History
Solyhniya existed since as a nation since the defeat of Ivan Mazepa at the hands of the Muscovites. A relatively small number of Zaporozhzhjan Cossacks sailed in search of another land they could rule, without being surrounded by enemies.
The few Cossacks responsible the idea gathered serfs from around Ukraine, Poland and Belarus to come and find this new land, and to find a future free from religious and physical oppression.
In order to find enough boats to take the now around two hundred thousand-strong army of "newbie Cossacks" to their new land, their leader, Volodymyr Petrenko launched a surprise attack on the Turkish-Tatar slaving port of Caffa. They seized a large number of sailing ships, and also liberated many Ukrainian slaves, who were more than happy to serve Petrenko's host in return for a release from their shackles.
Petrenko took the boats far out to sea, and after a difficult five month journey (known as the Solyhniyan oddysey) discovered the azure shorelines, the forest-steppes (лісостеп) and the black soil of Solyhniya.
