his speech

President Burkley continued, "Yesterday morning in the middle of the Luck Desert, drillers looking for oil stumbled upon an amazing find." The president paused for a moment adding to the suspence.

Denham rolled his eyes. What had the world come to? Gone were the days when great finds were planets, ruins and suspicous aircraft. Now, it was all about oil.

He wrote on his small notepad

Oil Drilling Find In Tucker Island - Note To Self: Don't Attend Any More Press Conferences Labelled "Amazing Finds"

The President continued, "Those drillers found uranium." the room became silent.

Jackson Kostu reached into his pocket and text "They found Uranium" to Head of State Artaxerxes Pavonis. At first, Mr. Pavonis didn't know what on earth Mr. Kostu was blabbering about. Then he remembered a news headline of an "Amazing Find" on Tucker Island. "This could be promising," he thought to himself. So, Mr. Pavonis set about to notify Robert Domino, his Administrator of Corporations.

The Kiravian Empire had sent not a journalist, but a technocrat to the conference. His name was Insulin* Völkar, and he was an officer with the Secriat of Science.

Like others in the crowd, he had come expecting a discovery of the astronomic or historical variety. Again, like others, he had been disappointed at the word 'oil'. But now, at least, he had something to show for the long flight over here besides jetlag.

He pulled out his blackberry, and composed a short message to his superiors.

They found Uranium. Contact Sec. of Ind. ASAP, Mineral Resc. Dept.

Julia Lasley was also dissapointed, but she hid it behind eyes that had seen many such dissapointments. It was all part of being a journalist.

Julia texted the information on the Uranium find to her government, and sat back to see what would happen next. She was sure that it would get even more dull from now on.

The president was expecting a different reaction. He was actually quite happy. He then remembered what he was supposed to do next. "Any questions?" he asked.

"I have one Mr. President. What will your government be doing with the Uranium? And how will this pose as a problem for national security?" Jackson Kostu

"Sir, would you be interested in signing a nonagression pact with the Kiravian Empire?"

"I would have to talk with the president of Kiravia about that later."

All of the sudden gunshots were heard outside the auditorium!

"I would have to talk with the president of Kiravia about that later."

"My apologies. I was sent instructions to ask such when I informed the Empire of the uranium and..."

When Völkar heard the gunshots, he froze mid-sentance and swiveled his head in the direction of the sound.

The President was rushed off stage by secret service men. Then an explosion went off blowing the door off. And many men rushed in with ak-47s and many people recognized them as the protestors outside!

One of the men asked volkar, "Where be President Burkley?"

The Kiravian gave the answer that would bring the least harm to both Burkley and himself.

"The security folks took him out of here when they heard you firing. He's not here."

Sitting in the corner of the room taking detail notes about the situation and the recent protest, a Lynion reporter was carefully taking notes on his PDA and sending it back to Lynion Network News. He looked up at the armed men as he wondered what they were doing.

'Protests are never what they used to be,' thought Edward to himself.

The protestors were now considered terrorists. They were not happy that TI had Uranium. Protesting was not what they originally came to do. It was a cover up. "Jameson, What do we do now?" asked one of them. "We make this a hostage situation," Jameson answered with a bit of a smile. Then he began barking orders. "Block every entry way!"
Tucker Island
22-08-2008, 04:23
"Okay Everyone," Jameson began with booming voice. He was standing on the stage infront of the mic. He signaled for the cameras to be turned on. "Hello everyone, I am...Well just call me Jameson. For every hour it takes for you to get rid of all the uranium one person will be killed on live television. Also every time you try to get in here many people will get killed!" He laughed like a maniac.

Mr. Kostu backed into the wall and inconspicuously put his hands into his pockets. "The 'protesters' rushed in, but the President got away. We now have hostages of the other reporters," he text to Mr. Pavonis.
"Jameson, you're late!"
Protester aren't protesters when they're well funded.
Oseato

Bob Langraf of Oseaton Broadcast News had been having a terrible day. First his flight from Oseato had been delayed by several hours, then the airlines had lost his luggage when it got to Tucker Island, then the taxi he had tried to take directly to the news conference to cover the announcement from the Tucker Island president had gotten into a traffic accident.

However all of this conspired to keep Bob from being taken hostage along with many of the other journalists. Seeing an opportunity to make up for all the delays and problems that had occurred Bob directed his camera crew to set up outside the building in which the terrorists had taken hostages. His broadcast would go out live back to Oseato and other nations around the world that got OBN broadcasts.

"Hello, I'm Bob Langraf reporting to you live from Tucker Island where a hostage situation is developing. Earlier this morning the president of Tucker Island called a news conference to discuss the finding of key Uranium deposits in Tucker Island. However, the crowd of 'protesters' have stormed the senate building and have taken many of the attending political figures and journalists hostage. Right now we don't have a lot of information on who exactly these attackers are, or even why they oppose the uranium project so violently. Please stay with us through this developing situation."

President Burkley was in a car listening to a broadcast being given by the OBN. He sighed. "I knew something like this would happen," he thought. He had a critical decision he needed to make. He picked up his cell phone. But before he could dial secret service men took it from his hands and said, "Careful they could trace the phone call. Wait till we get to the Capitol."

Edward looked up and opened a link back to a military installation somewhere in the world which would be transferred back to Lynion. He carefully took some notes down as he hoped and prayed he wouldn't be caught.

'This better get back home or else I'm as screwed as the next guy,' thought Edward to himself.
