This is the OOC and Sign-Up Thread for an RP I have been discussing in my Production Thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=562277). There is more discussion on this and other RPs there if you wish to seek it out. Whether or not you expressed interest in that thread, you are more than welcome to sign-up here. Currently I am not imposing any limit on the number of people, but for at least one segment of the RP (the Special Forces) plot there are only seven characters.

A Few Details
-I don't expect or wish that any war should develop from this (though I won't put a definitive "no" on that right now).
-The Year is 2017.
-There will be a military [colonial] segment to this, but I don't expect armadas or the likes.
-Basic map is coming.

The Island Map Pending
-Roughly circular with an area of about 4000 square miles.
-Average highs during the winter (which this is) are around 40F, but with the ocean winds, the snowstorm coming through, and the lack of sun... it'll be around 20F
-The terrain is very rugged, mountainous, and forested in areas. Vehicles will be a poor idea.

Overview
In 1970, the nation of Kingslandia established a secret research base near the Antarctica on island previously and still uncharted. However, in 1992, after the decline of hostilities between Kingslandia and its major enemies, they closed down the base and ignored its very existence. None other than a select few then knew of what work had been done at the base or for that matter even knew the existence of an island mass in the area. However, somebody, somehow, within the organization known as the Sanctum Mafia (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=524787) learned of its existence in recent years and reestablished connection with the base.

While continuing to keep the island off-the-grid, the Mafia sent its best minds to take up the gauntlet and continue the work that Kingslandia had left behind. Now, with a working base and five hundred entrenched Crusaders, the Mafia is poised to make a major advancement. It was easily apparent that the base was an R&D Lab for electronic warfare. And what was even more apparent was that the Kingslandian scientists had made leaps and bounds not seen before on the field of battle. And their secret, their developments, their technology... it all remained secret until in 2017, something changed.

They were discovered. A Special Forces military transport carrying the seven members of the Executor Squad to the Middle East was flying out of an Antarctic AFB when it ran into a blizzard. With visual guidance a joke, the pilots relied on their electronic equipment. Unfortunately, being close enough to the island that the EW Base's sensors disrupted the equipment, the plane crashed into the side of a mountain. The pilots, bearing the brunt of the force, were killed, but all seven members of the Special Forces team remained alive and intact. When they try to radio for help, they find that their signal cannot get through nor can their GPS trackers. All of their equipment that relies on transmissions is completely useless. Survival mode ensues, but when they find the Mafia's secret base, all bets are off.

Back in the Dominion, the Navy scrambles a couple of ships to chug across the ocean and search for the lost plane. However, when their satellites are unable to search the area, something seems amiss - especially when they find the uncharted island. Other nations [read: you guys] are equally curious and send their own forces to investigate.

What to Do
Mafia
All right, for the most part, I'll be controlling the Mafia. However, if you want a character in it or some larger role, please ask and detail what you wish and I will consider it.

Special Forces
The Executor Squad has seven members each with a different specialty in killing (alright, their is some overlap). I will be taking one member of the squad, but six other people should take the reigns of the other characters. Half of this RP will be with this unit dealing with the situation. Just make your character (remember, their Dominion soldiers... if you need help, ask or do some research) and I'll approve.

Nations
Everyone who wishes, whether they have another role in this RP or not, can be one of those curious nations that sends a brigade to investigate. Remember, no big forces and signals are being jammed. If you want other roles dealing with your nations or characters of your nations, please just detail them and I will give the thumbs up or down.

All of this will be put in more detail when I write the OP. And twists and turns will be coming like left hooks and uppercuts. Questions, comments, etc. please say.

Yep, that would be one of those other things under the "nations" options.

[OOC: I'd be quite interested. However, since this is PMT - not too far into the future, only nine years - I'd like to request that you could please keep things sensible. No massive developments in railgun technology will have occured, and if they did, there would not be rail-rifles firing super plasma rounds with ammunition drawn from the air.
Most likely, the tanks will be of slight improvement over today, and rifles will be the same ones you have now, unless they've been slightly upgraded as weaponry is.
If people will agree to that fact, I'd very much like to join as one of the other nations, DMG]

I would like to dispatch one aerial destoryer with eight war planes onboard. It'll be partol when it drifts off course and decides to invesitgate a recent signal that crashed. So it'll be explained what is onboard and I'll send a company of Hunters and Assassin aboard if you don't mind.

OOC: Charmaetia, the only way your going to gain experience is attempt to do some RP's and its fun seeing some new people around.

That's all fine. This shouldn't really be about the technology that we're all using because it will be small numbers of troops (and smaller number of usable technologies considering vehicles will get f***ed by the terrain and targeting systems are getting messed by the facility).

