Ascelonian Embassy

Ascelonia seeks embassies with other nations. They wish to make trades since their economy lacks raw materials and has many factories. We do not care much for ethics of nations we trade with.

Ascelonia is a nation on two peninsulas and has two large mountain ranges running down it's land border. It is blessed with a long coastline. The valley in between the mountain ranges is lightly populated, but settlement is encouraged there. The area between the coast and the mountains is rich with rivers and fertile farmland, but prone to earthquakes making it unsuitable for urban settlement. The weather is similar to the West Coast of the United States and is very wet. The coast is heavily populated.

Maritime Claims
All bodies of water within 100 miles of Ascelonia is proclaimed to belong to Ascelonia.

Environmental Issues
Widespread deforestation and attempts to control earthquakes have left much of the land barren and inhospitable. Marshes are being cleared to make beaches for tourism. The government is promoting settlement in once untouched regions. Out of control population increases. Farmland is turning into desert due to overuse of water.

Ascelonia is a technocracy. The government is trying to wipe out the usage of money. Industry relies solely on technology. Most of the employed are either part of the service sector or part of the army of engineers that ensures that Ascelonia's factories run smoothly. But, the private sector has a virtually unbreakable grip over the government of Ascelonia. Due to the reliance on technology, many of the less educated are unemployed.

"I apologize for the cramped quarters. Do you wish to make a trade agreement?" the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Thomas Frankfurt, greets John Decartus warmly.

"There's no need to apologize good sir. Sometimes you have to put what is practical over what is comfortable," the man answered with a smile. He paused for a moment, as a female aid swiftly unlatching his briefcase.

He continued as if he had not paused at all, "Naturally, our nation is more than interested in possible trade relations. However, we are not sure what exactly your people are in need of. As such we have brought a portfolio of some of the things our nation produces in surplus." Even as he spoke Decartus's helper produced several articles, carefully handing them over to Frankfurt.

Unperturbed John continued, "Food, Machinery & Equipment, and Arms Manufacturing are our top industries at the moment. Food may be of some interest to your people as I assume that there is less farmland than industrial power. We have a surplus of Oil and all sorts of materials used in factories, alongside cotton and wool at the moment. I'm sure you would use these to the best of your advantage if we were to trade?"

Thomas Frankfurt thinks for a second. His forehead wrinkles as he concentrates for a few minutes. He turns to his female secretary and asks her to copy down what they say.

"Of course... food is definitely of use to us. How would we survive without it? With the land turning into deserts, we would require lots of food. However, oil is a drug we are addicted to and we would like to ween ourselves off of it, but we would accept some of your oil to make plastic and other products unrelated to energy use," Thomas smiles warmly as he looks at the papers that Decartus had handed him.

"Our nation can provide you with Information Technology. We don't know what else to give you other than our extremely controversial television shows," Frankfurt laughs at his last comment.

"However we could be interested in a partnership in the Arms Manufacturing industry. How about you make one type of arms and we make another? I'd be interested on how we split this industry. You see... specialization always increases efficiency and we are Technocrats," Thomas suddenly notices that John has no seat.

"Have a seat and please, if you need anything... anything at all. We will accomodate you. There's a coffee shop right across the street. I feel this is the beginning of a beautiful partnership between our nations."

Amy Thorpe, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, greets the ambassador from Volzgrad.

"I apologize for the cramped spaces. We should probably talk about business and trade agreements, but I prefer if we got to know each other better. By the way, what is your name? Mine is Amy."

"My name is Alexei. It's a pleasure to meet you." He responded as he greeted the Ascelonian Minister of Foreign Affairs. Alexei straightened his tie and sat down. "You wish to have a trade agreement? Yes...I believe that could be handled quickly. Do you have any other requests?" Alexei asked politely as he put on his glasses.

Amy Thorpe flashed her signature smile.

"My other request would be a possible alliance for the future. Ascelonia has the full support of it's region, but it will need more military treaties with other nations. I suggest that we should be able to use each others ports and bases while also allowing manhunts and investigations if criminals attempt to seek refuge in each other's countries."

"Have a seat and please, if you need anything... anything at all. We will accomodate you. There's a coffee shop right across the street. I feel this is the beginning of a beautiful partnership between our nations."

