Government
The Imperium of Belkaros is governed by two bodies, the Imperatorium and the Senate. The Imperatorium consists of the Emperor (Gn. C. Mundus I), his chosen (uncommon) or elected provincial governors, the Prime Minister (elected, Rachael Jonovan) plus their advisors and military commanders. The Emperor has power equal to 3/4 of the Senate, and most Imperial Rulings can be overturned by a 3/4 majority Senate vote. The Senate consists of two representatives from each province (434 Senators) led by a Senate Macrolouge (Sen. Janus Loss). The Prime Minister has power equal to 1/3 of the Senate, and plays a role similar to that of the Emperor.
History
The Imperium of Belkaros was for thousands of years divided into five Houses, oppressive feudalistic monarchs who ruled the various districts of the territory. The peoples of the Houses were led to revolution in 1943 by Emperor Mundus Primo, then ousted leader from the former nation of Fonzuania, which is now a Belkan territory. The Emperor killed the five families who controlled the Houses, executing them with his own sword, according to some legends, and unified the districts under his banner.
The new Belkaros struggled for some time, often categorized as a corrupt dictatorship as the new regime attempted to weed out the corruption and immorality of the past. In 1995, Emperor Gnaeus Cornelius Mundus I, a clone of Emperor Mundus Primo, took the throne. By the turn of the millenium, he had ended a twelve year recession, re-established the powers of the senate, and greatly improved living conditions across the nation. Since then, Belkaros has grown almost exponentially, its once nearly worthless Credit now worth nearly one and a half times the USD. Recently, the Imperium has begun accepting smaller nations as protectorates, taking a small tarrif in exchange for infrastructure enhancment, government installation and armed forces protection.