However, a large part of the RP is the technology that Kingslandia and subsequently the Mafia have been developing, so you may very well see tech that doesn't exist yet (or ten years from now). That is part of the plot and reason that this place matters.

I assume an aerial destroyer is a ship carrying a small air complement. I'm not sure what your Hunters and Assassin are either, but I assume it'll all be fine.

I have no problem with new/underdeveloped RPers so long as they are willing to take constructive criticism from everybody and (more importantly) can write decently.

Would a group of nomadic apocalypse nutters suit you?

well, I have no problem with you doing a Special Forces team also, but having the exact same plot entrance is a bit weak. I'm sure you could think a bit harder and create something interesting for their entrance/reason for being there.

Put together the characters from gone with the blastwave, but afraid of the apocalypse. (Exact reason why they're in the middle of nowhere)

OOC: I can do that. lol.

Base: "Recon team 4, come in."
Recon 4: "Recon here, base."
Base: "New orders. There appears to be a previously unknown and unseen island near where you're training. We want you to take your transport ship and check it out. Consider this an advanced Cold Weather Conditions traning for you."
Recon 4: "Roger that base, over and out"

Lieutant Jake Carter called his troops over and gives them the new orders. They were a 5 man team including him, known mostly by their first names only. Mich is the short, wiry one who is good with the silent kills. Roul is the Sniper, renowned for his amazing accuracy at the longest ranges in the worst conditions. Sam is the heavy gunner. Equipped with not only the genaric assualt rifle, but also an attached shotgun that can blow enemies away. And finally, there is the demolition expert Rodney. He carries most of the team's explosives and has an attached grenade launcher on his rifle.

So the team piles into their transport and off the go to the new island. But as soon as they get within sight of the island, they lose all navigation and communication equipment.

"Hey Mr. Captain! What gives?" Jake calls up to the pilot of the craft.
"I don't know. Everything just went haywire." The pilot calls back.
Jake thinks for a minute. "Well, we can see the island now so we can just guide it in by sight. Keep 'er moving" He calls.
The boat continues to approach the island but before it reaches its destination, it suddenly gets stuck between two plates of ice.
"Allright men, this is where our free ride ends. Move out!" Jake calls as his men jump aboard the floating ice and begin the long walk towards the main island.

That a good enough intro for you? I'm still working on building intros so i'm not the best at em. I know this is OOC, but i just wanted to put that up for criticisim :D lol

Uh, I guess they're fine as long as they can find a reason to find the island.

I'd wait until I write the OP (whenever that may be), before doing much more work on an intro. Some things will/won't be feasible once you've read what I write.

Alfegos
28-08-2008, 10:36
I'll go for a mercenary unit sent to recee the island by Alfegos on finding the interference patch on satellite mapping (hardly noticeable, but does seem interesting enough). This, being Alfegos, will consist of some airship-based units, who will find that working without electronics becomes "interesting".

NZ-L82 (The Galliant) - A (relatively) small airship converted from a civilian freighter to a light gunship. At 400m in length, the airship sports a small surface-to-air missile rack (some generic mid-range heatseekers/GPS guided), an internal missile bay of 16 air-to-ground missiles, and two 35mm autocannons (each with a share of 2500 rounds). Most features, including engines and armour, have been upgraded to military-spec, with the only similarity being the actual structure (think typical fat Zeppelin, with under slung single aluminium unit). The airship has a crew of 12 men.

NZ-C7 (The Dauntless) - A large airship (800m long), converted from a civilian aerofreighter to a heavy gunship/transport. The missiles (held internally), consist of 24 mid-range generic SAMs, 32 short-range artillery missiles and 2 "Sledgehammer" cruise missiles, with four 35mm autocannon turrets (each with 3000 rounds) located around the airship. The foreward area of the original airship cargo hold is taken up with an extended crew unit and an "aeromarine" contingent housing. There are 24 aeromarines, living in cramped conditions, all armed professionally and trained for specialist air-ground warfare. The crew number 21, along with the Group Captain in charge of the operation.

The Aeromarines - 24 men, all ex-military paras/aeromarines. Standard armament is an AF-07P 6.8mm assault rifle, AP-89 pistol, knife, a couple of frag grenades and a smoke grenade. They'll be doing any ground movements.

OOC: Alfegos? Thought you'd died. Anyway, my short holiday has commenced and I'm away until Sunday, so no computer until Sunday afternoon for me. When will this start? My forces sent will be a couple of warships, probably (I'm taking on the old Britain role - naval prowess, keeping up patrols everywhere) scrambled from patrols, and I expect I'll land Marines and Sailors. All this alright with you lot?

Could be interesting. Since transmissions are being jammed, I could have a little detachment find the island by accident, or perhaps 'discover' it via intercepted transmissions or something similar.
It would be interesting, military robots against electronics warfare specialists :P

That is, if you're still interested.
