My Fellow Leaders,

A few days ago an unidentified aircraft was spotted a few miles off our eastern coast, our biplane fighters were scrambled to intercept the aircraft as communications were attempted by radio. Following the lack of a response from the intruder, a number of squadrons and flak batteries were ordered to go to 'stand-by' and await further orders.

Our planes already scrambled were ordered to no engage unless fired upon first and to attempt communications via signal-lamps and flares. The unkown pilots ignored both our communications attempts and our planes, after about approx forty minutes flying along our coastline the aircraft turned and headed eastwards. We have not seen the aircraft, or any others like it, since the incident and we have recieved no communications either. Our spooks have not had any luck indentifying the aircraft or its insigna and so we're pretty much stumped as to who the aircraft belongs and their intent.

Enclosed below is what we know about the aircraft;

1. To the east of our nation is open sea and then the 'mainland' and what was once the Ruskkie Empire...our former Imperial overlords.

2. We've guess that the unkown aircraft is either a long bomber or a long range patrol/recon plane.

3. We've ruled out sky pirates, the plane and its insignas doesn't seem to fit with such scum.

I'll have to admitt that we know almost nothing about the aircraft, its origins, who's flying it and whats their intent. As a measure the Morridane Aerial Corps and observers have been placed on full alert along with our AA gun batteries remianing on a stand-by footing for the time being.

So if anyone could shed some light on this mystery then the Morridane people would be forever in your debt.

Lord Governor Edmund Vermillion
Appointed Ruler, United Republic of Morrdh.

OOC: Is this set in the 1930s, or you just use biplanes because you want to?

OOC: Not too fussed, I use biplanes becuase 1. I like 'em and 2. Morrdh's tech level is somewhat behind compared to most nations.

Tom eased the control coloumn of his sea harrier gently to the left, as he turned to reform with his partner, Kim.

"Shark 1, we have enemies closing in from behind."
"Roger Shark 2"

The Harriers screeched as they accellerated towards the north. Tom Smith had been in the military a few years now, joining the SAF Regiment at the age of 16. He could see the opposing Harriers closing in,

"Standby hard port turn"

Kim slammed to the left, the pressure mounting on his body. He evened out and locked onto the Harrier ahead,

"FIRE! haha"

Meanwhile Tom, was flying south chasing John ahead of him. He swooped down low to get below him.

"Bring it on Tom!"

Suddenly the sound of heavy firng echoed through the air and Tom's Harrier fell to the sea,

"Okay, War Games over return to base."
"Gotcha Pete!"
"It's my turn next time."

Kim re-formed with the two 'enemies' and headed south,

"Guys Tom's been shot down"
"What!?"
"He was chasing me and he got shot down."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

"What!" screamed Seargeant Hard-on
"He got shot, from the East"
"The only thing east is Morrdh"
"That's honestly what happened sir"

The Seargeant stormed out of the room screaming all sorts of abuse in a raging frenzy.

Captain Doleth of the Morridane Gunnery Corps, like much of his fellow gunners, had been on edge these past few days since the unknown aircraft made its flyby over Morrdh's eastern coast before striking for the deadlands that were the former Ruskkie Empire. Despite being here in Saltaire on the west coast, the incident was keenly felt, plus it had worried quite a few here with Saltaire being Morrdh's sole naval base. But the mysterious aircraft had yet to make a return and with it being a week since they spotted it, many were being to think that it would not make a return.

Doleth was beinging to relax a little and had considered standing down his battery for the first time in nearly a week. But as luck would have it Chambers, the battery's wireless operator, cried out. "Bandits spotted to the south-west over the Porpoise Isles! Observers say 'alf dozen headed north-by-north east sir!"

"Hell..." Doleth cursed, the unkown aircrafts would past right by them just over a quarter mile out in the bay. "How long Chambers?"

"Five minutes, maybe less cap!"

"Right then lads, get ta yer guns and stand ready fer my orders...first fricker ta open fire before I say will get more than their sodka rations and wages docked!" Doleth called out as the gunners scrambled to their posts, readied shells and checked over the breeches and sights of their guns. "Chambers?"

"No word from 'em yet cap'n, our signallers are trying their best ta radio the buggers sir. Commander Soles had the other batteries alerted and sent scramble orders to the Aerial Corps...but our flyers ain't gonna be up in time."

"Just kept listening fer when they give the word Chambers."

"Aye cap'n!" Chambers replied before turning his attention on the wireless set and adjusted a few dials to keep the signal loud and clear. Doleth pulled out his field glass and set his glaze at the sky over the bay, he noticed a steadily growing sound...a sort of cross between a dull roar and a low whine. He spotted the aircraft as they flew over the bay, rapidly growing larger as the noise became a loud roar like thunder. His ears began to ache a little as the aircraft approached, blissfully unware of the numberous AA batteries now being trained on them.

Doleth watched the aircraft as they neared, he saw them to be completely different to the Aerial Corps' biplanes and more modern, but fewer in number, monoplanes. The aircraft he saw had no props, a streamlined body and stubby, swept-back wings. He had another seen such aircraft before and wondered who or what had created such machines. By this point the noise had become just this point of unbearable as the aircraft flew low. Doleth cursed as he saw one of the aircraft roll and then dived in the town's direction, panicking he caried out without thinking. "FIRE! FER FRICK'S SAKE FIRE!"

The loud thump-thump-thump echoed throughout the bay as the gun crew rapidly fired off as many shots as they could before the strange aircraft reached them. Some of the other gun batteries opened up as heavy machine guns were pointed at the sky and let rip, quickly filling the air with hot lead and clouds of black smoke. A lucky hit, or a fluke, clipped the aircraft which they guessed to be making an attack run against them causing it to stutter off course and then dip downwards as its fellows pulled tight turns before seemingly beat a hastily retreat. The AA fire pettered out after a minute or so leaving the sirens and the aircraft's death cry the only sounds as it struck the gun crews that they may had fired the first shots of an unprovoked war.

