Overview

The Commonwealth's territory is comprised of over 120 islands, with 7 major island-states comprising the Commonwealth itself.

The islands are often low-lying, causing, in conjuction with their temperate climate, a large amount of rainfall.

Terrain

The Mainland is primarily semiarid and desert plateaus with a narrow coastal plain with mountains in the north-west.

Cyprecia has one central plain with mountains to north and south; scattered but significant plains along southern coast.

Climate

The Mainland is mostly desert; hot, dry, sunny summers (June to August) and mild, rainy winters (December to February) along coast; cold weather with snow or sleet periodically in the Waterloo area. Dover and Newark have fairly mediterranean climates; mild to cool, wet winters with hot, dry summers; mountains experience heavy winter snows

Cyprecia's climate is mainly temperate-Mediterranean with hot, dry summers and cool winters.

Natural Hazards

The Mainland has a penchant for dust storms and sandstorms. Cyprecia suffers from moderate earthquake activity and the occasional drought.

Environmental Issues

Dirty industry and previous lack of Sulphur Emission Controls have left smog over some major cities. Lack of recycling initiatives mean landfills are rapidly filling up.

New controls mean that this is rapidly being rectified, including reductions in vehicle emissions, introduction of shipping regulations, and increasing reliance on bulk freight.

Government Type: Constitutional Monarchy - a monarch resides as a ceremonial head of state, with a Westminster System parliament based wholly on the British system.

An Administrative Division, whilst usually held by a city, often extends to it's surrounding area as a whole. Many smaller towns and cities have their own administrative councils for local matters.

Legislative Branch

Houses of Parliament, as follows:

House of Commons - 358 representatives of seats around the nation.
House of Lords - non-elected consultative house ensuring House of Commons does not over-exercise it's powers or create unjust laws. Often accused of being a political tool.

Judicial Branch

The Judicial Branch of the government is headed by the Lord High Chancellor of Adenia. He, alongside 2 other High Judges, lead legal reforms.

The Lord High Chancellor is always a member of the House of Lords, and a committee (Lord Commissioners of the Great Seal) decide and propose to the cabinet changes to legal matters.

Political Parties

There are three major parties in the House of Commons in Adenia, with 4 others holding notable, but insignificant, numbers of seats.

Conservative and Unionist Party of Brittanican Adenia: Her Majesty's Government. Formed in 1785 ahead of the first Formal Opening of Parliament, the Conservative Party is Adenia's oldest and most well-known party, following centre-right policies including small-government administration, and pro-capitalist agendas.

Adenian Labour Party: Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition. Centre-left politics have meant that this party often switches with the Conservative party. Main agenda includes womens and workers rights, larger government intervention, and increased social spending.

Adenian Democratic Party: Her Majesty's Opposition. Centre-left politics, including classic liberalism, social democracy, and more recently, market liberalism.

Adenian National Front: Neo-nazi party. Advocates increased military spending, the persecution of all foreigners and those not deemed "desirable". Currently holds just 1 seat.

Adenian Common Workers Cause: Far-left party. Advocates nationalisation of all industries, increased isolation, and funding of communist incentives worldwide. Suspected of advocating "pogroms".

Adenian Fascist Party: Right-wing party. Advocates increased corporation intervention in politics, increased militarisation, and more intervention in foreign affairs. Gaining popularity in light of failing Conservative policies.

Adenian Green Party: Environmentalist party. Accused of being a front for "eco-terrorist" organisation Daughters of Eve.