Apparantly John Decartus could talk without stopping for anything other than listening. Seating himself, his grin grew wider as he said, "As do I. No need to worry about our comfort, we are only staying a little while. A dedicated diplomat will be arriving soon.

As for our food, we make too much of it some say. Well, this may shut their mouths. While I may not speak for the Houses that control our Arms Manufacturing Industry, I hear they've been looking around for partners. Trying to produce everything yourself gets messy, space is space, and it costs more than all the jewels in the world. I have no doubts that they would leap at an oppurtunity to split some business 'twixt our peoples. Alley, do give this man the calling cards of those houses."

The women pulled out a packet from the suitcase, handing it to Frankfurt. "I took the liberty of adding further information about the houses that produce weaponry. I'm sure that this will come in handy. It is unbiased, it was a foriegn study," she explained as she gave the sheaf of paper to the diplomat.

"The surplus oil is already in our tankers, but you may be the first person to learn of them. Which can only be to your benefit, I suppose," again unperturbed, John Decartus continued as soon as his aid finished speaking.

His aid whispered into his ear. He blinked.

"Ah forgive my old age, I almost forgot to adress one of your gracious offers. You say you can help us with information technology? I will admit that sciences in that field are not in a healthy state in our country, and we would love for you to remedy that situation for us. Just as we will help you too."

Alexei smiled politely in return

He thought for a moment before responding. "Yes, that sounds excellent. A military treaty between our nations would strengthen the ties between our nations in both peace and war. Unfortunately, anything concerning criminals or fugitives would be rather difficult to handle. The Police and Intelligence Service in Volzgrad is rather strict on how they operate."

"We thank you for your business. We would also like to discuss some military matters..." Thomas said quietly. His eyes swept the room for spies or hidden cameras.

"I know what you mean, sir," said Amy with her voice lowered.

"Ascelonia's police and secret service are... fascists... I've been fined dozens of times for the littlest of crimes. Well, that was off-topic... I would like to know what you would want in the trade agreement."

"We thank you for your business. We would also like to discuss some military matters..." Thomas said quietly. His eyes swept the room for spies or hidden cameras.

The women at John's side suddenly became tense as a strung bow. John looked as if he had not seen Thomas's glance about the room. He picked up a pen.

"Well, we could write out the matter on folded napkins," he joked. The aid glared daggers at her employer.

"The usual I suppose." responded Alexei as he thought for a few moments. "Volzgrad is rich with metals, Iron and Uranium specifically. We have some minor trade with grains." Alexei leaned in a little closer, "If your nations ever wishes to construct nuclear weapons, then we would be glad to provide the resources."
Ascelonia
30-07-2008, 21:12
"Ah yes... nuclear weapons... Yes... Iron... This is all good for Ascelonia... We are a small nation, but we do NOT like to be picked on! Fascist or not a fascist, we are all Ascelonians... Sorry. I get into little rants about things. We need raw materials for war factories, but we have a shortage of grain... my apologies. Nuclear weapons would be perfect for our nation seeing as how we can get picked on easily. We can supply you with conventional weapons as well as aiding in setting up a good communications network here and there."

Amy smiles mischieviously. She pulls a piece of paper out and taps on it with a long red fingernail. Her red lips spouted out two words...

"Sign it."

Despite his usual calm demeanor, Alexei was slightly nervous after Amy's sudden outburst. He cautiously picked up the piece of paper and examined it carefully.

"I'll right something down..."

Thomas' tongue hangs to the side and his forehead crinkles as he attempts to scribble handwriting down on a napkin. The napkins keep tearing, but his fourth or fifth napkin was strong enough to hold his message.

Sharing sea and airports, military bases, knowledge of conventional weapons, military tactics and instructors, and... weapons of mass destruction research

The hereby statements made in this room will be kept secret and the statements will be held as an unwritten contract and will act as a binding agreement between our two nations.

Amy draws a tape recorder from her pocket.

"I have been recording our conversation. Sorry, I always do that to save the handwriting and paper. Paper is precious to Ascelonians."
Volzgrad
30-07-2008, 21:25
"I understand." Alexei responded as the took a pen from out of his desk. He hastily scrawled his signature onto the appropriate line and handed the agreement over to Amy. "Is that all?"
Emperatium Drakonicum
30-07-2008, 21:25
Careful not to rip the napkin, John read it quickly.