"We're fricked..." Doleth grimly uttered as he walked past the stunned gun crews to write up a report and explain to his superiors as to what just happened.

As the word reached Mr Greene in the capital he felt he should alert the Premier instantly. He got up while grabbing at his Granite Grey Blazer and hurried out of the room. After departing his office he turned to the left and walked up the moderately-lit grey corridoor, he had a hurried pace but never failed to look pofessional. The Premier's Assistant for one year now, Robert, had grew up in the city looking at the great statues of the premier's late father, the premier at that time and hoping that he could one day work for such a great man, none better than his son he thought as he first got the job at the age of 15.

His thoughts were interrupted by a door in front of him, the door to the premier's room. He knocked once and awaited permission to enter, it seemed strange that whenever in a time of emergency all citizens would feel calm around the Premier, he was a figure of Safety and Leadership. As he waited hs eyes were drawn to a steel ornament, in fact one on each wall, to his left and to his right. It seemed to be the Coat of Arms of Solenial, he was amazed by the workmanship that had gone into them, the cormorants especcially. The Cormorant was the national bird of Solenial, a beautiful Seabird that had inspired the Premier himself in the way that he lives life.

The door opened, he saw a young oriental lady who must have been the doorman (OOC: or doorwoman).

"What is it Robert?" asked the Premier
"I have news, from the Air Force."
"Oh yes, what is it?"
"It seems one of our Soldiers got killed during a war game, it was fire from Morrdh."
"Hmm... this is clearly an act of hostility towards the Solenian people, i want a proper funeral for this soldier and then i want the Military ready. We can't have this."
"Yes Sir!"

Robert left the room and carried out the few orders he had been given.

Dear Leader of the Morrdh People,

Solenial holds you responsible for the death of Mr Thomas Smith. We feel his death must be justified and feel no action may result in more deaths of our military personnel.

Edmund Vermillion, Lord Governor of the United Republic of Morrdh, cursed loudy as he read through the report and the message they recently recieved from the Socialist Republic of Solenial. "Well this is a fine mess we're now in Soles!"

Commander Soles shifted uneasily in his seat before replying, "Yes it is sir."

"Indeed, a war...especially war against a foe who vastly outnumbers, us let alone has superior technology and equipemnt, is the last thing we need right now as Reclamaton efforts have yet to be finished. I suppose you've dealt with the captain who in a moment of panic has put us on the verge of war?"

"Yes Lord Governor, I've seen to his punishment personnally sir."

"Good..." Edmund replied grimly. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have a response to draft in light of this declaration of war."

"Sir!" Soles quickly salutes as he stands and then leaves the room, leaving the Lord Governor alone.

Dear Mr Geene,

On behalf of the Morridane people and the United Republic I write to offer you my deepest apology for the tragic misunderstanding that resulted in the lost of one of your aircraft and its pilot. You have my word that we had no intend of cuasing conflict between our two nations and that the officer responsable has been stripped of his rank and transferred to a Penal unit.

We have made arrangements for the late Thomas Smith to be buried with full military honours in the next week or so, that is unless you wish for the body to be taken back to your country. I can only ask that we can settle this unfortuntate affair in a civil manner and hopefully avoid needless bloodshed. The United Republic of Morrdh does not wish for war, and I hope that you wish to avoid conflict as well.

I await your reply.

Sir Edmund Vermillion,
Lord Governor, United Republic of Morrdh.

Upon reading the reply Mr Greene felt immediately humbled, perhaps war would be a hasteful action, avenging the death in one soldier at the expense of a handful of hundreds of our own soldiers would be ridiculous to say the least.

Dear Sir Edmund Vermillion,

We would like the body of the deceased Thomas Smith to be returned to Solenian Mainland ASAP. We hope nothing more of this and will choose to operate our war games in a different location in the future.

Mr Robert Greene
Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Solenial

Edmund grinned as he read through the Solenial response and then set about a reply of his own.

Dear Mr Greene,

I am glad and greatly relieved that you have chosen to heed reason and thus avoid war. I hope that in time we can achieve better relations between our two nations.

In the meantime, I have made arrangements for the body of your unfortuntate pilot to be returned to his country of birth. One of our frigates, the URS Bellicose, shall transport him home with flag at half mast and draped in black as both our custom and as a sign of respect.

Sir Edmund Vermillion,
United Republic of Morrdh.

Once Edmund had finished writing there was a knock on his door from Commander Soles. "Sir, the boffins say that the aircraft we shot down is some kind of rocket plane...they believe that they can reverse engineer it!"

"I doubt that the Solenial would be please, after all Commander it is one of their planes."

"Who says they have to know..."

With little success in our enquires, we have decided to release a photograph taken of the mysterious aircraft which we hope will shed some light on the matter.

On a related note, following a rather unfortuntate incident we are putting a No Fly Zone over our country for the forseeable future. Anyone wishing to use Morridane airspace must contact us ASAP to arrange a flightpath and to avoid further incidents.

Thank you.

-Yes, you did Alexey... so. Any further ... um.. confrontations?
-No sir, as far as out intel bureau knows, only "love" notes are flying around.
-I see... order a plane from our FL to take a quick pass by Morrdh air. I want to see how they react.
-Afcourse sir.
-Oh and Alexey, order them to paint a brand new shining Bulgorian roundel on it... thats the interesting part.
-Yes sir.

Sturm turned, and looked outside the window...