He tried to write down on a napkin himself, but after the twelveth death his aid ripped the pen from his grasp and managed to do it in only two.

The conventional joint military operations are easily accomodatable. Our armed forces are already in the process of rearming itself, so there should be no trouble at all on that side. Weapons of Mass destruction research may pose a difficulty. While we would be more than willing to help you, this is not a project that will come without serious economic drawbacks to your nation, nor can it be done secretly. If you feel that you have the strength to take such a hit on the chin, we will lend material and scientists to help you.

"Yes... that is all Amy said with a smile... she nodded and carefully takes the agreement and tediously places it in her suitcase ensuring there is no superficial damage to the document. Nice meeting you," Amy waves goodbye to Alexei.

30-07-2008, 21:40
"Likewise." Alexei replied as the Foreign Minister left. Alexei let out a large and heavy sigh. He slowly walked toward the cabinet in his office and poured himself a drink. "What a day." Alexei said to himself as he swallowed the last drops of whiskey from his glass.

Brilliant... The Art of War would be glad to assist in the Weapons of Mass Destruction program. I suppose Ascelonia will have to agree to your partnership. We begin the project today, that is if you're willing to sign a document.

Tom fumbled through his black suitcase and pulled out a sheet of paper. Standard issue for all diplomats. He adds a little bit of writing to the paper before sliding it across the table to John. Thomas pulls out a tape recorder and plays it back to John.

"However... I'd like to go into detail about our WMD plans later... specifically what we are going to build..."

Amy was tired and disheveled from her previous meeting. A few cups of coffee kept her energy up as she met with the representative from Auoul.

Vyncent Frolic quietly stepped into the meeting room. The plane ride over was more comfortable than he was used to, along with the nice embassy he was staying in. 'Perhaps these Ascelonians are better than I expected', he spoke just as quietly as his steps had been.

"Hello, Miss." Vyncent began. "The name's Vyncent Frolic. Representative of Auoul." After walking over to the female, the ambassador held out his hand for a shake.

Amy grabbed his hand and began shaking immediately. She smiled warmly and began with business.

"How would you like to sign a mutual protection pact?"
Auoul
30-07-2008, 22:22
"You sure seem to run into things," Vyncent cheerfully observed. "Would you mind if I perhaps see the document?"
Ascelonia
30-07-2008, 22:24
Amy hands the document to Vyncent immediately.

"Basically it calls for us to defend each other if we are attacked in ANY way. It calls for us to support each other's wars if they can be justified."
Auoul
30-07-2008, 22:47
Vyncent's suspicious green eyes prowled the pages for any hint of trickery, scratching the light black beard that had taken shape on his chin. He wondered, for a moment, what the Highest Prophet would do to him if this pact would lead to disaster later on.

After several minutes of pondering, reading, and skimming, Vyncent lifted his eyes to look Amy in the face. This was the moment of truth. A big decision. And so the ambassador stated, "Do you have a pen on you?"
Ascelonia
30-07-2008, 22:53
"Why yes! I do!"

Amy slid a pen across the table.

"Thanks," Vyncent cheerfully said. Whether the cheerfulness was because he was eager to sign the document or because he was scared by Amy's jitteryness, he did not know.

Grabbing the pen, Vyncent quickly signed his name, and then handing it back along with the pact. He didn't know where he was leading the nation, although his life pretty much depended on it.

OOC: No... It's a recording if the conversation between YOUR diplomat and my diplomat.

IC: It is standard for all Ascelonian diplomats/ambassadors to wear blue suits with the ambassador's patch to signify their status. Paper is precious in Ascelonia (due to lack of trees), so most of the time, conversations are recorded and a contract is made to agree to all that was recorded in the tape recorder. This is much more convenient.

Ascelonian representatives all carry contracts/papers that can simply be signed saying something like, "I agree to all that I agreed to during the recording." More can be added to this if some of the diplomatic exchange was written rather than oral.

John sealed the verbal contract quickly and efficiently, after his aid thoroughly inspected the document.

"So, where would you prefer to settle your...specifics?"
